Beatrix Potter once said-“ I hold that a strongly marked personality can influence descendants for generations”. What an incredible and brilliantly edited video. The journey of research has created a stunningly beautiful composition. The attention to detail and paint colour used is outstanding 😊
Hi Michael, I’m no way an artist but appreciate most works. The amount of research you have put into your latest story into Beatrix Potter’s precise art work was so interesting, it gave a bit more insight into her artwork. Thank you.
You made the arthritic fingers of an old artist who lost his muse positively itch to put pen and brush to paper once more. Perhaps it will be just that, once more, but you've truly inspired me, Michael, and I thank-you.
My husband Paul has a Masters in art and we just finished watching your Beatrix Potter video. He was so impressed with your teaching and research. I used to watch you by myself, but he dearly loves your smile, your honest life and how calming your teaching voice. Thanks Michael!!!!! Well done!
Now this is the kind of stuff we need on Netflix - Michael is outstanding in his dedication, passion and talent regarding Beatrix Potter and the artwork. Thank you so much for this incredibly interesting documentary - I’ve learnt a lot! I feel like Michael is an old soul, he’s so talented.
For me, as a watercolorist, this is your best video ever. The research-my god. I am forever grateful. I had always guessed how Beatrix worked, and I wasn’t far off, but now, to have the actual colors! Thrilled isn’t enough to describe how I feel. And because of the writing slope, the paper, pencils, brushes, and most importantly, your love and respect for Ms. Potter, I feel as though I have been instructed by the grand lady herself! Thank you Michael, for inspiring me and others by sharing your knowledge and talents.
I bought my girls those videos when they were little, and my then 5 year old would run around speaking like Peter, copying his English accent. She's now 19 and a lifetime Beatrix Potter lover, and artist. I showed her your video and she absolutely loves it.
Your videos are less of a vlog and more of a documentary, each one. But especially this one. You put so much time and effort in, and it shows, and we love it. Never let anyone say the effort was wasted because your episodes are full adventures with an excellent, comprehensive story, neatly wrapped up. Love your work Michael!! 🎉
Thank you for a lovely video, it has inspired me to get out the dip pen and nibs that I used at Art School in early 1950. That is all we had in those days. I’m 92 now and still enjoy drawing.
Ms. Potter is one of my hero’s,her art inspired millions of us to see the world from a child’s perspective. She was a scientist as well and her art reflects her knowledge of each animal she drew. Wonderful video, thanks.
Michael, what an absolutely generous thing you are doing by sharing all those hard-researched details of Beatrix Potter’s materials and processes with your YT family. I think you have done your muse a great service and, wherever she is, she is smiling at you.
As an obsessive artist who has tried and failed so many times to recreate the work of Beatrix Potter, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your extensive research and instruction. Keep up the great work! ❤️❤️❤️
I think we all agree that missing your videos last year was well worth the time you had to achieve the results of your research. This was a beautifully made video and the drawing, watercolor that you created right before our very eyes on that precious drawing box is wonderful. All of your research has led you to finding and using paper and tools from ages ago and discovering the difference between the old and new. You are brilliant Michael! ❤
Michael research is the number one point in doing what one loves. You have done a lot of research and it shows in this wonderful piece of artwork and thank you for taking us through the history of how Beatrix Potter did her paintings and the paints truly fascinating. The paper mill making the paper Beatrix Potter used and made was an absolute treasure to watch. Thank you Tom for showing us. My dad was an artist and I only found this out when he was hospitalised and I had to go and clear his house out after he passed away. He never spoke about his art work and I now have a few of his paintings hanging in my house. Michael this was a lovely vlog and I hope you get a lot of sales. Have a lovely day.
Why are they called "starving artists"? They spend most of their money on Art Supplies. Not only is Michaels work beautiful, it is quality materials. Michael is just as fussy about the paper the prints are on, worth every penny!! Thank you Michael for inviting us into your kitchen/studio.
The biggest thing I would love to see more appreciation is for the artist and the artisan. The paper making process was an art in itself as well as your beautiful work. I hope a generation of children rediscover beautiful art designed just for them and grow to love it enough to pass it down to the next generation.
Michael, I absolutely loved this video 🥰 I enjoy all your vlogs. I started pencil, charcoal drawings in my early teens and that turned into pen and ink (the modern pens!) I always felt something was missing. A teacher suggested adding colour, specifically water colour/wash but I was scared of applying colour. Watching you just now showed me one way and I think a lovely way of using colour. I’m in my early 60’s and gave up on my art many years ago but after this I suddenly feel inspired to ‘have a go’. I am very much a perfectionist so to even consider failure has always caused me to just stop. Shall I be brave and find some of my drawings and dare I say ‘have a go?’ Your passion and skills are amazing and very calming to watch! Thank you so much 🍦🥰🙅♀️🙅♀️
This may well be the very best video I've ever watched on youtube. Absolutely superb work. The time you spent researching was well worth it. Are there Emmy awards for youtube?
I love this. I've loved the stories and pictures from Beatrix Potter since I was 2-3 years old. My nanna would always read to me and we'd look at the pictures and talk about these characters. I'm now 57 and still hold these memories dear. When I started watching this video I thought, 'well, we'll see how long I last through this.' I thought about skipping some of the bits. But then I just couldn't. I became more and more enamoured. I can't draw very well but I dabble in painting (mostly because I've been dabbling in arts, crafts and music my entire life) just for the mental calmness it brings to me. This video was very good for my mental health. Thank you for such an informative and fascinating journey.
Michael, I share with you two mantras by which I live my life and I believe you do as well. I hope you will agree. The first is a Russian Proverb I found decades ago, "It matters not that we live, but how." Which, if I rightly remember the original French writing, is "Il n'import quon vivre, mais comment!" The other is, "Life is short; Art is long." You embody both. Thank you for the excellent Beatrix Potter illustration lesson.
This documentary/instructional video is amazing! Your months and months of research, acquisition of expensive original materials - all your work - is a gift to the artist world. Thank you for sharing this. I hope more people will share this all over the world! God bless you!
What a cool vid! Loved seeing the paper making shop and seeing this art form continuing on. I hope they are able to prosper and continue to keep this process alive. Thanks for sharing!
An episode worthy of, and better than, a television programme. Well done. It was SO interesting, visually and verbally. You really have a talent in teaching, painting, AND entertaining. Excellent production.
0:36; oh my. when my daughter was 3, we watched these over & over until the dvd box went shabby. she is 21 now and just hearing that beautiful intro music gave me such a wonderful memory rush. thank you hun. rest in peace Tom Thumb...
Perfick by Pip Burley, the theme music from The Darling Buds of May TV series is probably just ideal for these vlogs about Beatrix Potter and her art. She was a perfectionist and so are you Michael. Mesmerizing to watch, even a little hypnotic. Congratulations on a wonderful project. Daryl in Munich.
This is an absolutely top-notch video, full of interesting and useful information. I live just down the road from Beatrix Potter's Lake District home, and I've always wondered about her techniques. Now I can't wait to get going with trying out some illustrations using what I've learned here. Massive kudos for all the time, effort and money you've put into researching this. Thank you!
I'm thrilled with this video. When my children were younger I read them every Beatrix Potter book I could find. I enjoyed her work when I was a child, too. This bit of history on her method was wonderful and absolutely charming. Thank you
So very much in one single episode: travel, history lessons, a how to and a beautiful piece of art by a very talented Mr M Petherick. Thank you Michael 🙏👍😊👏❤️
Michael, Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful Vlog!! So knowledgeable and talented. I expected your bunny to wiggle, turn around, and blink at you!!! Thank you so much!
When I was a child I loved the Beatrix Potter books. I never read the stories. It was her artwork that fascinated me. Now as an older adult, I have been teaching myself how to paint with watercolor paints. How wonderful to see how to recreate her beautiful artwork. Thank you for sharing this!
I’m never more excited about watching a TH-cam video than the moment I see you’ve posted! This one is especially interesting because I too have wanted to paint like Beatrice Potter. You’ve gone so much further into research on her… her paints her style, her paper etc. I know it’s been a work of love finding all of this. To top it all off, you do so awesome creating beautiful videography for us to enjoy. Thank you so much Michael.
Dearest Young Man, I raised my beautiful Daughter, Tara, on Beatrix Potter's Books, Art and Sciences of Nature. We both are Artists with water color. I later studied sculpture. I am sincerely proud of your integrity and diligent research to aquire her methods and tools. Yes, paper and dies and paints are critical to the style of her work. Beatrix is highly honored in America. Just as much as Shakespeare. Tara is now a Teacher for a private school and has her Master's Degree in Education and Literature. I am now in my final years enjoying your wonderful Spirit of knowledge, a young lady of 70 years. I pray you will continue to declare your work and I am quite sure that many will be buying your work which you might find in your favor to patent first as numbered originals, sealed in your name and title. This way no one can steal your work and sale it for their own profit through the Internet, we have so many people doing that. I hope all continues well for you and your production. The world needs your wonderful deliverance and talent. With full Regards, Mrs. Fawn Cheyenne Valley Joseph White Cloud Jett Anstiss Best Morley Scott

Hi Michael. The opening sequence of the Beatrix Potter TV series was simply magical, this was of course enhanced by the title song "Perfect Day". Have fond memories chilling out watching the series. Great video by the way your artistic ability is an absolute pleasure to watch. Keep up the excellent videos.
So interesting. I find it hard to find nice paper to write a letter. Glad you shared the paper making process. I love your art and Beatrix Potter. I have a few of your art pieces.. Have a wonderful day. Love Victoria.
I also fell in love with Beatrix Potter just from watching that little live action bit. As a child growing up in the middle of Brazil, the Peter Rabbit & Friends VHS made such an impact in my life and that of my sisters!
What an absolutely fabulous discovery I made finding YOU! I love Beatrix Potter! Thank you for doing the research on all of this. I can’t wait to watch more.
How lovely that you came to her work later in life! I grew very fond of Potter’s work, when I was a child and my grandmother would read Peter Rabbit and also other tales to me during bedtime or in the afternoon in the garden on a blanket with my favourite stuffed pet and afternoon lemonade.
We used India I nk at school many years ago. Mainly in Geography to outline countries which we had to draw before we filled in cities, rivers etc. I was no artist. Your picture was perfect 😊😊
Thank you for such a lovely video. You have made me use my writing slope again. Going to use techniques of dry brushing for painting on fabric for embroidery on top. Please see how Tudors made a fine brush using a feather to get thin lines. Felt like you took us on a holiday.
Amazing surprise, was bored today and weather in northern Ireland is wet wet wet so just made my dinner and got a bell alarm to say Micheal is coming on brilliant, so every one hit the bell then you will know when this amazing vlogs come on thankyou Micheal ❤x
Michael, you have given so much to other artists coming up behind you by all the research you have done. I relate to personality traits that make you desire to find out painting details of B.P. Wow! Loving every thing you do from your art to restoration of Chateau. Keep being you!!! Keep inspiring!!!
I am an artist because of Beatrix. I used to copy her watercolor works when I was little, I learned watercolors because of her. This video is a treasure. Great work and excellent research!
Idk how i got here or what I'm doing but I'm glad i clicked. Is always nice to hear people talk passionately and in depth about things I don't know anything about. Tanks for putting on the effort to do all that research and sharing
I’m 75. My mother’s Beatrix Potter Books from her childhood are family treasures! And I love painting with watercolors so your channel is also a treasure! Thank you!❤
I am so happy that you took the time to do the research and that you also took the time to show us how you paint! You have given us another opportunity to support your work by purchasing a painting (I ordered one) and you have also given us an opportunity to see how the paper was made and I hope the exposure will help these craftsmen to keep working!!!
A lovely vlog Michael. You really have matured over the last few years. You still have the same mischievous and fun personality but it is nice to see you engage the audience with your knowledge and showcasing your amazing talents. Thank you ❤
Carol, just go for it! I'm almost 73 and did a lot of fashion drawing in my working years, but retired at 58 because of arthritis. Having thought about it many times... even buying supplies, I realised I should have been painting even though my hands are not as steady as before... this video has even inspired me to get cracking again! Hello from Sydney! 🖌🦘
68 and excited because Michael has touched my soul to write and illustrate again he’s marvelous! Us oldies should do a field trip with him❤️🙏music is grand… yes award winning show! Thank you sweet man🙏🇺🇸
I only found out a few days ago, by chance, that you are an artist. And after watching this video I have to say that I am totally thrilled. I was deeply touched by the dedication with which you made this drawing. Only someone with a big heart can put such wonderful pictures on paper. I would like to thank you for the 43 minutes of time you gave us. I look forward to many more videos.🤗👍🏻
This was so comforting, wholesome, and informative to watch, as you began talking I felt like I was watching a young Mr. Rogers, you have such a natural gift to share with others and take us on happy journeys that make us feel so much better in the world. Thank you so much for this beautiful video, and the inspiration to go paint now!
Oh wow Michael, i cannot draw a straight line and have not really been interested in painting as such, but i have so enjoyed watching your video so very much. I loved reading Beatrix Potter as a child, i am now 10 days off from turning 74 and i think if i still had her books i would probably start reading them again. Thank you Michael for your amazing talent keeping Beatrix Potter alive for the young and old.
Your work is phenomenal! I don’t paint, but watercolors are my favorite works of art. I had no idea how much work went into a watercolor painting! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!!! 😁👏🏻🤗🥰
Such a lovely glimpse in the world of Beatrix Potter. You work is always beautiful, Michael, & your administration for this wonderful artist & author warms my heart. Blessings.
Seeing how the paper is made was wonderful! Michael, you are a truly gifted artist! I love how you love Beatrix Potter so. Her work was incredibly beautiful, as is yours!
This was pure magic to watch Michael.... I was totally mesmerised !! Thank you for allowing us into your world of watercolour :) Your artistic and creative skills are really quite remarkable !!!
I am a maker who enjoys bookbinding and watercoloring, and this scratched all of my itches. This is now my absolute favorite video of yours, Michael, well done!
I’ve never had any interest in doing anything remotely like this…. BUT… I LOVED your video so much! I was gripped the whole way through it and now determined to try one myself! Thank you.
Michael; your videos are so well done. There is no one else in your league. So appreciate the quality of everything you produce. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.

It's too hot in So. Cal. Wishing for some rain.
Does it rain 🌧 a lot in northern Ireland 🇮🇪?
Michael, you have given so much to other artists coming up behind you by all the research you have done. I relate to personality traits that make you desire to find out painting details of B.P.
Wow! Loving every thing you do from your art to restoration of Chateau. Keep being you!!!
Keep inspiring!!!
Wow wow wow Micheal P you are one very very talented young man Very impressed Thank you for a FANTASTIC ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉VLOG
I am an artist because of Beatrix. I used to copy her watercolor works when I was little, I learned watercolors because of her. This video is a treasure. Great work and excellent research!
Hello from Penticton B.C Canada , love watching
Idk how i got here or what I'm doing but I'm glad i clicked. Is always nice to hear people talk passionately and in depth about things I don't know anything about. Tanks for putting on the effort to do all that research and sharing
One of my favorite artists. As a child, I was so enchanted by her art!
Thank you ❤
Thank you Micheal. I’m 76 and try to learn something ever day.
Me too. 😊

I’m 76 too in New York USA. So happy to have found you!
You deserve a doctorate in paint! Thanks so much! Very educational!!! 🦌❤️👍

TH-cam recommended this video and I couldn’t be happier. Can’t wait to dive into your channel - the paper making part at the start was fantastic

I remember that series! It stood in stark contrast to the other children’s offerings at the time. Lovely and sweet and quiet.
