The Grimoire Card for Monté Carlo says it was originally a Showroom gun, meaning it was just meant to be put in a plaque and shown off to your friends at this marvelous gun. It wasn't meant to be thrown around, shoved around in corridors, and taken through a rain of bullets and lasers. That really killed it for me with the Monté Carlo. But Red Death's one says it literally WANTS to kill Guardians. It said in the extended Grimoire that a Guardian once heard a voice inside their head and it told them to "Shoot that Guardian". They did, like they were possessed. The Vanguard then placed a warrant on anyone who knew a location of a Red Death or has one should destroy it on sight. "It is a Guardian killer."

Monte Carlo, Universal Remote, Necrochasm and Alpha Lupi Titan chest is all the exotics I'm missing from having them all. Funny thing is, I don't even want any of thoses, They will sit on my vault unused like so many other boring pointless exotic pieces that my legendaries are better than. Bungie needs to come up with some better Exotics, I doubt House of Wolves will have any.... Maybe the Comet expansion will.

Bungie did the worst job at balancing weapons I've ever seen. When I moved on from this game to advanced warfare, I thought their weapon balance was AMAZING! But after a month, I realized that it was amazing, but only when you compare it to this shitty weapon balancing in destiny. FUCK this game sucks.
The thing is there are not 2 archetypes of Auto Rifle, but 3 : - Slow rate of fire, high impact : SUROS Regime, Shadow Price, etc.. - Medium rate of fire, medium impact : Monte Carlo, Up For Anything, etc.. - High rate of fire, low impact : Hard Light, Atheon's Epilogue, etc..
Wow this is all wrong... Suros Regime with Focused Fire is slower than any auto rifle. Hard Light and Monte Carlo have the EXACT same damage and fire rate. Slow rate of fire, high impact: Shadow Price, Vanquisher VIII, etc. Medium rate of fire, medium impact: Hard Light, Monte Carlo, Up For Anything, etc. High rate of fire, low impact: Necrochasm, Atheon's Epilogue, etc.
ThunderStorm He's not all wrong, there are three archetypes. The focus fire perk's effect depends on the archetype, so it's not like it overrides it completely. Up For Anything with focus fire will still fire faster than Suros Regime with focus fire, for example, and the damage will scale appropriately.
ThunderStorm SuperBeanSquad When talking about the Regime, I was talking about the one you get out of the box, without any perk. This one has the pattern of the Shadow Price.
For every defender Titan out there. Get this weapon. It will be your wet dream. If you got this weapon fully upgraded and using the No Backup Plan exotic. You will always have you meele ability ready. Force Barrier will be your best friend becausd it will last for like 25 seconds and the cooldown on the meele is between 10-15 seconds. Double HP is underrated. You will be a tank in PvP and PvE.
Why does evrybody mentions the impact??? I mean the fire rate makes up for it perfectly! I think this category of auto rifles are the best, for example the up for anything is the same fire rate impact type of gun and i have gotten 50+ kills in control. the kill time is about 1 second when getting the headshot.
In all honesty, you wouldn't ever actually use this unless you have some melee related bounty considering that there are guns like icebreaker and thorn that you probably already have by now
To give my honest opinion. I find the Monte Carlo to be one of my favourite PVP weapons. First i'd like the point out that the weapon is very fun to use and the kills do roll in quite fast. At first I thought it would be another Atheon's Epilogue etc. but this gun is truly a great weapon as I feel it does "more" damage than the stats show. However what I love about this weapon is the close range versatility. One of my armour pieces gives me a quicker melee attack speed while my helm make my grenades produce faster grenade energy. This makes it so I constantly have scorch active, with the shield that pops up after every melee. Regardless of class this is a very fun weapon to use, and I would recommend everyone who has it, drop Suros and use the Monte. Also I find, for that type of weapon, that the range is actually not that bad, as I am able to sometimes kill enemies at quite a distance! Great Review.... Now I must get a Hawkmoon ahaha!
The weapons stats are more comparable to 'Hard Light' than weapons like Atheons Epilogue. Atheons Epilogue (and others like it) have a very low impact of 2 compared with Monte Carlo and Hard Lights 8 - 4x higher. Its why it does more damage per shot.

charlesandjulien I honestly can't comment on the Monte Carlo as I play on XB1 so have no first hand experience. Its perks though don't appeal as much and it seems less stable as Hard Light has stability perks but no doubt I will be able to make my own judgement as and when it comes to xbox...
ah hawkmoon if only you would drop if only destiny had loot priortization (so your most used gun type is the one that will drop most) then I wouldn't be stuck with a exotic auto rifle a sniper and a rocket launcher all of which I didn't need since im a cqc-midrange support guy using lastword with plug 1 or invective and the chance but no of course it drops the 3 gun types I never use
I don't know if its the Gunslinger's Trance kicking in, but I find that this gun is actually usable with Aggressive Ballistics. On the Hard Light it adds a lot of view kick however the view kick on the Monte Carlo is very minimal from hand testing. Also the recoil is very predictable and easy to manage even when I don't prock GT. If you have the Monte Carlo and you use Smart Drift Control go ahead and try Aggressive Ballistics. Considering the Auto Rifle nerf every extra point of Impact matters.
I know you guys aren't game developers, but I'm curious how guys would design weapons for a game like Destiny. Would you have a close quarters gun like Monte Carlo do so little damage/shot? Maybe you could give some more input on weapon design in your next podcast.
Some of the best guns in the game almost have their own personality and character. Last Word, and Thorn are two examples. Even though their stats are near identical they have entirely different playstyles associated with them. Taking that into account, I'd try to design something around the perks that are already in the game. For example take the Life Support perk that reloads 50% of mag and increases reload speed by 150% when you are below 20% health. This is widely considered a useless perk. Doing something as simple as adding that perk to a weapon that has an exotic perk of "Do more damage the lower your health is." would instantly causes that weapon to have tons of character. People would be doing different builds to lower their recovery to keep that weapon buff up longer, and people would actively be trying to take small bits of damage. In the case of Monte Carlo, I really feel like the perks are just lost on an auto rifle. They really feel like they would work better on a secondary like a fusion rifle or shotgun where you are actually in situations where you can use your melee attack. Sorry for the long post. Interesting topic, I will add it to the possibilities of discussions on the podcast.

My first exotic was Fourth Horseman which is great to devastate those public event kill targets and any high level major. My second exotic was Monte Carlo which I loved a lot. Mostly because of the sword. My third exotic was Hawkmoon. I then felt I was getting a pattern. I got all Playstation exclusive exotics. My fourth exotic was Dragon's Breath. Not bad really. I found out that your first opening of the queens chest in PoE (playing first time each character) will guarantee a exotic.
Bladedancers = Neverending Blink Strikes Gunslingers + Gambler's Dagger = Unlimited throwing knives (especially with the precision kills perk active) Warlocks can have their Energy Drain or Sunsingers can have their Flame Shields up most of the time. Titans...can keep punching things effectively.
Weapons like For The People have a higher kill time than high impact auto rifles like Shadow Price and Vanquisher. FTP deals 20 precision while SP deals 27 precision. FTP has REALLY high stability too, and as long as you land precision shots, you will kill faster than if you were using a SP.
Totaly agree with you. I am using Monte Carlo with Ahamkara claws and have my melee almost always charged. This helps me a lot in PvP. Never tried aggressive ballistics before, but will test it for sure. Thx for rewiew.
I think this gun still needs a stability buff to be truly viable. It's an Exotc, it really should outperform most Legendary Auto Rifles, and this one simply doesn't. I think in general, the Exotic AR's are weak.
SuperBeanSquad I've used the SUROS, it's good, but outclassed by many Exotics both in PvP and PvE. But i was mainly talking about Monte Carlo, Hard Light and Necrochasm

As a new Monte Carlo owner, I'll say this: Smart Drift vs. Aggressive Ballistics are your GOOD barrel options. Pick Aggressive if you prefer mid-short ranges, no questions asked. Otherwise, Smart Drift allows for a shockingly high effective range while not being too shabby up close. This gun can work almost effortlessly, and in PvP you're not exactly going to try and abuse its melee CD unless you're a Gunslinger, so it's okay to be set up for wider engagement ranges. This is not a high RoF AR, it is a middling RoF gun. People just like to say it's "high RoF" because they're used to either Hand Cannons, Scout Rifles, or ADS SUROS Regime.
What if they made Auto-rifles and Pulse-rifles rather similar, by *making their damage numbers and rate of fire basically the same,* only the burst is different. At the moment, a low-impact Pulse-rifle *does the same damage as* Suros, which fires *drastically much slower.* If they *tune dow rate of fire* and make the *impact in-line with Pulse-rifle,* could be fair. That means the *Suros* should deal *34-36 damage crit, in-line with Red Death.* *Monte Carlo/Hard Light* should deal *27 damage crit, in-line with Bad Juju.* I think this would be balanced, since Pulse-rifles will kill more easily since they can just 2-3 burst to the head. Besides, this was a thing *before 1.1.1* which I think was the most balanced time for Crucible, excluding Pulse-rifles.
Try this: Warlock Voidwalker Obsidian Mind Helmet Soul Rip Monte Carlo. You'll be able to spam charged melees on weaker enemies, VERY rapidly filling up your super, and your super in itself will go a long way to charge up the next Nova Bomb. That's how I roll my Warlock, works wonders

I disagree a little with this review. While I've never used Hard Light before, placing Monte Carlo in the same category as "those" kinds of auto rifles doesn't do it justice. Monte Carlo, for me, is the "odd one" out. It has a high rate of fire similar to weapons like Hard Light, but its stability, range, and accuracy closely resembles auto rifles like For The People, which one of the "usable" auto rifles. My review: Monte Carlo is a great weapon for PVP and a very nice weapon for PVE. Suros Regime and other similar Auto rifles would still probably outclass it, but if you have it and you don't have Suros then it's an amazing weapon to use.
When I got this weapon everyone told me that it was useless, but they were wrong. The class that you play and what you're trying to do really defines how to use this weapon. Consider the first section of Crota's End as a Titan Defender. Hundreds of Thralls around, what do you do while they close in? Get a few precision shots at medium range and get that melee charged. As they approach from medium range to close range, get out your shotgun and dominate with melee and shotgun damage. So neat, you cleared them out? Get out your Monte Carlo, get a few more precision shots and do it again. This weapon is fantastic while looking for Lanterns underground because it eliminates your need to have any STR in your build, while allowing you to brush off swarms of enemies. And that is the true power of this gun. It's for PvE, build your armor with little to no STRength and cackle maniacally while punching through low level mobs and sing a song about how much the Hive love you. It's all about playstyle and being able to Hulk Smash through low level enemies is the highest level of fun for me :)
This is honestly my favourite gun, and being a Warlock with that Energy Drain just makes it even more exciting to use. Yeah, its damage is horrible and sucks most of the time *but when there's small arms* I take it out of the vault and rekt dem fullen. It needs an impact increase though, maybe make it in-line with Bad Juju where it deals about 25-27 per headshot, so only *8 well-placed shots* which is difficult to do.
This actually looks really good for Titans with the right specs. Defenders can have their Force Barrier going almost continuously because of the recharge, along with any benefits from Force Barrier staying for longer. Strikers like myself can couple it with the Super Recharge from Storm Fist to be launching out Fists of Panic all day, be it in PvE or PvP. Mix it with Helm of Inmost Light, and you have possibly the best Striker loadout, and a solid one for Solo Defenders
I got a 100% Discipline + Intellect build out of Crota's End (100+ Intellect gauntlets + chest piece and 100+ Gloves + Apotheosis Veil), so I can't state how awesome enough this gun is for me, I no longer rely on having some Strength in my build and my grenade/Nova Bomb regen is off the roof. It is a magnificent gun, but it does depend a lot on your build to be effective.
I hope i dont get any haters for disagreeing with u on this one. Ifs usually depends on how the person who has it uses it. Monte Carlo for me is pretty bad ass in all my classes. Warlock, Hunter, Titan. Even if the weapon does have a low impact it covers that with a very high rate of fire. In my POV I've killed at least 20 to 25 thx to my monte carlo. Sometimes it doesnt kill, but thts why u have a shotgun in hand or ur melee. Your explanation and review was awesome. But I'm gonna have to disagree with u on this one. Monte Carlo is very useful on PvP and PvE. Most of any and every weapon just depends on well the user can.... Use it.
Every time Planet Destiny reviews an Exotic Auto Rifle, I always hear "stability over damage." It's an Auto Rifle, having a small increase of damage to every bullet increases the effectiveness by a lot more than you would think. If you could actually aim with weapons, you wouldn't have a problem with any stability loss. In this video, your aim was all over the place, so I can see why YOU would need to have good stability, but remember that people can actually aim with their weapons.
"The perks allow for some customization -- Then you can up your magazine size to 56" I saw this video and got hyped, I wanted a big magazine / fast fire rate Auto rifle that was exotic. So I farmed it, and got it, and they took that away. You can't increase the magazine size now, only the total ammo you carry with it.
Moreconsole described this as a *"Trophy Gun"*. It Looks Cool & has decent performance. Personally, I'm more of an auto rifle kind of guy. So I'll make better use of it when it's out for the Xbox this next autumn.
Subpar? This is my favorite gun in the whole game, but it's been eluding me for months now...until I found it on my last attempt of the nightfall yesterday. I've been ripping guardians to shreds in crucible ever since. It's not the most powerful, but the Monte Carlo is a beautiful gun that goes above and beyond getting the job done.
I appreciate how open you remain about it being potentially good in certain players hands whereas other reviewers will just say "It's bad i don't use it, you shouldn't use it ever it's just bad". I for one would use Monte for Osiris when the map was too small for Bad JuJu because I was able to just dominate with it, so it's nice that you acknowledge that some people can use it well despite being not that great.
This is actually one of my favorite ARs. Not the best, but it good. I don't see why some people say it sucks, because it does not. If you get it, use it. It does well in bought PvP and PvE. I get 30+ kills in PvP a lot with this.
Wonder what this is like with a hunter that has Gamblers Dagger(+1 knife), and knife juggler... Enough practice and could spend alot of time mainly using throwing knives?
I think people give the high rate of fire and low impact rifles a little too much hate. I loved my Shadow Price, and Up For Anything isn't the best replacement for it. But once you start using these kinds of rifles you get the hang of it.
Is there any TH-camr that just knows how to compensate for a small lack of stability with automatics in this game? It just seems like "Max out stability is the only way" is something I hear to often when it's not hard to just correct your shots. Either that or all Destiny TH-camrs (at least the ones that make exotic reviews) just generally suck with auto rifles.
Just got this from the Vault of Glass yesterday and, all I can say is it competes with my Suros even un-upgraded but, maybe this gun just isn't that great with people who don't have marksman like aiming.
holy fuck, this+ gloves of ahamkara sounds so sick! cant wait when it comes on xbone. for me the best way to use autorifles is to treat them the same as a fusion rifle, getting pretty close to your enemy (in PvP) just wreaks everything
One of the main issues Destiny faces at the moment is that PVP is primarily dominated by Hand cannons. Pulse rifles and scout rifles are a joke when going up against a Last word or Hawkmoon. I wish Bungie would address this issue.
Assuming that ARs are buffed by the time that Taken King releases, pairing this weapon with the Nightstlker smoke could be incredibly powerful for Trials and other pvp activities.

For all those whiners out there Monte Carlo is beast as fuck. Got it last night it's a fucking monster in the crucible. I personally think it's better than the Suros by a large margin. Plus I prevailed unbroken twice in row with it. I love it.
When I first got this weapon from a Nightfall drop I was skeptical about keeping it. So many of the people I ran with at the time said it was a shit weapon. I almost disassembled it, but I decided to keep it. I am glad I did. For my Warlock this autorifle has been nothing short of awesome. I like to use my Melee when I get into tight or intense situations and it is nice to have the ability to lower my cool down times or even replenish my Melee ability instantly. Now I am not saying this weapon is the best or for everyone, but it is definitely worth trying it out if you ever get it for the first time. it suits me very well for the way I play and it has gotten me out of a lot of shit in the past.
I just got this from crucible. Honestly this thing is a beast so far. I brought it to rumble for a couple matches with just hipfire and i won every match by a huge margin. Even got a sum of all tears with it. Personally i cannot wait to use this on my warlock or hunter with throwing knives.
It is ok wep. But i hate having 5 in a row.. Already got 331 on it But every time i found exotic it is this one. Idont know if its bug it glitch,, but 5 monte carlo in a row?!!

This gun + hunter class melee set to invisibility + invisibility last longer ALSO Bladedancer set to invisibility (use for the bridge) makes the first part of Crota end a walk in the park
The sound it makes when the Monte Carlo perk activates sounds like a sped up version of the sound that it makes when you kill someone in the Crucible. Also, the Monte Carlo gives off the look of a gambler. Same with the name.
It would be cool if the blade gave you extra melee damage, a la Borderlands. However as it is it doesn't excite me too much, so I'm not that disappointed that I can't get it as an XB1 player.
monte carlo was such a great gun in pvp before the first patch of guns long shot, great damage now i just take a whole clip with precision shot to kill one enemy unless is my game that is fuck up...
Looks pretty good for hunters with the throwing knives but not for titans and warlocks it would be better if it had a unique melee where you have a slightly bigger range and damage on melee and use the bayonet, that or if it shot out a knife like the hunter on all classes like an underbarrel knife launcher

hey i have monte carlo and it has 334 damage without any upgrades and as i calculated it goes up to 369 damage on full upgrade the weapon is better now because of the update of the game.
Man with auto rifles learn to work on recoil control so you don't need the stability buffs, aggressive ballistics do help, and send it is a must for headshot crits
I've used all 3 and I have to say hard light is best for PvE and suros for PvP that's just my opinion monte is a bit mediocre it's good but not that good
Use it with the arms and the extra knife perk from hunter and you got 3 melee slots with this weapon it basically means you always have a knife to throw.

Bungie did the worst job at balancing weapons I've ever seen. When I moved on from this game to advanced warfare, I thought their weapon balance was AMAZING! But after a month, I realized that it was amazing, but only when you compare it to this shitty weapon balancing in destiny. FUCK this game sucks.

The thing is there are not 2 archetypes of Auto Rifle, but 3 :
- Slow rate of fire, high impact : SUROS Regime, Shadow Price, etc..
- Medium rate of fire, medium impact : Monte Carlo, Up For Anything, etc..
- High rate of fire, low impact : Hard Light, Atheon's Epilogue, etc..
Wow this is all wrong... Suros Regime with Focused Fire is slower than any auto rifle. Hard Light and Monte Carlo have the EXACT same damage and fire rate.

Medium rate of fire, medium impact: Hard Light, Monte Carlo, Up For Anything, etc.
High rate of fire, low impact: Necrochasm, Atheon's Epilogue, etc.

ThunderStorm He's not all wrong, there are three archetypes. The focus fire perk's effect depends on the archetype, so it's not like it overrides it completely. Up For Anything with focus fire will still fire faster than Suros Regime with focus fire, for example, and the damage will scale appropriately.

For every defender Titan out there. Get this weapon. It will be your wet dream.
If you got this weapon fully upgraded and using the No Backup Plan exotic. You will always have you meele ability ready.
Force Barrier will be your best friend becausd it will last for like 25 seconds and the cooldown on the meele is between 10-15 seconds. Double HP is underrated. You will be a tank in PvP and PvE.
The Monte Carlo makes me feel like a God in the crusible. Jut aim it on the face of the enemy then hold R2. Behold the fallen guardian.

Why does evrybody mentions the impact??? I mean the fire rate makes up for it perfectly! I think this category of auto rifles are the best, for example the up for anything is the same fire rate impact type of gun and i have gotten 50+ kills in control. the kill time is about 1 second when getting the headshot.
In all honesty, you wouldn't ever actually use this unless you have some melee related bounty considering that there are guns like icebreaker and thorn that you probably already have by now
at first i didnt like it.. but its pretty damn stable for its high fire rate. not bad for crucible wouldnt recommend for pve though

To give my honest opinion. I find the Monte Carlo to be one of my favourite PVP weapons. First i'd like the point out that the weapon is very fun to use and the kills do roll in quite fast. At first I thought it would be another Atheon's Epilogue etc. but this gun is truly a great weapon as I feel it does "more" damage than the stats show. However what I love about this weapon is the close range versatility. One of my armour pieces gives me a quicker melee attack speed while my helm make my grenades produce faster grenade energy. This makes it so I constantly have scorch active, with the shield that pops up after every melee. Regardless of class this is a very fun weapon to use, and I would recommend everyone who has it, drop Suros and use the Monte. Also I find, for that type of weapon, that the range is actually not that bad, as I am able to sometimes kill enemies at quite a distance!

The weapons stats are more comparable to 'Hard Light' than weapons like Atheons Epilogue. Atheons Epilogue (and others like it) have a very low impact of 2 compared with Monte Carlo and Hard Lights 8 - 4x higher. Its why it does more damage per shot.

charlesandjulien I honestly can't comment on the Monte Carlo as I play on XB1 so have no first hand experience. Its perks though don't appeal as much and it seems less stable as Hard Light has stability perks but no doubt I will be able to make my own judgement as and when it comes to xbox...
ah hawkmoon if only you would drop if only destiny had loot priortization (so your most used gun type is the one that will drop most) then I wouldn't be stuck with a exotic auto rifle a sniper and a rocket launcher all of which I didn't need since im a cqc-midrange support guy using lastword with plug 1 or invective and the chance but no of course it drops the 3 gun types I never use
I don't know if its the Gunslinger's Trance kicking in, but I find that this gun is actually usable with Aggressive Ballistics. On the Hard Light it adds a lot of view kick however the view kick on the Monte Carlo is very minimal from hand testing. Also the recoil is very predictable and easy to manage even when I don't prock GT. If you have the Monte Carlo and you use Smart Drift Control go ahead and try Aggressive Ballistics. Considering the Auto Rifle nerf every extra point of Impact matters.

I know you guys aren't game developers, but I'm curious how guys would design weapons for a game like Destiny. Would you have a close quarters gun like Monte Carlo do so little damage/shot? Maybe you could give some more input on weapon design in your next podcast.
Some of the best guns in the game almost have their own personality and character. Last Word, and Thorn are two examples. Even though their stats are near identical they have entirely different playstyles associated with them.
Taking that into account, I'd try to design something around the perks that are already in the game. For example take the Life Support perk that reloads 50% of mag and increases reload speed by 150% when you are below 20% health. This is widely considered a useless perk. Doing something as simple as adding that perk to a weapon that has an exotic perk of "Do more damage the lower your health is." would instantly causes that weapon to have tons of character. People would be doing different builds to lower their recovery to keep that weapon buff up longer, and people would actively be trying to take small bits of damage.
In the case of Monte Carlo, I really feel like the perks are just lost on an auto rifle. They really feel like they would work better on a secondary like a fusion rifle or shotgun where you are actually in situations where you can use your melee attack.

My first exotic was Fourth Horseman which is great to devastate those public event kill targets and any high level major.
My second exotic was Monte Carlo which I loved a lot. Mostly because of the sword.
My third exotic was Hawkmoon. I then felt I was getting a pattern. I got all Playstation exclusive exotics.
My fourth exotic was Dragon's Breath. Not bad really.
I found out that your first opening of the queens chest in PoE (playing first time each character) will guarantee a exotic.
Bladedancers = Neverending Blink Strikes
Gunslingers + Gambler's Dagger = Unlimited throwing knives (especially with the precision kills perk active)
Warlocks can have their Energy Drain or Sunsingers can have their Flame Shields up most of the time.
Titans...can keep punching things effectively.
Weapons like For The People have a higher kill time than high impact auto rifles like Shadow Price and Vanquisher. FTP deals 20 precision while SP deals 27 precision. FTP has REALLY high stability too, and as long as you land precision shots, you will kill faster than if you were using a SP.

Totaly agree with you. I am using Monte Carlo with Ahamkara claws and have my melee almost always charged. This helps me a lot in PvP. Never tried aggressive ballistics before, but will test it for sure. Thx for rewiew.
I think this gun still needs a stability buff to be truly viable. It's an Exotc, it really should outperform most Legendary Auto Rifles, and this one simply doesn't. I think in general, the Exotic AR's are weak.
Then you haven't used the Suros. It's the only AR worth a damn.

As a new Monte Carlo owner, I'll say this: Smart Drift vs. Aggressive Ballistics are your GOOD barrel options. Pick Aggressive if you prefer mid-short ranges, no questions asked. Otherwise, Smart Drift allows for a shockingly high effective range while not being too shabby up close. This gun can work almost effortlessly, and in PvP you're not exactly going to try and abuse its melee CD unless you're a Gunslinger, so it's okay to be set up for wider engagement ranges.
This is not a high RoF AR, it is a middling RoF gun. People just like to say it's "high RoF" because they're used to either Hand Cannons, Scout Rifles, or ADS SUROS Regime.

What if they made Auto-rifles and Pulse-rifles rather similar, by *making their damage numbers and rate of fire basically the same,* only the burst is different.
At the moment, a low-impact Pulse-rifle *does the same damage as* Suros, which fires *drastically much slower.* If they *tune dow rate of fire* and make the *impact in-line with Pulse-rifle,* could be fair.
That means the *Suros* should deal *34-36 damage crit, in-line with Red Death.*
*Monte Carlo/Hard Light* should deal *27 damage crit, in-line with Bad Juju.*
I think this would be balanced, since Pulse-rifles will kill more easily since they can just 2-3 burst to the head. Besides, this was a thing *before 1.1.1* which I think was the most balanced time for Crucible, excluding Pulse-rifles.

Voidwalker
Obsidian Mind Helmet
Soul Rip
Monte Carlo.
You'll be able to spam charged melees on weaker enemies, VERY rapidly filling up your super, and your super in itself will go a long way to charge up the next Nova Bomb.

I disagree a little with this review. While I've never used Hard Light before, placing Monte Carlo in the same category as "those" kinds of auto rifles doesn't do it justice. Monte Carlo, for me, is the "odd one" out. It has a high rate of fire similar to weapons like Hard Light, but its stability, range, and accuracy closely resembles auto rifles like For The People, which one of the "usable" auto rifles.
My review: Monte Carlo is a great weapon for PVP and a very nice weapon for PVE. Suros Regime and other similar Auto rifles would still probably outclass it, but if you have it and you don't have Suros then it's an amazing weapon to use.
When I got this weapon everyone told me that it was useless, but they were wrong. The class that you play and what you're trying to do really defines how to use this weapon.
Consider the first section of Crota's End as a Titan Defender. Hundreds of Thralls around, what do you do while they close in? Get a few precision shots at medium range and get that melee charged. As they approach from medium range to close range, get out your shotgun and dominate with melee and shotgun damage. So neat, you cleared them out? Get out your Monte Carlo, get a few more precision shots and do it again. This weapon is fantastic while looking for Lanterns underground because it eliminates your need to have any STR in your build, while allowing you to brush off swarms of enemies. And that is the true power of this gun. It's for PvE, build your armor with little to no STRength and cackle maniacally while punching through low level mobs and sing a song about how much the Hive love you.
It's all about playstyle and being able to Hulk Smash through low level enemies is the highest level of fun for me :)
This is honestly my favourite gun, and being a Warlock with that Energy Drain just makes it even more exciting to use. Yeah, its damage is horrible and sucks most of the time *but when there's small arms* I take it out of the vault and rekt dem fullen.
It needs an impact increase though, maybe make it in-line with Bad Juju where it deals about 25-27 per headshot, so only *8 well-placed shots* which is difficult to do.
This actually looks really good for Titans with the right specs. Defenders can have their Force Barrier going almost continuously because of the recharge, along with any benefits from Force Barrier staying for longer. Strikers like myself can couple it with the Super Recharge from Storm Fist to be launching out Fists of Panic all day, be it in PvE or PvP. Mix it with Helm of Inmost Light, and you have possibly the best Striker loadout, and a solid one for Solo Defenders
I got a 100% Discipline + Intellect build out of Crota's End (100+ Intellect gauntlets + chest piece and 100+ Gloves + Apotheosis Veil), so I can't state how awesome enough this gun is for me, I no longer rely on having some Strength in my build and my grenade/Nova Bomb regen is off the roof. It is a magnificent gun, but it does depend a lot on your build to be effective.
I just got this gun off a crucible drop (yeah its possible) Not as good as the sandwich.

I hope i dont get any haters for disagreeing with u on this one. Ifs usually depends on how the person who has it uses it. Monte Carlo for me is pretty bad ass in all my classes. Warlock, Hunter, Titan. Even if the weapon does have a low impact it covers that with a very high rate of fire. In my POV I've killed at least 20 to 25 thx to my monte carlo. Sometimes it doesnt kill, but thts why u have a shotgun in hand or ur melee. Your explanation and review was awesome. But I'm gonna have to disagree with u on this one. Monte Carlo is very useful on PvP and PvE. Most of any and every weapon just depends on well the user can.... Use it.
Every time Planet Destiny reviews an Exotic Auto Rifle, I always hear "stability over damage." It's an Auto Rifle, having a small increase of damage to every bullet increases the effectiveness by a lot more than you would think.
If you could actually aim with weapons, you wouldn't have a problem with any stability loss. In this video, your aim was all over the place, so I can see why YOU would need to have good stability, but remember that people can actually aim with their weapons.

I saw this video and got hyped, I wanted a big magazine / fast fire rate Auto rifle that was exotic. So I farmed it, and got it, and they took that away. You can't increase the magazine size now, only the total ammo you carry with it.
Moreconsole described this as a *"Trophy Gun"*. It Looks Cool & has decent performance. Personally, I'm more of an auto rifle kind of guy. So I'll make better use of it when it's out for the Xbox this next autumn.
Subpar? This is my favorite gun in the whole game, but it's been eluding me for months now...until I found it on my last attempt of the nightfall yesterday. I've been ripping guardians to shreds in crucible ever since. It's not the most powerful, but the Monte Carlo is a beautiful gun that goes above and beyond getting the job done.

I appreciate how open you remain about it being potentially good in certain players hands whereas other reviewers will just say "It's bad i don't use it, you shouldn't use it ever it's just bad". I for one would use Monte for Osiris when the map was too small for Bad JuJu because I was able to just dominate with it, so it's nice that you acknowledge that some people can use it well despite being not that great.
This is actually one of my favorite ARs. Not the best, but it good. I don't see why some people say it sucks, because it does not. If you get it, use it. It does well in bought PvP and PvE. I get 30+ kills in PvP a lot with this.
Wonder what this is like with a hunter that has Gamblers Dagger(+1 knife), and knife juggler... Enough practice and could spend alot of time mainly using throwing knives?
I think people give the high rate of fire and low impact rifles a little too much hate. I loved my Shadow Price, and Up For Anything isn't the best replacement for it. But once you start using these kinds of rifles you get the hang of it.
Is there any TH-camr that just knows how to compensate for a small lack of stability with automatics in this game?
It just seems like "Max out stability is the only way" is something I hear to often when it's not hard to just correct your shots.
Either that or all Destiny TH-camrs (at least the ones that make exotic reviews) just generally suck with auto rifles.
Just got this from the Vault of Glass yesterday and, all I can say is it competes with my Suros even un-upgraded but, maybe this gun just isn't that great with people who don't have marksman like aiming.

for me the best way to use autorifles is to treat them the same as a fusion rifle, getting pretty close to your enemy (in PvP) just wreaks everything
One of the main issues Destiny faces at the moment is that PVP is primarily dominated by Hand cannons. Pulse rifles and scout rifles are a joke when going up against a Last word or Hawkmoon. I wish Bungie would address this issue.
Assuming that ARs are buffed by the time that Taken King releases, pairing this weapon with the Nightstlker smoke could be incredibly powerful for Trials and other pvp activities.

I think this was meant to be a fusion rifle. The style,hip fire bonus, and Monte Carlo method all seem to be a up-in-your-face kind of play style. They may of thought it would be to op so they changed it. Tell me if you think different and why
For all those whiners out there Monte Carlo is beast as fuck. Got it last night it's a fucking monster in the crucible. I personally think it's better than the Suros by a large margin. Plus I prevailed unbroken twice in row with it. I love it.
When I first got this weapon from a Nightfall drop I was skeptical about keeping it. So many of the people I ran with at the time said it was a shit weapon. I almost disassembled it, but I decided to keep it. I am glad I did. For my Warlock this autorifle has been nothing short of awesome. I like to use my Melee when I get into tight or intense situations and it is nice to have the ability to lower my cool down times or even replenish my Melee ability instantly. Now I am not saying this weapon is the best or for everyone, but it is definitely worth trying it out if you ever get it for the first time. it suits me very well for the way I play and it has gotten me out of a lot of shit in the past.
I just got this from crucible. Honestly this thing is a beast so far. I brought it to rumble for a couple matches with just hipfire and i won every match by a huge margin. Even got a sum of all tears with it. Personally i cannot wait to use this on my warlock or hunter with throwing knives.

This gun + hunter class melee set to invisibility + invisibility last longer ALSO Bladedancer set to invisibility (use for the bridge) makes the first part of Crota end a walk in the park
The sound it makes when the Monte Carlo perk activates sounds like a sped up version of the sound that it makes when you kill someone in the Crucible.
Also, the Monte Carlo gives off the look of a gambler. Same with the name.
It would be cool if the blade gave you extra melee damage, a la Borderlands. However as it is it doesn't excite me too much, so I'm not that disappointed that I can't get it as an XB1 player.

Looks pretty good for hunters with the throwing knives but not for titans and warlocks it would be better if it had a unique melee where you have a slightly bigger range and damage on melee and use the bayonet, that or if it shot out a knife like the hunter on all classes like an underbarrel knife launcher

I pair this with my claws of ahamkara, and i have 60% strength, so i basically have unlimited flame shields. Its a crazy combo, try it out.
Can't wait to get this on xbox, thought it'll probably;y still be like a year until I get it. Unless they let Xur sell it the week it's on xbox as everyone will have a chance then.

hey i have monte carlo and it has 334 damage without any upgrades and as i calculated it goes up to 369 damage on full upgrade the weapon is better now because of the update of the game.

I find this the best auto rifle for PvP for sure.
Man with auto rifles learn to work on recoil control so you don't need the stability buffs, aggressive ballistics do help, and send it is a must for headshot crits
I've used all 3 and I have to say hard light is best for PvE and suros for PvP that's just my opinion monte is a bit mediocre it's good but not that good
i am level 26 and did VoG and got monte carlo in my first time playing VoG, i also got universal control so is that average drop or just lucky
I actually really want this gun. I prefer higher impact lower rate of fire on my guns, but you know how titans love to punch things
Use it with the arms and the extra knife perk from hunter and you got 3 melee slots with this weapon it basically means you always have a knife to throw.
