Very interesting. I had no idea that jack was that good. I just got a 4Runner, and I will be keeping and appreciating that jack! Thanks for sharing, man!
Last year I did a search for a better jack for my built and lifted GX460. I didn't want to carry a Hi-Lift, so I looked at bottle jacks. I did find one that would go 24" (Baoshishan, for those interested), but then I checked the factory Toyota jack and it goes over 19", and I wouldn't have to carry an extra jack and worry about it leaking as you mentioned in the video. So I bought a couple of extension products such as from Land Cruiser Product to augment the capacity of the factory jack and all is good
@stevecarlson2346 Land Cruiser Product says their "medium" jack adapter is out of stock. However, out of curiosity, does this adapter fit (cradle) your _frame_ rail? It doesn't seem like it would from LCP's pictures. Cradling the rear axle, though, should be no problem ... It would seem being able to spread out the lifting forces across a larger surface area would be advantageous from a pressure viewpoint, so I'm wondering if there are any other companies that might offer adapters for our stock jack ...
This video made me go out to my 1996 Land Cruiser and look closer at my jack. It has the same capacity at 1,800 kilograms, but when fully extended it only hits 16.5 inches. Great info sir and great outro music with the rock version of the "Unsolved Mysteries" theme song.
Traveled all over Western Australia in Toyota Hiluxs. We used this jack frequently. It is reliable as ever and works a treat. Never understood the need for an aftermarket jack that takes up more space and is potentially less reliable.
amen! Thanks for sharing your real world data... here in America unfortunately people are heavily influenced by marketing. If it's not overtly marketed as "tough" people will dismiss it... it's small and brown... not big and neon pink with stickers that say "maxxx" or "ultra!" on it so they tend to dismiss it...
Thanks for the information! I’ve been wanting to get a small jack for my Jeep Wrangler that wasn’t a hydraulic jack. Found one of these on ebay last night for $68. Small, easy to tuck away and mechanical.
Agreed. Great jack . Don’t replace it. accessorize it - weld up or buy a piece of U channel to set on the top and I square piece of scarp wood or commercial jack base.
This channel is the real secret. Where’s everybody else? You are quickly becoming one of my favorite TH-camrs (KDSS is THE TRUTH and you’re one of the few telling it). Also love that audio track when you’re raising/lowering the jack. I’m blissing out over here.
Thanks for your very helpful vid. I have a 2010 FJ Cruiser which comes with this little jack. However, I also bought and mounted a 48" Hi-Lift jack to my roof rack because I thought this little brown jack was a joke. I think it has some limitations in off-road conditions, but I definitely have a better appreciation for the quality and usefulness. I also carry a hilift jack base and even 1 6-ton jack stand, just in case. Probably overkill. Thank you much for the education!
Wow, never knew how tall it fould extend to. Definitely will be keeping this around thanks! I just assumed it was short like the one that came eith my 1986 honda accord
I bought one for my perentie as I had 2 hydraulic rust up brand new, 10$ at wreckers and a high mount scissor jack as a backup and a kangaroo jack for backup for backup
Fantastic video. Those are words of wisdom my friend. Those jacks have gotten me outta many a jam in deep sand when a tree branch or driftwood went into the sidewall. 💪
My friend's dad owns a jack thats very similar that came out of an old Nissan or Datsun he said. Idk if its the same brand but it looks like an older version of this that is alot stronger looking with a wider base and its red in color. It works great, ive used it a few times i absolutely love it.
It’s part of the tool set that every land cruiser comes with. I’m actually going to be picking a second one because 2 is better than one. These things are lightweight and don’t take up any room.
I have one of those in my old 4Runner. Had to use it once when I blew a tire on the freeway. Never thought about it. Just jacked it up and changed the tire.😊
my 1992 holden(isuzu) rodeos factory jack is the same model the only reason i found out is cause its the same model as in my mums 2003 prado which even though the prado has a 2 inch lift and larger tyres it still doesnt have a problem with it compared to most other oem jacks ive jacked up the entire rear end of my rodeo with one of these and took both the wheels off to get swapped out so i could get my car registered and left it on the jack for about a week
old dodge trucks have almost that same jack. Sure it takes 10 years to use but hey i used it for years when i had no money to justify a floor jack. Now ive got 3 of those jacks and they are stupid handy around the shop
The other thing i carry is a rubber mat, about 30cm square, its made out of old conveyor belt rubber from a quarry. i usually chuck it on the ground then the jack ontop. its thick polyester reinforced rubber, it crushes down but protects the jack and stops it slipping off a rock or getting messed up by crap on the ground.
Great info! I didn't know this about the Toyota jacks. I'm going to take a look at the one in my 4Runner and compare it to the one in my Tundra and Tacoma. Wonder if there is any difference since the Tundra and Tacoma are US built? Great video!

How true ... unlike hydraulic jacks, this jack can be stored in any orientation and it will _never_ leak. And just look at its extension without any accessories!!! Sadly, I can see some prematurely swapping out perfectly good (and even great) items (Panasonic battery, this jack) for whatever 'cool' accessories are in vogue ... only, in reality, to end up with completely inferior products. 🙄
I’m going out to my garage right now to see what jack my landcruiser has. Funny thing, I bought a 10 ton bottle jack for my boat trailer because I didn’t think my Toyota jack was up to the task. Maybe I was wrong. Mind you, my boat is 3.2 tonnes.
Well, I have the same Takeuchi jack you describe, which was brand new and realised it comes with a comprehensive tool kit too and just tried it on my boat/trailer and it worked beautifully. As you say it’s 1 to 1 gearing so needs a little muscle, but it still lifted it. I put it against my 10 tonne Kinchrome bottle jack, and it’s higher too, but so much lighter. Thank you, I’ve ditched my bottle jack to my garage.
Hi, thank for this review. Do you by any chance have any knowledge of the Masada Seisakusho bottle jacks? My Mitsubishi has one of those. I’d be interested in your views if you can. 😊
The only issue ive found with this jack is that you need flat level ground and sometimes you need additional height so you have to place boards underneath the jack…
There I was - thinking the bigger the stronger. I have used mine exactly 5x. I have always wondered how these tiny things do it. Well, there it is - Takeuchi indeed!
um..they do 'break'. if you wind on the pinion with a large level the base plate domes down to the point it skips teeth. I now weld an inch long weld along each of the 4 sides between the eye holes that rivet the base to the top.
that would be abuse... use as intended and they will last forever... add a large lever to the pinion and well... there it is.. 😆... use properly and it'll treat you properly 😃 ✌️
Do not uses an impact driver with one of these. A drill is fine. (Don't ask how I know, but you can remake the gear teeth with a stick welder) I have a few, including a yellow one,1964?.

Yes the yellow ones were cast I believe, and unbolted for maintenance

They make adapters that will fit a 1/2” impact.
don't use an impact for this... the gears aren't designed for that... do it by hand with the provided sticks... or use a drill on low speed (low gear)
