A Love Letter To Star Wars

- A short film I made on my love for Star Wars. The love I grew up with. So many great memories of the original saga. Memories of Star Wars Battlefront 2. Lego Star Wars. Lightsaber duels with my brother. Dressing up as Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Jango Fett for Halloween. Even though the franchise has gone downhill, I am thankful for the good times I had as a child. A fan of this magical series.

Ran across your video randomly on youtube but just wanted to say it basically captured what I'm feeling with Star Wars at the moment as well. It was our childhood and what's been done to it now is just sad.
Truly truly sad. We had a great childhood with the original saga!
Still alive though Star Wars is and I've been a fan since 2004 since I was 8 now 27.
i agree
Beautiful
Man, you've captured every emotion of every star wars fan. THANKYOU
no..thank YOU!
Nope. Real Star Wars fans hate the prequels
Star Wars is now being created by divisive people instead of creative ones. Then again, it's Star Wars in name only. We ALL know that SW ended with Revenge of the Sith. Here's to George, the maker, the guy who NEVER attacked the fans or became a joke on social media. This franchise has been by my side ever since my dad revealed the original trilogy to me at the age of 5. No matter what dumpster trash catches on fire in the near future, the real fans will always be appreciative of the legacy this legendary saga gave to us all.
As a life long Star Wars fan myself, I understand having the nostalgia of our childhoods, and holding them dear.
I think we have to understand that nothing to come now can ever top those original experiences. That doesn't mean we can't enjoy what new stuff we do get for what it is. The New doesn't erase the old, it only adds to it. I love Star Wars. The new, the old, the good, the bad, it all has a place within me.
As a 26 year old women with a Star Wars obsessed father who is now pregnant with a son. This encapsulates everything I love about this franchise. I grew up with it, my dad grew up with it and my son will grow up with it too. It’s the best kind of magic
I love this so much. It truly is magical.
The only reason why I’m going to meet Christian Haydensen & Ewan Mcgregor and say thank you for playing these rolls and inspiring millions of us to become a Jedi or Sith when we were kids.
We miss what used to be a dream, people who taught us lessons, and morals that gave us a reason to sit down and watch the latest episode.
Not a single words was spoken, yet your message was loud and clear. You’re not alone, friend.
I love challenging myself as a filmmaker to avoid dialogue. I would rather show and suggest rather than tell the story. I want to evoke emotion! Make people feel something! thank you for watching!
@@Thomas.R.Howell You really delivered in that! Excellent work. Film making is your talent, that’s easy to tell. Thank you for uploading this.
That hit me hard. I hear you
This was beautiful. No words spoken yet it said everything I feel about Star Wars right now.
Thank you!😭
I'm not about insulting the people who love the current star wars, but being 33, nothing can top the memories of the original 6 films and lucasarts games.
You captured the wonder and adoration of what George created and i actually shed a tear.
May the Force be with us and with the future of Star Wars. Gonna play some Jedi Outcast now salute 🫡
I wholeheartedly stand by you and your words! Nothing will beat Christmas 2005 playing Star Wars Battlefront 2. Or racing to Gamestop for the last copy of Lego Starwars Original Trilogy! I continue to rewatch all 6 films and have deep discussions about them with my friends!
May the Force be with you! Thank you for watching!
there's no one left to insult lol
@@craigcj5953 There are more than a few diehard consoomers still clinging on even after Acolyte lol
Agreed. Nothing beats the original Clone Wars Multi-Media Project for me. Immaculate storytelling.
Jedi Outcast is a masterpiece, I’ve played that game so many times! Love Academy just as much.
This actually made me cry. coincidentally I have a starwars shirt on right now. I'm crying not just for a love of starwars but hurting, wanting to go back to being a kid in general; reliving playing Spyro Ripto's Rage on the PS1, getting an actual Matoran Bionicle in a happy meal, watching Samurai Jack in awe and playing Galaga at my local Pizza Hut and dressing up as Batman Beyond for halloween. The nostalgia it is pain making me depressed... it hurts, its agony but I live in the present I have to be strong and be happy the past happened. Not all is lost that love of things I enjoyed as a kid I still enjoy especially Starwars the G-canon as it were; as George intended. Thank you for making this Video. You in this video is so many of us not because a dislike or hatred of the new but a PASSION for the old.
I feel you dude! I remember vividly losing myself in the world of sly Cooper on playstation. Or sims 2 on my moms lap top. Getting toys in a cereal box or with my happy meal at McDonald's! Playing basketball til the sun went down. Late nights playing cod Zombies or Minecraft with my friends.
The beauty of it all is we have these memories! We can cherish these memories. And be excited for the new ones we will make in our lives!
I really appreciate your words! This film is what you said. It is about the passion and love for the old. Not the hatred for the new!
Mann this was AWESOME, You summed up how we ALL FEEL without saying a single word. This was very emotional moving...thank you.
Thank you so much dude! Means a lot!
Nicely done! Captured a lot with next to nothing needed to be said! (Old home movies were a great touch aha)
Loved this. Grew up with Star Wars & Still watching 💯😁
Love it!
Beautiful, raw, unadulterated love for what Star Wars was when we were kids 👌 I can’t help but sympathize
we had it good back in our day!
I wish, as a younger fan who adores Andor, that I had the experience of watching the OT in theaters.
This deserves far more views. I hope this trends. Thanks for making something so beautiful.
Wow thank you!
My childhood wasn't the best but Thank God he gave me Star Wars when I was growing up
That was really good! Thank you for reminding me. I'm older than you, and I wore out my VHS copy of Return of the Jedi when I was a kid. But the feelings are still there. Thank you.
Thank you! I too grew up with episodes 4-6 on VHS. Sadly my only original copy from that time is my 2005 Revenge of the Sith DVD.
Truly beautiful and very, very relatable.
thanks for this video... I literally cried, my dad got me and my brother into Star Wars as we were like 5. He passed away when I was 12... even though the new movies are trash, I wish he could see them too! thanks man
Thank you.
Amazing… just amazing. This captured everything. Great video
Thank you!!!!
For what it’s worth… This video just earned my subscription. George Lucas’s 6 movies and everything released under Lucasfilm under his leadership can capture the excitement we had as children. Disney Star Wars has destroyed that spark.
wow thank you! That means a lot!
@@Thomas.R.Howell seriously great stuff, you clearly put a lot of work and heart into this
Perfect! Thank you!
That's what it's all about, man...
May the force be with you.
may the force be with you!
Very nice and heartwarming. THX :)
Exactly how most of us feel. Great vid!
Mmm good stuff right there
Pulling out that DVD edition of revenge of the Sith really solidified it for me along with the copy of Spider-Man two. My first movie my dad ever took me to see theaters was Spider-Man two. Then came revenge of the Sith, which was my first Star Wars movie in theaters that began my journey into Star Wars. Watching this video perfectly and bodies where I am now as a 26-year-old father of three. Sometimes it’s just good to go back and remember how things felt and how things were with Star Wars. End it often leaves the question of whether it’s time for us to let it go and cherish the movies that we once had.
Beautiful Video
What are the odds of that!? Spiderman two bring your first movie your dad took you to see!? How cool! So special.
I don't think we as fans of the prequels are in the wrong for always returning to these classic films. I do it yearly. Just like my wife and I do with Lord of the Rings.
Star Wars was such a massive part of my childhood, to ignore it now would be throwing away many memories. I say we continue to cherish what we had and what we grew up with!
Thank you for watching and sharing your story!
This came across in my recommended and I’m so glad. The channel I’m making this comment with exists to host a fan made recreation of Revenge of the Sith my friends and I made. Your short film perfectly captures the heart behind our project and how I feel about Star Wars as well. Great work!!
Keep creating! Never stop!
tears dammit😢 to be young and sitting in a theater anticipating the start of TPM🥹
…which was a film that fueled a ton of hatred at the time too. People were bullied for liking it. SW has been controversial since long before Disney
I always loved TPM even with all its flaws. Loved it when it came out, and at times, would play it every night before going to sleep.
We will watch your career with great interest!
Anakin! I've appointed you to be my PERSONAL representative on the Jedi council.
@@Thomas.R.Howell what is the equivalent to a jedi representative on the Jedi council on TH-cam?
@@darthbismark139 Oh that is a great question...
@Thomas.R.Howell the point is, that was a great video that captures what many of us feel about current Star Wars. I look forward to what you do in the future!
Fantastic video
Thank you!
Prequels saga memories
Remember in 99, 02, and 05, reading the books because you couldn' wait for the films to come out after having the original trilogy memorized from your worn out vhs?
I always wonder why can't we go back to times when star wars was at it's best
Because George Lucas was manipulated to sell his art so that another company can "mine" it. "Mining" Star Wars was Bob Iger's expression. I didn't shoehorn that in.
Thank you. And Im so sorry for our loss. My condolences😢
We had it good!
My mom got me into star wars, and now it's the one thing that binds me to her memory. What these new creators don't understand is how much Star Wars meant to us as kids. Tears well in my eyes as i realize its been 20 years since i watched what still is my favorite movie ever, Revenge of the sith. Even with their faults (and i think the faults are part of the movies charm) theyll never EVER top or even match what george did. George had passion and vision. The charm and wonder these movies produced will never be replicated, but my solace is that the charm lives through my wonderful childhood memories. I hope star wars gets back on track someday.
Thank you for making this beautiful video. I saw a lot of what I’m feeling reflected in it. I didn’t grow up with the movies (I was a baby when Attack of the Clones was released), but I fell in love with what Lucas created as a teen. It’s sad to see what has been done to it. However, the original movies are still here for us, and they’re just as magical. I have felt down about the state of Star Wars for a long time, but now I’d rather focus on the magic and wonder of the originals, and ignore the rest.
This is one of the few times I have shed tears while watching a TH-cam video. The nostalgia and emotions that came from this were unmatched. I just wish we could go back to better times, and this took me back for a few minutes. Thank you so much ❤️
The beauty of it all is we will ALWAYS have these memories to cherish and hold on to. I am always filled with a child like joy when I get to dive back into Star Wars or Lord of the Rings!
Thank you watching! Means so much
Beautiful work
It’s time to move on 😢… (Acolyte really was the last nail to the coffin) (I hate that show by the way not my Star Wars)
This was very good dude!!!
Thank you!!!
Take it! Take my sub. I’m not crying, you’re crying! ❤
Wow thank you!
love this
This honestly encapsulates how I’ve been feeling about Star Wars, but honestly it’s also how I feel about most things now they’re all the same.
This is beautiful! Star Wars nowadays doesn't capture the feel of the original 6 films, TV show/s, etc, except on very rare occasions. It's great to be able to relive those times to some extent!
Hi, Thomas! I just randomly ran into your video, and i gotta say...
I've turned only 20 a few months ago, yet i still feel like i grew up with the old Star Wars movies with the prequels and the original trilogy era.
These movies, the shows, and even the video games had a big part of my childhood, and i can't be thankful enough.
Whenever i had a bad day back at school or making jokes about me, i always turned on my PS2, And started playing with the Star Wars: ROTS game
[Fun fact: The game itself released a month before the actual movie ;) ]
I'll never forget the magic that used to surround me even in the most darkest of my days.
But since Disney bought all the rights from Lucasfilms itself, everything's changed.
Instead of using George's ideas that was given to Disney, they just throw it out of the trash disrespecting the big man's work.
Watching the Force Awakens movie when it came out, at first i thought it was good movie if not better. The Last Jedi for me was absolutely boring, i was highly disappointed in it. And there's not a single memorable scene from the Rise of The Skywalker movie. Some of the new characters we're so pointless that i can't even recall their names.
(I'm talking about that pink haired lady, and that asian girl who was supposed to be Finn's love i guess? I honestly don't know anymore... 😂)
So yeah, at first, i didn't really had nothing againts the sequels when the first movie came out, but after long years of research and analyze, comparing older Star Wars medias to the current one we have now, now i understand why so many fans we're so upset about the situation.
I also understand those who we're disappointed in Luke's character in The Last Jedi movie. Because it's not THE Luke Skywalker we used to know, the same Luke Skywalker who was able to redeem the biggest living weapon, a monster who was responsible for the pain and destruction he brought along with his failures and hatred, Darth Vader himself, A.K.A Anakin Skywalker who was the father of Luke Skywalker.
If these old movies have thought me anything, is that we all have a choice, a choice to be better than who we we're yesterday. Luke understood Vader's pain and tried to bring him back to the light. And he did.
Clearly Disney has no clue of Luke Skywalker's character at all. The same person who redeemed a Sith Lord, now suddenly had bad dreams about his nephew who hasn't even turned to the dark side tried to kill him in his sleep?
Remember the times when Star Wars used to be for everyone? Not just the men, women, or children?
[I hope you got the reference! ;) ]
That Star Wars was a family movie and meant for every living person no matter where they came from? When they weren't trying selling T-shirts that says: "The Force is Female"
And sadly, that's the case about most modern movies these days. Instead of equalizing the other, accepting them of who they are where they came from, like She-Hulk or Ms. Marvel and even MULAN, they are trying to bring men down to a lower point to make women look perfect, that they don't have to fight for anything, they deserve to be praised and respected. Even more than men, cause all men is ever think about is dr#g and s3x.
(We all obviously know it's not even true.)
Don't get this the wrong way! I have a lot of respect for women, and even men. But Star Wars lately has become the one thing George Lucas always was trying to stay away from, which is a problem.
But if i want to be optimistic about it. I'd like to think that this is just a bad era for filmmaking and entertainment that sooner or later will fall into the dephts of oblivion, and only view it as a bad memory.
As long as we true fans unite and stay passionate about what we truly enjoy and love not letting tell us otherwise, a better era of entertainment will arrive. And with it, and new hope will emerge.
May the force be with you all. ❤
Thank you so much for sharing your story and thoughts on such an amazing franchise we all grew up on!
I agree wholeheartedly! Modern cinema refuse to make complex and flawed characters! They create too many characters that are perfect and solve their own issues almost immediately!
So much of that is seen in modern Star Wars and the characters they create. Rey for example, has healing powers??? WHAT? Anakin went to the dark side in hope of obtaining such powers to save his wife from childbirth! Talk about a journey! Rey on the other hand heals a creature in a tunnel just randomly?
Things aren't earned either.
When you see a character at their lowest, it's easy to root for them and celebrate them at their highest! That is what is needed in not only modern Star Wars but modern cinema!
I can go on and on but seriously thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts!
Thank you for making this. As both a huge SW fan and someone lucky enough to have worked on the prequels and beyond, _this_ is the stuff that matters 🙏🚀
Just Beautiful! Heading to the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, CA tomorrow (2.5 hours away) to see in person the new Star Wars display, with Vader's Empire Strikes Back *screen-used* helmet, Luke's Episode 4 Landspeeder, and Leia's Throne Room Gown (when she gave the medals to Han & Luke), and much more!. For anyone who makes Love Letters to Star Wars films, I know you'd appreciate seeing the actual objects from the movies. Thank you again for your beautiful mini-film! :)
Wow that is awesome! Hope you had a safe trip and enjoyed the displays! So cool!
Thank you for watching! :)
@@Thomas.R.Howell The Star Wars Museum display was incredible! In addition to what I already listed above, they also had on display one of the two screen-used medals that Leia gave to Luke & Han (The medal looks GORGEOUS in person, even after 47 years!), one of only 6 known Stormtrooper helmets from 1977 Episode 4 that still exists (they even specify exactly which stormtrooper in episode 4 wore that helmet!), and Leia's actual slave-girl bikini from RotJ! The exibit was *awesome*!!
Ngl the last part made me cry
I was a crying mess making this. Combing through those home videos. Reliving my childhood. So thankful.
Growing up with this franchise is a best decision of my life, now seeing how it is going right now is just disappointing. Making you want to look back to the good days, before the dark times.
Before the empire...
Celebrating what was. We could have all been born a hundred years earlier and never had any Star Wars at all.
It ain’t what it used to be. But what it used to be is timeless and incredible.
When the sonic charges went off in the clone wars movies, you felt that in your chest!
I'm a huge fan of the new series "The Acolyte" and I believe it's a beautiful show, but at the same I respect the Star Wars fans who only love the 70s/80s/90s movies. Those were masterpieces that will always be remembered and admired forever. I think there is enough space for everyone, we all should respect each other taste and opinions. You love the original movies just like millions of other people and then there is a big number of new fans of today's Star Wars projects. I wish fan wars between the different fandoms of the SW universe could just end.
I love that. I really appreciate you bringing this up. I think it is important for us as fans and just humans to share our thoughts and opinions on things we like and dislike. If I ran into you at a coffee shop and you told me your favorite show was The Acolyte, I would LOVE to just hear what you have to say. Hear why you love this show so much. I would never shut you down or say you are wrong.
I think the conversations with differing opinions are the best. Because we can share our side on things! And learn something about each other that we didn't know otherwise.
Some of my favorite conversations are with friends I disagree with on certain things, books, and movies!
That proper Star Wars feeling is so distinct.
Incredible
Duuuude, so good. Intro to making movies on the big screen one day??

Omg the ending combined with home videos when you were kids 😭 Spider-Man 2 DVD was a cherry on top, that’s still the best superhero movie ever made.
Also, ROTS is my favourite of the prequels, I destroyed my DVD copy 😅
Loved it

This video made me cry…
made me depressed and melancholic and nostalgic. do it again (i'm subscribing).
Definitely relate! I love Star Wars in my spirit. It was my comfort in a broken home. I have a 3 year old son now and want him to experience the magic that I knew. The Disney stuff is absolutely missing the most crucial elements... I'll stick with the George Lucas era.
so sad, but so treu
I am begining to feel the same. I don't look forward to Star Wars like before. I don't even care if a new thing is good or bad. It just is what it is.
Good job on the video, friend. The Force may not be strong with the people running today's Star Wars but it IS strong with you! 👊
I can't believe this video dosn't have more views. Great job man. 👍🔥
Thank you!!
I started as a kid with the OT. The pursuit of good, the fight against evil, and the redemption of the deceived was such a powerful feeling that stayed with me all my life. Disney makes it into the land of confusion, with nothing but grey area with no clarity at all. The PT taught everyone again that democracy must be defended, and can be overrun with lies, deception and corruption; but to never give up hope.
If George Lucas would have made 7,8,9 the story would have the best resolution possible. We'd see the rebuilding of the Jedi order. Yet here it is that so far the original six movies are the whole story.
Not really, his plan was to bring Maul in the sequel trilogy which would've sucked maul was always meant to die at the hands of Kenobi. The sequel trilogy is a 6/10 for me but, Disney didn't ruin star wars it kept it alive.
tpm is my favorite, Disney made sure it might be that forever.
It’s sad to say goodbye to things we love. But we can’t stay in this abusive relationship forever. It’s time to let it go.
As a person who grew up with the sequels as my introduction to Star Wars, and who likes all star wars, be it legends or disney canon, i do not share the same feelings as many of you guys here, but i wish you all the best
I hope you can all still enjoy the stories that you like, and forge good memories with them and enjoy the old memories too
And i hope you remember that the force is always with you :)
Beautiful video. Short, but message is clear. Episode VIII was so awful and shallow, that I didn't even watched IX. For me, it's first six episodes, Rogue One and Andor. And I actually liked Solo - it's a good Star Wars adventure. And, as for video games - it's Knights of the Old Republic, of course. Thank you for reminding about the good times. May the Force be with you.
Star Wars always was something just a little more than the sum of its parts. Disney forgot that
Lovely🙏🏼
it's been a pleasure ride with all of you..
This is really sad ngl, what has this franchise become 😢
It's truly sad what Star Wars has become. I originally wanted to title this film: What happened to Star Wars. But it's less about the current state of this franchise and more about the memories we all experienced growing up with the original 6 films! I am so thankful my generation got to grow up alongside these films! I am thankful we will ALWAYS have the original saga. It was pure magic!
@@Thomas.R.HowellYeah I love the title that you've chosen, I don't know if I would have clicked on the video with a more factual title. It's always better to see the good sides of things, sure our generation grew up with the movies that George Lucas made and we can be grateful for that. I can assure you of one thing, I had more emotions in a 2 minutes 40 video than 8 episodes of The Acolyte, that's class, as a community we need to stick together and maybe one day the franchise will return to its routes, let's hope that we won't only look at the past when it's about Star Wars I'm sure that passionate people will take the lead at some point🤞
@@Thomas.R.HowellI applaud you for keeping the focus on what you love.
@@loganfields159 Thank you!!
We don't need to be sad. Star Wars has taught us to resist and fight evil. So no matter what those bastards try to do with the franchise now, we will carry the right memories and the right understanding of it with us, through these dark times.
Got yourself a sub buddy 👍🏽
Sad indeed!
Good times. I gotta do one of these about doctor who or snoopy 🐥
2:14 hit me with the feels 🥲
I miss loving Star Wars...😞
The state of Star Wars right now is more depressing than watching Anakin fall to the dark side.
.....I know.
It’s not actually gone downhill. Not since the prequels anyway. It went downhill from 1983. Or so says an OT kid.
The difference is that the people who loved the prequels as kids, ignoring their many faults, are now adults whose nostalgia clouds their judgement, but they’re eloquent enough to make great love letters to said nostalgia like this video.
They mistakenly look down on younger generations enjoying new Star Wars, just as those who were kids for the OT did to kids watching the PT. You don’t think it was the same, because you don’t remember it, because you were a kid and didn’t care, but trust me, it happened.
And 10yrs from now there’ll be videos from ST kids, now grown up reminiscing on their love of Star Wars, and how 2034’s latest release just doesn’t compare because of its bad writing and clunky execution.
Star Wars is for everyone, but remember it’s really for the kids of now, whenever that now happens to be.
THE HOME VIDEOS 😭😭 so sweet!
looking back at them, I was actually surprised how big of a fan I was!
I remember the first time I saw Episode 1 in theaters when I was a kid. The pod racing and Darth Maul were the coolest thing I ever experienced! My brother and I were obsessed and it still brings me back to beautiful memories. Thank you for sharing this!!
