Ah, the only issue I had was that it also killed the background noise. As I was on location this was a bit of a deal breaker. The technique worked a charm though, but it removed everything.

it could happen if your audio level is too low. first compress the audio and add a limiter and increase the gain. Now try apply the effect to reduce breathing sound. also adjust the attack and release when you add noise gate
