Hello, thank you for your reviews on those mini bikes. I have tried the Monkey and its a blast. The MSX/Grom is more a street bike and has a more sporty look/feel so I can understand why thats your choice of the three, also it has that nice speedometer with gear indicator and RPM, which, unfortunately the other two has not.
However, I am old and I have just sold my GS500 Suzuki and ordered the Dax because:
    1) its the most unique bike in the whole world,,, show me just one bike similar to that one?
    2) my brother had a ST-50 Dax in gold color in 1983, and ever since I have been hooked on the unique style and design of the Dax.
    3) i am not overly glad that they put the centrifugel gear shift on the Dax, would have preferred the traditional clutch, but I do think 4 gear is better in ratio to a mere 9 hk engine. I have watched a lot of reviews on the Dax and it seems like when you have gotten used to the centrifugel gears it works pretty fine, but I agree with you on that point.
    4) the steel tubes that connects the body to the back wheel are square on the Dax, for enforcement, and like a real big bike, but on the Monkey they are weaker and made of small round tubes.
    5) as I said I have sold my GS500 and will be riding the Dax, because I have reached a certain age where the Dax (and the Monkey) offers me a riding position where my back does not hurt, even after 100 miles of riding. That is one thing the makes me refrain from the MSX/Grom as the riding position is similar to a normal street bike, and my back cant handle that in the long run.
    6) so my choice is between the Monkey and the Dax, and the point that you can carry a passenger on the Dax, plus the enforced back-swinger are just two good reasons for me to choose the Dax over the Monkey, although I prefer the standard gear/clutch on the Monkey, and I equally like the style of the Monkey.
That’s the reasons for me to chose the Dax!
But your reviews were really good, and its a great idea to do review of them separately and get a conclusion. I appreciate why you choose the MSX/Grom as its lighter, faster and more like a real street bike, but its also very similar to many other bikes, i.e. Kawazaki Z125 Pro… On the other hand, the Monkey and especially the Dax will always keep its money value, as it is completely unique and those who buy the Dax do it for the retro feel, opposite those who choose the MSX/Grom.
I would like to make a request for future reviews: the scooters in the 125 range, like the PCX 125, NMAX 125 etc.
Have a nice day, and take care!😊

Question: how good is it off-road

    • @JK-kb3cr
      @JK-kb3cr 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@lordtachanka8255 It's useable off-road with the tires, but there's a couple of things to consider. The suspension is very soft and it will bottom out easily. You really have to change the suspension to something tougher if you plan on taking this a lot out on the trails. The bike is small and compact, so the weight is way down under your body. Standing up, it really feels more like a street bike than an off-roader. There's also many materials on the bike that could get scratched up, like chrome and paint. So it's something to consider unless you really don't give a crap about scratching up your ride. But for the occasional small off-road adventure where most street bikes can't go, it's completely fine.

100% with you on the fabulous Grom. I rode one last year and loved every minute. I was so impressed with the engine that I swapped the Grom for a CB300R single which has an equally amazing power output - just more of it! Honda really know how to squeeze torque power and fuel economy out of a small and apparently simple engine.

Just to clarify, the heel toe lever was designed to stop users marking the tops of the shoes when up shifting, but you can just hook your foot under it as normal. Some bikes with clutches use it as well. It’s not a function of the clutchless gearbox. That’s a whole other thing and does take getting used to.

    • @Ashley.D
      @Ashley.D 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

If I remember correctly from the original review the shifter was backwards, so hooking your toe under the lever as normal and tapping upwards would actually knock you down a gear. For me it would take a lot of getting used to, even using it as a conventional lever rather than a heel-toe lever.

I went for a yellow Monkey instead of the Grom. I think an oversized Monkey looks better than a downsized CBF. Plus that extra money you spend on a Monkey gets you some nicer material choices which makes the bike feel premium. The Monkey is also more plush and comfortable compared to the Grom.
One thing you failed to mention which I think is worth considering, is that the Grom allows you to carry a passenger and the Monkey and Dax doesn't. Other than having the option to carry a passenger, it also allows you to carry more luggage. This has almost tipped me over into buying a Grom as well, so I can have one bike for zipping around town (Monkey) and one for weekend stuff (Grom). Ultimately, these bikes are so cheap that you can own more than one, but it's nice to see this comparison. Nice video!

I am 57 years old and have had all sorts of motorcycles. I currently own a 2023 Multi V2S. Last year, I got the idea to buy a mini bike to transport on a hitch carrier (less complicated than a trailer) for my RV and also to take to my house in Florida for the winter. Anyway, I wanted a Monkey but none were available in Canada, so I got a Grom. I preferred the look of the older Groms, I can't get used to the look at all, in fact, I find it ugly... It's more suited for teens getting started with motorcycles. But for an old guy who wants a second bike, the Monkey is much better. I'm not originally a fan of old or vintage stuff, but the Monkey is a work of art in itself. It reminds me of my first bike; I had a mini trail from Kawa. And in the end, on the Grom, I just feel like people think I bought a bike too small for me (I'm 6 feet tall). Whereas on a Monkey, it's obvious that it's kind of clownish, but that's the point of riding a Mini Bike. So, I'm coming back to Canada next week, and will swap my Grom for a Monkey and play Coco the clown!😆

Reading was the worst part 1720 miles in a week but the small wheels on these would never have coped with the long days and wet roads like the Cub. As mentioned to you before, we have a Grom and a Monkey. Both are fun and easy to ride, but the Monkey gets more looks and generates the most conversation. I rode it to the voting station the other day and spent more time talking with people about it than it took me to wait in line and vote.
I’m now considering a Frankenstein-like experiment by sacrificing my GS and installing on my Monkey, my GS’s ESA, drive shaft, and telelever suspension. And finally, for some get up and go, a NoS system. Those features will make the Monkey come alive. 🤣🤣🤣
I’m glad you did this review. Not everyone likes minimotos, but it’s undeniable that they are fun.

When there is a dax, there shoould be a hunter or super cub as well. It is basically same engine. I personally would want dax or some cub only with 5 gear kit and with 10-11 kw. I ride semi-auto with same power and it does not like hills. Otherwise it is super slow tempo fun and great in traffic, but really when I go to joy ride in my area there is too much hills, and when it is really windy it sucks.

Being 5’6” (167cm) and my girlfriend being 4’10” (147cm), it’s the Grom because you can have a passenger on it and the bike is more of our mini proportion size for non-highway riding in the USA. The Monkey is not designed for 2 people (where are the back foot pegs!). Anyway, it will be my first bike (but I’ve ridden bikes all throughout asia during travel). 125cc is about right and I would never want a bike over 150cc (though I’m not interested in highway driving).

Hi Andy, interesting the price differences these things sell at around the world. Here in Thailand where there are many MSX / Grom’s on the street the sell for 69,900 THB on the road, that’s less than £1,650!! The Monkey bike is significantly more.

  • @8Jacob2

Hi, the best choice is actually TNT from Benelli.. It wins in every discipline, maybe only the quality is better by Honda.. However, Id also choose MSX if the choice was outta these 3 :)

  • @Kim_Miller

Unfortunately the little Hondas have been axed over here in Australia. In 2022 the design rules required every bike to have two channel ABS and these bikes didn't have it. The ABS models only have single channel and they miss out. It's a crazy requirement on such a small and low powered bike and it's a shame that they've become a dying breed.
I nearly bought a Grom for a little city bike but the price over here was out of whack for such a little bike. For just about the same money I ended up with a Husqvarna Svartpilen 401, a total hooligan of a bike with styling as eccentric as the Grom.

I just asked this question in your Grom and Monkey videos a few minutes ago. I didn't see you did a pick the best of Minimotos video 😅
Same thing for me, the Grom has a lot more going for it at a lower price. In Canada the Monkey goes for 6,130$ and the Grom 4,780$. That's about 1,300$ more, I can't justify paying more just for cuteness 😂
Thanks for clearing that for me, going to buy my new Grom next month 👍

Grom makes the most sense, but I think its ugly, but I learned to ride on the original Dax MT70 and had a MT50 in the 70's. Did my rider training on a Grom and it was good fun. Ended up getting a ADV160 instead so me and the wife can ride 2-up. Nostalgia aside, riding just one person, the Super Cub makes the most sense to me.

I have a 23 Grom SP in white over here in the States, I love it but mine has the 5th gear loud whining noise when the bike gets good and hot.
I just also picked up a 23 Kawasaki Z125 pro, I don't think you get them in the UK anymore? I gotta say in a lot of ways I prefer the Z especially the suspension, it feels way firmer yet still plush. In that way it feels like a more grown up motorcycle. The downside is it's only a 4 speed so it hits the limiter at 67mph the Grom with it's 5 speed is closer to 75mph. Given those are best cases scenario usually downhill speeds 😅

I did test ride a 2019 Monkey. Yes it was a grin. Don't think I'd ever buy a mini bike. I'm just too big (read 16 1/2 stone and 5'11" !) to want to ride one.
Once passing a test, well things like an RE Hunter are available for very similar cash. Yes, not the same market, but appeals a real lot more to me.
In reality, if I have £4k hanging around, I'd wait a bit longer, get a few more £K and buy a second hand Street Triple. I miss the 660cc one I had !
Don't tell the Speed Twin, the Street Triple was a better "fun for one" bike ! ( but useless for carrying pillions)

I wouldn’t take the Dax purely because at my ripe old age I’m not interested in learning a different type of gearbox! I’d probably go with the Monkey, if you’re going to have a mini bike, you’ve got to embrace the silliness. What other people think shouldn’t enter the equation at all (given everything is legal and above board). That said, I’ve got no use for a mini bike so I’m unlikely to be buying any of them any time soon.

They're amazing second bikes. I don't think they could be an only bike but as a commuter / play thing they're great. My grom is easily capable of getting over 140mpg on the commute but also can scrape it's pegs, wheelie and let you get your knee down when you fancy it. The only downside is that whilst you can keep up with traffic on twisty national speed limit roads you can't overtake so it can get quite frustrating.

    • @BodybuildingSteve

if you don't need the motorway and can commute on them they are amazing, I prefer my monkey to any big bike ive had for commuting, its way way cheaper to run, easier to filter through everything and easier to manually move about the garage or wherever and round twistys its more fun for me because you can just ring its tits off where as on a big bike your braking before you've even accelerated, still love my big bikes for touring but day to day im a 125 convert
