Local climber/ timber feller in Mendo/Humboldt!! Love seeing these videos and the excitement people get from our trees up here!! Hope to run into you guys in the Garberville area at Milts! 🤙

Another fantastic video. Gordy, your camera work makes it. Good to see Anton more comfortable being filmed and what a fun crew. Can't wait for the next one.
Aside from the amazing skill that you guys demonstrate, one of the most enjoyable things about watching your videos is the comraderie and how much fun you have working together and supporting each other.💪💪💪
I went on vaca to northern cali 15-20 years ago and those redwoods are so impressive. Coming from the east coast, those big trees were just awe inspiring. I suppose like anything, if you live there, they just fade into the normal scenery.
Nice looking trees and awesome felling from you guys!🤠 Your saws sound gives good vibes, better than stock saws just like a good ol v8 versus 4cylinder! 😎👍💪

When I served in the USAF in the early 80's, In No. Cal ( Vacaville) I worked night shift so I did side work all day, built some decks...20 foot heartWood Redwood 2X4's were 5.60 a piece. I imagine they're a few cents more now...:)
love seeing the chainsaw work in the redwoods. so of the trees you fell appear super deep in the forest, how do you get them out? can you show that, and also the milling process? interested in seeing the end products too. Thanks!
They are being skidded out with a dozer and they will be going to the mill 👍 I do have some more footage coming of another trip that shows possibly some logs going through the mill
Nice to see some people who actually know what they’re doing for a change on TH-cam. I see you do things the old way as I was taught by my dad grandfather and great grandfather all who where timber fallers in California in the Eldorado county area for 4 generations my family logged the area up until the 2000s when my cousin quit the woods because of all the political bs and illegal immigrants illegally working taking jobs from American citizens. We have since left California for Missouri and they don’t log the same hear for some odd reason they love to bore cut everything. So it’s good seeing some people who still do things like they are supposed to be done.
They also run tiny bars back east trying to kill themselves due to kickback if one ever does hit the top of the nose... Never understood it either. Love breaking their backs bucking.
@@w8stral I agree. Why work harder than you need to and make more work for yourself. Using a longer bar making fewer cuts and only making a plunge cut when you have to makes more sense. I only use a smaller saw when it makes sense to for example cutting the tops and limbing trees because they don’t throw the chains as easily in thicker brush especially manzanita and live oaks . It made lots more sense when I was cutting and splitting firewood for people. I saved the big saws for larger wood saving the chain and wear and tear on the bigger saws. A smaller saw is easier for smaller wood and falling smaller trees up to 1 foot across anything larger I used the bigger saws to make it easier for me. Faster cutting less bending down. My 14 inch sthil 250 is perfect for tops limbs brush and small stuff. My 18 inch saw was the workhorse though it was lightweight fast cutting and the perfect size for the wood I was cutting at the time most of it was small oaks only a foot across. I saved my 20 inch and 36 inch for the larger trees after I had cut up the tops and limb wood. It was even more efficient for 2 cutters one cutting the tops and limbs while the other was cutting the main trunk or trunks . Or in some cases one falling trees with the big saw and the other clearing the tops and limbs to get them out of the roadway then both cutting up the trees after they were cleared off the road. We could cut up to 20 plus 1-3 foot oaks that way . When I say 1-3 that’s across the stump not how tall they are in feet .
Your comparing apples to oranges hardwood timber in the midwest and east will barber chair if you try to cut like the west coast, they usally have lean and any damage or fiber pulls to the butt log will bring a big deduct. The only way to prevent this is to bore cut, some species like the tulip poplar tends to grow straight up and reacts more like softwood so the smaller ones can be cut without boring but most fallers around here bore cut.
@@jda72 I have fell many hardwood trees out west and only have had to make only a few bore cuts and have had no problems falling leaning hardwood trees and not use a bore cut you just don’t make as big a undercut and have a fast cutting sharp saw. No problems and no barber chairs falling black oak white oak/ valley oak various live oaks broad leaf maple and dogwood trees.
@@danrobsonjr247 It won't work out here the value is in the butt log and good oak walnut cherry is very valuable and it splits easily the tension in the tree will usually beat the saw, that being said I had a Stihl 084 and if it didn't lean too bad it would cut fast enough the problem was control almost all timber sales are a select cut and they expect the logger to do as little damage as possible. The worst is probably white oak a good log goes for veneer and it's very valuable so you can't afford to take any chances it must be a clean cut off the stump or at best it will pull fiber from the log or worst case split as it starts to fall and barber chair or bust in half very dangerous and costing thousands$. Walnut is about as bad and even more expensive.

I captured that picture of Jed and one of Jacob standing on stumps from when you all went go that tree felling course. I have to watch it again or hopefully I'll find one of you Gordy. @jay robert The 460 and 460 are oldschool 77cc saws. The 462 is 71ccs just like the old 044/440/441. It’s a smaller displacement strato saw which flies at high rpm like Gordy said. If it’s going to spend it’s entire life in big wood fitted with a 36” the 046/460/461 is a better choice. More torque = grunt when pulling a lot of cutters through a lot of wood.
