i work retail, specifically tech and gaming. the most prominent issues are: -sexism (people straight up will ignore me and go to a different FLOOR just to be directed back to me because i indeed know what i’m talking about) -being hit on by old men (despite telling them i’m 17) -having to be nice to the old men because they buy stuff and my sales don’t reach the minimum if i refuse service -people being angry at me for shit i have nothing to do with, like their kid telling them that we sell vbucks or that their car had an issue in the way and somehow that’s my fault never work in service if you can avoid it. that’s just a fraction of what happens in a day 😀😀😀

I am a barista and we had a girl come through singing her order for Tik Tok. I straight up told her how rude and inconvenient she was being, especially since it was rush hour and we were understaffed. The girl who tried to take her order couldn’t understand what she was saying and it backed up our line. So, if you want to do this, DO NOT. WE HATE IT AND YOU WILL MAKE OUR JOB HARDER.
Once this jerk was doing this tiktoc prank thingy and he got out of his car and yelled at my mom cause she was taking a "long time to order" and "was taking up tons of time". I don't remember his tiktoc but he said that "a karen was refusing to move up in line and was cussing out the workers" but thats literally what he did to my mom. It really made me mad cause my mom was ordering some food for my brothers surprise birthday. I really hope he gets slapped by one of the workers that he pranks. here’s my horror story: i was working as a barista in a cafe right when covid was starting to hit in NY and a guy comes in and demands his coffee and then goes “and i’ll also take one of these” and then REACHED HIS HAND INTO THE COOKIE JAR. I almost screamed, i was so shocked. I had to scold a grown man and be like “sir i’m going to ask that you NEVER do that again, for general hygiene and also we are in a PANDEMIC” and he looked at me like i was out of my mind. He did not tip me and I had to throw out all the cookies.

I work at a KFC restaurant and when I say people are so rude for absolutely no reason, I mean it. One time, I was working late at work and I was on drive thru headset and since there was no one available to help me, I was managing the drive thru on my own. This meant there was a bit of delay with food as I was literally taking an order, making the drinks, taking payment, running to prepare the food and then handing it to the customer. We had a wait on chicken so we were all waiting on food and parking up cars. Short staff, busy night. Some guy came up to the drive thru window and proceeded to YELL at me for waiting 10 minutes in a drive thru. He refused to pay for his food so I tried to reason with him by giving him a free drink or even free food, to which he took. After another 5 minutes, I finally handed this guy his food and before he had even looked in the bag, he immediately complained that it was cold. Before I could say anything, he started to throw food at me (chicken on the fucking BONE) and drive off with the drive thru in a state and even more angry people behind him for the amount of time this guy took up arguing for no reason. I understand his frustration, but when he can see a 17 year old girl loosing her fucking mind all alone in a drive thru, you did not need to throw food in my face. Especially since that shit HURT.
you could have sued him (in a perfect world where everyone has the time and money for a lawsuit lol) for assault for sure, that's literally insane especially if it actually hurt and he was throwing it hard

People read me their account numbers over the phone for my job, and if they say “fourteen” instead of “one four” I cannot remember a thing. If someone sang it I would simple hang up.
They would like sing their whole order and I’d let them sit in it for a second so that they think about what they really just did, and then I would look them in the eye and say “what?” and then just make them repeat it but actually speaking.

His district manager also threatened to write him up because he closed 10 minutes early so he could take our son to the ER. All she said was “kids get sick all the time. Get your priorities right.” So fast food employees get shit from customers and from higher ups because they’re not seen as people just disposables.

Hey Kurtis, current Starbucks Barista here. I know this video is a few months old and you will probably not read this, but I wanted to say your thanks is much appreciated. I'm currently situated in a Starbucks mall store in one of the busiest malls in Ontario (Maybe you've heard of the Toronto Premium Outlets that is laughably not in Toronto). We've been in the redzone and wearing masks for hours at a time, situated behind Plexi-glass straining to hear people's orders, needing to constantly wash our hands and sanitize everything, all the while having just a few people try to serve dozens of items in a short time span. There was a lot of appreciation at the beginning but people seem to be fed up recently. Our bathrooms are closed down and we can't have people stay inside to sit and need to direct them outside when they get their order. We're allowed a maximum of 10 non-employees inside and have had to line people up outside in the cold that has been present over the last week. We're busier than ever while the next two regions over go into lockdown. I've had to temporarily stop my job as a hockey ref because I can't risk working with kids this year while also serving people their coffee. My income is way down because of it, and I've had to take some time off of university. Despite all of that I still wake up every day, put a smile on my face, put a mask on my smile and head into work so I can give people a cup of coffee. It's thankless most of the time but it feels good knowing I can be there to help ground people in comfort when the world has been so fucked up recently. I got into the coffee world when depression hit me like a truck. It was the one thing each day that was my constant, and what gave me the energy to get out of bed. So when I say this, I mean it. Thank you for being appreciative. It's the few people like you that keep me going, knowing that someone I serve each day might be needing that same cup of coffee that keeps them hanging on each and every single day. And I know the chances of you ever reading this comment are slim to none, but it felt good to get all of this off of my chest and on the off chance you are reading this, please know we appreciate you too. Considering you're Canadian, If I ever see you in the Starbucks I work at in Ontario, your drink will be on me. EDIT: got a crap ton of replies. Thank you all so much for your kind words. I totaly relate. I was working at a Tim Horton, after quitting (partly because Covid) my job as a line cook in a restaurant. I could only handle staying for 2 mounts. It was terrible how people need to put their frustation on us, working minimum wage.

-sexism (people straight up will ignore me and go to a different FLOOR just to be directed back to me because i indeed know what i’m talking about)
-being hit on by old men (despite telling them i’m 17)
-having to be nice to the old men because they buy stuff and my sales don’t reach the minimum if i refuse service
-people being angry at me for shit i have nothing to do with, like their kid telling them that we sell vbucks or that their car had an issue in the way and somehow that’s my fault
never work in service if you can avoid it. that’s just a fraction of what happens in a day 😀😀😀

I straight up told her how rude and inconvenient she was being, especially since it was rush hour and we were understaffed. here’s my horror story: i was working as a barista in a cafe right when covid was starting to hit in NY and a guy comes in and demands his coffee and then goes “and i’ll also take one of these” and then REACHED HIS HAND INTO THE COOKIE JAR. I almost screamed, i was so shocked. I had to scold a grown man and be like “sir i’m going to ask that you NEVER do that again, for general hygiene and also we are in a PANDEMIC” and he looked at me like i was out of my mind. He did not tip me and I had to throw out all the cookies.

I work at a KFC restaurant and when I say people are so rude for absolutely no reason, I mean it.
One time, I was working late at work and I was on drive thru headset and since there was no one available to help me, I was managing the drive thru on my own. This meant there was a bit of delay with food as I was literally taking an order, making the drinks, taking payment, running to prepare the food and then handing it to the customer.
We had a wait on chicken so we were all waiting on food and parking up cars. Short staff, busy night. Some guy came up to the drive thru window and proceeded to YELL at me for waiting 10 minutes in a drive thru. He refused to pay for his food so I tried to reason with him by giving him a free drink or even free food, to which he took.
After another 5 minutes, I finally handed this guy his food and before he had even looked in the bag, he immediately complained that it was cold.
Before I could say anything, he started to throw food at me (chicken on the fucking BONE) and drive off with the drive thru in a state and even more angry people behind him for the amount of time this guy took up arguing for no reason.
I understand his frustration, but when he can see a 17 year old girl loosing her fucking mind all alone in a drive thru, you did not need to throw food in my face. Especially since that shit HURT.

I'm a nurse. I'm also a person who can't leave my job. When a person makes that situation uncomfortable it makes me very angry because they know I can't leave my patients.

Hey Kurtis, current Starbucks Barista here. I know this video is a few months old and you will probably not read this, but I wanted to say your thanks is much appreciated. I'm currently situated in a Starbucks mall store in one of the busiest malls in Ontario (Maybe you've heard of the Toronto Premium Outlets that is laughably not in Toronto). We've been in the redzone and wearing masks for hours at a time, situated behind Plexi-glass straining to hear people's orders, needing to constantly wash our hands and sanitize everything, all the while having just a few people try to serve dozens of items in a short time span.
There was a lot of appreciation at the beginning but people seem to be fed up recently. Our bathrooms are closed down and we can't have people stay inside to sit and need to direct them outside when they get their order. We're allowed a maximum of 10 non-employees inside and have had to line people up outside in the cold that has been present over the last week. We're busier than ever while the next two regions over go into lockdown.
I've had to temporarily stop my job as a hockey ref because I can't risk working with kids this year while also serving people their coffee. My income is way down because of it, and I've had to take some time off of university.
Despite all of that I still wake up every day, put a smile on my face, put a mask on my smile and head into work so I can give people a cup of coffee. It's thankless most of the time but it feels good knowing I can be there to help ground people in comfort when the world has been so fucked up recently.
I got into the coffee world when depression hit me like a truck. It was the one thing each day that was my constant, and what gave me the energy to get out of bed. So when I say this, I mean it. Thank you for being appreciative. It's the few people like you that keep me going, knowing that someone I serve each day might be needing that same cup of coffee that keeps them hanging on each and every single day.
And I know the chances of you ever reading this comment are slim to none, but it felt good to get all of this off of my chest and on the off chance you are reading this, please know we appreciate you too. Considering you're Canadian, If I ever see you in the Starbucks I work at in Ontario, your drink will be on me.

I totaly relate. I was working at a Tim Horton, after quitting (partly because Covid) my job as a line cook in a restaurant. I could only handle staying for 2 mounts. It was terrible how people need to put their frustation on us, working minimum wage.
