Dr Africa explains this very clearly. He says removing and saturating an element existing in a whole food changes it to a chemical and that is detrimental to your health. I think it makes more sense. Would you eat it alone if no then it's not food.

So true. I’ll reduce the nuts and avocado and I’m heart disease from my forties. I can’t loose weight and I’m extremely bloating. So I’ll eliminate the oil and fat completely. Thank you for sharing.

    • @marks-0-0
      @marks-0-0 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I've been skinny fat for a few years while recently i also suffer from feeling bloated.
Although i went plant based about 3 years ago i still ate some junk food and loosing belly fat was hit and miss.
After getting some inspiration from someone i started making vegetable stews and gave up the bread i loved.
So after just a few days of eating porridge with fruit and stews i easily lost weight and my waist reduced noticeably. All with no exercise.
The trick now is keeping it up obviously.
Dr McDougal and Dr Greger are great sources of information.
People can't lose weight because they try to reduce what they eat instead of changing what they eat. McDougals Starch Solution is the answer.

If you are fat adapted (keto) you shouldn't worry about calories in olive oil. You will burn the excess calories as fuel where as a person who consumes carbs and oil WILL put on weight. This needed to be clarified .

I couldn't find any data that vegetable oil actually caused heart disease in the absence of cholesterol consumption. One study that used monkeys seemed to show that it did, but they were feeding the monkies .8g/cal of cholesterol in their diet.
Having said that, I do believe the American diet has too much oil, and that includes many popular interpretations of the Mediterranean diet. In the 7 Countries Study, the populations that Ancel Keys studied in southern Italy were only getting 23 percent of their calories from fat, typically, and the populations were free from heart disease.

Instead of 3 tablespoons of oil on a salad how about a half a tablespoon? That's what I do. That and a little balsamic makes my salad SO much more palatable. I avoided oils for a year and I was beginning to dread salad. Now I like it again. Also, a recent longterm study out of Spain concluded that heart patients eating more rather than less olive oil over a period of years had cleaner arteries. I also agree with Marie Clement: never heat oil.

The problem with omega 6 oils is the processing and the heating. The highest concentrations of omega 6 is found in plant oils. Olive oil is omega 9 and not essential. The metabolic pathways of omega 6 makes it far more important than omega 3. While they tell you omega 3 is anti inflammatory omega 6 makes PGE1 which is 20 times more powerful than omega 3’s version. Avoid processed oils. Get cold pressed oils and don’t heat it.

If you enter your foods in Cronometer - a food and nutrition calculator it will tell you you get FAT in your food. Just inside the food. Really. I had to cut back on Oatmeal because it had too much fat in it and was interfering with my weight loss (though I ate it for years and did lose 40 or so lbs). But people who think they need to add oil don't pay attention to the nutrition they are already getting. (It's in brussel sprouts and carrots - really!)

And oil is processed it is not natural. If your on the carb side of the fence dont you need low fat intake to make it work, so if your going to eat fat, eat what you need like flax seed or chia seed? There is no nutrition in it.

Also, you can’t talks seriously about this issue unless you know that 90% of the olive oil you can buy in American is completely fake. It’s not olive oil. It’s mostly cheaper oils from Tunisia and Southern Europe.

I think it needs a minimal amount of olive oil content to be labeled as olive oil. Maybe as little as 10%?

Actually oil does exist in nature. Olives and many other plants contain it. If you eat those foods (provided that they have been properly grown in good soil) in a natural way I cannot see the oil causing any problems. Processing and heating the oil is the danger. I eat coconut oil and grass fed butter. I have not eaten any other oils for many years

There is no point at all to talk about olive oil other than if you prefer the flavor. It has bad omega-6/omega-3 ratio in it compared to rapeseed oil, which is best for cooking if cooking at all. Flaxseed has one of the best omega-3 ratios but flaxseed oil acts really bad when heated. For your omega-3s, eat flaxseeds, grinded, unpressed. And for cooking, rapeseed oil (canola). Cold pressed canola is also best for salads and when not heated.

@Lee Turner Any oil is bad. But rapeseed oil is definitely one of the best oil possible (provided it is organic) and the best for cooking. The reason behind why it is worse than other oils?

Rapeseed oil isn't the same as canola oil.
