I go over the manufacturer requirements for proper break in on a new Yamaha Raptor 700R, with some riding thrown in on my favorite trails: Brushy Mountain Motorsports Park.
Great video as always. Break in procedures for new motors are debated almost as much as which oil to use. I personally go with giving it a few good WOT pulls right off the bat. This helps set the piston rings. So what I did with my new raptor back in the day was this: Started the quad (duh), don't let a new motor idle for too long - bring it up to operating temp simply by lightly riding the quad for 5 mins. After it is up to temp, I got on a long road and in 3rd gear got on it 100% all the way until before redline. Then got off the throttle and let the engine bring itself down in speed (don't clutch in), then got on it again - again letting the engine bring itself down in rpm's and not clutching in or up shifting. Do this 5 times total and then change the oil. Refill with new oil (don't use synthetic oil for break ins) using cheap conventional oil. Now you can take it easy for the next 5 to 10 hours of riding not going over 50 % throttle. Finally change the oil after putting in these few hours and use quality oil this time and you're good to go. I did this same procedure for my 800hp mustang.
@@KyleRattay I would drain what came in the quad from the dealer unless they tell you they specifically tell you they did not use synthetic oil for new quads. But I'm not sure what you mean by having three different oil from the factory.... You drain the old stuff before putting the new oil in.
thats not how you break it in lol u need to shift more, having high revs is basicly the same as giving it full throttle ... keep your rpms down more!!!!
Thanks for commenting. The manual does not warn against high rpm. It specifically states avoiding prolonged engine load in the first 20 hours and to avoid riding at a set rpm. Any rpm high or low. Specifically to avoid prolonged operation above 1/2 throttle for the first 10 hours and vary the speed. In the 2nd 10 hours avoid prolonged throttle above 3/4, rev the engine freely, but do not use full throttle at all. I know there is a lot of debate about break in. And to be honrst I didnt follow those rules exactly because as I mentioned only getting to ride once a month for 2-3 hours at a time, it would take me almost a year to get it broken in. But I thought I would share the manufacturer recommendations. And I did do my best to vary the rpm range as I rode which the manual states several times.
Congrats on the new Raptor. Looked like a perfect day to ride.
Thanks! It really was. Sunny and low 60s. Those are good days.
Always sucks being the guy in the back getting absolutely caked in dust
Hahaha. Definitely!
Great video as always.

Thanks! Great feedback. Thanks for posting this.
So cheap oil first the good oil bow you have three different kinds of oil in your motor from the factor

We need a video of the best products to use keep them clean after the trail riding a raptor detailing video
Ill add it to the list….
@@FunGoingFast awesome thanks !!
@@eldelapalma1338 You are welcome.
Can you do one for the yfz450r
Actually its the same recommendation and guidelines.
