    Great review! I'm no novice, but desperation led to the purchase my first PMR-30. I didn't own a firearm when the pandemic started. And regular trips to gun stores always ended with empty shelves except for boutique ammo, 22LR and 22 WMR. Reviews were mixed for the PMR-30. The common theme of the positive reviews was that you had to use the right ammo and load the mag per the instructions. I bought one, got the recommended ammo, loaded it according to the instructions and ran to the range. I quit shooting after four mags of perfection. I bought another one with the same result. I now also own two Smith and Wessons. Until something changes, I have more confidence in the PMRs. You can't shoot the weapon you don't have nor the ammo you can't get. To become effective one has to learn the weapon you have or can get. You'll gain efficiency and worry a lot less about caliber or the weapons you don't have.

      Very well said and I commend your approach. To be sure, while I would advocate centerfire for self defense, there is no denying that up to 30 rounds of well aimed 22 magnum rounds is something to take very seriously. You are spot on regarding the pistols, keep them clean and use good ammo, load the magazines carefully, and they perform well.

    Grendel firearms was closed down by the 1993 AWB.
    The p30 Grendel was ammo specific (only Winchester super X) and the manual said so. After about 1200 rnds it wasn't so picky. George kelgren then started kel-tec CNC.
    Kel tec at that time started making pistols that could utilize hi-cap magazines
    (For other pistols) that already were in the folks. hands low serial numbered p30s had a 2 piece firing pin, that was prone to breakage, and electors were often welded to the receiver out of place. At that time Grendel would correct these problems, and higher serial numbers were good to go. I have one of the low serial examples, got it cheap because the firing pin was broke. No big deal. I have had as many as 6 at one time, still have a few. Loading mags was much easier, mag release much better, (and could be made to work right, or left. The safety levers are ambidextrous, and prone to put the gun back on safe while shooting unless you take the lever off one side. I like them better than the pmr, but service and parts Make the pmr a better choice.
    On the one, the buffer could be put in backwards, the correct way is explained in the owners manual.

      @@CraigsGunChannel you are welcome, I have always been a 22wmr fan. The first Grendel, I traded for an Automag. It used a double walled chamber the inner wall had a series of holes, and gas between the two would put pressure on the case to shrink it. Jam-O-matic. The holes would foul before you could put a mag thru it. (10 rnds)
      Then I got the Grendel, never had a problem with it, didn't have the manual, but by accident, I only shot super-x

    Cleaning my PMR30 for the first time. I am not able to remove the recoil spring. What is a solution? Thanks

    • @CraigsGunChannel
      @CraigsGunChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the vide at around 7:38 it goes over removing the recoil spring. It is held in place by going through the front of the pistol on the front and is nested into a pocket on the barrel block. You can push the barrel block forward which will push the recoil rod out of the front, then grasp the recoil rod as it is sticking out the front, then let the barrel block slide back and that will free the other end of the assembly. Then you can lift it up while gently letting the recoil rod return to its extended position.

    For the second time in a year and a half, my PMR 30 firing pin broke last weekend. Fun gun, until it doesn't work.

    • @CraigsGunChannel
      @CraigsGunChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow that's not good. Any estimate on how many rounds through it?

    • @Skfoster64
      @Skfoster64 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I had to guess, around 2,000. I have had less than great experience with this gun. When the first pin broke just three months after I bought the gun, I made the mistake of following the instructions in the manual for shipping the gun to Kel-Tec for warranty work, i.e. UPS.
      I went to my local UPS Store only to find out they no longer shipped guns at all and they directed me to a special UPS depot 45 minutes away. When I got there, I discovered that they would only ship firearms Next Day Air, which cost me $130 from Arizona. Later, Kel-Tec only agreed to reimburse me for $30, after writing them a detailed letter. The whole experience really soured me on Kel-Tec. For a long time, I swore off buying any more Kel-Tec products.
      However, since then the pistol functioned very well until yesterday. On Monday I did a warranty request on their website. I’m very curious how they will handle my issue this time.
      Kel-Tec has a reputation for great CS, but my last experience was not great, especially since I followed the exact instructions in the f&@$ing manual and it cost me $100 to get a new gun fixed.
      We’ll see what happens this time.

    I flat-out refused to buy a 22 long rifle pistol because most of them were restricted to a stupid 10-round magazine, and yes I said stupid!
    Unfortunately I don't have the money to buy one of these right now, and if I could afford to, I'd buy at least two of them, and 4 magazines for each, just like my PMR-30!

    I hear they jam a lot. I would like to see them make a 2 1/2", 10 shot revolver, in 22 WMR. Think that would be a sick, back up piece. Thanks for the share!

      The two causes I've seen based on TH-cam videos I've watched are because #1 people aren't gently tapping the magazine with ammo to set the bullets as far back as possible, and #2 one guy found ware on the top of his firing pin from the slide-part directly above it (the one that you can unscrew and replace with a rail), he sanded the underside of that down a bit so it didn't make so much friction on his firing pin, which was previously stuck in the forward (striking position) and stopped bullets from cambering properly.

      @@CraigsGunChannel So far the only manufacturer I know of that loads the .22wmr for short barrels is Speer with its Gold Dot round. More than likely using a faster burning powder. Seems like it would be an easy solution for all the other manufacturers but I guess it's a highly common rifle round and a very uncommon handgun round, at least in use.

    I hear this All the time about using 22LR/22Mag Hand Guns for self defense! So I'm thinking Why Design A Great 22Mag Pistol and then Say It should Only be used at the range??? To Me this makes No Sense because I have Three 22LR Handguns, which I use at the Range, So Why Spend Much More Money for 22Mag Ammo, Just for the Range! OK, so having said this, I Just Purchased the PMR 30, which I will shoot at the range But I will not Hesitate to use a 22LR or 22Mag Hand Gun for self Defense!! I must also say that I am 78 years old and for Physical Reasons, I can No Longer shoot the more powerful ammo! I have learned to shoot the 22's and I now only shoot and carry these Guns!! At my age, I will take a chance and use these Guns to defend my LIFE!
