I'm going buy the rev2 based on these amazing patches. I have researched for 3 months solid beginning with the sequential take 5, then P5/P10 and P6 to Ob6. The rev2 covers so much ground that won't break the bank, thanks for helping me finally decide and I will be purchasing your sound's!!
It's the most versatile synth of all those. Only reason it's cheaper is it uses DCOs instead of VCOs, and to my ear DCOs kinda sound better in polyphony ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ hope you're enjoying the synth if you bought it!
@@mississippijohnfahey7175 i had it for a year and it is an amazing synth but i was not able to programme it well. I decided on a Novation summit and it is an amazing synth, altho hybrid it beats the rev2 hands down with features.
I was a bit hesitating for buying this synth , after hearing your sounds no hesitations, that s so cool sounding !!!!
This soundset has made my Rev2 so much more inspiring.
Some of the best classic sounds I've heard yet. Does a great job showing how flexible it is and how different it still sounds from the 6 and 5.
With a last name like Neptune, I gotta say these pad sounds are out of this world!

I am somewhat in disbelief that you made all of these sounds on a rev2. The brass patches make sense. The “Jump” patch makes no sense how you got so damn close on a rev2. Unbelievable. Great work!

Aren't the OB-Xa and Rev2 using Curtis filters? For all the newb talk about how the Rev2 sounds "digital" I think it NAILS the classic synth sounds, even in the factory preset bank. Most people aren't hating on this synth, but the ones that are, I think are oblivious to the similarities between the P5, OB-6, OB-Xa, Rev2, etc. They're not clones, but they have a lot of very similar voice characteristics and the Rev2 is the only one with 16 voices.
@@daemonelectricity those are very different Curtis filters. But again - people that say Rev2 sounds "digital" clearly have zero clue. Yes it doesn't sound as lively as P5, P6 or OB-Xa due to DCOs and not the best filter out there - but it's still a solid analog poly. Also people who say that modern synths don't sound "vintage" usually base their opinions on stock patches. Naturally patches on analog synths from the '80s sound literally '80s even if really generic and nothing special and modern stock patches sound just as generic but modern - so of course people who just swiped through a few of them would say "meh this doesn't sound vintage". Of course it wouldn't. It's just a saw, a pulse and a triangle ran through the filter in a nutshell. How they run through it is up to you.
@@wrmusic8736 I just got my rev2 and before buying it I was switching back and forth between several other synths.. But at the end I'm happy with my choice. I dont have that much money and the rev2 seemed like a very capable option in so much ways. I can do complex Ambient background pads, upfront leads, transition effects.. (and of course many more) And with the options of the rev2 i can decide if i it sounds lush or not. There are of course many synths that can do certain things better than the rev2.. If I have more money some day I can still get a vco based synth (with a lusher/warmer raw tone) which would be a nice addition to the rev 2.
My eyes opened wide listening to Jump. That is one of the closest imitations I have ever heard!

Just watched an OB-X8 / Prophet 16 voice Rev2 comparison video. The big sonic difference in the Rev2 vs. the OB-X8 seems to me is the “sizzle” and the bottom end. The OB-X8 seems to have a slightly deeper bottom end than the Rev2, but they basically seem on par in the “sizzle” department-though I would characterize the OB’s high end as more “sharp” for lack of a better word and the Rev2’s high end as softer and warmer. At which point it’s just a matter of which apple you prefer-either you like Granny Smith or you more prefer Fujis. I’m a Fuji man myself so I’ll be grabbing a Rev2 off the branch.
Just had a chance to load up the presets and boy, many of these pad sounds are just brilliant. Great poly and string sounds. Awesome work!
Nice! Your patches are really inspiring. Considering the Rev Module as space is getting tight. To hear you say you were blown away by the Rev is quite an endorsement. You've mastered the OB and the P6. Maybe its me... but the Novation Summit just does not have the sonic punch of these DSI instruments. Love my OB! Keep up the great work!

What I like about this video is you’re playing great music. The sounds are fantastic as well.
I've made similar patches on my Prophet 08 , goes to show if you learn the architecture of a synth you achieve fantastic sounds, too many people just use the presets and modify them slightly.
You make the Rev2 sound really yummy!
These are pretty incredible patches - excellent work.
I struggled with the same decision. Rev 2/P6/OB6. Based on Luke’s patches, got a used mint REV 2 16 voice for $1700. Added the patches, external reverb. Beauty in a box.

Wonderful sounds, Luke! I think, the Rev2 ( and earlier Prophet 8 also) sounds to me more directly, more fat and warm, more pure synth as P6 or OB6. Great Synth. Love it! Sorry for my english.
Its more mix friendly in my opinion, but doesnt sound as full on its own. But when you have a bass player guitars and vocals the rev2 is the best in my opinion. It cuts thruuu

The dislikes are from the people without ears or a head for that matter.
The "replica" sounds aren´t soo close than many others out there ,but the VERY good playing can´t cover the flaws ,as you say with head and the ears ,they are hard judges.Not trying to be negative and saying that it isn´t good done ,but replica sounds have to be very close to pass that test(ie analogaudio1)......but hey,thumbs up despite that ,and her we have many good sounds !

Those soft strings are gorgeous. I’m actually surprised at how good this synth can sound. Have you ever considered making multi-synth patches for people who have, say, both the OB-6 and rev2? Guess that wouldn’t be very practical as that audience is likely very tiny
The Rev2 has surprised me too. I knew it was a good sounding synth but it's kind of blown me away to be honest. I love it.... Regarding the multi synth patches. It's an interesting idea but like you say the audience may be quiet limited. But never say never ;)

I have a prologue and honestly I can’t pull the trigger to swap it for a rev 2….it’s a fantastic synth but there is some character in the prologue that resonates with me more

@@mpmi7588 I keep going back and forth between this and P6. But what has me coming back to the Rev2 is the bi timbral feature that is lacking on P6, unless you go up to the P10!
I already have a Model D clone, so I am wondering if I won't really need a P6 for VCO if I get a Rev2 after all? Also will get 2 more voices with an option to expand up to 16 with the expansion kit. At least that's my current state of logical thinking.
@@ghostfrom1950 I ended up getting a pro 3 so I could have the SEQUENTIAL sound and sample it into one of my samplers and make it a poly with unlimited notes to be played multi timbrally and with a cooler sequencer.
@@mpmi7588 Interesting direction. I would consider the Take 5. But my biggest issue is space. So I was considering the Desktop Rev2 or a desktop P6. Oddly enough, Matt Johnson in his video had a lot of criticisms about the Take5. It suprsied me
@@ghostfrom1950 yeah the take 5 came out after I purchased the polybrute. I don't even play keys so for analog poly sound designing, I feel as though I've made off very nicely. Had that take 5 came out a bit earlier, I'd have gotten it
You are a great sound designer! I stumbled upon your channel while trying to find comparisons between the REV2 and the Summit. I love both synths and can’t make up my mind which one to choose. I have a lot of digital sound engines in my studio and I am looking for an analogue poly to complement them. Good to know that you offer sound banks for both!

I wanted to ask a few questions:
1. Did you buy the 8-voices or 16-voices version?
2. If this is the 16-voices, was it common in these patches to use the stack mode?
Asking because I have the 8-voice Rev2, thus I'd like to see if I must expect a reduced polyphony with most patches in your soundset.

@@brennanmcnally Hi Brennan. ☺ Most sound designers who share/advertize their soundsets via TH-cam get asked that question. I have read a large number of their responses, and I do not recall even one of them stating that the 8-voice version sounds inferior in an obvious way. That means Luke's soundset with impress you & your listeners/audience with the 8-voice version. ☺
For most styles of music, the main limitation with the 8-voice version occurs if you're playing in Split or Stacked mode. If you happen to have 'busy'/complex parts in both synth engine A and synth engine B, then you may experience 'voice stealing', cut-outs/drop-outs, etc.. So, in that case, the more limited polyphony of the 8-voice version may be an issue.
Also, I have read comments from some owners who upgraded their synth to the 16-voice version, and they found that copying a single-layer patch into both synth engine A and synth engine B did produce a slightly fuller & deeper tone when playing in Stacked mode.
Therefore, I would suggest this: If your budget limits you to the 8-voice version, don't feel as if you should wait until you can afford the 16-voice version. The fact is that you will be very happy with the 8-voice version & the sounds you will use/create will sound excellent by anybody's standards. And keep this in mind: If you find that polyphony is an issue, or you want to give some patches a slight boost in thickness, presence & depth, you can either sell your 8-voice & purchase a 16-voice, or you can purchase the upgrade kit that Dave Smith/Sequential sells on their website, then install it to give you 16-voices.

Amazing soundset. I was 100% decided on a prologue but this makes me reconsider. If you happen to see this could you share your thoughts on the rev2 vs prologue?
trying to like the Rev2 I just got. Sounds nice. Very disappointed it really has no ready way of separate Pitchbend or Modwheel for the other layer in multimode. So they say it's 'bi-timbral' but not completely.

ZombieTactics it comes as a Sysex file so yes you’ll need a Sysex editor such as Sysex Librarian or MidiOX. You get step by step instructions on how to load the sounds on purchase. It’s a very simple process 🙂

Impressive work, I've never heard such beautiful sounds on this synth since I started checking it for a potential purchase. I don't own any hardware synth at the moment. I'm playing on Diva, I love it, but I want to upgrade massively lol.

Thanks for the kind words Francis. I’ve not had much experience with the Prologue so can’t say much apart from that I think it sounds great in the demos I’ve heard. I’d recommend checking out the Novation Summit too. I’ve just released a soundset for it that you can find on my page. I’d say it’s a bit warmer than the Rev2 but the Rev2 has a bit more fizz so it’s a case of which one you prefer.

Wow, this sounds really deep, warm & alive. I spent years trying to talk myself into a Prophet 08 because I loved the idea of it, but could never gel with the sound (played it tons in stores, owned both a Mopho & Mono Evolver, wasn't super happy with either). I've heard the Rev2 is basically the same synth with better FX - are there no other sonic differences? Because this sounds _really_ different. Softer, warmer, less stiff.
basically, the rev 2 is pro-08 on steroids. It's 16-voice (though you can also get an 8-voice version), it has a larger mod matrix, it can stack or split different patches, it has a 64-step polyphonic (6 voices if I remember correctly) sequencer and also a gated sequencer
I’ve had the Prophet 08 and this has a wider sound palette and to me sounds much better. I’m in the market for a Rev2 too!
@@andreafox7267 IMHO, the Prophet-08 isn't in the same league as the Rev.2, although both require careful sound design to sound their best (e.g. Mike in Level 42 managed to coax some good sounds out of the P-08 that sounded great in the mix). However, no matter what, the P-08 sounded too thin to me & even rather 'digital' (even though it's not a digital synth), while the Rev.2 has some 'beef' to it. The only thing I don't like about the Rev.2 is that it can some a bit harsh & 'fizzy' in some patches. (all said FWIW and IMHO...)

it's most likely PWM-based strings that are layered: layerA: playing in low octaves, 2 pole filter mode with fairly closed filter and some slight smooth attack/decay filter envelope with chorus, layer B: higher octaves, LFO modulation of OSC frequency, chorus again.
In fact chorus is a thing that usually makes the tone sound much smoother and sorta "flowing"
I could play that Pad/lead split @ 5:24 for an hour++! Takes me back to video game soundtracks crossover with house.
Btw, I'm jumping back here after listening to the Summit patches and I'm in disbelief that those samples sound nothing like the character that I'm hearing from the Rev2 in these videos? Yet people in those comments (Novation Summit) love it. Compared to the flavor (not the sound design) I'm picking up on these Rev2 samples, I would never choose the Summit over the Rev2. Anyone else noticing this or am I hearing/not hearing things?

Hey Luke fantastic soundset you have obviously put a lot of hard work into this and others you have created.
Just wanted to ask you I am selling a lot of my gear to fund one of the poly synths below and was wondering which one you would choose.
I have watched a lot of you tube videos but I am still unsure which one to purchase so your advise would be very much appreciated.
1. Korg prologue16 voice. 2. sequential prophet 6 3.DSI REV 2 16 VOICE 4. Oberheim OB6.
steve james those are all great sounding synths. You can’t go wrong with either. What kind of music are going to be making with it? I should be able to whittle it down for you if I know that.

You've probably made your purchase by now, but I will say that the OB6 & P-6 instantly take you into 80s nostalgia territory, especially the OB-6. However, they both can do a more modern take on Synth Wave. So, if you have those two, you are covered for most sounds, except Roland ones. If you can only afford one, the Rev.2 may be the most flexible & versatile, it has the ability to do layering & splits, and it has a much more extensive mod-matrix. IMHO, the P-6 & OB-6 have a superior quality of sound....pro studio quality in fact, but the Rev.2 is good too. Listen to all of Luke's P-6, OB-6 & Rev.2 soundsets here on YT (there are a lot), and try all three synths in the stores if you can.
