  • In this video, I share my expression of Lilacs, using the following Princeton brush #8 round brush. The key here is holding your brush towards the end, loosely and wiggling it around. Starting with water only, then going in with color and letting it flow into the water you laid down in swirls and curls. Make sure to leave white space in between your curls and swirls. . Once the paint is a bit dry, go in with a darker value and dab in the spots here and there to create depth.

This looks like so much fun!! I can’t wait to try it. Thank you so much Debbie, you’re such a kind, amazing teacher and artist and I’m very grateful for your gentle encouragement that has gotten me to play with different brushes and techniques. I’ve learned so much from you and I’m even starting to paint floral compositions WITH leaves!
I also thought I’d pass on a valuable technique I’ve recently learned about brush care. I was watching one of your tutorials and I noticed the fine little point on your #8 round brush and only then realized that they were no longer on my brushes. I couldn’t figure out what had happened as I thought I’d been caring for my brushes properly since I’d started painting with watercolour about 9 months ago. I contacted a Princeton brush salesperson and learned that I hadn’t been picking up the paint from my pans properly. I’d been swishing my brush along the top of the paint in my half pans which are in a metal palette. I was informed that by doing this the fine, tiny tips of my brush were most likely contacting the metal brackets that hold the pans in my palette. I was advised that a better technique was to either use an old brush to pick up the paint and deposit it onto the mixing area or to use a circular motion to pick up paint from the centre of the paint pan to avoid having the brush tips catch on the brackets or the tops of the plastic pan itself.
And of course another option was to use a ceramic palette. This was a much needed but expensive lesson to learn as I had to replace 2 Princeton brushes and designate my much-loved but de-pointed brushes as ‘retired.”
I hope this helps anyone who uses a metal palette. I really loved my first brushes and had I known this earlier I’d still be painting with them. 💕🎨🖌️

Wonderful Nadine Thank you for sharing that for everyone! A great reminder indeed. I have to watch myself as I’m
Pretty mindful of protecting my brush tips (I did a tutorial
On caring for brush tips a few months ago) although; if I’m not mindful I will scrub my brushes a bit when loading with pigment, and always such a disappointment isn’t it when our tips become frayed:/
Also making sure not to keep them
Stores tip down in water or a jar (common sense I know) and when I finish painting, I will rinse really well, dry off, and shape tip into a point before storing.
I just purchased a brush holder to help with this. I’m so glad you are creating leaves now! Well done! And play with ee brushes!
Tomorrow I’m sharing a seeet pea painting and I used the dagger I would have never thought to use for a little flower.
Happy painting Nadine and thank you for sharing for all
      Of us! Good tips!

@@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy Thanks Debbie. I love your play on words: “Good tips” lol ;-)
Also many thanks for your reply message. You’re a busy lady and yet you still take the time to send such uplifting messages. I adore your Spring flower painting tutorials. After a long, cold Canadian winter it’s so lovely to see those little purple and yellow crocus petals shooting up from barely thawed earth followed by daffodils and tulips. I thought of another lovely flower to paint, lily of the valley. Every Spring I pick a tiny bouquet and it will scent a room for a day or two. A small but mighty flower!💕

Oh you ARE so fortunate to have Lilly of the Valley (btw I am painting them This coming week!) has. I can only offer my thoughts :) Aplogies this reply came so late. I'm missing some
Replies and need to figure out how to catch them :/ I'm sure it's in settings somewhere! Thanks friend

Beautiful lilacs...my mother had purple lilacs, magenta, and French white varieties. The white were more slender and rounded at the top of the bloom cluster.

Oh! Beautiful, I bought them recently and couldn't believe how my entire house smelled so wonderfully every time I Came downstairs or walked in the door. I also love how they somewhat hang so beautiful. My favorite are the mountain lilacs I see off the road here!

My pleasure Eithne, be playful the main thing is to have fun and find something you love about everything you paint . Wet on wet can be tricky, my biggest tip is to make sure not so much water you have big puddles , leave fun spaces in between your squiggles (my word) like spaghetti then tap in with a darker value of color (more pigment less water) I bet you will do great!

Hi Teresa, wonderful I always love the wet on wet technique, it is so dreamy and full of surprises. Make sure not to put so much water you have puddles, that can create some muddyness. You will do great! Happy painting Teresa!

Love, love, love it!! I think I might try this. I need a birthday card for my sister 😍 . What would be the best way to create that beautiful magenta colour that I don't have with other colours, please Debbie?

    • @DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy
      @DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

It will make a beautiful card!
Mix your red and blue together ..
Play with the amount of water to get the lighter and darker value.
You might try adding a touch of white.. and Definately more red than blue.
Ultramarine blue and Cad red are two good mixing colors.. good luck with your card and Happy Painting friend!
