Hey Scotty I’ve been watching you off & on for a good while I sent you a question through this post I’m sorry but I didn’t know how else to do it I’m trying to help an older friend with their 1996 Chevy Cavalier crews control problem. Thank you
These are pretty nice now. Also if you want a hybrid but don't want a Prius, get a Corolla hybrid. They're AWD, hybrid and right around $28k which is pretty wild to have a new car that gets 50mpg and is AWD for under $30k and you get that Toyota dependability
My partner has a 2020 Corolla Hybrid - great car, it was only $23,000 when she bought it, it gets 53 mpg, and has pretty comfortable seats and ergonomics. I personally prefer hatchbacks to sedans, but we drive the Corolla about equally to my Rav4 Prime, and the Corolla is a very smooth, quiet, little car, and a great value for the MSRP.
Prius is the best car...period. I drove my 2005 to 287,000 miles. Was still getting 40 mpg. I've had all types of cars, trucks, and hot rods. The Prius is still my favorite. Looking to get a new one soon.
Get the 2024 Prime model. Hummmmmmmmmm. We have one (finally). It has 223hp, 0-60 in 6.48. Driving in EV Mode is like being in a church. We get 90Km on a charge and 62mpg in hybrid. All for $20,000 less than the cheapest full EV we could have bought.
Toyota needs to give Scotty a car. For all the praise he gives them, and the business he’s sent their way, he’s more than earned it. Come on Toyota, do the right thing!
My wife's 2015 Prius with 150k miles gets 50 MPG city/46 MPG highway and still runs great. Oil changed at 5k mile intervals and have never had any issues. I replaced the headlight housings last year due to severe oxidation and now use Plexus on all plastic components on all of our cars and RV. Toyota mechanic says the hybrid batteries are still healthy and the car could last at least another 50/75k miles or more.
Potentially much longer. You might have to replace the hybrid battery at 200-250k (very well could go longer), but motor and transmission could easily run to and over 300k if you take care it. Refurb hybrid batteries now too make the cost maintenance on replacing much lower too now.
Toyota E-CVT has nothing to do with regular CVT. It's a genius design when 2 electric engines sit around 1 shaft on planetary gear. And ratio gives you a chance use BOTH of them at high speeds, 1 of them would generate electricity on low speeds, or 1 of them would work as reverse gear. Scotty, do you remember when Prius had transmission worn out? Neither can I. Because it's so simple.
I wouldn't even call it a CVT because there's no belt, it's more of an electrified transaxle. And it's so good even ford and other companies bought this same transmission for their own hybrids
@@jeffreyvai6750 exactly. I think they can use a lot more tech and we will see it in future. Like some super capacitors, so a battery wouldn't wear out. 80% of the stored energy literally goes right away within 1 minute when you accelerate after stop sign or after going downhill.
Planetary gears not a great idea on a Jet engine, but P-W did just that, and they had failures during ground testing. Personally I would avoid any Airbus with the Pratt-Whitney GTF jet engine. Go Boeing, they do not use it on any I have seen. The planetary gears are to reduce fuel consumption. Lowering bypass-fan speeds. As in car engines, complexity has made engines less reliable, and the GTF needs more maintenance.
@@BigEightiesNewWave Boeing has more fatalities than Airbus. 737s are outdated piles of junk. 757, 767 are old trash too. Only 777 and 787s are good, but that's like 20% of all their planes.
What would be funny, is that you’re gonna try to find a car review in the future, and all the video archives will be titled “so and so shocks the entire car industry”.😂😂
I loved my 2009 and it’s still rolling. I really love my Highlander but the new Prius is calling me. Thanks for sharing your ride so we can get a real review.
I never thought I would say this about a Prius, but this is the most beautiful new car right now, in my opinion. Toyota did an amazing job by transforming the Prius from an unattractive and boring car to a gorgeous luxury car that is also fun to drive. Can’t wait to see more such transformations in the automotive industry. 😍❤️👌👌
My brother has a 1st generation Prius that has almost 400K on it. He had to replace the IMA battery once. Costs of battery vs beater for work and great gas milage. He kept the car.
Had a Uber pick me up in one of these 2023 Prius. The damn thing looks NICE and futuristic. Everyone paused and turned and looked at it until we pulled off. Nice on the inside too. Looks like something from RoboCop or something.
The Toyota Prius is a great car, not too expensive, low maintenance & very reliable. I have a 2015 Prius with 133k miles, zero issues & cheap maintenance. No major issues or problems at all.
I rented a Toyota hybrid last year when my 2002 Toyota 4Runner finally gave out at 232,415 miles. I drove it for about 2 weeks. It was amazing! I drove all over the place all around my city and the gas gauge barely moved. I purchased at pre-owned 2018 Toyota 4Runner because I love Toyota 4Runners but if I were to buy a car or Toyota makes a hybrid 4Runner I'm buying one! No brainer.
I have 430k on my 01 4runner limited. I still drive it .the two coolant hoses under the air intake manifold failed last month , repair was $660 at pepboys Im back on the road😮
Mfs have separate parking lots where they store them. So they pretend that there's "no inventory". Current draught forces people buy 5-8k over MSRP because it's like that since 2020 and old cars are being worn out.
In Winnipeg, they have been running Prius hybrid taxis for years now, in a city with brutal winters and potholes everywhere. If that's not a testament to Toyota engineering, I don't know what is.
good to know in canada with those heavy winters this car works. That's actually my only concern since I live in Kansas. I think I'm gonna give it a try
I have a friend who drove a 1987 Honda crx 2 seater base model 5 speed manual transmission. He drove modestly and averaged over 52.mpg. He bought it new and still owns it today.
I hope to get that far. Mine's at 298k...it was a 2010 and the early gen 3's had a few issues when they get old, head gasket and brake master cylinder/booster. Both cost a few grand to fix but I had one go at 265k and the other right now at 298k. I go between 6k and 8k on oil changes. Older original battery but that's the last big thing it should need. Mid 50's mpg in the summer and 50ish in the winter, with driving gently. With a new battery it could do 60s in the city with gentle driving.
I had a new 2018 Prius in Maine. 3 times the car would not run because of too much ice in the exhaust pipe. I had it towed to the dealer, and the mechanic sent me pictures of the ice blockage in the pipe just prior to the muffler. Toyota denied they had a problem but offered a possible fix for $2,200, at my expense, Go figure. I traded it in for a gas Rav 4. My non- Toyota mechanic said he would have just drilled a hole in the exhaust pipe. Pictures of the ice are available if anyone wants to see .
I had two '87 Corolla FX's, 1xauto,1x5M,. I was going thru mufflers rusting out every 7-10k miles. Either exhaust angle or engine temp not hot enough to evaporate the water in the gas. Thank god for 12k parts warranty.
Scotty is really right about it looking real good and it does I definitely love the looks of this one for sure and the gas mileage is great also I give it 2 👍👍up Toyota is doing great things
Toyotas quality has slipped... And they took jobs away here,to build more tacomas in mexico to build them cheaper and charge more you guys are impressed way too easily...id never buy a new toyota.
4:50 I agree, charger plugs for phones, non replaceable batteries, it doesn't just end with the sound. The future is gonna be fun, I'm ready for anything brother, keep up the good work!
Where I live , near San Antonio Texas...its about impossible to purchase a base Prius without a $5k to $10k dealer mark up. Happened to me at 3 dealers in the San Antonio area
I've got the 23 prime. The only major issue I've got is with the android auto to where the sound comes from the speakers from a video or music. Music works great, but audio coming from the video is 50/50 if it wants to adjust the volume. If it doesn't, it'll say "audio paused." If it works and you take a call, then go back to the video, it won't work anymore.
I just got off a 60 mile highway trip with my 21 mitsubishi mirage, got 52mpg... All internal combustion, 3 cylinders, 3 spark plugs, naturally aspirated, as simple as it gets.
@@bshaw71 I have a 2013 smart fortwo stupid car with 115k with the same mitsubishi engine. purrs like a sewing machine. they've made millions of these engines for vehicles all over the world for decades.
I have a yellow ‘23 Prime 🇨🇦 with tinted windows, and it has to be one of the most unique and sharp looking cars on the road today, especially in this colour 😎. It’s been fantastic in the four months I have had it. Gives the full EV experience (including electric heating… *ahem* Hyundai), without the range anxiety or high prices of a long range EV with a large enough battery to travel. And of course legendary Toyota reliability. 👍🏻
Had to laugh at your reaction to the “noise”. I worked aa an electrician on the power system and the sound I hate is the electrical bug zappers in the summer. It was not a sound I ever wanted to hear especially at work. Just love your channel Scotty!
Hello Scotty.. I completely enjoy your video's and have learned so much about what cars are "good or bad". Your honesty and knowledge about vehicles is refreshing. Keep 'em coming. Michael
Scotty, I'm still happy as a clam with my 2008 Prius and really wanted to hear what you had to say about the 2023 - but your audio was really poor (shouting notwithstanding). I think somebody sat on your microphone! I did turn on the- close captions and it was a pretty good review. You got me thinking about upgrading, Scotty... except that my 2008 is really running good!
On my 3rd Prius (Scotty, plural is Priia) and currently driving the 3rd gen. Not the fanciest car but I was able to train the computer new and got 84mpg. I’ve had her 8 years now and only recently had to replace bulbs besides regular LOF. She may not be very exciting to look at but she is affordable, dependable, and pretty good response in traffic both accelerating and braking. Even brand new (I intend to drive her 300k+) she was $13k less than the new 2024. Lastly, my 2015 trim III with the solar roof, fan, and moon roof is the ONLY Toyota never recalled! Say what you will, I will take a VIN from Japan anytime over others. Blessed 2024 all!
Sure, you made a pretty wise choice, but it was and is a chick car. Men who drive it lower their testosterone levels to the point of impotence. So that’s a tough trade off! There’s more to life than mpg.
Scotty, how does it shock anyone? My Honda insight has been getting 55 plus since 2019 flawlessly. 50k miles and zero problems. Both teslas, no problems. I would have to say they are the most reliable vehicles that I have ever owned and I own 22 vehicals for my businesses.
I'll never understand why automakers haven't spent more R&D money on hybrids. Going full electric never made sense with the current technology available...
It only takes a few minutes to refuel. You don’t have to locate a working charger then wait in line for the one in front to finish before you can spend the next hour charging yours.
A good friend of mine had a Pruis. He loved it, his favorite car. Needed a head gasket, the mechanic said it WASNT REPLACEABLE . Has anything changed? This would be a deal breaker for more, something as basic, simple and replaceable as a head gasket NOT being able to be done for a Prius? Is this still a thing with a Prius or not?
I really wanted one of these in March, when I bought a new car. My only problem was that the steering wheel position interfered with the vision of the front instrument panel. When I set the wheel position so that I could see the instrument panel, the driving position was uncomfortable. Pick one, uncomfortable steering position, or good panel vision, but not both. Too bad, I really wanted to buy one.
I’ve had 2 Priuses and have never had a problem going over 90 on the highway. I don’t know if I’ll buy a third since they quit making the Prius V which is a larger model.
My family has owned a gen 2 and gen 4 prius. They are just downright excellent at what they do. I do an oil change every 7500 miles for 35 bucks. I changed the brake pads at 110000 miles and they still had meat on them because of the regenerative braking. The lifetime mileage of my gen 4 at 130,000 miles is 57.9 mpg. If you look at cars like they are toasters, the prius is by far the best toaster on the road.
My 2019 Tesla Model S had a total battery failure, including the 12v battery at 41k miles. I realy liked that car but I didn't Trust it anymore. Thank goodness it was still under warranty. Got it fixed and sold it.
Hey! My 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid still rolling without problems at 210k+. The only repair ever required was replacing brake lines (which is a known issue).
@@YS-fr6nu Haven't replaced the battery yet. Only recently found the hybrid battery conditioning routine in Forscan. It takes so damn long though, and apparently my battery requires multiple rounds. of conditioning.
210K on our second Prius v Wagon. We sold it and it likely is still on the original battery. Still have our second Prius v Wagon (close to 100,000 miles now) and love it. That new Prius does look sporty.
I have a 2011 Prius II with 260,000 miles on it. Original hybrid battery and still the original 12 volt battery as well. I had the EGR value taken off and cleaned out and a new PCV valve. I do the tune ups and I remove the orange clip to de energize it beforehand.
Bought my 2019 prius brand new and I put 220,000 miles on it, I’ve done 10,000 rides with Uber and Lyft and probably 10,000 deliveries as well, only thing I’ve changed is the shocks and struts
I must say they do make incredible cars. My 2012 prius has 480,000 on her and still has original batteries. Only tires and brakes and plugs. Tires last 100,000 easy and plugs and brakes 150,000. It's just crazy! Ps it still gets 50 mpg and has enough power to get up to speed on freeway.
Love the Prius support! As a 2018 owner I see some changes to the dash, exterior, and engine, but honestly the rest of the car remained exactly the same. A great car and guaranteed to outlast 90% of anything else on the road.
My 09 Camry Hybrid has 403000 km and is all original and its getting 42 to 48 mpg...and it make 187 hp and 200 lb of torque...it hs no problem passing when needed...and remember it has 409300 kms
GMC is garbage. My suv had less than 90k miles and had $14k in repairs from “normal wear and tear” brake arms were bent on all 4 tires. Air intake mount bolts were broken. All new seals. New timing chain. Corroded oil pan
If you’re logging a lot of miles and paying for gas I don’t think you can beat the new prius. Seriously. Decent looking, enough power to pass quickly, well built, solid infotainment and freaking 50+ mpg with awd. For about $35k. Nothing else can match that
I have a 2021 Prius that I bought on July 1, 2023. It is a bright blue color and it is not ugly to me at all. I’m quite happy that I don’t have to fill the gas tank it every week. In the summer I was getting over 60 miles per gallon on the expressway and a few times I got over 70 in town at speed under 45 miles an hour.
35. i seen on sticker doing a PDI it states 39 hwy too bad the Fiero was killed off, some were rated for 50mpg...... using the iron duke it probly had negative acceleration though
Scotty: Get a Toyota Grand Highlander to review. I traded my Tundra for one. Got the XLE basic gas only and love the way it rides. After 14 yrs driving a Tundra (4 different ones) traded my 2020 1794. I wanted a better ride…..it’s great. 25-26 mpg on just gas. No hybrid.
I have a 2015 Ford Fusion Enrrgi plug in hybrid. 165,000 miles on it and still going strong. No issues. It does have a very similar drivetrain to Toyota hybrids, so maybe thats the reason. But the Fusion/Cmax hybrids and PHEV i think are pretty solid option and not "rolling piles of junk".😅 relatively inexpensive used as well. The Fusion is a much nicer ride than a Prius too as it's not so optimized for max MPG, but still gets 45 MPG city ( after EV range is used up)
😎 The generation 3 was the best Prius. In my opinion. The new one looks like a catfish from the front. The roof line lost 4 in, give us our headroom back!. And I thought the new CVT transmission actually had a first gear then it goes into CVT mode? As far as the dash all hybrids should have the The gauges way up in the center like gen 3 and you don't have to look through the steering wheel where the steering wheel gets in the way. I mean it really works,I really liked that. If you pushed power mode in the version 3 it was no slouch. It Was very Zippy. In regular mode. I even got 61 MPG on ours. If they want to improve the looks, the 2015 concept model front end which looked like a Pontiac was really a good looking model. To me, this one reminds me of a Porsche versus a Volkswagen beetle. It just looks squished down.😅
My understanding of the eCVT is that it has planetary gears controlled by a separate electric motor, which makes it completely different from a standard CVT. Am I mistaken?
My sister was in Africa back in 2011, and I was using her 2007 Prius while she was gone. I don't like to admit that I loved the car. It was very economical and could even fit a bunch of stuff under under the hatchback with the back seats folded down.
Been waiting for this one for a while. Picked up my first car ever last month. Choices came down to 2024 Chevy Trax or 2023 Toyota Prius LE. Which one did you think I ended up getting? 😂
I now have a red Prius Prime: lots of people are stopping and asking me about the car (in disbelief it's a Prius and not some new Tesla). The Prime is also a great all in one for my uses: I can daily drive on it's 40 mile EV range in Atlanta. Then I get great hybrid range driving through state highways to visit family in NC (in areas that will not be getting Tesla surperchargers anytime soon). The Prime has slightly more HP and speed: so the pickup seems sporty from where I came from (a 3rd gen Prius). Another nice selling point for me was the battery warranty is now 150K miles (gen 3 was 100).
@@gugy68 Yeah, when I was looking at getting the car I was hearing about the issues of availability and some dealers having large markup. I kept checking Toyota's website until I saw a Prius listed that I liked. Made the deposit at the dealer that day. They didn't have unusual markup with the out the door price. Found out while buying the car that they were trying to get you on extended warranties. The SE is also getting way less Primes than CA.
Still can’t figure out why people don’t get rid of the clutter in their cars before Scotty profiles them. People around the world watch these videos, clean your car.
I drive a different rental every week for my business travels. The last two times I’ve had an all-electric Chevy Bolt and a Honda CRV Hybrid. I didn’t care for the Bolt too much and I thought it was ugly. I drove the Honda all over Seattle and I really enjoyed it. A good looking mini SUV and after a week of driving with high west coast gas prices, it only cost $5.00 to fill the tank! That vehicle amazingly changed my mind about hybrids!
2024 Prius owner review after 5k miles - Great sporty car that gets ~48 mpg in summer, ~43 mpg in winter (fuel formulation?). Potential buyers beware: Low profile tires prone to sidewall flats, especially in the 19" wheel XLE models; almost no replacement tire inventory available, I waited 8 days for a tire replacement; no spare tire in the US; much smaller trunk than previous Prius models.
We plan to buy a set of winter grips for our 24 Prime. The 195-50-17 are not available anywhere. So, we will buy 215-60-16 and rims. One of those will serve as a spare on road trips..
Scotty, paradoxically, the CEO of Ford, Jim Farley, Before joining Ford in November 2007, Farley was group vice president and general manager of Lexus, responsible for all sales, marketing, and customer satisfaction activities for Toyota’s luxury auto brand, so I guess Ford was trying to use his Lexus knowledge to help out the company.
I would consider buying one if the upper trim levels didn't have 19-inch wheels with rubber bands for tires. The bigger wheels drop the gas mileage, and low-profile tires are expensive and yield a rougher ride.
There is one new prius review video on here somewhere where the person swaps the wheels and tires for wider rubber and smaller wheels, and the fuel economy impact was minimal.
Honda got the crazy efficiency by doing something they called lean burn which adjusts the air/fuel ratio way past stoichiometric to as high as 25:1 under specific light load conditions. As you might guess, with that much air, there’s a lot of nitrogen going in and creating NOx. Honda addressed that by using a special absorptive catalytic converter which could be slowly purged. The lean burn system was touchy and only kicked in under the right conditions. Lean Burn really worked great on the manual transmission version of the first generation Insight hybrid. An Insight can get 80 MPG at highway speeds and nearly 50 MPG in mixed city. Note the CVT Insight did not have lean burn, but could still get 48 city / 60 highway real world. I rented a 2nd generation Prius back in 2006 and it knocked out over 100 MPG according to its screen on the flat high desert near Flagstaff, AZ. The Prius is 4-door and much larger and heavier than an Insight. Somehow Toyota worked magic with their Atkinson cycle internal combustion engine. The Prius wasn’t especially pretty back then, but it was a damn good choice for a rental car.

Absolutely
The Corolla is so cheap I'd buy one of those now that the govt payola/subsides are gone on the Prime. I mean... if the economy wasn't so crappy.
The Corolla's cabin is VERY noisy. Could be the tires, but I'd get a Camry.

Too many shocks, Scotty. The car industry can't take much more😂
First day of 2024 and the car industry is already shaken. They just can't take a break.😂
At least they haven’t crapped their pants yet.

Thank you for reviewing our car Scotty! It was a pleasure and honor!
No brainer.
We did it only get 232k miles and not at least 300k, 400k like Scotty says
So toyota only lasts 40000 miles more than Ford that is interesting@@maxrx7

Hey, that’s very funny.
The problem with the Prius is the lack of inventory or no inventory. I am not buying 5K over MSRP. Great car, but Toyota needs to increase production.
This video isn't going to help.
Mfs have separate parking lots where they store them. So they pretend that there's "no inventory". Current draught forces people buy 5-8k over MSRP because it's like that since 2020 and old cars are being worn out.

I have a Prius V and a regular Prius. Both have been absolutely flawless. My regular one has over 700,000 miles on it.
700k miles?? What year is it? Original engine, trans, battery?

Italian tune up is all it needed.

My 2007 prius just had a failed battery at 203k. I replaced one cell that I bought off ebay for $25 and it's back to working again.
How can this be done? My father in-law messes with car computers to boost their performance. Could he help me like this with a prius?
Yes buy vin number prefix rather than model trim designation

Would it not be possible to change out the steering wheel? Or is that a in depth modification?

My family has owned a gen 2 and gen 4 prius. They are just downright excellent at what they do. I do an oil change every 7500 miles for 35 bucks. I changed the brake pads at 110000 miles and they still had meat on them because of the regenerative braking. The lifetime mileage of my gen 4 at 130,000 miles is 57.9 mpg.

I’m interested in one but the crooks dealers in SoCal want a huge markup. F… them! I’ll wait until this madness ends.

As someone who isn't really a fan of the prius, this car is very sharp looking! Toyota really did a great job with giving the Prius a facelift.
My 2006 Toyota Corolla CE still gets 40 mpg on the open road, and 38 mpg in mixed driving, almost 250K miles later.
Scotty,do you remember the Honda Civic HF from the late 80’s ? 63 MPG !!! I wonder what happened ?
The universe happened.
Nobody was willing to pay a little more to get better gas mileage so they bought the cheaper one or they would spend more and get the sporty si
