I'm not the biggest fan of comic book movies or superheroes or whatever. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is one of my least favorite movies of all time. Also I didn't like V for Vendetta. You know what, I'm just gonna stop watching the video, since there's no way I'm going to enjoy anything on the list. Unless you somehow have the Nolan Batmans on there. Or Spiderman 1 with Tobey Maguire. Or Iron Man 1. That's about it. Actually, maybe I'll come back and finish watching later.
I bought Into the Spider Verse on 4K without even having a TV or player because I knew one day I’d have the ability to get the most out of it. Now that I do I am so glad I did. It’s absolutely mind blowing
I've dove into 4k over the last year and Black Friday sales cuz they're as good as blurays and come with blurays anyway. Figured it's a investment within a investment. Once I get the tv/player, gotta have options to watch on it.
The first Spider-Man in 4K was transformative to me. So much detail, I always thought it was the worst looking one of the three, kinda flat and TV like, but seeing it in 4K with that pristine, natural grain, it's for sure my favorite now. On second watch I kept pausing on each new scene to admire the background detail. The clothes, the hair, everything just looks really sharp and detailed. The motion is also really smooth. I think it has something to do with the grain dancing around, but to me it almost looked like it was shot at a higher frame rate. Kinda fun, not at all distracting.
Who really wants to pay 'rent' on their movie collection? I.e. monthly or yearly subscription service... if you don't pay it, you can't access MOVIES THAT YOU """PURCHASED""".
I watched Dark Knight the night before going to see The Batman as Dark Knight is not just my favorite Batman movie, or superhero movie, but favorite movie and I heard The Batman gave it a run for it's money. I was unaware of the IMAX scenes and it was definitely a nice surprise, they look AMAZING, even compared to the rest of the content. As for The Batman, I look forward to it in 4K soon as well, but Dark Knight is still my #1
I really enjoyed watching Ang Lee's Hulk on 4k recently. It's probably my favorite superhero movie, the art panel editing and playful transitions are amazingly conceived. I genuinely think that movie has more creativity in its title scene than most MCU movies have in their entire runtime.
I totally agree The Dark KNIGHT has got to be one of the best transfers I have ever seen and the audio is top notch when I purchased the trilogy I it’s was like seeing all three movies for the first time I’m totally blown away by it nice job on the reviews thank you For an informative video.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏

Nobody calls Manga comics because they're literally in it's own lane. So Alita Battle Angel is not a comic movie and it can't be on this list for those reasons.

I thought the infinity war 4K was really good, I still prefer MCU movies on 4K disk. Even with the imax sequences Disney plus just drains all of color from films on Disney plus on 4K.
I thought it was just my television doing it, especially considering it's not an Oled(Samsung NU7100). Most physical material looks really good on it, but DisneyPlus movies look washed out at times.
Great list! A duo that would hit my list in this category would be the Burton Batman films. Especially when the atmos audio on 89’. It was completely remixed. Huge upgrade 📀

If I could make a couple of suggestions… I’d like to know the aspect ratio of the films as part of your reviews as I have a scope screen. Also, in this review you really didn’t mention what the audio format was for all of the films, which is very useful (Dolby Atmos, etc). Keep up the great work!
Jeff another great video, really looking forward to the animated 4k video I’d actually been thinking about if there were any good ones besides spider verse and some of the most recent disney movies like from soul to Encanto (I believe they’re all rendered in 4K)
@@vb8428 Whether the movie is any good is not the point of this list. The point of this list is to rank comic book films based on the quality of their 4K UHD releases. Watchmen, which was shot in the mid-2000s with many scenes relying on greenscreen and CGI, did not make the transition from HD to 4K gracefully, surprising nobody.

Surprised to see that Logan didn't make the list. Granted its an older 4K disc now, but it was beautifully shot and most of the CG effects hold up so well. Otherwise a solid list, agree with Joker taking the top spot.
The Spider-Man and amazing Spider-Man movies have the best audio tracks I’ve ever heard in a film. Particularly Spider-Man 3, and the ASM2 with electro scenes. The lord of the rings trilogy is the next closest thing I brother.

I’m surprised the Burton-Schumacher Batman movies didn’t make this list. There were a lot of edits done on at least Batman 89, but they were all demo material, especially Batman & Robin. Also, in preparation for your animated list, Heavy Metal is coming to 4K very soon. Guaranteed that will be a stunner.
I wish both Warner Brothers (Discovery)-DC and Disney-Marvel better marketed their 4K discs to the comic book communities. For example they can provide displays for local comic book shops, demonstration booths at conventions, and provide free digital comic book codes within the 4K packaging. It seems like by the time the 4K discs are released, the comic book publishers are already moving on to new projects and they think of 4K discs as just after thoughts.
As much as I hate the first squad movie and love the Gunn one I really want to see Ayers vision of the first movie, from what he’s said it sounds like it would have been ALOT better

Can you review some criterion movies like Stalker and Paris Texas because the way you explain the dvds and bluerays are so great! I also think that black and white movies look the best on 4k. So slick and clean look.
While I do think The Dark Knight looks great on 4K. I do like seeing Batman Begins on 4k since it is the first release that doesn't feel so compressed. WB put just the movie on the disc and to me, it's noticeable. Fully agree with you regarding MCU on 4K. Guardians 2 looks great but for whatever reason Disney doesn't care. Into the Spiderverse is a great 4k release but Sony as a company rarely releases duds in HD or UHD
It's such a shame Warner have consistently screwed with filmmakers visions, but as you say, to their credit they do put the effort in to make great looking films - not overpriced greenscreen garbage.
Good call on all of your picks but Into The Spider-Verse and Suicide Squad just blew me away when I first watched them in 4k. I must have watched Suicide Squad at least a dozen times because it's just so beautiful and a fun movie. I know they messed with things when they transferred Batman 1989 to 4k but I think it looks stunning so that would be in my top ten.
Well thoughtout list. I find it fascinating hearing about the upscales, with quality varying from reference to no better than bluray. Where reviews are esp important.
If you think ITSV was visually impressive, I can't wait for your mind to be blown by the sequel. I didn't think they could top the first, but somehow they did
in terms of Watchmen's 4K disc, avoid the US WB disc & buy the international Paramount disc. Paramount remastered the movie to have Dolby Vision HDR support. Sadly, neither version has a Dolby Atmos audio track but it's a Lossless Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio track, which is better than the normal Blu-Ray
The only issue I have noticed is if you’re watching the Spider-Man 3 4K on PS5, the audio glitches out at the final battle scene when Harry shows up. However if you change the audio to the 5.1, the sound is fine.
I kept reading about that too and it put me off buying them on 4K UHD. So you're saying to turn off Dolby Atmos and choose DTS-HD 5.1 to fix it? That's a bummer, but I'm not surprised. Too many 4K UHDs have some sort of disc issue.
X-Men: Apocalypse is a stunning movie on 4K as well, I know most don’t like it but I really do and it having a great 4K makes me enjoy it even more on rewatches

That's an excellent list Jeff! I'm pretty much in total agreement with it . Surprised that you rate Superman The Movie. I was really disappointed with it. That saddens me as its a movie that means a lot to me. I'm really looking forward to The Batman 4k. The cinematography in the movie was so good that should mean a really excellent disc. No Way Home should be good too as Sony will be doing it. Its always disappointing that Marvel/Disney have such little regard for physical media. Love this channel. Something I'm noticing from Amazon. Of the 4k disks they sell many are advertised with slip covers. The last 4 I have ordered have come without the advertised slip cover. It's not the end of the world but I do like the protection they offer. Have you noticed this? Is it a common trend or just my bad luck? As always, thanks for what you do.
Nobody guarantees slipcovers. They’re a first print run type of thing. The box art usually shows them but it’s like a dust jacket on a book - first print run only and limited. If the movie is popular and is more than a month old, I’d assume you aren’t getting a slipcover.
Can you do a comparison of "An American Werewolf in London" Turbine 4K Blu Ray vs Arrow 4k Blu Ray please? I found the Turbine 4K Blu Ray to be too dark and was hoping that the Arrow 4k Blu Ray had brighter contrast. No one else has done this on any youtube channel so you would be the first and definitely the best. Thanks. Keep up the great work. Love the channel.
I’m always torn with the MCU between the less compressed image on 4K disc vs the expanded aspect ratio on D+. Really wish they’d just put the full aspect ratio on disc so we could have the best of both.
There always has to be another version of the movie that they want you to buy in the future. If they give you the perfect version, then you buy it once and they never get any money from you again.
Less compressed?? The image quality of the disc blows the streaming versions of the MCU movies on Disney + away! I don't understand the thinking that "more image = better quality" because it doesn't. The Disney stream is locked probably around 30 mbps while the disc is probably going 50-60 mbps of data. The larger image has no affect on picture quality. Plus, the majority of the films were meant for the scope aspect ratio aka the big black bars. Only 2 MCU films that should be in the IMAX ratio are Infinity War and Endgame. The rest should stay in their scope aspect ratio.
@@quark4911: Yes, the film was made open matte, meaning the camera was wide open. But aspect ratio doesn’t make any difference in image quality. It’s all about the camera being used. If there was a true IMAX camera being used, then yes there would be a difference in image quality. But from what I can tell, the same camera was used for all of it, meaning image quality is the same throughout. It’s like Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Although the movie on disc has the black bars throughout, you can still tell the image difference between the 35mm film and the IMAX sequence that was filmed even though that sequence is still in scope ratio (black bars).
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 looks great on 4K, however, the first Amazing Spider-Man looks too dark during some of the daytime scenes. The night scenes look great, but during the day, everything is dark and the colors are washed out. It reminds me a bit of HEAT on 4K, just not as bad.
Spiderman 2 was and is the best 4k spidey disc to date..Top notch demo worthy in all respects..we will see if new Spiderman that was in theaters recently is just ad good on 4k disc

I really love the "overcast" shots in HDR on 4K. They are relatively low-light, but so sharp and vibrant. Joker seemed to have a lot of that.

Watchmen is my favorite of his 4ks, it was a little surprising to see those other 2 subpar Snyder films on this list instead.

The Batman had weaker story, dialogue and acting. And it'll be too dark with HDR to fully enjoy and there aren't any IMAX scenes.

I recently just got the Tim Burton Joel Schumacher batman movies on 4K and Batman 1989 is a definite improvement from the old Blu-ray disc.

Just disappointing that the dark knight trilogy on 4k had their black levels raised. Could’ve been top tier on OLED
Good call on all of your picks but Into The Spider-Verse and Suicide Squad just blew me away when I first watched them in 4k. I must have watched Suicide Squad at least a dozen times because it's just so beautiful and a fun movie. I know they messed with things when they transferred Batman 1989 to 4k but I think it looks stunning so that would be in my top ten.
Well thoughtout list. I find it fascinating hearing about the upscales, with quality varying from reference to no better than bluray. Where reviews are esp important.
Howd you miss the Avengers? Its my fav Disney 4k movie and has the Full IMAX screen thru out the entire film.

in terms of Watchmen's 4K disc, avoid the US WB disc & buy the international Paramount disc. Paramount remastered the movie to have Dolby Vision HDR support. Sadly, neither version has a Dolby Atmos audio track but it's a Lossless Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio track, which is better than the normal Blu-Ray

Ordered my OG SPIDERMAN Trilogy in 4k from Ebay
The only issue I have noticed is if you’re watching the Spider-Man 3 4K on PS5, the audio glitches out at the final battle scene when Harry shows up. However if you change the audio to the 5.1, the sound is fine.
I kept reading about that too and it put me off buying them on 4K UHD. So you're saying to turn off Dolby Atmos and choose DTS-HD 5.1 to fix it? That's a bummer, but I'm not surprised. Too many 4K UHDs have some sort of disc issue.
@@zanfear Yeah but I heard if you play the movie on Xbox, the sound is fine. So I think it’s a issue with the PS5 and not the disc itself.

X-Men: Apocalypse is a stunning movie on 4K as well, I know most don’t like it but I really do and it having a great 4K makes me enjoy it even more on rewatches

Nice vid bro. Would definitely be down for a Watchmen 4k review. Just be aware that WB released two 4k discs. The latest being in 2019. Thats the one i'd recommend.

That's an excellent list Jeff! I'm pretty much in total agreement with it . Surprised that you rate Superman The Movie. I was really disappointed with it. That saddens me as its a movie that means a lot to me. I'm really looking forward to The Batman 4k. The cinematography in the movie was so good that should mean a really excellent disc. No Way Home should be good too as Sony will be doing it. Its always disappointing that Marvel/Disney have such little regard for physical media. I suspect that will never change since Disney + arrived. Great video Jeff. Thanks for doing it.
Love this channel. Something I'm noticing from Amazon. Of the 4k disks they sell many are advertised with slip covers. The last 4 I have ordered have come without the advertised slip cover. It's not the end of the world but I do like the protection they offer. Have you noticed this? Is it a common trend or just my bad luck? As always, thanks for what you do.
Nobody guarantees slipcovers. They’re a first print run type of thing. The box art usually shows them but it’s like a dust jacket on a book - first print run only and limited. If the movie is popular and is more than a month old, I’d assume you aren’t getting a slipcover.
Try buying them on ebay, even used. That way, you see a photo of the actual thing you're paying money for. Used is much cheaper, too.
Can you do a comparison of "An American Werewolf in London" Turbine 4K Blu Ray vs Arrow 4k Blu Ray please? I found the Turbine 4K Blu Ray to be too dark and was hoping that the Arrow 4k Blu Ray had brighter contrast. No one else has done this on any youtube channel so you would be the first and definitely the best. Thanks. Keep up the great work. Love the channel.

I’m always torn with the MCU between the less compressed image on 4K disc vs the expanded aspect ratio on D+. Really wish they’d just put the full aspect ratio on disc so we could have the best of both.
There always has to be another version of the movie that they want you to buy in the future. If they give you the perfect version, then you buy it once and they never get any money from you again.
Less compressed?? The image quality of the disc blows the streaming versions of the MCU movies on Disney + away! I don't understand the thinking that "more image = better quality" because it doesn't. The Disney stream is locked probably around 30 mbps while the disc is probably going 50-60 mbps of data. The larger image has no affect on picture quality. Plus, the majority of the films were meant for the scope aspect ratio aka the big black bars. Only 2 MCU films that should be in the IMAX ratio are Infinity War and Endgame. The rest should stay in their scope aspect ratio.

@@quark4911: Yes, the film was made open matte, meaning the camera was wide open. But aspect ratio doesn’t make any difference in image quality. It’s all about the camera being used. If there was a true IMAX camera being used, then yes there would be a difference in image quality. But from what I can tell, the same camera was used for all of it, meaning image quality is the same throughout.
It’s like Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Although the movie on disc has the black bars throughout, you can still tell the image difference between the 35mm film and the IMAX sequence that was filmed even though that sequence is still in scope ratio (black bars).

There are ZERO Imax shots in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 looks great on 4K, however, the first Amazing Spider-Man looks too dark during some of the daytime scenes. The night scenes look great, but during the day, everything is dark and the colors are washed out. It reminds me a bit of HEAT on 4K, just not as bad.
Spiderman 2 was and is the best 4k spidey disc to date..Top notch demo worthy in all respects..we will see if new Spiderman that was in theaters recently is just ad good on 4k disc
