This is by far the best sniper for the ROC playlist. Fully upgraded this will MELT any boss. Unless you're a extremely accurate sniper this gun is mainly useful for Strikes and some situations in raids.
there is also a similar bug like this for FATEBRINGER, sometimes when you land a precision kill on Fatebringer it does not fasten your reload speed because the explosive rounds prevent that from happening
That's because explosive rounds do damage to the precision AND other areas of the target that survive it. The blast of the explosion makes it look like you got a precision kill, whereas in reality, the precision hit doesn't kill them, and the body shot finishes them off. Trust me, I know. Fatebringer is the only primary I use anymore. My advice: use field scout for that extra mag round and more rounds in reserve.
Interesting note about utilizing the White Nail perk, it counts any shot, no matter if it does damage or not. So, if a Devil Walker has exposed its power core and you fire on its legs, while you do no damage, you will get all of your rounds back.
it actually lights up anytime you pull the trigger, not only when its empty. if you only lightly press the trigger you can let it light up without fireing, just like with handcannons hammer being pulled back but not shooting

The Black Hammer is the Boss killer and not much else in my opinion. Trying and failing to hit three regular enemies in quick succession kills me, even if it would be normal on any other sniper rifle, blame the Icebreaker for that I suppose :P

There is a lot to be said for a legendary Item that powerful. With the drawbacks, I think that is the only thing that sets it apart from the exotics. It leaves you open to have your preferred exotic in another slot, that alone should be a plus for this level of sniper rifle.

I have two and they both have that same problem, i think because hive disruptor has been removed it cant be activated therefore the weapon is not fully ranked up (my thoughts not fact)

So when you max out a weapon or armor, the box gets highlighted with yellow but it doesn't without that perk I guess. So I'm assuming it was getting patched when I got it and that's why I don't have the perk or it just glitched on me and now I'm stuck without it. I switch between the ice breaker black hammer and praedyth revenge as my go to snipers. black hammer is very nice on the strikes. I kill the spider tank in the earth strike so fast now. Way faster than my ice breaker.
Now I have a different question. Which is better black hammer or ldr from the vangaurd. I know all the black hammers perks but the ldr has some pretty nice perks and a much bigger mag size. So should I still use the ldr if I have the black hammer. I haven't bought the ldr yet. Anyone that could help?
For me it's the best sniper you can use in pve. It deals a little more damage than the Icebreaker and i can use my Thorn or Gjallahorn... For pvp there'll be better snipers out there for sure
Efrideet's Spear with the right perks seems like it's better as a general purpose sniper rifle. I have Arc damage, Rodeo, Field Scout, and Firefly. Black Hammer is a monster when taking advantage of the White Nail perk is practical (that is, some enemies are going to be moving too fast, and some can't be hit for crit damage, such as Praetorians or Crota), but the rest of the time I think my Spear would be a better choice. I only recently acquired Black Hammer, so I'll mess around with it some more and see how it performs for me. Icebreaker has some very useful properties as well, most notably sniping from long distance for an extended period of time, which is a situation that does not lend itself well to picking up ammo drops landing far from my location. Icebreaker also charges up the magazine while I'm using another weapon. I can empty the Icebreaker's magazine, fire a rocket or use my primary for awhile, and then when I need my Icebreaker again the magazine is full with no worries about a reload animation. I also use Icebreaker to give me a bit of an agility boost for certain parts of the raids.

If you play it everyday then it would probably be in your best interest. Don't be looking for a deeper story though as it brings little to missions and story.

I understand they wanted to patch the exploits in the Raid but how about fixing the bugs like with this gun and the still numerous bugs in VOG? They care more about fixing the things that make them look like dummies rather than the stuff that the gamers want and need fixed
Its definitely one of them if your planning to use an exotic as your primary or heavy but there are plenty of good ones like P&T (personal favourite) and LDR, Effirets Spear etc

It's not a bug. Cuz if the target lived the precision damage, they can die from the explosion damage afterwards which is not a precision kill

you haven't got hive disruptor because it's not there once they fix the bug and you get it, the weapon will have the gold box around it
