  • In this video, we share the linen backing and restoration processes being performed on a "Star Wars" British Quad movie poster. This poster was done for a UK Client "Vintage and Modern Movie Art" who will be opening shop soon!
    The Poster:
The British quad poster for the 1977 film "Star Wars," designed by Tom Chantrell, is an iconic piece of cinematic art renowned for its dynamic composition and vibrant color palette. Chantrell's poster captures the essence of the film's adventurous spirit, featuring dramatic depictions of Luke, Leia, and Darth Vader, set against a backdrop of space battles and starships. The artwork's vivid and detailed style contributed to the film's allure, helping to attract audiences with its promise of epic adventure and intergalactic intrigue. This poster has since become a treasured collector's item and a symbol of the film's enduring legacy.

I have some experience with the colored-pencil method of filling in crease lines from when I was a custom framer, and I must say the layering of colors in the 3:40 segment was magnificent.

I don’t understand. In my 50 years of life, every time I’ve put water on paper, it has warped and melted and died. What in the world is happening here? This is like fire freezing something.

I suppose since it has that plastic sheet giving it structure, and then squeegeed/ mounted taut to the canvas so wrinkling wouldn't be a possibility.
Id also assume they go about it on a case by case basis, like if they were dealing with something using water soluble ink.

you can wet a paper so long as it's on a flat even surface that supports its shape. in order for it to dry flat you then have to weigh it down (or glue it I suppose?). paper warps when you let it dry without support because the fibers spread out unevenly.
      not an expert though.
