    When I changed to plant-baeed, 80-10-10, I recovered from a disease not listed by Dr. Campbell, that is, the disease of multi-joint (2 knees, 2 hips, confirmed by x-ray) osteoarhtritis. I was barely able to walk and needed all those joints replaced. Without any joint replacements, now I have no pain on ambulation and walk most of the day with no ill effects--this change started from reading Dr. Campbell's first book, The China Study! I idolize the man and feel a great deal of sadness about all the pain I endured all the years of omst of my life.

    My grandma is vegan for a 40 years by now. She is 84 and she has never ever had any health problems. She doesn't even wear glasses. She's more active and vigorous than most of my friends (and I'm 21).
    It's an amazing thing how we can use our diet to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle. Good luck to all of you!
    And greetings from Poland :)

      It should be around my 37 years old, and I am not a strict vegan but started quitting sugary beverages back then until now. I would like to first apologize to Dr. Campbell, for the simple fact that I nearly skipped over this video based entirely on the title. Thinking that this was just a lecture based on an opinion on improving the healthcare system, I was pleasantly surprised to see a healthy, elderly man sharing his facts about how the right diet can improve my own health significantly. A healthcare system that currently does not stress or display these facts enough, does not allow the communities to know the health benefits proper nutrition can provide. For instance, Dr. Campbell's statement about how eating whole plant-based foods can help prevent and cure diseases, was astounding to me. His intent of showing his audience the benefits of changing their diets to more nutritional ones, definitely shows beneficence. By encouraging a diet that shows significant results in treating illnesses, Dr. Campbell makes a strong case for me to make the switch.

      Im Yu.
      For the first 2 minutes he speaks about health costs. This same man spent 27 years carrying out a test (costing millions of $ )in which he fed animals milk for the first 12 years of the test. During those 27 years he told people that he could turn cancer off and on like a switch? He was apparently trying to find a cure for liver cancer. At present there is no known cure for liver cancer. 27 years and millions of $ wasted. At around 3.5 minutes without further ado, he tells us ( just as he does in every video he makes) We should be eating a plant based carbohydrate diet??? Then at about 6 minutes, he shows us a list of almost 20 diseases which he states can be cured by plants?
      Some of these diseases are known to be caused by carbohydrates (sugars) and we already know that cancer cells feed on sugars and cannot survive without sugar. Then he starts telling everyone about his trials…… NOTE that at about 9.30 minutes, he mentions the milk protein that he uses. He carefully skips over the part that this was actually 12 years into the programme, when he or someone decides lets try another type of protein….YIPEE EUREKA. We didn’t think about it at the time because it was simply a protein that was made available to us….YER of course it was. Like I said read between the lines don`t just listen and believe.

      @lazur1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      golfinguna Thanks. So he's not an angel, didn't know what he didn't know, & took part in studies that proved to be wrong, thus 'wasted' the money spent.. This doesn't conflict with thousands of cases where a whole-food-plant-based, low-fat diets have reversed heart disease & diabetes, & slowed the growth of many tumors.

    • @golfinguna
      @golfinguna 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Time and time again I see others stating exactly the same as you have and it seems likely that you and them are just repeating what McDougall and a few others have told people during these videos. I tend to dissect videos when I watch them. If there are thousands of cases as you stated, then why is there no record of these events. Surely such events as the cures these guys are claiming to have done. would be front page news. Sorry but it does not ring true for me.

    Went vegan on August 24, 2017 and haven't looked back. Down almost 80 pounds and haven't 'dieted' one day! I eat beans, veggies, fruit and complex carbohydrates when I'm hungry. The change in me was so drastic, that my 'meat and potatoes' husband decided to try it on January 1, 2018. He's still vegan and plans on being so, (as do I) for the rest of our lives. My husband's A1C dropped from 7.5 to 6 in less than 6 months! Just stop and think about that! Anyone that understands A1C will tell you that this is drastic!
    This gentleman and Dr. Esselstyn's work has added years to my husband's and my life! Dr. Campbell's story about his mother in law lets me know what a good heart he and his family have. LOVE him and Dr. Esselstyn!

I read " The China Study" in 2010, was totally convinced, and have been following WFPB diet since , my health has been turned around for the best ( from took 8 Rx drugs to now taking none- not even Tylenol ) . I cannot praise Dr. Campbell enough for his brilliance , integrity and compassion for the goodness of mankind. If people don't take heed to follow his ideas and reasons to adapt to " plant based whole food, " after listening to this lecture, they are not serious about their health , and have to endure all the ill consequences of the SAD ( Standard American Diet) like millions of people around the world even with the best health insurance.

    Here's my critic. I love him by the way his work and the research of others convinced me to go vegan. 80-10-10 doesn't let you eat other filling nuttiest dense foods. Nuts, seeds, beans, fatty fruits like avocados, etcetera can all be part of a healthy diet. Obviously you don't eat a cup of nuts like you would oats. But I put a TB in my oats every morning with 2 prices of fruit, cocoa, vanilla, and a TB of chia seeds. These fatty foods keep you filling full and have lots of nutrients you can't get from food that are mostly carbs. My macros tend to be 60% carbs, 30% fat, and 10% protein. I haven't found any long term 80-10-10 diet studies and my diet works best for me. From what I've learned through reading studies and long as you're eating whole plant food and not too many calories you're fine.

    Stomach cancer seems most correlated with pickled/preserved foods. The Japanese traditional diet, with its large quantities of tsukemono, results in the highest gastric cancer rates in the industrialized world.
    Minger noted a correlation (not causation) between greens and stomach cancer in the China Study. If the highest greens intake by rural chinese was by those who depended on preserved foods for winter meals (eating local, no refrigeration), that might account for the gastric cancer.

    Adam, I'm eating a paleo diet with meat, poultry, fish, veggies, tubers, berries, fruits, nuts and seeds.
    I'm wonderfully healthy. =)
    Thank you for your advice, I realize you're trying to be helpful, but I don't need a new diet. The one I have is working perfectly.

    No one is actually suggesting the data is false, what's false is the conclusions drawn from it. In fact, that's the best part about Minger's review- she's quoting the ACTUAL data that Campbells provides and showing the reader that Campbell's conclusions aren't supported by it. The data itself supports whole food diets that include meat, as ideal. The DATA.

    "CHO restriction mimics the metabolic state of calorie restriction or - in the case of KDs (ketogenic diets) - fasting. The beneficial effects of calorie restriction and fasting on cancer risk and progression are well established. CHO restriction thus opens the possibility to target the same underlying mechanisms without the side-effects of hunger and weight loss.”

    I eat meat and MY diet is plant based.
    And as I pointed out (and cited), in cultures where health-related reasons for eliminating meat are eliminated, it is vegetarians with higher 'atherogenic and cancer' rates. This pretty clearly demonstrates that it isn't the removal of meat from the diet but rather the OTHER changes in diet & lifestyle (ie fitness, whole food, no smoking/drinking) that improve health.

    I am also A neg. That is rather unfortunate, because no only are both documentaries based ENTIRELY on science, but show quite clearly how we have been able to cure ALL diseases with raw plant based diets for a long time. Nor am I in ANY way trying to change your diet at all. If what you are doing works for you, then please continue to do so! I just do not like seein other thinking their diet is superior to anothers.

    Question for Dr Campbell or anyone who knows?? Is oatmeal a good plant food to eat? Organic of course. Last night I heard Dr Joel Wallach talking on the radio and he said don’t eat oats! I think he also says avoid gluten and wheat, barley, rye and oats. He also recommends taking tons of vitamin and mineral supplements. My main question is Oatmeal?? Thanks.

    • @JohnBauman-h6d
      @JohnBauman-h6d 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure why Wallach is against oat but I assume too much carbs? so eat thin oat meal might be the solution. I never eat any supplements. it might make you feel good short term but I do not believe it is good for you long term? It's like inhale oxygen. it can help you if you really have trouble breath (in most case those people are dying) but does it do any good for a healthy person?

      Hmmm I know oats are *naturally* GF but the processing is often done in the same factories as wheat so if you have celiac or gluten sensitivity, you gotta make sure to get GF oats.
      I’m not sure the reasoning behind avoiding oats as it’s a whole food.

    Aww, that's really kind, thank you. Please tell her to send me a message here and we can correspond by email. There may not be anything she can do to make it grow longer. Terminal length is different for everyone and depends on how long the active growth cycle is. Sometimes you can get the hair to grow faster WHILE it's in the active stage, but I'd be happy to correspond with her about it or maybe IM.

    This is one of Campbell's OWN studies!
    J Nutr. 1972 Jan;102(1):53-60 | Effect of protein deprivation of male weanling rats on the kinetics of hepatic microsomal enzyme activity
    "A deficiency of dietary protein was shown to increase the toxicity of aflatoxin for rats.” ~Campbell
    Typically a healthy rat will double it’s body weight to 100g in 2 years (and the 20% group did), but the 5% protein group only reached 75 grams. The low protein group also developed fatty livers.

    @ThePaleoHuntress 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think Campbell is referencing them by VOLUME rather than by macro content. And since most whole food contains some water, it makes sense.

    Plant foods are all around us, and it was likely a huge portion of paleolithic man's diet. Of course, variable upon climate and where they lived. People living in Southern France (A refugium during the Ice age) had access to lots of pine nuts, Acorns, Grass seed grains, cattails, and purslane. Agriculture did not pop out of a vaccumm, they likely domesticated foods they already ate a lot.

    Again, i will emphasize that Grains were regionally locked, and generally eaten widely by hunters from the Levant. Hunters in New GIneua developed totally different starch staples, such as Sago palm or Taro roots. I would actually argue that Wheat and other grains offer a large nutritional and land use advantage over other cultures starch staples- IE. I agree with Jared Diamond's conjecture on the nutritional advantages of these cultures.

    I do not buy health insurance at the age of 66. I use the saved money to live a healthy life style. I only eat stuff harvested from the fields and waters, not from a factory. I ended up saving money and healthier.

    Saponins, phytic acid, tannins and protease inhibitors in quinoa seeds | Food Chemistry, Volume 48, Issue 2, 1993, Pages 137-143
    After scrubbing and washing, the level of saponin-A remaining in the seeds decreased to 0·31%"
    The content of phytic acid in the quinoa seeds was about 1% of the dry matter, and scrubbing and washing reduced the phytic acid content of the seeds by about 30%.
    -
    So even after washing AND scrubbing, quinoa retains 1/3 of the saponins and 2/3 of the phytic acid.

And even though Savory’s Grazing Trials took place during a period of freakishly high rainfall, with rates exceeding the average by 24 percent overall, the authors contend that Savory’s method “failed to produce the marked improvement in grass cover claimed from its application.”

    There are so many more factors that go into this debate between Paleo and Vegan diets. Blood type, excercise, types of plants consumed, types of animals consumed, and many many others... To say that one is better than the other is the wrong argument to make. However, there is no question that IF you are to eat meat, you are much better off eating small game (rabbits, cornish game hens, etc...) as well as shell fish/seafood. Also, I do not care who you are, nuts and legumes beans are so healthy.

    Participants had lower inflammation markers, triglycerides and cholesterol than those in the vegan study. They also had better fasting glucose and insulin sensitivity. You can of course make all the predictions you like, you can sneer at others in the exclusively vegan way too, but paleo beats vegan in every way measurable- even in the quality and attitudes of its people.

    Voles are only one of the animals that live in row crop fields, so the death toll is much higher-
    “Oregon, montane vole densities ranged from 200 to 500 per acre (500 to 1,250/ha) and may have reached 4,000 per acre (10,000/ha).”
    “The mowing alone caused a 50% decline in gray-tailed vole population.” ~John M. O’Brien, Center for Wildlife Damage Management
    That's up to 2000 lives/acre. I don't eat row crops. But I do eat pastured beef. It takes ONE life for my protein. Fewer lives for Paleo.

Anyway, it turns out that the new format for TH-cam allows uploading still shots to your channel! But it'll have to wait until I get back from work. So now we don't need to trade insults anymore, problem is solved.
