  • The J3PO OB-6 Patches: Vintage, Retro, and Beyond - for the DSI/Sequential OB-6 synthesizer.
    You can buy these patches for your OB-6 from www.j3po.net
    There are 50 patches in this bank and they will load to 250-299 on your OB-6. The cost is $35 USD.
    Inspired by the sounds of yesterday and today, this set of patches features tones inspired by the original Oberheim synthesizers such as the OB-X, the OB-Xa, the OB-8, and the Matrix 12. The Bank also features patches from famous songs in the rock, pop, R/nB, and soul genres by artists such as Prince, Rush, Zapp and Roger, Michael Jackson, Toto, and many others. Also featured in the set are patches inspired by retro movies and TV shows such as Netflix’s Stranger Things (music and sound design by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein). Finally, the patch bank features tones that are perhaps considered more “contemporary,” that me and my keyboard buds would use in a live setting: sounds inspired by contemporaries such as Nicholas Semrad, Big Yuki, Christian Almiron, MXXWLL, Cory Henry, The Lesson GK, and many others. I hope you enjoy this patch bank, as it was a lot of fun to create!
    00:00 - The Legends: OB-X, OB-Xa, OB-8, Matrix 12
    04:19 - Famous Rock tunes of the 80s
    06:14 - Famous Pop/RnB/Soul tunes of the 80s
    08:46 - 80s Soundtracks/Movies/TV/Scores
    14:30 - Yesterday, Reimagined (the sounds of today)
    Available on www.j3po.net
    I also have patches available for the Prophet 6, and a free bank of 50 sounds for the free VST synth “OB-Xd” - all available on my website. If you're a Nord Stage 3 user, download my bank from the Nord Keyboards website.

    that feeling when you start considering buying a three thousand dollar synth solely to use a thirty five dollar presets pack. excellent work man, these all sound amazing!

    • @HarryRauer
      @HarryRauer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Oh yes, man I totally agree: I think Julian should spend hours and hours on crafting these beautiful sounds and give it away for free to all the knobheads in this world! I will suggest the same to my solicitor, who charges 300 bucks an hour. Btw: you don‘t have to spend three thousand dollars on a OB6 - you can wait until behringer markets the long announced UB-XA - beautifully handcrafted in China for a fraction of the price of the OB.... and maybe in 30 years we can than all move to China with our kids and grand children because in our own countries there will be nothing left, due to chronic „cheap-ism“ of all the cheapskates.

      @@gasolineandwine good morning - at the time I wrote the response I was pretty annoyed by the fact that Behringer pinched the Oberheim brand from Gibson without paying one cent (except to their lawyers). I am generally pretty pi**** off by people who want cheap things cheaper without seeing all the work and craft that's behind a product - and finally contribute to the rise of companies like "Behringer" - that counterfeit products just to maximize their own profit! So that spit in my coffee - BUT: You're absolutely right: I misunderstood the message from the other person. So: mea culpa! Stay safe!

      Lyle was a genius, one of the great keyboardists in the era of the greatest (J Zawinul, H Hancock, C Corea, J Hammer, D Stewart, G Duke, K Minnear, etc). His synth work was very under appreciated as he programmed wonderfully subtle evolving organic textures, instead of big flashy patches. And his piano work was utterly sublime

    Thanks so much, I bought this patch bank last week and I'm having a lot of fun with your sounds! I absolutely love my OB-6. I bought it after I sold off my Oberherim Matrix 1000, Oberheim Matrix 6, and Oberheim DPX-1, and it's definitely made up for their departure, yet adds so much more. The only minor issue I have with my OB-6 is that I'm horrible at remembering which numbers I save my patches under, which takes some finesse to arrange before a live performance. I have several other DSI / Sequential synths and I got so used to naming patches after the songs I write.... whereas the song "Roller Girl" will have the patches named according to where they are used in the song, (Roller Girl Pad, Roller Girl Arp, Roller Girl Lead, etc.). So yeah, with the OB-6 I just have to organize them better and write them down. Luckily, for this patch set, I had patches 250 - 299 all ready to go. I highly recommend purchasing this patch bank to other users. Thanks again!

    [have OB-Xa 6-voice here]
    This synth sounds of a convergence of 3rd-wave DSI and (some) OB-8.
    I don't think it compares so well to any of the other OBs; too little modulation to be a Matrix, and not dirty and bombastic enough to be OB-X(a). But a great alternative to dying/limited OB-8s and other new DSI, nonetheless.
    It certainly has those 'warm mids' and _some_ of those airy highs of older OBs (perhaps YT algo is mangling it here)...but then so does a matix1000 for -under- half the price [EDIT - holy crap these little things have skyrocketed...I got one for $150 in 1997].

    What effect do you have on this?

    • @j3po784
      @j3po784  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      None. It's all the internal FX of the synth and the sound of the OB-6. There's some slight compression/limiting on the upload to TH-cam, but there are no external FX.
