    I think hybrids and plug-in hybrids are still the right answer for most people! You can still jump in the car and go across the country if you want, without worrying about chargers!

    • @LaneLarson
      @LaneLarson ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Agreed. It also allows for a slower transition to full electric. The power grid in the US is not ready for full electrification just yet.

    • @KPHVAC
      @KPHVAC ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@LaneLarson I totally agree! We need another 20 to 30 years to double our electrical grid and put EV chargers across America! Some of the Toyota Hybrids are just starting to get good! They have more power and better efficiency without much compromises. The government needs to get in line with what the people want. Right now it's not EV everything! I only want 1 vehicle, so a hybrid or plug in hybrid makes the most sense to me. A few times a year I will drive 600 to 800 miles in a day and I don't want to worry about charging. Tesla is the only option I see with some electric charging stations. My small town has none and you go out towards Easter Washington and there are very few.

    • @andrerodriguez7603
      @andrerodriguez7603 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with you in the respect of driving cross country without stopping at EV chargers. But with zero maintenance, and lower fueling charges, I’ll stick with a Tesla.

    • @frontire_ace
      @frontire_ace 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@andrerodriguez7603 I was considering a Volvo ex30 or Zeekr X once they're available, but now I'm kinda confused since there are no electric charging stations in Bangladesh (my country), and I prolly would only be able to charge them in my own garage. I wanted to know, should I go for them? Do they really have literally zero maintenance costs? Or do I worry about aftermarket services or parts since they aren't yet that popular (not even introduced) and I might NOT find any servicing facility at any center around here. Hope I can get some advise since you're apparently a EV owner yourself. Thanks.

      I will never understand them tho - they are too complicated, more stuff for maintenance, when you drive on el you just carry the weight of the ICE engine for no reason and the opposite - carrying this heavy battery for the rear time you need it

    As someone who bought two Teslas last year I think you’re 100% right. Plus all the time lost charging on road trips in Teslas. It’s not faster or cheaper. They’ll continue to jack up the electricity charging prices on superchargers. The whole thing is a scam

    • @adan7182

      And Tesla pushes every vehicle with build quality issues and just expects people to bring them back 4 times or just give up trying to get a well built vehicle

      “Electric charging is not cheaper than gas” is definitely a fun lie just to get people on your side. 😂 It’s totally fine to like gas cars bc I still love them but ever since I started daily driving my Tesla, I’ve been saving around $500 a month on gas easily. Pays for the whole car payment and then some. And the best part is, I don’t need to hate gas cars in order to save! Now I want to save up for a C8 corvette, that I will never need to daily drive and happily pay gas for. I seriously don’t understand all the hate with EVs. Just enjoy your gas car and stop yelling at me lol

    • @adan7182
      @adan7182 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@zahf6484 I’m a dissatisfied customer. Why shouldn’t I voice my opinion. If you claim to save $500 a month on gas, you’re absolutely not doing an apples to apples comparison. Maybe a full size truck to a Model Y, there is some downsizing in the vehicle there. Definitely not a hybrid rav4 to a model y. On a road trip absolutely electric is not cheaper than gas. Supercharging is expensive and if your time is worth anything sitting around for 20 minutes every 100 miles is absolutely not worth it.

  • @KPHVAC
    @KPHVAC ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I'd think a new Prius-V with a larger hatch would be a good option with the redesign. I guess Toyota's thought is the Corolla cross hybrid and RAV4 hybrid if you want something larger. The new Prius definitely looks better than ever before!

      Toyota Prius vs the Audi Q3 - economy fuel saver vs a touch of Luxury... It's nice to save money on fuel, but if you spend Hours driving in your car (long commutes or repeated 6 hour drives) - the Prius seats are just Hard. The fuel savings great, the plastic interior is ok - and saves weight, saving fuel... but for Long, Long Drives you might want to get something built with Comfort as the primary goal.

    1:15 this is actually a big problem. This size is extremely rare which means you can't get different tires for this, nor are tires going to be easy to find for it. The only option on tire rack for these are a THOUSAND DOLLARS for a set, and they're just plain touring tires. You can't put anything grippier on the wheels. I like to put grippier all season tires on all of our cars but this car won't let you do that.

In other words, there are no tires you can buy that can fit except the one that comes in this size. This isn't an issue with the 17's because 215/55r17s exist and can fit on the 6.5" wide wheels.

      @@macaron3141592653 well, the new Prius does use different tire sizes depending on the trim level. Still, they will sell a hell of a lot more of the 2023 Prius than your car so I'm sure the tire selection will be much better going forward for the new Prius. Give it 4-5 years and you'll have more choices.

    Phevs SOUND like a good idea at first. Electric when you want it, gas when need it. Except for the fact that most people who could live either fully or mostly electric, really could transition to a Tesla just fine. Other BEVs, you need to be a bit techy to get. If your commute is under 50 miles round trip, basically any ev including my nemesis, the Nissan Leaf, can accommodate that no sweat. 100 miles? Again, most EVs, especially Tesla’s, can handle that no issue with home charging. Hell, you don’t even need to go all out with a wall connector. An easy 6-20 outlet can provide 100 miles in 8 hours, using the dirt cheap (relatively speaking) 12/2 romex wire that many circuits in your home already use. If you have to drive so much that you can’t get any sort of home charger to cover your daily commute, or can’t install one for whatever reason, then really a standard hybrid is a better option as PHEVs can have MORE emissions than a HEV due to repeated cold starts which can only really occur in PHEVs. The only possible scenario I can dream up for a perfect PHEV owner is someone who can get 120v charging but not 240v, can drive their daily commute within that limited ev only range, but also makes a 400+ mile road trip once a month or has a hyper unpredictable schedule that requires them to be able to drive at the drop of a hat. It’s so incredibly niche, and if you buy one but never charge it not only was that a waste of money but it’s also likely to cost you a bit more in the MPGs than the HEV would’ve. Now, I for one actually thing that PHEVs with more range would actually make sense. Anywhere between 75-125. That would have a legitimately large base of people that it could comfortably cover most of the time in ev mode; even the somewhat unexpected stuff, but also have the back up plan just in case of some emergency. BMW actually had sort of the right idea with the i3 Rex, but it was also a bmw with shitty warranty and piss poor reliability. Hence the harsh depreciation. Oh, while I’m ranting, anyone making a PHEV with sub 30 miles, WHY? Hell, I’ve seen some with 17. I’m quite confident that only senior citizens can make that ev only range work. TL:DR; PHEVs are 95% about driver peace of mind, not practicality.

    You have a bad habit if saying every car handles well while putting at 25mph. Maybe a more subjective opinion while showing the car in something of a straight line in what is essentially a school zone isn’t a good indication of a vehicles prowess. Otherwise decent content and video quality. Keep it up.

    • @TheDiameter
      @TheDiameter ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, if a car can’t take a 90 degree left hand turn at 30 mph without rolling badly or sliding it certainly does not “handle well” and I seriously doubt this could.

    Model 3 is cheaper after tax credits. A better deal for the money. Plus no maintenance and a better warranty. No dealerships, and salesman to rip you off also.

    I have never driven (or been in) any other prius before, but I drove one of these. Much smaller and more cramped inside than you'd imagine looking at the exterior. Also, I could not get used to the dash/windshield area, actually felt sick after the test drive.
    Probably much better than previous models, but I'll pass. Going to get a model y within a year.

    This is the company that still uses nickel metal hydride batteries in current cars. 👀

    • @gabharri910
      @gabharri910 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are some pros that make using nickel metal hydride batteries make sense. For one, the batteries can last longer in the long run than lithium ion. Ni-MH batteries also work better at temperature extremes from cold to hot.

      Toyota's synergy hybrid technology is the most advanced refined in the industry and most reliable. The new Prius uses lithium battery technology.

    • @wudmonster
      @wudmonster 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Jv72738 yeah, IF that was all true, which it's not, you'd still be driving a Toyota Prius. Essentially one of the most boring cars to ever be produced.
      You can try to compare a Toyota Supra to a Toyota Prius the same way, you're not factoring that the only argument for a Toyota is maybe a slight cost savings over 5-10 years. It's silly saying a Corolla is better than a BMW M3 because it's cheaper. It better be cheaper, you're driving a penalty box on wheels that saps all the fun from driving.
      And yes, a Prius to even a base model Tesla Model 3 is like comparing a econo box to a real sports sedan.

    • @wudmonster

      @Jv72738 yes, once you strap rocket boosters to a Prius or toss it off a cliff, it will do 0-60 in 3 seconds. Lol

  • @mss627
    @mss627 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The answer to your question is no. Years from now we will look back on this moment as the death knell of Toyota Motors. EVs are the future. There's no getting around that fact. Batteries are improving everyday in range, cost and charging times. Instead of trying to stave off the inevitable Toyota has decided not to give us a more fuel efficient vehicle but to give us a faster sleeker less practical one. So now we have a Prius with less room, meager fuel economy improvements from the 2010 model and dealer markups that make it more expensive than the superior Model 3. I don't get it. Why not employ the new battery technology to provide a 75 mpg version. There are plenty of us who are not ready for EV adoption but it seems like manufacturers are pushing us in that direction with intentional manufacturing slow downs and markups. Very few buyers who switch to EVs come back to ICE vehicles. These losses will be permanent.
