    Tried it and it fixed my at least 10 year old Harbor Freight 3 ton floor jack. It stopped working altogether so I added jack oil and bled it at the rubber plug the way everybody says to, and that made it work. But it still leaked down slowly, about maybe an inch or two an hour. I bled it the way you said and it's working like new now. Thanks!

    Thank you Steve. I have a very expensive low profile/high lift jack that would always leak off and lower it's load over a 2 or 3 hour period. And after the load was off, it would drop all the way to it's lowest point.
    I had tried to find a jack repairman locally, but could not ... so i went to TH-cam. When I saw your video I thought "That's so crazy it just might work."
    After cycling through the jack exactly the way you showed, I jacked up the back of my pickup about 4 hours ago and measured the distance to the ground. So far the jack has not lowered even 1/4" of an inch. Many thanks Steve!!

I decided to buy one and WOW.....worked like a charm! I have a roadside assistance business so now I can repair stems in the field without taking the tire off. Ive done it a few times already and made about $35 off of each. Thank you, Sir!

    I've got an identical pair of those Michelin floor jacks.. both of them afflicted with the same problem.. won't keep a load raised.
    I guess I'll try this and see if it fixes the problem. The jacks are unusable in their current condition.
    I always thought the problem was the handle wasn't closing the valve tight enough... was mad one day and took a pipe wrench to the handle and tightened it so much it twisted off the "u-joint" coupling down there, lol. Didn't keep the load from dropping, though.

      If it needs rebuilding the kits are low cost and the jack you have is probably better built than what you're going to buy today. A good jack is about $500 and up . I'd buy a made in the USA its a lot more but you get a lot more. Cheers

    Another thing I've found in my experience, most of the videos showing bleeding hasn't worked for me. What I have found that did work was to pump the jack to almost full height, tip the jack vertically on its front end (wheels off helps hugely), open the release for the jack to go down. When on end like this, ALL the air is released from the lift cylinder before fluid starts being released. Set the jack down, open the fill plug, add oil as needed. Repeat at least one more time. I had a solid lift immediately, where previously I had a spongy jack following instructions from various videos. When doing it like this, you have to be DAMN careful, as there is a lot of weight to these jacks! Maybe even use a rubber pad when standing the jack on end.

    You are a genius. AC Delco 3.5 ton jack. Use it infrequently. Last weekend I needed to jack up a beam in my garage to take the sag out of it in order to build 2 temp walls for beam replacement. I would jack up the beam, measure the stud length, run to my miter saw, cut the stud, run back in, pump up the jack again, install the stud. What a beating. I was looking into rebuilding it when I ran across your tip. Worked like a charm. Thank you very much. I will be back at it this weekend to cut our old beam and replace with new. When the lift arm is completely up, I can push on it, and the crank handle starts to shutter for a bit as the lift arm falls back a smidge. No matter how many times I attempt to bleed all the air out, seems like I can not get there. I don"t see any oil drops on any portion of the jack. Any thoughts on what else I could try?

    Good procedure circulate oil ...
    Another one use along with this that helps jacks creeping down is procedure force oil around to clean dirt from ball valve seats >
    Lower jack, close release valve. Place foot on front wheel and pull up lifting arm to it’s full height by hand.
    Open the release valve to lower lifting arm, do 4 or 5 times and use foot to add some force while lowering couple times .
    These procedures really pump some oil around and with bit of extra speed that can help clean and seat valves better and purge any air if oil been low or jack tipped .
    Always check oil level appropriate before and after ...
    Saved a few jacks from scrap pile like this, got a nice 24 year old yankee trolley jack revived to 100% function yesterday ...

    I have a Pallet Jack that does the same thing. After I Jack it up it starts dropping and I can barely move the Pallet Jack a foot before the Pallet lays on the floor again. I should mention there is no leaking going on. Do you think this procedure would work for a Pallet Jack? I don’t use the Pallet Jack much at all which probably isn’t helping the situation.

      I would take a good look at the valve that controls the jack and make sure it does screw in all the way . If its not seating right it will never go up.

    • @dra6119

    Thank you for the great video . I bought a hydraulic jack from a friend for $10 . The jack will jack up but the handle won't turn in either direction to let the jack down. I took off the lower sprocket and the bolt that the lower sprocket sits on ,is frozen and therfore won't turn to let the jack down . Do you know how to fix this issue ? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You going to have to turn the frozen valve to free it up . Try some penetrating oil on it first then just turn it counterclockwise.

      No sure if you got this fixed or not yet but rennet if you are turning the sprocket tha goes into the jack it needs to go clockwise to loosen. The one attached to the handle goes counterclockwise to loosen the one going into the jack needs to go the opposite way due to the sprockets.

    Worth a try for sure. I bled my old one the other day and it pumps up quick, but won’t hold a load. It also makes a clicking noise once it reaches full height if you keep pumping it. Any ideas?

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you jack it up and it holds but it slowly lowers at the same time you hear a clicking noise it most likely the shutoff valve not closing tight or air in the cylinder. Try this and see.

    worked on my pallet truck. The uline instructions mentioned something similar as a fix but forgot to mention the jack needs to go all the way to the highest position before the air starts to bleed out.
    I just kept pumping with a load on it which didn;t work, a) no load and b) make sure you reach the top c) crank.
    On my pallet truck i needed to pump at least 50 times before it had an effect. Now it has been holding a pallet for 20 min, before it would fully lower in 2 sec. thanks
