I found with mine while new the mags were very tight and caused failure, only loaded 20 rounds for a couple hundred rounds ,now its flawless and eats everything.
I love your videos and reviews. You remind me of someone I grew up with in Illinois but I can’t remember who! I’m 75 now, that explains a lot. I just got my PMR-30 Camo Cerakote a couple of weeks ago and did not have a good experience at the range my first time out, feed issues. I went home and cleaned the gun plus polished the feed ramp with some 30 micron sandpaper I have. I also studied the magazine design and realized how critical loading the mag is. Today I went to the range again and shot 300 rounds without a single issue. Almost too much fun for an older man to have! I shot 100 rounds each of: CCI Maxi Mag TMJ, 40 gr CCI Gamepoint Jacketed Soft Point, 40 gr Winchester Super X FMJ, 40 gr I only loaded the mags with 25 instead of 30, those last 5 were too hard for me to load. Plus, simply dividing a 50 round box in half is easy.
Thank you for the great footage. Just purchased the second PMR30 with wife for her personal defense, light weight with hand full power for her to have the last word!
Mine is 3 years old. Had many failure to feed issues using both CCI and Hornady. Sent it back to Keltec, they replaced barrel, slide, spring and several internals and now it runs 100%. Keltec will fix them for free so dont struggle with the issues, call them and get it fixed.
Yeah, ATK makes the 22wmr stuff for them, federal, and fiocchi. There's also a rumour that the new production Remington premier 33gr stuff is made by them as well...I have good reason to believe that it does. I'm on the cusp of buying another 22wmr firearm, this time a CZ. A 512 American.
I have been shooting my PMR 30 for over 3 months once a week at my LGR here in Sunny Florida and I have had just a few minor problems so far with this gun! I have to say that it is very accurate and very reliable, with about 1000 rounds so far! I also have two Kel-Tec P17's and a CP33 which are also very reliable and I use my P17 as my EDC!
If you read the manual like I know some “ experts “ feel they don’t need to it will function fine like mine does, can’t say all of them are good and maybe I just got lucky as that happens because I bought one of those real nice Ruger .22s that have been around forever and are so good but mine for some reason was the biggest POS I’ve ever bought and I’ve been buying for 40 years and yes I tried everything but to get back to the point my PMR 30 works great and it seems the faster you fire it the better it works ! A pretty strange gun but my P3AT and P32 all work flawlessly, go figure.
I bought one in August of 2020 and I have never had a problem I haven't shot it much maybe 100 rounds but it shot every one. I believe that keltec has fixed there problems
Just ordered stiffer spring for the slide. So far this has been a very reliable fire arm for me. I do notice when doing drill practice at the range I may get a malfunction after going thru several magazines without cleaning. .22 is dirty ammo. Also good idea to number your mags. You may find failures happen with the same mag.
Mine's great, and actually likes those 30gr VMAX and Critical Defense. I have noticed that I get less magazine-related feed issues with ammo that uses chrome-plated brass. I also took the time to sorta "faux" break mine in even before shooting it by cleaning and lubing and then cycling the slide (not pulling the trigger) hundreds of times. First time at the range, flawlessly went through 3 mags of good ammo. Started testing out cheap ammo (Winchesters were the worst) and of course, problems out the yinyang.
Glad you got that to feed well with the suggested ammo. Very handy pistol to have as it turns out. I was actually going to say that it was a malfunctioning wreck of engineering, but everyone else beat me to it on the last video. If Tim will let you, let's see what happens when you let loose on the trigger and wail out a good 10 or 15 rounds at a fast as you can pull rate.
@timmybmn That would be great! Making that pistol a sure fire to feed and eject would be breath taking. Looking back to when my grandfather used to take me to ranges in the early 80's. As well as remembering the different pistols I saw or that other family members had at the time. The capacity is something I wouldn't have imagined possible without some sort of mad custom build. Make a video of the finished product. I think it will be a fine example of today's firearm progress.
I own 2 Kel-Tec's and I am a huge fan. Planning on buying a KFG, I have the RFB and the PMR30. I shoot the 30 grain CCI V-Max out of it with no issues. The first 30 rounds in each magazine when they are new is a pain. But after that first break-in I had no issues. Just get the rounds seated in the back of the mag and you're good to go.
I just picked one up and i like it. I shot about 150 rounds out of it the first day. All i did was put a little oil on it and it ran good. It had one fail to feed, it just did not push the round up to feed it. I was running 40grn. Thanks for the video.
From all the reviews I've seen or read on the PMR30... keep it oiled big time , use maxi mags and it will shoot great. The FTE's are common with it due to the really long casing of the 22 mag Who Tee WHOOOOOO!!!!
I love 22 mag too man. I only have my Rough Rider right now. Looking to get a full size 22lr pistol for now. I just love the cost of plinking with it. Cool gun and another great video brother. Thanks
Nice looking gun it's different and it did run better with the higher grain 22magnum rounds . i would buy one for plinking since it has a 30 rd mag capacity and that makes plinking fun less reloading and more fun👍
I've read if the magazines are only loaded to 25 rounds, it won't have any problems. Yeah, it's not the max it can hold, but 25 rounds of .22 WMR is still pretty good, and two mags full equals one box.
I have one of these pistols myself I like it alot. But being brand new I had a lot of issues with it loading and a few issues ejecting. Overall it's staying I'm going to continue to buy ammo and run through it eventually I'm pretty sure it'll get really nice and smooth and accurate. Excellent video by the way! I need to find about four more magazines for it to
I’m a huge fan Great Reviews always Could you do a ballistic test using cci maxi mag .22 40 grain segmented hollow points and the Hornady .22 45 grain critical defense rounds for expansion and penetration in the PMR 30 Greatly appreciated if you could Sir 😊
Mcarbo sells an upgrade packagethat really takes care of all those failures....i have the pmr30 and the stainless feed ramp i installed and polished and the enhanced mag release are key to eliminating the ftf and fte
Thanks for having integrity and setting the record straight based on some of your comments that revealed incorrect conclusions. All guns have their favorite ammunition. Like you, I have no skin in the game with Kel-Tec.
I just got one yesterday and took it to the range today. I was Sooo disappointed. Ran CCI Maxi Mag .40gr FMJ and hollowpoints. It was grouping like 12 inches @ 10yds. I didn’t think it was me. Happen to get one box of Winchester Super X .40gr and Wow! It stacked them on top of each other. Very accurate gun. So I tried the CCI again and my PMR does Not like CCI. Could be a bad batch? But what an Awesome pistol!
Thanks for the review. Just a quick tip for you if you want to use it...your off hand needs to ride up higher. I think this will improve your shooting accuracy.
Two of my buddies use that pistol as an every day carry, in shoulder rigs with double mag pouches, 90 rounds of ammo. They both tease me for carrying my G23 with two extra mags, with 39 rounds.
For those who say Kel-Tec is junk... I have several friends who have used and carried Kel-Tec pistols for a very long time. One friend carried a Kel-Tec P9 for about 15-20 years, and shot extensively with it. In that time, check had only one malfunction. It was about three years after he bought it. He was at the gun range shooting, when there was a flash and a whole lot of smoke. The slide had seized up fully back. The problem was that he had never cleaned or lubricated the gun through thousands of rounds. The powder residue all over the gun ignited when he fired, and seized the gun up. The gunsmith at the range managed to free it up with some solvent and oil, plus some coaxing with a nylon mallet. He then sold my friend a cleaning kit and showed him how to clean his gun. He carried and shot it for many more years without a single issue or malfunction.
Keltecs also seem to have a longer than usual burning in time. That is to say, you can’t take it out of the box and put it in you belt and expect it to work 100%. Seems like most of them need 100 rounds or so get the action cycling dependably and the ammunition feeding properly.
I made a comment about the PMR being a turd. I know you said it was a friends, Now that you have confirmed it for a second time I feel much better knowing you didn’t waste your money. One good thing by making these videos is you helped a lot of people realize if you buy this pistol you are ammo restricted which really shouldn’t be something a consumer should have to guess when buying a firearm. Great videos! Please don’t take my comments as me being a douche, it’s just an opinion. I did notice I didn’t get a heart on my comment last time. Every time in the past you have........ you must be comment restricted like the PMR. Lol
I spend several hours every day responding to comments. If I pay attention to the negative comments it gets me down, so I simply ignore the comments that include negativity 🤣
WHO_TEE_WHO Well there’s a fine line between negativity and reality, it’s called honesty. Some time honesty’s not the answer we like because it’s mistaken for negativity. I’m also sure that others have had different experiences with this handgun considering different generations were made, as far as I know. Anyway, now that I know you only accept positive comments only and that experience is automatically considered negativity I won’t comment anymore. Thanks, Scott
👍👍 have a good one Black Bart. I am sure atleast in a small way you can understand where I'm coming from. Reading negative words over and over every day can put you in a bad mood so I simply try to avoid it. If anything for the sake of people around me
I want one. I've seen one other review and their take on it was the same as yours. Use the right ammo and its a great pistol. EDC? Most definitely. Its light enough and has enough power to get the job done. And you just can't beat the ammo capacity. Also with that capacity load 2 less in the mag and maybe that will cure the failures when first shooting. In a personal defence situation. That's what matters the most. To be able to rip out a few to protect yourself and not have any failures.
not related to 22 mag, but ordered a cimarron pistolero 45 colt monday, received today and the case hardened frame is ooooh :-) just wanted to share. always wanted a PMR30 since they came out.
@@WHOTEEWHO yup i was going to buy the heritage 22 case hardened but kinda looked blah, and my buddy has a taurus judge, so in order to make him some light loads (no profit involved) i decided it's been long enough that i've been thinking of a 45LC.
On Mine, I used Federal 45 grain & the CCI Mini Mags with No Problems But I tried some 30 Grain bullets which Did Not Work at all! Next range session, I will load all three of my mags with the CCI Mini Mags 40 grains and I will get a better Idea of it's Reliability But for what I have experienced so far is the 45 grain and 40 grain bullets work best!
Definitely shoots a lot better with that ammo. Even the one FTE and being a little hard to slide forward a couple times, is still a good showing for the second video. The magazine spring is probably still putting a lot of tension on that 30th round. I have a feeling in the future videos it will be running much smoother.
I like it, the only draw back to me is the slide-release, it would take some getting used to, all in all looks like a fun gun to shoot... good shooting WHO_TEE_WHO
CCI is the best also I bought a speed loader from Amazon. Not one problem with jamming. Do yourself a favor and buy the speed loader. No more problems. For some reason you cant load all 30 rounds by hand only. To many jamming problems.
I wanna like that gun so much but just can’t. I had two of them and had constant issues. You are correct that 22mag in a semi auto is always Finicky. I just moved on to FN 5.7 and never looked back. The 5.7 still has some reliability issues but no where near as many. Great video.
Seems as though you were gentle with the words opposing the KEL-TEC PMR30 and never owning one after being on the market for 13 years....that being said I am to pick up mine at three today shows that I am not affected by your video because you spoke the truth! Problems come with all guns at some point!
CCI maxi mag 40gr is what I shoot out of my levergun. JC Higgins (aka marlin) I wouldn't use any semi auto rim fire for a defense firearm. If you want 22mag for your lady get her a revolver. Good shooting.
Who-tee-who lets ya know the deal. Good and bad. You have to know what runs in yer guns. You dont just shoot ten rounds even if they suck you give em all a chance. Once u find the one then ya stay with that. Who-tee-who
you are removing your finger off the trigger most times after a shot. Leave the finger pressed against the trigger and release enough to feel the click, then fire again. Accuracy will improve. Thanks for the confirmation one ammo. I bought one to keep in my UTV at all times. It is great for hiking or working in the woods- so lightweight. If I can't solve an issue with 30 rounds of WMR, the problem is beyond most anticipated issues.
Hey WHO_TEE_WHO ! When you picked up your two new rifles 6.5 cm. and 338 Lupe. You said there was a third one, a surprise . Is it the Kel Tec ? Excellent information ! Excellent video ! 5⭐
Nice... 30 rounds in a pistol that size is just crazy/fun. 22 mag is badass. if you had to... it'll take a white tail. bought my son a SS Ruger model 77 22 mag, told him to hang on to it forever, it could save your life and put meat on the table if things go to hell.
@@WHOTEEWHO Made in your country. Makes for better pricing. I buy loads of CCI STD for my .22lr. 5000 .22lr CCI STD for 315$ is the cheapest I can get. Not many here use the .22wmr, more like the .17 hornet (or HMR) i´m not sure
Thanks for liking my previous comment! I would STILL love to have one of these pistols! They just seem to be hard to come by! You should try the TCM9r that I DID manage to buy! It also is a HOOT to shoot! Love your REAL videos!
nice vid. if you have any free time try to load 25 instead 30 rounds so you can see ,if there is any problem of feeding or if it will have any others problems.. regards from Greece
I found with mine while new the mags were very tight and caused failure, only loaded 20 rounds for a couple hundred rounds ,now its flawless and eats everything.

I shot a PMR-30 with the $249 upgrade kit in it and WOW. Stainless steel feed ramp, heavy springs, mag is all the way up. Huge difference.
Glen.... NICE! and good to hear! I just bought a Keltec PMR-30 and the MCarbo upgrade kit. I am having the kit installed by my gunsmith....
I love my PMR 30 and I wondering about the upgrade. Thanks for your comment I’m going to do it too!
I have the PMR 30 and only use CCI and Federal 40 - 50gr. Never a failure. My gun hates Winchester. Great video!

Thanks. The 57 in my mind is beyond what most people can afford. Pricey gun and ammo
@@WHOTEEWHO yep, very pricey and if i rememberize correctly the 22mag out preforms the 5.7 by a little.
Great video! My pmr30 eats up everything! Love my pmr30! Check your firing pin tho.
Plastic feed ramp is the problem, steel one from mcarbo is the fix.
Who-tee-who lets ya know the deal. Good and bad. You have to know what runs in yer guns. You dont just shoot ten rounds even if they suck you give em all a chance. Once u find the one then ya stay with that. Who-tee-who
Much better results with the right ammo.
Absolutely
That would make a perfect home defense gun brother your right.
Great video. I have a pair of ear muffs just like the pair you are wearing. Love them. I love the .22 mag round.
I love 22 magnum!
Me and Keltec thank you for this 2nd video, identifying the correct ammo and how well the pmr30 runs. Haha.
Also had good results running Armscor 40gn HPSP, avg 1250fps. and Winchester 40gn HPSP, avg 1350fps. CCI 40gn HP avg 1290fps.
Nice handgun.. 25m are a lot😬but with my S&W1006 I usually shoot at 25m sometimes even to 40m but I prefer the m4 for that distance🎯
Excellent video as always hope you guys are staying safe and dry I hear it's raining pretty bad there will catch you on the next one
Raining so much! Flooding in places
you are removing your finger off the trigger most times after a shot.
I don’t thank the second mag had any prob neither. Great video brother as always GOD BLESS.
That’s a great gun!
I’ve noticed when someone shoots mine their smile gets bigger as they shoot.
I watched the first video. And it looked to me as if the magazine's need to be loaded and sit. Cause the jams happen when it was loaded pass 20rds.
I have Winchester ammo for my mp1522 but I prefer 36gr cci and it hits that G Allen steel target at 200yds no problem with cci
CCI IS THE BEST AMMO. Very good video. Thanks
Thanks for watching John!
Great job. Thanks.
Mine rune EVERYTHING I could find, but I load them to 25 because those last 5 are tough to load.
The more I see this gun, the more I like it. If Canada ever smartens up and allows carry, I would absolutely get one for my wife. Nice shootin' WTW.
I agree 15 is good range.
It likes heavier bullets? Got it. So... what do you think? Carry material or not? Nice shooting btw.
I would
I carry mine, it's been nothing but reliable.
@@tleg6969 Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks, another good honest video. Keep up the fine work.
Thanks for watching Bobcat
It would be cool to compare velocity between that and rifle.
All that Kel-Tec needed was some proper ammo and a little breaking in. Sure is a viable option for the Zumba apocalypse. Thanks for uploading :)
I'm trying to picture what the Zumba apocalypse looks like... a bunch of aerobics instructors biting everyone?
David Tesch: A bunch of _brain eating_ aerobics instructors biting everyone, perhaps?
I've owned my pmr30 for 5 years now, nothing but reliable fun. 30rnds of .22 mag in a hand gun, what's better.......
Awesome!
Good fun for sure!
To bed late and up early. Every day! Always workin
Mine came with a paper that recommended ammo CCI maximag 40gr seems to work best. There is a break in period
Cool fun shooting there....I wish the .22 mags were a little cheaper as I love that round....Good stuff....
@@WHOTEEWHO Say no more....
@B real Makes good sense there....
Love those 30 round clipozines.
Me too!
Hey WHO_TEE_WHO !
When you picked up your two new rifles 6.5 cm. and 338 Lupe. You said there was a third one, a surprise . Is it the Kel Tec ?
Excellent information ! Excellent video !
5⭐
Nope 3rd one is a different one :)
@@WHOTEEWHO ten-4
I'm not allowed to talk about it until the end of March :(
Looks like a fun gun. Thanks for your videos
It is a fun one!
Would polishing the feed ramp possibly help the other ammo variations run better?
Nice... 30 rounds in a pistol that size is just crazy/fun. 22 mag is badass. if you had to... it'll take a white tail. bought my son a SS Ruger model 77 22 mag, told him to hang on to it forever, it could save your life and put meat on the table if things go to hell.
Ooh very nice!
Your shooting ia great it goes good then sour as you start with great trigger action then snatching
Good shooting!! Thats what i was shooting with no problems!! Thanks!!
Awesome!
.22wmr is more than twice the price vs 9mm over here. 30 round mag is a lot :D
Big magazine for sure!
It is very similar in price as 9mm here but slightly more expensive than 9mm
@@WHOTEEWHO Made in your country. Makes for better pricing. I buy loads of CCI STD for my .22lr. 5000 .22lr CCI STD for 315$ is the cheapest I can get. Not many here use the .22wmr, more like the .17 hornet (or HMR) i´m not sure
Thanks for revisiting that a lot of haters out there on the little pmr
Thanks for watching Tim
CCI ran like a dream in my AMT 22automag.
Cci runs this thing good
Thanks for liking my previous comment! I would STILL love to have one of these pistols! They just seem to be hard to come by! You should try the TCM9r that I DID manage to buy! It also is a HOOT to shoot! Love your REAL videos!
Hey Richard! Really appreciate you watching. TCM9r would be a fun one
Once in a while I see 1 at my local academy store
nice vid. if you have any free time try to load 25 instead 30 rounds so you can see ,if there is any problem of feeding or if it will have any others problems.. regards from Greece
Thanks for watching James
