The Suspiria 4K release is epic. I have watched that movie at least 40 times on various formats over the years, and I had my mind blown when I noticed things that I had NEVER noticed or seen before during all those other times watching the film. In one scene in particular my jaw literally dropped and I think I uttered something like "ho...ly shiiiiit" because I saw something for the very first time that made the scene much more shocking and clarifying. At any rate, no horror film/4K collector worth their salt should be without the Synapse 4K release. Nice list Jeff.

I'm new to this platform and your channel. Recently I purchased the Panasonic UB9000 4K UHD Blu-ray Player, a Samsung QN800A 75" QLED Monitor, and a LG SN11RG Soundbar system. I did quite a bit of research before forking over several thousand dollars. Just yesterday I watched for the first time the 4K Blu-ray version of The Shining. Seeing this (and hearing it) totally reassured my decision that this home theater purchase was 100% worth it.
Great list Jeff! I have most of the ones on your list. I was disappointed that the excellent directors cut of Doctor Sleep wasn’t included on the 4K disc. I had to get the iTunes version to get the directors cut.🤨

Just watched “The Thing” on 4K for the first time, and loved it! Best it’s ever looked (I’m still keeping my Scream Factory Blu-ray for the bonus features though)!
Yeah it’s a great transfer. I love the Scream Factory artwork & put that in a 4K case. The Scream bonus materials merged with the 4K release makes a classic package.
One of my favorite pick ups when starting my collection was a Kubrick blu ray triple feature with 2001, A Clockwork Orange, and The Shining. I love that set, but maybe it’s time for 4K Shining!
If you feel like a double dip, 2001, The Shining, and FMJ are available in a box set on 4K. The Shining and FMJ are a bit controversial, but 2001 is one of the best 4Ks ever.
"Suspiria" is an overwhelming experience in sight and sound, and the new 4k is astounding. For the first time I was able to see the demon in the shadows behind the girl in the attic/razor wire sequence...barely visible as a shadow in the shadows, but there...and then the eyes become faintly luminous. Great stuff. The 4.0 mix is the one I usually listen to; there are places the sound seems to spin around the room. This is my go-to disc (along with "The Ten Commandments", what a combo) to show off 4k and HDR.
Great list! A few I would put in my personal list: Daughters of Darkness (Blue Underground), Dawn of the Dead (Second Sight), Demons I & II (Synapse), Alien (20th Century Fox), and literally every Vinegar Syndrome 4K release, honestly. And related to Jaws, my biggest surprise favorite 4K release is The Shallows (Sony). If you've never seen it, The Shallows is the best shark movie since Jaws and the transfer is so good I felt like I could reach through my screen and be there with Blake Lively. Glad you mentioned that Suspiria 4K, it's absolutely gorgeous and takes full advantage of the format with the colors and imagery, making an already great movie looking the best it's ever looked, Synapse also put out that Demons 1 and 2 4K set which was also great, may consider getting the Phenomena set when that comes out. I hope you watch and review Second Sight conversion of Dawn of the Dead 1978 4k. It's an absolutely beast in picture and sound quality. Im pretty sure you include that movie in your top 10 horror movie list.

I didn’t even know there was a new scan of Halloween (or that Inglorious Basterds was out which I learned from another one of your videos). I’ve been out of the loop! Subbed.
In 1975 I was too young to see Jaws but fast forward to 1980 my Dad worked for various audio companies that included Pioneer and DiscoVision inc. and I was able to sneak a peek at a demo Laser Discs of various films like Alien, Smokey & the Bandit, Bootlegs of Star Wars, and JAWS. JAWS by far was one of the most influential films I ever saw. The writing, the character arch’s, the musical score, and the story telling were unmatched, so glad to get my hands on a 4K transfer. How lucky we are to enjoy these films like this today. Love these top 10 genera lists you got going here…but yeah Jaws has always been a top favorite of mine too.
Hey man! Found your videos a couple of weeks ago and love them. I live in Australia, and we get some 4K releases either months/years later than the US, or some not at all. And so because of that, I’m gonna use your channel as a way to gauge which releases are worth importing on 4K, because they’re region free baby! It’s just expensive as shit to import
I would replace doctor sleep with midsommar. Doctor sleep looks good but i highly disagree it’s overall a better looking disk than the shining. Plus the directors cut isn’t even on the 4K which sucks. Really hoping they do the exorcist this year
The Universal Icons of Horror set is GREAT. I've watched about half the movies on Blu-ray (don't have a 4K player yet) man the transfers for Dracula and Frankenstein look GREAT. The Thing is also amazing seeing it for the first time.
Suspiria looks absolutely wild. This isn’t in 4K, but I’d suggest checking out The Last Matinee. Absolutely awesome horror film. As always, my most desired 4K titles: 1.) Armageddon 2.) Hard Boiled 3.) There Will Be Blood 4.) Super Mario Bros
I've got a couple of these and have to agree! Jaws and Suspiria are simply fantastic, and must-haves on 4K I think. If I had to add a movie to your list, it'd be the Dawn of the Dead 4K from Second Sight. I really want that Zombi 4K from Blue Underground, but it's pretty pricey now. I mean, so are Suspiria and Dawn of the Dead now, the last I checked, but I managed to get both of those in a nifty sale.
I love Argento's Suspiria but I don't own a 4k copy yet, I definitely need to get on that. I'd heard it looked great but considering how great this video talked it up to be I'm definitely prioritising it for one of my next few pick-ups.
I remember when zombie came to the theater in around 79 it was given an X rating. I finally saw it on VHS in the early 90s and didn't think to much about it. Bought the DVD in mid 2000s and fell in love with that it became one my top ten zombie films.

Worth mentioning that the Arrow Video Blu-ray of The Thing (which is also included in the steelbook version from Scream Factory) is much closer in quality to the 4K than the normal Scream Factory Blu-ray.
Some great movies, I'm with you I love horror most myself as well! Just bought a 77 C2 and a panasonic 4k HD ultra bluray player. I have lots if dvds and blurays and now I'm starting to collect 4k movies and your recommendations are excellent! Benicio Del toros Cabinet of Curiosities on Netflix is excellent, sure hope there's more!
Totally agree on all of these discs. Especially Suspiria and Doctor Sleep, which doesn’t have anywhere near the size of audience it should have. Great list! I’d also add Invasion of the Body Snatchers 4K from Kino, the imported Dawn of the Dead ‘78 4K, and Alien 4K as more honorable mentions.
I need to pick up tremors, though I do have anxiety that I won't get the full slipcase packaging with that sweet poster. I also just like the solid feel of those slip cases. Besides that, glad to know I have most of these already! But it's always good to check for a possible goodie I missed.
SO glad you mentioned The Thing, bc I have the Shout Factory BR and ended up getting the 4k also, and gotta say I really enjoy the look of it on 4k vs regular BR (totally agree about the snow aspect of it also)
I can’t overstate how amazeballs the Icons of Horror 4K and Hitchcock sets are. The VHS cover of Zombi used to scare the hell out of me as a kid. That was reason #1 why I got it LOL! Plus… I mean, it’s Fulci!!!
I’ve had Suspiria recommended to me as well on the 4k Blu-ray subreddit. It must be good if so many have Suspiria as one of the best horror movies ever made. Is the 4k Blu-ray in HDR? I have a 65” LG C2 OLED. HDR on this beast is insane. As for example, in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan during the battle between the Enterprise and the Reliant in the Mutara nebula, the lightning flashes in the Mutara nebula are so bright running in Dolby Vision, they’re absolutely blinding. I had to flinch away from a screen that was 10 feet away.
Wow right off the top I am shocked the Universal Collection didn't make it in. Overall great collection you've gathered here. I have about half and have been on the fence about the rest for awhile. Well except Misery I just haven't picked that up. Suspiria shocked me, I'm still torn on the film itself but that is a beautiful slipcover and it is a classic. Maybe if I commit in 4k I'll finally be able to make a decision. Another great video!

Is the Universal Icons of Horror set (4 movies) on 4K a big enough jump in quality over The Essential Collection set (8 movies) on Blu Ray to justify the purchase of the 4K set?
I have the blu ray set and have seen dracula in 4k. IMO, the quality isn't good enough with the 4k to justify the output, especially for HALF the movies that are in the Essential Collection. Just one man's opinion though.
Plan on picking up Suspiria soon, so glad I never picked up the normal blu-ray before upgrading my collection to 4k! I have yet to see the movie still, so I can't wait to be blown away!

The first time I saw "Jaws" was a showing at my high school auditorium, When the guy's head came out of the hole in the boat I just about broke the seat I was in I jumped back so hard!! I have the 30th anniversary DVD version....perhaps I should think about getting the upgrade.
I'm not a horror guy but I fully support your comments about Suspiria. That movie is terrific - and I haven't even watched my 4K copy yet. You definitely don't have to be a horror enthusiast to enjoy it. 👍
Out of my UHD collection, my fav "horror" movies are The Witch, The Shining, Tremors, Bram Stoker's Dracula, American Psycho, Doctor Sleep, Midsommar, Christine, Evil Dead 1 & 2 and Mother! - Jaws too, if we're counting that. I'm just picking by movies I enjoy. I don't really like the stuff Blue Underground puts out, but Zombie was a pretty damn nice UHD.
This was actually a great list. Here's my only issue. We bought Doctor Sleep on blu ray because we wanted the Director's Cut. WB really upset us not making that version available on 4K. They also did this with the first Suicide Squad 4K. Like my wife said that it's not right for studios to double dip for those of us who continue to support physical media. Again great list,& YES JAWS is just one of the perfect 4K movies!!!
@@EI_West1984 SERIOUSLY we'll be so pissed if it's just the US. The blu ray visuals are great with the 4K upscale, & the Atmos soundtrack is excellent. But I can't help but wonder why during this damn pandemic that studios, & streaming services are taking advantage of us.
If you think a modern 4K transfer may look better then it appeared back in 1960 in a theater you don't know how they looked back then. They look so much better now after restoration.
I was pretty disappointed that Alien 1 wasn't on here, but this is still a great list!! I know that Alien was on your Sci Fi cuz you consider it more of a Sci Fi film than horror, but I'm sorry, it's a horror film, and it's one of those things where i'll fight you in the streets for it. Okay, that was a little extreme, but you get the idea.
Very good list. An honorable mention from me would have been Second Sights 4K restoration of Dawn of the Dead. They did one hell of a job as that was always a very messy/fuzzy looking film and they made it look spectacular

I was disappointed by that as well. Is it definitely 4K on the iTunes Extras version?

I think DiabolikDVD had a recent restock. It was out of stock for a while and was going for crazy $ secondhand.
I hope Arrow Video or Blue Underground can do a 4k transfer of Inferno.

Worth mentioning that the Arrow Video Blu-ray of The Thing (which is also included in the steelbook version from Scream Factory) is much closer in quality to the 4K than the normal Scream Factory Blu-ray.

Arrow video’s 4k restorations of Dario argentos films are incredible especially Deep Red
Tremors is my number one 4k horror. Movie is just fun to watch. Why can't everyone package stuff like Tremors and Arrow they did such a nice job.
Some great movies, I'm with you I love horror most myself as well! Just bought a 77 C2 and a panasonic 4k HD ultra bluray player. I have lots if dvds and blurays and now I'm starting to collect 4k movies and your recommendations are excellent! Benicio Del toros Cabinet of Curiosities on Netflix is excellent, sure hope there's more!
Totally agree on all of these discs. Especially Suspiria and Doctor Sleep, which doesn’t have anywhere near the size of audience it should have. Great list! I’d also add Invasion of the Body Snatchers 4K from Kino, the imported Dawn of the Dead ‘78 4K, and Alien 4K as more honorable mentions.
I need to pick up tremors, though I do have anxiety that I won't get the full slipcase packaging with that sweet poster. I also just like the solid feel of those slip cases.
Besides that, glad to know I have most of these already! But it's always good to check for a possible goodie I missed.
Jaws is my favorite movie of all time as well.

SO glad you mentioned The Thing, bc I have the Shout Factory BR and ended up getting the 4k also, and gotta say I really enjoy the look of it on 4k vs regular BR (totally agree about the snow aspect of it also)
Suspiria killed me when I saw it in 4K. Took me awhile to pull the trigger because of the price, BUT well worth the price! Blew me away.
I saw Jaws on opening day in 1975 and it’s by far one of the best movies l’ve ever seen. Looks great in 4K too.👍🏻

I can’t overstate how amazeballs the Icons of Horror 4K and Hitchcock sets are.
The VHS cover of Zombi used to scare the hell out of me as a kid. That was reason #1 why I got it LOL! Plus… I mean, it’s Fulci!!!
Zombie is a great movie. It can be confusing for some collectors it has lots of different names like Zombie Flesh Eaters, Zombi and Zombie

Although I don’t consider it a horror film, I suppose some might call The Shallows horror. The picture quality of that films 4K release is STAGGERING.

I’ve had Suspiria recommended to me as well on the 4k Blu-ray subreddit. It must be good if so many have Suspiria as one of the best horror movies ever made. Is the 4k Blu-ray in HDR?
I have a 65” LG C2 OLED. HDR on this beast is insane. As for example, in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan during the battle between the Enterprise and the Reliant in the Mutara nebula, the lightning flashes in the Mutara nebula are so bright running in Dolby Vision, they’re absolutely blinding. I had to flinch away from a screen that was 10 feet away.

Wow right off the top I am shocked the Universal Collection didn't make it in. Overall great collection you've gathered here. I have about half and have been on the fence about the rest for awhile. Well except Misery I just haven't picked that up. Suspiria shocked me, I'm still torn on the film itself but that is a beautiful slipcover and it is a classic. Maybe if I commit in 4k I'll finally be able to make a decision. Another great video!

Is the Universal Icons of Horror set (4 movies) on 4K a big enough jump in quality over The Essential Collection set (8 movies) on Blu Ray to justify the purchase of the 4K set?
I have the blu ray set and have seen dracula in 4k. IMO, the quality isn't good enough with the 4k to justify the output, especially for HALF the movies that are in the Essential Collection. Just one man's opinion though.

I hear what you’re saying about Jaws, and I would say The Birds is a similar ‘character movie with monster thrown in’ kind of film.
Plan on picking up Suspiria soon, so glad I never picked up the normal blu-ray before upgrading my collection to 4k! I have yet to see the movie still, so I can't wait to be blown away!
Just saw the shining on 4k last week, forgot how good it was! Got the Limited edition Tremors 4k coming this week so looking forward to that as well.
My limited edition tremors is coming this week too. Unfortunately I paid $75 on Mercari.
@@dereckliebscher7538 Oh wow, you must have really wanted this for your collection! Just received my copy today, I was lucky and found a reasonably priced copy on eBay for £30 and apart from not being sealed it appears in perfect condition with all the limited edition bits
The first time I saw "Jaws" was a showing at my high school auditorium, When the guy's head came out of the hole in the boat I just about broke the seat I was in I jumped back so hard!! I have the 30th anniversary DVD version....perhaps I should think about getting the upgrade.
Dr. Sleep including the Director's Cut on standard Blu-ray is a crime. It's now my preferred way to watch it.
I'm not a horror guy but I fully support your comments about Suspiria. That movie is terrific - and I haven't even watched my 4K copy yet. You definitely don't have to be a horror enthusiast to enjoy it. 👍
Out of my UHD collection, my fav "horror" movies are The Witch, The Shining, Tremors, Bram Stoker's Dracula, American Psycho, Doctor Sleep, Midsommar, Christine, Evil Dead 1 & 2 and Mother! - Jaws too, if we're counting that. I'm just picking by movies I enjoy.
I don't really like the stuff Blue Underground puts out, but Zombie was a pretty damn nice UHD.
Blue underground make some great 4k releases. That zombie looks so good.
This was actually a great list. Here's my only issue. We bought Doctor Sleep on blu ray because we wanted the Director's Cut. WB really upset us not making that version available on 4K. They also did this with the first Suicide Squad 4K. Like my wife said that it's not right for studios to double dip for those of us who continue to support physical media. Again great list,& YES JAWS is just one of the perfect 4K movies!!!

@@EI_West1984 SERIOUSLY we'll be so pissed if it's just the US. The blu ray visuals are great with the 4K upscale, & the Atmos soundtrack is excellent. But I can't help but wonder why during this damn pandemic that studios, & streaming services are taking advantage of us.
If you think a modern 4K transfer may look better then it appeared back in 1960 in a theater you don't know how they looked back then. They look so much better now after restoration.

I know that Alien was on your Sci Fi cuz you consider it more of a Sci Fi film than horror, but I'm sorry, it's a horror film, and it's one of those things where i'll fight you in the streets for it. Okay, that was a little extreme, but you get the idea.
I just watched my 4k copy of jaws for the first time and loved it!
100% agree on that list. I will throw out another Blue underground and that's Daughter's of Darkness. That is another perfect restoration.
Very good list. An honorable mention from me would have been Second Sights 4K restoration of Dawn of the Dead. They did one hell of a job as that was always a very messy/fuzzy looking film and they made it look spectacular
