I just started playing Chrono Trigger Crimson Echoes. So far, my only gripe is Chrono talks. It's actually more annoying than I thought it would be initially, but not a deal breaker.
Pokemon prism is an excellent rom hack, taking Pokemon crystal and essentially expands it to a whole new level. Adding stuff that wouldn't be seen till later titles and what not.
Really appreciated the Saturn hacks in this episode I didn't know that was even a thing. I'd like to see more of those and others of the 32bit gen. Peace, stay safe.
My favorite ending skits are the ones that involve either a $20 bill or Dave and middle fingers LMFAO. While Joe is right about the situation, I'm still not sure how I feel about the skit 🤔. I chuckled but still thought it was a little crass? Maybe it's just too early in the day. I'm usually watching much more offensive stuff anyway 😂.

Yeah, kind of a shame not to use a more recent version, the Hellslave demo has been around for a while and works perfectly on real hardware - still great to see it featured here though :)
Been watching game sack almost constantly for several days now, I'm both addicted and absolutely love it! Joe deserves so many more subscribers!
I love Gamesack. This is one the best channels on TH-cam. I can watch episodes over and over again. I strive to make my content as remotely as rewtachable as these
I'm sure that the reason why we almost never see homebrew Saturn stuff is that it's such a pain in the ass to develop for. I've read that most games released for it back in the day didn't even utilize it's 2nd CPU, because it was so incredibly difficult to do. Apparently both CPU's couldn't be used at the same time without very precise timing or something, but I know little about tech and nothing about programming.
I do not understand the thought process that causes someone to think "I am going to change the gradient background on Super Hang On," but I am really glad there are people that think like that in the world.
Feel free to keep putting out more episodes on this topic lol. That was great, I started googling instantly that Chrono Trigger hack, I had never heard of it but it's one of my favorite games of all time I might end up checking that one out.
Wow, that Sonic homebrew was impressive! Can't believe you didn't mention the ultra smooth animation of Sonic! That was the very first thing I noticed, all of his animations are FAR smoother with WAY more frames! Like seriously, this is Sonic Mania levels of smoothness here! In fact I bet that's where they got the animations from. Amazing that the Genesis can handle it. Very impressive stuff! I wish someone could make a hack of all of the original games to have that sort of animation in them!

I have a physical copy of the Super Mario Land homebrew for SNES (with a nice plastic case). My brother and I played 2 player, it was a little frustrating that you can knock the other players off platforms/etc or vice versa, but it was really fun.
There is a hack for secret of mana which restores a lot of the story (some parts just seems rushed in the original, as that game was originally intended for snes-cd and was brutally amputated in order to fit in a cartridge), also its been fully retranslated from the japanese rom...
One of the few edges I get from living in my timezone is that a new Game Sack episode caps off my Sunday evening as I sip (preferably) a couple of bottles of beer.
The Saturn 1MB to 4MB hacks are mostly just so you can play games without having to swap between multiple cartridges as some games are only compatible with the 1MB version.
I assumed the name for Sonic Z-Treme was less a reference to X-Treme and more the idea that this Sonic game is using the Z axis (3D), whereas all Genesis games were just X and Y.

Amazing episode, Joe! one thing, though: Project Z-treme evolved into Hellslave, which is -arguably- one of the most ambitious software pieces on the Saturn nowadays... I mean, transparencies everywhere, dynamic lights, high res textures, etc. Check it out!
Hey Joe, a recent hack you should check out is the Lord Hiryu hack of Super Street Fighter 2 for the Mega Drive/Genesis that was released around Christmas. It's a color and sprite hack that brings it a lot closer to the arcade. It also includes the sound hack too. He's adding and fixing a few things for the next version, but it looks great currently.
How am I not already subscribed to you when I see you use stop motion? Anyway the Indie aesthetic and spirit of these games and people behind them is a beautiful thing
That'd be a nice idea. Maybe even just make the gameplay more like it, like have a whip as a weapon. Then it'd be sorta like a "lost" castlevania game. Cos it's very well designed and fun to play anyway, so making it into literally a castlevania game makes a lot of sense. You could even call it the "real" Castlevania 2 (for those who hated the metronidvania layout and gameplay in castlevania 2 Simon's quest).
Clock tower Deluxe came out a few months ago. In addition to adding stuff from the ps1 version, it adds snes mouse support, the ability to run up and down stairs(Like clock tower 2) faster stamina regeneration, and a bunch of bug fixes. Its the best way to play clock tower, but it requires multiple patches(The english patch and the patch for this hack.) The other one is materialbound redux. This is mostly a bugfix/uncensoring patch for earthbound. It fixes grammar, fixes localization errors, uncensored things from the earthbound. The best part is the optional msu-1 soundtrack. It is what would happen if earthbound came out on a 32-bit console. The rom has been expanded as well as it requires a 4mb rom. There is also quality of life improvements like Unique overworld enemy sprites, A new control scheme that allows you to quickly do commands, photosensitive reduction for things that needed it, and apparently its fully hardware compatable(Not so sure about the msu-1 audio though.)
Thanks for pointing out the difference between Lo-Roms and Hi-Roms, hopefully some of those Lo ones will be converted to the better versions of themselves.
