    The vita is an amazing console, fully modular which means it's easy to replace any broken part, such a shame that sony abandoned it

    • @FantasticQuack
      @FantasticQuack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Agreed! Separation of the main board from the left/right duaghter boards really does make most issues a fairly inexpensive fix. Not to mention the ZIF connections in lieu of direct soldering for many components.

      @TAMPATLBLACK the only thing you have to redo is set the date and time again from removing the battery. Everything else stays the same. Mine was hacked before I replaced the screen and it's all good.

    What a great, informative video. This may give me enough confidence to replace my Vita's screen myself. I just ruined the screen of my 3 day old Vita, by blasting it with hot air from a blow-dryer, trying to heat up a screen protector's adhesive to hopefully realign it. Not the smartest decision.
    I ended up with faint, vertical lines all over the screen, which are probably from the adhesive Sony used between the digitizer and OLED panel. The Vita's infamous for these mura effects, but I actually managed to make them worse with my great plan.

    • @FantasticQuack
      @FantasticQuack  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Oh no! Luckily the new screens aren't too expensive so you can save it yet, just be careful with those tiny connectors and good luck!

    Great teardown video, really helped a lot. The only difference I ran into is that the screws holding down my network card didn't have a phillips head; they were just smooth dimples basically. I had to take a Dremel and cut notches to use a flat head. Hopefully that helps anyone else who ran into this issue.

    • @FantasticQuack
      @FantasticQuack  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like someone tried to take it out before and completely stripped the screw heads? I've run into that before and did the exact same thing as you. Immaculate. I just put a replacement screen and back shell on my second hand scuffed psvita. The right bumper bracket (on the inside) was very tight to put on. And the top cartridge bar doesn't sit quite flush after reassembly. I suspect that the chinesium replication wasn't quite perfect on my digitiser.
    Now to super carefully transfer the stickers and install some horrible screen protectors to keep it ever so slightly safer than the previous owner had ;)

    You know I was thinking of doing a screen replacement on my 1000 model because it has a lot of scratches. But after seeing how much you have to take off to do so, I think I'll just learn to live with the scratches. 😬

    • @FantasticQuack
      @FantasticQuack  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      One method to try is to film yourself taking it apart. Then you can refer back to that footage during reassembly to make sure you don't miss anything. Great thing about the Vita is that all screws (with the exception of the few pink ones at the end) are the same, so you don't need to keep track of multiple piles of screws like you would working on a Nintendo unit.

      Are the shell halves fastened together tightly with no gaps? The speakers rely on pressure to make connection with the boards. If things otherwise seem normal, I would bend the speaker pins slightly upward so they make a higher pressure contact with the pads on the board. • @FantasticQuack
      @FantasticQuack  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just need to test a few different sized screw drivers until you find the one that fits snug in the slot. Apply downward pressure when turning to avoid having the driver skip out and strip it. If you do strip the screw there are a couple techniques such as using the vampliers or dremel tool to cut a slot in the screw head and using a larger flat head to engage with the slot you just cut and turning the screw out. I have footage of the latter method succeeding (from a different unit where the screws were already completely stripped) but so far haven't made a video on this specific question.

    • @FantasticQuack
      @FantasticQuack  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can soak the sticker with alcohol on a q-tip to soften the adhesive for a couple min. Then carefully peel up on end with a razor blade and/or tweezers. Work slow to make sure the adhesive is staying on the label and not ripping off/stuck to handheld. Once it's lifted off just stick it down again to the new screen. Any wetness from the alcohol will evaporate

    • @ryantexada9269

      Orange tint around the screen is pretty common. The general answer is that the oled is suffering from heat damage, most likely from being in a hot car at some point in its lifetime. it's irreversible unless you replace the screen, but in most cases you can't notice it with the screen on. My oled vita has the same issue, but its around pretty much the whole perimeter of the screen.
