      My wife and I are going to be new car shopping very soon and we live in an apartment that doesn’t have any sort of plug-in facility and the only place that we could plug-in with relatively close distance to where we normally are is my work so a Tesla would not work for us. So definitely would go for the Prius.

      Not M3. I was seriously thinking of getting the Ioniq 5, but when I saw the 2023 Prius at the LA Auto Show last year, I switched to the Prius. I've put 15K on mine so far. I've grown SO insanely tired of the complaint about the steering and cluster. Even the view shown in this is just ridiculous. Unless you are sleeping while driving you would NEVER see this as shown. And when you look at the say he is setting at the 3:00 mark the steering wheel is like a foot off from his lap. It's designed to be lower. I'm a car guy. I've owned a 3000GTVR4, Corvette, and currently have a 911. I've worked in the power train industry for 18 years. But when you have a hybrid (and this is my first) there is a reason for the gauge cluster to set this way. It is because you do find yourself glancing down very frequently to monitor the power band you are in. This is not the same thing as RPMs. If you haven't driven a hybrid this is completely lost on you, as it would have been before I purchased this car. But, because you do care about mileage to some degree, you look down to see where you are on the power band to adjust to maximize the mileage. A simple adjusting of a pound or two can send it from 25MPG to 75MPG. So you have the cluster setting in a place where it is easily usable to do this. AND IT WORKS WELL! You can see everything great. The steering wheel is a smaller diameter and allows for easier viewing and placement. I love the car so far. I did a lot of research before buying it. And I've been happy with it so far.

      Thanks for this info. How do you adjust the power band? Is it by de/accelerating? The concept was understood but I couldn't imagine how it is done.

    • @miltonhayek2494
      @miltonhayek2494 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@ermahgawd3889 The engine does the heavy lifting. The motor helps, and completely takes over as less power from acceleration is required. So if you are keeping a steady speed the motor will run and the engine will kick off. This is all based on the power requirements. So if you are accelerating the engine will kick back on. But it is so smooth you can't feel it. There is no starter in a hybrid. So there is no sudden jolt.

    I love my 2023 Prius. I've got almost 10k miles on it (bought back in March) and it's been awesome. I get 60 MPG regularly in city driving. The main issue I have with it is the road and wind noise at highway speeds. It's super dependent on the road quality, when you're driving on a bad road it's pretty darn loud. I also wish the gauge cluster was more customizable, it's too cluttered imo. The placement of the cluster doesn't bother me at all and I think works pretty well

    I'm from Korea and interestingly,
    I've watched reviews about Prius basically from Korea and Japan.
    what people say about the dash is completely different from what people from the west say.
    Basically, we from asia find the dash very useful as it sort of acts as an HUD and people didn't complain about the visibility as it was excellent.

No matter what anyone thinks, I've had the last laugh - saved literally thousands of pounds in fuel bills over the last 10 years and my 2nd Gen Prius (doubtlessly over-engineered back in the day) has been astoundingly trouble free at 155k miles so far - and it's my daily commuter. Our 2024 Prime does not have the wireless phone charger. But, I do know that the cars that are equipped with the feature will not charge all mobile phones. It's not a fault with the charger, it's because some phones just are not compatible with the system. Also, if the phone has a case, that may prevent the charge from getting to the phone.
      With careful driving (and no electrical loads, i.e. heat/heated seats etc.), we can get over 80Km on a charge. We've had the car for two months and put 1,750+ Km on it so far. And, a third of the dealer fill-up is still in the tank. Gas here costs far more than hydro, actually, 2/3's more. With our daily driving we figure we'll save $ 1,600+ a year in fuel costs.

    Toyota's new 5th generation Prius has undergone a major change in appearance, making it even cooler. It looks like a coupe-style sedan.
    Because the front pillars are large, the top of the instrument panel is deeper than the previous model, making it difficult to see the bonnet and the tip of the body. The rear seats feel a little cramped due to the low seating position.
    Power performance has been significantly improved compared to the previous model. The hybrid system is now in its fifth generation and has improved driving force in the practical rotation range. Improved power performance makes it easier to drive, and fuel efficiency has also improved.
    Good news (prediction) has arrived.
    A derivative model of the current Prius is scheduled to be released. The car name in Japan is "Prius α".
    A station wagon-like minivan (overall height 1,545mm).
    It is slightly larger than a sedan except for its overall width, offering good visibility and ease of driving.The rear seats are spacious, and three-row seating is available.The rear has power sliding doors on both sides.
    The powertrain is a 2-liter hybrid and a 1.8-liter hybrid. It appears that a 1.8-liter hybrid will be available for the first time for the general public. The 1.8 liter has less power than the 2 liter at 140 HP, but the fuel efficiency is excellent and seems to exceed 70 MPG.
    I will report further information as soon as I catch it.

    • @datathunderstorm
      @datathunderstorm หลายเดือนก่อน

      Non commercial drivers / owners will love it. This particular 5th Gen Prius has not been designed as an Uber Minicab duty vehicle, hence the near Ferrari looks. The Corolla has taken over the duties of general Uber Taxi Cab in the UK. This is also great as a plug-in in the UK - but it's designed primarily to be charged overnight at home - especially with its slow 3.3kW/h CSS charging capability. That's 3.5 hours for a full charge from empty.
      You'll ideally charge this on a lower overnight home tariff where it will cost as little as 9p per kW/h - from empty, you'd be looking at a little over £1.00 at most - not £4.00 per charge - unless you're using a public charger - and they tend to be very expensive and not good value for money in the UK.
      In my opinion, £1.00 for 30 miles (winter) to 50 (summer) miles for your commute is an unbelievable bargain.
      That's about £5.00 or probably less per week commuting costs (assuming you CAN get to work and back with one charge (mine is a daily 34 mile round trip commute).
      With home charging, that's about £20.00 per month charging costs (exclusively for commuting that is). I presently buy premium fuel for my ancient 2008 Prius every 21 days to fill the 45 litre tank - last bill was £70.00.
      That would be £15.00 for the three weeks commuting in the 5th Gen Prius PHEV (a.k.a. Prime) using a suitable home charging overnight tariff.
      I'd be saving about £50.00 every month in fuel costs in the UK by charging it every night.

    They made this too sporty and unpractical to appeal to the typical Prius customer, yet it’s still not cool enough for the people that say it’s cool to actually buy one.

    I have a feeling Toyota originally planned for a yoke with this heads up display. Once they decided on a traditional steering wheel then the heads up display got obstructed.

      It means regardless; irregardless might be a little antiquated but does in fact exist in the dictionary and has been used for centuries.

    I liked the range of the batteries of the Pry-us Pry-me I would never pay for more battery. They need to get the price down on these coz without the rebates they make no sense. The instrument cluster is indeed cringe on the new cars. Yikes. What was Toyota thinking?
    The real deal-killer tho' is no CD player the Subaru has it this doesn't so will be switching to a gasoline-based Subaru this coming year. Too bad... Toyota had it totally nailed down with the old Prime they should have stuck with it.

      It's called technological evolution. Even though my 2008 Prius Tspirit (UK) has a 6 CD changer, I already have ALL my music in digital format, so I can listen to it on my iPhone or use an old iPhone 5S as an iPod connected to the Prius via an auxiliary audio cable. Shame I cannot integrate Apple Car Play into my ancient 2nd Gen Prius - and yes, I'm over 60 years old by the way.

      I never thought I’d want a Prius but I’d definitely take one of these. They hit a home run on looks except for when it comes to the dashboard. I’d rather have a traditional cluster like in the Corolla.

    no dc fast charging, unforgiveable

    • @datathunderstorm
      @datathunderstorm หลายเดือนก่อน

      Toyota did that on purpose. Even the AC charging is limited to 3.3kW/h max. Very wise move. That plug-in traction battery is going to easily last the lifetime of the car. Why do I say that? Toyota do great BMS technology for their vehicle's hybrid traction batteries. This easily explains why my ancient 2008 Prius is still going strong at 155k miles with the original traction battery which is showing negligible degradation after 15 years of continuous use....!!! (Tested by Toyota December 2023).
      The plug-in model is designed ideally to be charged overnight in your home garage - preferably on a cheaper overnight tariff for the greatest savings.
