Thanks for short video on fuel tap replacement. What is the idea behind using vaseline at the joint. Would'nt it contaminate the fuel ? I need to check- clean- might replace the fuel tap in my Yamaha RX tank. Is this good to do after fuel tank is cleaned for rust removal? Thanks
Hi mate, Thanks for the message. I use Vaseline to ensure a good seal. This won’t hurt the fuel system whatsoever even if it did enter the fuel tank, it would melt and dissipate inside the tank, causing no harm. Indeed! I’d highly recommend changing it as it also has a very small gauze filter at the end. This is the first means of filtration from the fuel tank to the engine. So whilst it’s apart, for the cost of maybe 100 bucks, it’s worth its weight in gold. You’ll likely find if it’s not replaced, or at least the seal/gasket, it’ll leak and you’ll have to pull the tank out again to seal it. Hope this helps mate, Tomo
Hey mate, have you tried Yamaha? That’s where I found mine. If not, look for an online Yamaha parts catalogue and order them that way. They’re generally fairly self explanatory. I hope this answer helps mate
Good advice there Tomo on the fitting of the fuel tap.
