Why do I read books is because I can. I am not supposed to be reading. My parents were told that I would never learn to read and write because of how severe my learning disability. I read my first book on my own at age 18. I went college college and even got my masters. So I read cause I can. It truly is privilege that people take for granted.
My brother who was diagnosed with autism was non-verbal for the first 7-8 years and later started to speak. At the current moment he is able to read but not understand or imagine what's going on (hopefully one day he is able to experience stories). Through him I was able to understand the value of things that people consider mundane or "normal".
I've been reading since I was 16-17 years old, so for 20 years now. I read because I feel warm, cozy, it is my safe place, the only pastime that I really really like. I think I wouldn't know how to live without reading, it's the only thing that really makes me forget about everything and I just get lost in the stories, characters, the worlds etc. I mostly read Epic/High fantasy and science fiction. My favourite writers so far are: Brandon Sanderson and two Spanish speaker authors: Gabriel García Márquez and José Antonio Cotrina, but I will be reading Robin Hobb soon.
Reading is so so cozy. There is nothing like a warm cup of coffee. A blanket. The morning sun creeping through the window. Robin Hobb might be next after Wheel of Time. I have her Farseer trilogy. Heard amazing things about it.
I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t fascinated/ obsessed with reading. Books saved me and raised me in a toxic environment. Without the words of wisdom contained within their pages, I don’t know where I would be right now.
Reading a book is like absorbing someone's life lessons in just a few hours. I just love expanding my brain with knowledge that some people fought their whole life to gain.

Glad to have found your channel a few days ago. I enjoy reading for many of the same reasons as you: to escape reality for a while, for an interesting story that I can then share with others, it feels more rewarding than staring at a screen, for cognitive benefits etc. I initially got into books about explorers (Shackleton, mountain climbers, whaling ships, etc) and have branched out since. Stephen King got me to appreciate fiction. Reading is now one of my favorite hobbies. Keep up the good work

I've always been a huge reader, something of which my parents never had issue with since it was a good hobby and it kept me out of trouble. Words fascinated me and still do as an adult. There was no such thing as a banned book when I was growing up, infact when I first heard of "banned books," I thought it was really stupid (still is). Right now I'm reading Les miserables and I'm at the part where the main character is teaching a 8 year old child how to read. As he is doing this, he recollected on how he was in jail years before and how he vowed to learn how to read before he gets out, so he'll do some evil deeds. Fast forward back to him teaching the child, he realized that he didn't fulfill that evil vow but turned it into a good deed and because of this, it created a bond with him and the child and the child began to call him "father." Reading that passage was heart warming because I got to see these characters change for the better and that's what I love about reading.
I've always valued reading and I consider it my "hobby" even though I can't really stay consistent with it. The reason why I like to read is because it's a healthy and beneficial way to pass your time instead of the "easier" one that is scrolling through social media for hours on end. It helps you gain patience, makes your brain work a bit and most of the time, specially in the case of non-fiction, you get to learn things as you enjoy yourself. Anyways, I've been watching your videos lately and decided to subscribe just now. Love the cozy atmosphere and the paused rhythm that helps the watcher slow down. Keep up the good work!

I’ve really been thinking a lot about this actually. Reading has been becoming a more and more important aspect of my life in the past few years. It’s become important for me to pivot away from superficial entertainment into hopefully wisdom and insight. I’ve become especially motivated by a Haruki Murakami line, something like “if you read the same books as everyone else, you will think the same thoughts as everyone else” I find this actually pertinent with regards to mass media, current events media, shows and podcasts and news media. These forms of media have felt like they dictate the terms and subjects of my thoughts and so I’ve turned to reading ad a form to regain control of my own thoughts and interest and throw off the tyranny of other people and things setting the agenda for my mind. I don’t know? Does that make sense? So lately I’ve been pursuing more classics but also modern books that seem to have merit for one reason or another. And my hope is to glean wisdom that I can hopefully enrich my life with instead of consuming mass media which has almost universally been bereft of benefit for me. Rather it’s caused anxiety and superficiality. I’d like to escape that.
I read a lot as a younger child, then began reading more regularly again when my Sophomore English teacher assigned us Ender's Game and Brave New World and was challenged by ideas in the books I was reading. I now read to escape, learn, and grow. I read fantasy/sci-fi for escapism, non-fiction/self-help to learn and grow. Although, I have learned a lot about myself through reading fantasy/sci-fi as well haha!
I read a lot of books revolving around my career. I’ve recently been enjoying dipping my toe back into fiction through Fredrick Bachman, Harry Potter, and the Red Rising series. I greatly appreciate the calm nature of these videos.
I like to read because I find it fun and uplifting. Reading books and getting into stories are able to bring inspiration in my own life. When I read a book and enjoy it I can find more ways to enjoy the world around me, to see people through news lens and to find better ways of living.I want to become a writer so reading also adds a lot to that. Reading is something that brings a lot of joy to me and I suppose that's one of the main reasons that I read. Mostly I like fantasy but any book with a good story will have me intrigued. I've been a reader since 15, I realized I wanted to actually start doing the things I want to do in life and not just think about them, reading was one of those things I always wanted to do but made excuses not to. I never read much as a kid. But my mom did buy me a nirvana book and Jim Morrison book when I was younger, which I’m forever grateful. I read a lot now and I love it so much.
I am so happy to read as an adult. There is a level of appreciation that I don't think I would have as a kid. Although looking back, I wish I grew up reading. Still very very grateful!

I'm sure I read a book or two in high school. I know I read The Firm by John Grisham, but not really sure why I chose it. I liked it, but I didn't get into reading until Freshman year of college. I was depressed because my Mom had lost her home as a result of the housing collapse, I stopped caring about class and was just drinking most days and playing video games. My best friend gave me a book, that has the corniest title, and not much that is truly profound called "I Feel Great And You Will Too" by Pat Croce. It just changed my way of thinking as he didn't come from the well off background, which I assumed being young and dumb that you had too. I learned about human psychology from that book and it changed the way I think. Helped me lose weight and get back on track. After reading it I suddenly started to wonder what other books were out there that could help me learn more. The next 4 years of college was less about the classes, but more about reading and meeting interesting people. Now I read things to relax and focus and for the first time starting to dive more into fiction as opposed to wasting time consuming brain rot and repetitive and uncreative TV shows.
I read because through reading, I’ve learned so much about life. I developed my passion for reading in undergrad (graduated in 2010), and ever since that time, my love for reading has increased. Reading books has helped me navigate life in terms of seeing and understanding certain things. I’m more aware of how the world works thanks to reading. Lastly, reading does help me spend less time on social media.
I feel you on the social media aspect! Time is too precious to doom scroll. SO why not read books? And the beauty of books isn't always about a good story. But the lessons we learn!
I've been reading since I was a kid on and off. At the start of 2023 I starting reading fairly regularly. It's typically always been to get lost in the worlds of high fantasy with some 'how to learn books' spread throughout. I think a goal I have for 2025 is to read more on how to draw/sketch effortlessly as art has been a hobby of mine for over three years now, and I'd love to used the skills that books touch on to further my skills.
I recommend this TH-cam channel JP Coovert, he has a lot of good advice on drawing towns, cities, and dungeons! And also some other videos on world drawing
I've been reading as long as I can remember. The first book I read was The Hobbit when I was like 6-7, and I've been hooked on Fantasy ever since. I also enjoy SF, horror, and the classics, and I read for a lot of the reasons you mentioned in this video. I feel reading has greatly enriched my life in a number of ways, and I feel like passing on my love of books to my kids is the latest way reading is improving my life. It's become a source of not just personal enjoyment but also quality family time.
Been reading mostly as an adult. I struggle with ADHD and only realized this as an adult. Homeschooling masked the learning opportunities but certainly explained my inability to sit down and go through something start to end. Prior to the awareness of ADHD about three years ago (in my late 30’s now) it was all self help books, mostly business books. Just knew I wasn’t good enough - and hoped books held the answer. Since this new awareness of ADHD - and the meds that come with it - I have not read a single self help/business book. It’s all biographies and fiction (Fantasy, Sci-fi, and crime). I still struggle to stick with books all the way through. I’ve recently ventured into Terry Pratchett’s Disc World starting with his book Mort. (It’s the arc following Death as he seeks an apprentice) it is clever and gets consistent laughter - often audibly - and all smiles. I struggle to find quiet moments as a husband and father to two young kiddos. Audio is sometimes a necessary medium, but far from what I enjoy most. Your channel has helped me to remember that “you can only read a book for the first time once, so enjoy it.”

Goosbumps as a kid. Then quit for a few years. Got back into it around 15/16. My friend introduced my to R. A. Salvatore, Drizz't Dourden series and my reading passion was reignited. Favorite genre is urban fantasy, fantasy, and romance. Occasional brach out, but primarily those three. Only genre I can't do is sci-fi. Very few exceptions and I've tried many times. I read because I like the stories, to see characters grow and change. Other reasons too, like you mentioned. But, primarily that. Congrats on 4000.😁

I read for the story, maybe it's escapism or immersion idk for sure but I think it's primarily if not just for the story. I got tired of the stories in other mediums tv, movies etc and I wanted more and different stories. While I still enjoy some game stories the great ones are either slow coming out or feel like they require more commitment then a 2000 page book, so I'll just have to work on them slowly as I feel like it. I personally never found the social media scroll to attract me, it felt mind numbing and boring. So I started picking up books again after dropping off of it in early college. First with audio then with physical books, I read the old Sherlock Holmes books, read the Darth Plagueis book, then I read the Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson (insane jump I know, but I picked books only off of their description nothing else) that was great and so I tried the other Cosmere books and found some of them good, some clearly earlier writing and the Mistborn books a bit to YA but still ok. After that I went back to those books I found by reading the description tried several and mostly didn't enjoy them books like the fifth season. I think I didn't like them in part because they felt like the simple bland and lacking stories I was trying to leave behind, despite the magic system or the world having some interesting details. Then I found Malazan spent the next year+ on only those books and then everything felt lacking after that so I went back to some of the classics like Dune which has been great so far. I will say I have kind of avoided Game of Thrones because despite the premise sounding interesting I found a lot of the TV show that kind of bland generic story (I think past season 1 ish but it's been a while), maybe I'll try it eventually after Dune, the Black company and The Once and Future King. I guess maybe you could say I read to find something new, something novel, something with quality that isn't found on every corner now a days (like good CGI).
As reading takes time I especially like books that playfully mix genres- I’m just finishing one that mixes history, fantasy, humour and horror- Suzanna Clarke’s Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. It’s like a modern take on classic Dickens book, set earlier in Georgian England but with magic. Can’t recommend it enough 👍
I like to read to experience stories, learn something new, and feel inspired. I think I’ve overdone it this year though, I’ve read 29 books so far. Last year I read 6, the year before that was 2. I remember my grandmother saying something a very long time ago when I was young. She said something like “books can be your best friend” that kind resonates now. It sounded weird when I was a kid. I love fantasy and sci-fi. I’m starting to get into history books, I think there is a lot to learn from the past.

I read a lot when I was young, then as I got into my young adulthood, I just couldn't find time for it. When I started having kids I found some time to read again, and I found a deep love for nonfiction. I think it was primarily because I needed an adult escape from my life of small children. Then last year I was at a family function and my cousin asked if I had read anything interesting lately. It made me realize that I hadn't been reading much, and I thought I should remedy that. For the first time ever, I've kept track of the books I've read this year. I've also fallen into booktube for the first time as well this year. Ultimately, I think I read because it's part of who I am. I also have a love of learning, so it's a great way to continue my education on my own terms.
It's so cool hearing different reading journeys. And we all read different books and read at our own pace. I don't have kids yet and I am sure it will change my life and how and when read. Loved hearing a bit of your story!
I'm a horror reader but try other genres once in a while and been a reader as soon as I could read. I am reading to pass time, and to take a break from my dull life because of health issues. Books makes me forget that I'm a lone wolf. Thanks for the topic.🌟

This is a little bit off-topic, but, I remember reading thousands of books when I was around 8. My mother actually made me read, due to the very common academic expectations in South Korea. Now I read by myself(which is obvious, since I’m 20), and I enjoy the fact that I can choose my own book, whether I end up liking it or not.
Not off topic at all. You now read books you actually want to read. And that is awesome. Reading books in school or because you have to is an entirely different experience. Book clubs too. You rarely get to read a book you want to read because you are influenced by the groups vote on a book. I think choosing a book you want to read brings a totally different level of enjoyment and magic!
I read to immerse myself in realities that I’m too afraid to face on my own. Whether it's fantasy, non-fiction, history, or philosophy, I seek stories or narratives that offer a different perspective. However, I’m more selective when it comes to fantasy, as some themes feel too personally biased, and the worldview often feels too narrow for me to embrace. Many authors either fail to justify these viewpoints or lack the depth to fully explore the subjects they introduce.
I actually want to make a video on this topic. How different perspectives are important in storytelling. On so many different levels I think having different character POVs add so much. What books do you think are too personally biased?
Approaching 5 years of no social media. Besides TH-cam. Finally feel like I am healing. I am 30 so I have been on social media since MySpace and tagged 😂. I read for pleasure and spiritual edification. So I am usually reading two books at once. A fiction and then a spiritual work from a saint from the Eastern Orthodox Church. Greatest part of books is there is one for everyone.
I've read ever since I was 3, and am now approaching 55. My parents always let me get as many books as I want, and I've never stopped. Ever since I bought my second Kindle in 2016, I've kept track of the books I read, just so no years go by where I get too sidetracked by other hobbies 😊
Hey I had to come back to an old video to find ya. So as you know I’m on the back end of Wheel of Time. I’ve been craving poetic and lyrical prose like my man Rothfuss. I’ve recently learned of a sci-fi series called Sun Eater. It’s 6 books and the final one releases this year. I’ve heard amazing things about it and the author’s style is up there with Rothfuss in beautiful and magical prose. Have you heard of this series or read it?? This might be my time to try scifi!

Have to admit, I read books to limit my phone usage and when I do it’ll be only on specific videos that I would like. Just started reading again and I mostly read classics and philosophy, I’m looking to read Dostoevsky and, Nietzsche and closely related to it. Have a great year ahead and more power.

Hi, my reading is for all the reasons you named, plus to go down memory lane, when I re-read books. It is just fun. However, I do feel a bit weird, when I say, that I love to read, because so many people just don't read. So one gets looked at, as though one does something not normal. On the other hand I wonder, how people spenden their free time without reading. So both sides wonder. Oh, I do not mean people, who have the misfortune of not even being able to read or who did not have a mother like yours or parents lke mine, who always supported reading. How would they know?
I read for the same reasons that you do, but also for different writing styles. I love reading how each author writes, similar to how directors have their own approach. I also love how books affect other peoples opinions on things. I’ve been branching out into new genres but my favorite is fantasy & horror. Looking forward to the next video!

Social media is bizarre. You are literally reading peoples minds. Okay, with permission obviously. But essentially, they are broadcasting something that happened and you are reacting to it. Whereas in the 1990s someone would have to tell you something happened and then give you access to photos, etc. Social media us bizarre.
I think I read somewhere that in the 1800s they didn't read much more than serious readers read now. Maybe 30 or 40 books a year. On the one hand this boggles my mind. There are no distractions. Television and radio don't yet exist. Neither does the internet. Then again, it makes sense. Obviously, most of the books we read now did not yet exist. But then again, people were obviously reading more, they just were not reading books. They obviously read everything, as reading was the only way to acquire knowledge or information. So they were distracted. Just by other things to read. Also, many of the classic novels we read were not yet books, but we're serialized in magazines. So there is that too. It just blows my mind.

I’ve really been thinking a lot about this actually. Reading has been becoming a more and more important aspect of my life in the past few years. It’s become important for me to pivot away from superficial entertainment into hopefully wisdom and insight. I’ve become especially motivated by a Haruki Murakami line, something like “if you read the same books as everyone else, you will think the same thoughts as everyone else”
I find this actually pertinent with regards to mass media, current events media, shows and podcasts and news media. These forms of media have felt like they dictate the terms and subjects of my thoughts and so I’ve turned to reading ad a form to regain control of my own thoughts and interest and throw off the tyranny of other people and things setting the agenda for my mind. I don’t know? Does that make sense? So lately I’ve been pursuing more classics but also modern books that seem to have merit for one reason or another. And my hope is to glean wisdom that I can hopefully enrich my life with instead of consuming mass media which has almost universally been bereft of benefit for me. Rather it’s caused anxiety and superficiality. I’d like to escape that.
I read a lot as a younger child, then began reading more regularly again when my Sophomore English teacher assigned us Ender's Game and Brave New World and was challenged by ideas in the books I was reading.
I now read to escape, learn, and grow. I read fantasy/sci-fi for escapism, non-fiction/self-help to learn and grow. Although, I have learned a lot about myself through reading fantasy/sci-fi as well haha!
I read because I love English language, and I want to improve it and increase my vocabularies.
I read a lot of books revolving around my career. I’ve recently been enjoying dipping my toe back into fiction through Fredrick Bachman, Harry Potter, and the Red Rising series. I greatly appreciate the calm nature of these videos.
I like to read because I find it fun and uplifting. Reading books and getting into stories are able to bring inspiration in my own life. When I read a book and enjoy it I can find more ways to enjoy the world around me, to see people through news lens and to find better ways of living.I want to become a writer so reading also adds a lot to that. Reading is something that brings a lot of joy to me and I suppose that's one of the main reasons that I read. Mostly I like fantasy but any book with a good story will have me intrigued. I've been a reader since 15, I realized I wanted to actually start doing the things I want to do in life and not just think about them, reading was one of those things I always wanted to do but made excuses not to. When I started reading I realized how much I enjoy it

I never read much as a kid. But my mom did buy me a nirvana book and Jim Morrison book when I was younger, which I’m forever grateful. I read a lot now and I love it so much.
I am so happy to read as an adult. There is a level of appreciation that I don't think I would have as a kid. Although looking back, I wish I grew up reading. Still very very grateful!

She really was an angel. I am so thankful for the time I had with her. How she raised me. This thanksgiving marked 9 years since she passed. Each day has been an honor to carry on her legacy through my life. If only I read back then. She and I could talk more about books!

I'm sure I read a book or two in high school. I know I read The Firm by John Grisham, but not really sure why I chose it. I liked it, but I didn't get into reading until Freshman year of college. I was depressed because my Mom had lost her home as a result of the housing collapse, I stopped caring about class and was just drinking most days and playing video games. My best friend gave me a book, that has the corniest title, and not much that is truly profound called "I Feel Great And You Will Too" by Pat Croce. It just changed my way of thinking as he didn't come from the well off background, which I assumed being young and dumb that you had too. I learned about human psychology from that book and it changed the way I think. Helped me lose weight and get back on track. After reading it I suddenly started to wonder what other books were out there that could help me learn more. The next 4 years of college was less about the classes, but more about reading and meeting interesting people. Now I read things to relax and focus and for the first time starting to dive more into fiction as opposed to wasting time consuming brain rot and repetitive and uncreative TV shows.

I read because through reading, I’ve learned so much about life. I developed my passion for reading in undergrad (graduated in 2010), and ever since that time, my love for reading has increased. Reading books has helped me navigate life in terms of seeing and understanding certain things. I’m more aware of how the world works thanks to reading. Lastly, reading does help me

I feel you on the social media aspect! Time is too precious to doom scroll. SO why not read books? And the beauty of books isn't always about a good story. But the lessons we learn!
I've been reading since I was a kid on and off. At the start of 2023 I starting reading fairly regularly. It's typically always been to get lost in the worlds of high fantasy with some 'how to learn books' spread throughout. I think a goal I have for 2025 is to read more on how to draw/sketch effortlessly as art has been a hobby of mine for over three years now, and I'd love to used the skills that books touch on to further my skills.

I recommend this TH-cam channel JP Coovert, he has a lot of good advice on drawing towns, cities, and dungeons! And also some other videos on world drawing

I've been reading as long as I can remember. The first book I read was The Hobbit when I was like 6-7, and I've been hooked on Fantasy ever since. I also enjoy SF, horror, and the classics, and I read for a lot of the reasons you mentioned in this video. I feel reading has greatly enriched my life in a number of ways, and I feel like passing on my love of books to my kids is the latest way reading is improving my life. It's become a source of not just personal enjoyment but also quality family time.
Been reading mostly as an adult. I struggle with ADHD and only realized this as an adult. Homeschooling masked the learning opportunities but certainly explained my inability to sit down and go through something start to end.
Prior to the awareness of ADHD about three years ago (in my late 30’s now) it was all self help books, mostly business books. Just knew I wasn’t good enough - and hoped books held the answer.
Since this new awareness of ADHD - and the meds that come with it - I have not read a single self help/business book. It’s all biographies and fiction (Fantasy, Sci-fi, and crime). I still struggle to stick with books all the way through.
I’ve recently ventured into Terry Pratchett’s Disc World starting with his book Mort. (It’s the arc following Death as he seeks an apprentice) it is clever and gets consistent laughter - often audibly - and all smiles.
I struggle to find quiet moments as a husband and father to two young kiddos. Audio is sometimes a necessary medium, but far from what I enjoy most.
Your channel has helped me to remember that “you can only read a book for the first time once, so enjoy it.”

Goosbumps as a kid. Then quit for a few years. Got back into it around 15/16. My friend introduced my to R. A. Salvatore, Drizz't Dourden series and my reading passion was reignited. Favorite genre is urban fantasy, fantasy, and romance. Occasional brach out, but primarily those three. Only genre I can't do is sci-fi. Very few exceptions and I've tried many times. I read because I like the stories, to see characters grow and change. Other reasons too, like you mentioned. But, primarily that. Congrats on 4000.😁

Second, I read to escape reality, to see a character grow with their tasks and to get lost in the beauty of a new world where dragons and fairies are roaming. I think our world has so many problems that if you don’t shut your brain of once in a while it can get really depressing, so Reading is my therapy 🥹🎉

To piggy back on your comment about imagination, I too love how books can feed my imagination. But also...books exercise my imagination. And I think that is so important for anyone. Especially those who are creative!

I read for the story, maybe it's escapism or immersion idk for sure but I think it's primarily if not just for the story. I got tired of the stories in other mediums tv, movies etc and I wanted more and different stories. While I still enjoy some game stories the great ones are either slow coming out or feel like they require more commitment then a 2000 page book, so I'll just have to work on them slowly as I feel like it.
I personally never found the social media scroll to attract me, it felt mind numbing and boring. So I started picking up books again after dropping off of it in early college. First with audio then with physical books, I read the old Sherlock Holmes books, read the Darth Plagueis book, then I read the Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson (insane jump I know, but I picked books only off of their description nothing else) that was great and so I tried the other Cosmere books and found some of them good, some clearly earlier writing and the Mistborn books a bit to YA but still ok. After that I went back to those books I found by reading the description tried several and mostly didn't enjoy them books like the fifth season. I think I didn't like them in part because they felt like the simple bland and lacking stories I was trying to leave behind, despite the magic system or the world having some interesting details. Then I found Malazan spent the next year+ on only those books and then everything felt lacking after that so I went back to some of the classics like Dune which has been great so far. I will say I have kind of avoided Game of Thrones because despite the premise sounding interesting I found a lot of the TV show that kind of bland generic story (I think past season 1 ish but it's been a while), maybe I'll try it eventually after Dune, the Black company and The Once and Future King.
I guess maybe you could say I read to find something new, something novel, something with quality that isn't found on every corner now a days (like good CGI).
As reading takes time I especially like books that playfully mix genres- I’m just finishing one that mixes history, fantasy, humour and horror- Suzanna Clarke’s Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. It’s like a modern take on classic Dickens book, set earlier in Georgian England but with magic. Can’t recommend it enough 👍
I like to read to experience stories, learn something new, and feel inspired. I think I’ve overdone it this year though, I’ve read 29 books so far. Last year I read 6, the year before that was 2.
I remember my grandmother saying something a very long time ago when I was young. She said something like “books can be your best friend” that kind resonates now. It sounded weird when I was a kid.
I love fantasy and sci-fi. I’m starting to get into history books, I think there is a lot to learn from the past.

I read a lot when I was young, then as I got into my young adulthood, I just couldn't find time for it. When I started having kids I found some time to read again, and I found a deep love for nonfiction. I think it was primarily because I needed an adult escape from my life of small children. Then last year I was at a family function and my cousin asked if I had read anything interesting lately. It made me realize that I hadn't been reading much, and I thought I should remedy that. For the first time ever, I've kept track of the books I've read this year. I've also fallen into booktube for the first time as well this year. Ultimately, I think I read because it's part of who I am. I also have a love of learning, so it's a great way to continue my education on my own terms.

I'm a horror reader but try other genres once in a while and been a reader as soon as I could read. I am reading to pass time, and to take a break from my dull life because of health issues. Books makes me forget that I'm a lone wolf. Thanks for the topic.🌟

Sorry for being such a buzz kill, but I had to put my dog down a few days ago and your calm presence and video have been a great source of comfort. Just wanted to let you know that your videos make a genuine impact on people. Having said, I read to get lost in another world and hopefully connect to the characters. Boy`s Life by Robert Mccammon is my favorite book and it captures the essence of why I love books. I think it`s right up your alley!
I will never know what that feels like. I am so sorry. My wife had to put her dog down a few years ago. It is one of the hardest things to happen in life. We do not deserve dogs. They are truly a member of the family. I am in awe that my videos can have an impact on people's lives. I am so happy I can bring joy in your life especially during this time.

This is a little bit off-topic, but, I remember reading thousands of books when I was around 8. My mother actually made me read, due to the very common academic expectations in South Korea. Now I read by myself(which is obvious, since I’m 20), and I enjoy the fact that I can choose my own book, whether I end up liking it or not.
Not off topic at all. You now read books you actually want to read. And that is awesome. Reading books in school or because you have to is an entirely different experience. Book clubs too. You rarely get to read a book you want to read because you are influenced by the groups vote on a book.
I think choosing a book you want to read brings a totally different level of enjoyment and magic!
I read to immerse myself in realities that I’m too afraid to face on my own. Whether it's fantasy, non-fiction, history, or philosophy, I seek stories or narratives that offer a different perspective.
However, I’m more selective when it comes to fantasy, as some themes feel too personally biased, and the worldview often feels too narrow for me to embrace. Many authors either fail to justify these viewpoints or lack the depth to fully explore the subjects they introduce.
I actually want to make a video on this topic. How different perspectives are important in storytelling. On so many different levels I think having different character POVs add so much. What books do you think are too personally biased?
Approaching 5 years of no social media. Besides TH-cam. Finally feel like I am healing. I am 30 so I have been on social media since MySpace and tagged 😂. I read for pleasure and spiritual edification. So I am usually reading two books at once. A fiction and then a spiritual work from a saint from the Eastern Orthodox Church. Greatest part of books is there is one for everyone.
I've read ever since I was 3, and am now approaching 55. My parents always let me get as many books as I want, and I've never stopped. Ever since I bought my second Kindle in 2016, I've kept track of the books I read, just so no years go by where I get too sidetracked by other hobbies 😊

Hey I had to come back to an old video to find ya. So as you know I’m on the back end of Wheel of Time. I’ve been craving poetic and lyrical prose like my man Rothfuss.
I’ve recently learned of a sci-fi series called Sun Eater. It’s 6 books and the final one releases this year.
I’ve heard amazing things about it and the author’s style is up there with Rothfuss in beautiful and magical prose.
Have you heard of this series or read it??

Just started reading again and I mostly read classics and philosophy, I’m looking to read Dostoevsky and, Nietzsche and closely related to it. Have a great year ahead and more power.

Hi, my reading is for all the reasons you named, plus to go down memory lane, when I re-read books. It is just fun. However, I do feel a bit weird, when I say, that I love to read, because so many people just don't read. So one gets looked at, as though one does something not normal. On the other hand I wonder, how people spenden their free time without reading. So both sides wonder.
Oh, I do not mean people, who have the misfortune of not even being able to read or who did not have a mother like yours or parents lke mine, who always supported reading. How would they know?

I read for the same reasons that you do, but also for different writing styles. I love reading how each author writes, similar to how directors have their own approach. I also love how books affect other peoples opinions on things. I’ve been branching out into new genres but my favorite is fantasy & horror. Looking forward to the next video!

And I totally agree with you on the directors and their approach. You can take the same prompt or script and hand it to 3 different directors. Each of them will have 3 totally different visions when it comes to those scripts!

Social media is bizarre. You are literally reading peoples minds. Okay, with permission obviously. But essentially, they are broadcasting something that happened and you are reacting to it. Whereas in the 1990s someone would have to tell you something happened and then give you access to photos, etc. Social media us bizarre.
I think I read somewhere that in the 1800s they didn't read much more than serious readers read now. Maybe 30 or 40 books a year. On the one hand this boggles my mind. There are no distractions. Television and radio don't yet exist. Neither does the internet. Then again, it makes sense. Obviously, most of the books we read now did not yet exist. But then again, people were obviously reading more, they just were not reading books. They obviously read everything, as reading was the only way to acquire knowledge or information. So they were distracted. Just by other things to read. Also, many of the classic novels we read were not yet books, but we're serialized in magazines. So there is that too. It just blows my mind.
