Going to buy a Rev 2 tomorrow, I’ve tried it a few days ago together with a P5, and I like it. We all have to stop reading what others say, we have ears to listen to the sounds, this machine is a beast and it can sound great. Thanks for this demo
This is one of those wonderful synthesizer videos on youtube that show you that aspirational instruments are beautiful, but that being a practiced and skilled player is ultimately what you are really dreaming about. And now I want a Rev2. lol
Aw, thanks for the shout out, bud!... Glad to see you're using Vintage Voice Modeling! These sound amazing!.. gonna have to get this 🙂 ...and your playing is always so inspiring. Cheers!, Jason
I keep coming back to this demo, probably some of the best patches I've heard for this synth. the "OB-X Pad" patch is a testament to how versatile this thing can be if you put in the time tweaking it
This video proves the point that the REV2 being interesting, in your face and vibe laden is just a matter of programming. I love it more than words can describe.
I heard these and said "He's definitely using VCM techniques" ... then I read the description! Honestly, this patch set is worth the price just to have a set of "starting templates" based upon various VCM techniques. I NEVER buy patch sets, but this will be an exception for that very reason!
@@elliespohr Voice Component Modeling! "It's focused on virtual voice-by-voice modeling down to the component level, and allows a high level of definition to polyphonic sounds. Much of the character of a given instrument or ensemble comes from small imperfections on a voice-by-voice basis. Just bought these. I'm only a few in and already got something nice going on in a track I'm working on. Usually if I buy presets, I go through the whole lot and don't always find anything inspiring. These are easily the most usable patches I've bought for my Rev 2 so far. Excellent work! 👏
Been a while since I sat down late night and learned some voicings. That 7:08 to 7:16 was a nice little motion. Hits me right in the side of my heart that has a Herbie Butterfly moment mixed with a Chick Corea intro to You're Everything moment. I bought this instantly. Thanks for your great work and time doing this!
Bro you just killed it 17:52. For real amazing 👏 like a new blade runner track. Man you play amazingly well. Thanks for sharing and showing me how my Rev 2 16 is supposed to sound like 👍.
Oh you pain me. Pain me. Because I'll never be able to play like this. Or even think along these lines. Love it man. What playing jesus. What voicings. What technique. And sounds that perfectly compliment all of the above. Beautiful. Hope you're getting enough sleep :)
Just wow dude! Super impressive and useable sounds! That's the thing with many synths is you have to spend a lot of time tweaking and can easily lose the initial ideas in your head. Not knocking that, as it's fun to experiment but getting the ideas out is what I'm looking for and I'll tweak things later. Great stuff!
Holy cow! That electric piano patch is wonderful! (Synth EP MK 1 at 6:56.) @J3PO, is that a single layer or dual? I’ve been experimenting with a second layer on another synth to try and create the thunk of the mechanism of a Rhodes.
@@DanInGreen i have one too! It can do alot of stuff, it's good for pads, brass and leads.had a bit to struggle at the beginning with the different ADSR options (Amplifier and Auxilary Envelope). Love the Feature where you can turn on and off the 4 Pole option. The Presets are not that good in my opinion, but when it comes to making your own patches, it's really cool and handy! Oh, and the Prophet is the best value for the money, it offers alot more if you compare it to a Deepmind 12 or a Prologue.
@@DanInGreen I've owned a Rev 2 since 2017, and while I love it, it's definitely a "You get the work you put into it back out" machine. It's got a lot of sweet spots, and once you really know your way around it can sound fantastic, but compared to something like a P6/OB6 it takes a lot more time to learn and dial in the synth because of how bright the filter is in both modes. It's a careful balancing act to balance key tracking against the filter sometimes to get sounds that aren't too buzzy, but aren't dull. I think the biggest advantage of the rev2 is how well it blends with other synths. I have a lot of other digital stuff, and using the rev2 as a kind of gooy analog core for a more modern FM/Wavetable thing up top works really well. Also the synth needs external FX and processing pretty badly (I usually only ever use the inbuilt chorus, and sometimes the BBD, but that's about it) since the onboard effects are so limited, and some of them aren't that great. A good reverb plugin goes a long way. Hope this helps.
One thing to note is that in the video the sound is EQ'd, compressed and limited so the patches sound a lot beefier and punchier than they actually are, just something to bear in mind if purchasing.
I see ads for cool shirts etc online and I think, “that’s a good looking shirt”. I buy it and when I put it on? “Hey what the hell!!” Then I realize the models showing off the shirt in the ad HAVE GREAT BUILDS WITH DEFINED MUSCLE. I want a REV2 and this video makes me think, Is it the Synth? Is it 3POs playing that sells the “shirt”?
I have this synth and love it. I’m tempted by the new Prophet 5, but will I get much more from the much more expensive re issue P5 than I can get from the Rev2.
4:42 - "Brassy" is a Vibe, no wait, a mantra! You know name it, that sound is fat and wideeeee. Analogous to what the sound of the OBx(a) does for me :0
Is it bad that I’m waiting for this video, with both a Rev 2 and a prophet 6 in a basket on a music store online. And this video will determine which I delete from the basket?
i think you'd be better off with a rev2 and ob6, you can make a rev2 sound close to a p6 but the ob6 is a totally different beast that is hard for prophets to imitate
Hey! Love these sounds and I really want to buy your pack! However, I already have the nick semrad pack on bank 3 1-50. Is it possible to move these patches to another spot so they don’t overwrite each other?
The Jupiter-X was a good synth. However, sadly, it has just died a cold, lonely death. The DSI Prophet Rev 2 will have to live with blood on its hands.
I'm here for the chord voicings as much as I am for the patches. Amazing as usual.
Man, if you could buy the skills as well...
this honestly puts other rev2 demonstrations to shame - incredible musicianship and programming
There is a demo for boards of Canada and tyco patches that is amazing as well this is totally legit tho.

Gorgeous. These patches really show the Rev2 as the sound design monster it is.
I’m gonna use the “came for / stayed for” construct. Came for the patches, stayed for the beautiful voicings. Well done. 👍🪗
WOW - these are some of the best patches I’ve heard for the Rev2. Puts to rest any notions that it’s a “generic”sounding synth!
Its hard work though. Just making a simple patch is an arduous process.
These are some of the best and most well rounded set of patches I’ve heard. I’m a new Rev 2 owner, and these are giving me life RN.

Giant Steps 4:10 Lol. Blown away by the first patch but the list goes on in this video. Best synth patch video I’ve seen on TH-cam
seriously that Rev 2 is super powerful. I am loving the brass, bass, and leads.
