Challenger is modern muscle. It is wide, heavy, long, and manly. It may not be the fastest, but it sure is the most iconic. A Challenger SRT8 is a tank with the Hemi.
SES10M Well, the lines are blurred, but Pony Car is defined by many as an American, front-engined, RWD, two-door coupe with a long hood and a short deck. The Mustang was the first to have that design. Shortly after, Chevy/Pontiac and Dodge/Plymouth came out with their versions. Muscle Car has more to do with a large, powerful V8 engine.
OddTimeMan muslce cars are 2+2 American cars with front large displacement, Pony cars are a sub category where small coupes keeping 2+2 seats with large displacements engines, People make the mistake to say the Mustang was the first muscle car when the actual first muscle car was the Pontiac GTO designed by John Delorean, cars like the GTO and the Plymoth road runner where Big coupes compared to the smaller muscle cars, when the mustan came out people started to call it a Pony car because of its small size compared to other muscle cars and so the muscle care where born now the mustang and the camaro have grown in size and weight so they keep the heritage name of pony cars but they are now more muscle cars (even if the are smaller than the charger an challenger who always have been muscle cars)
Brian Roagers no the picked the top cars of that year....the top mustang was the Shelby the top srt was slower damn I hate mopar owners. Always complaining.
@brianroagers6894 that wimpy 4.6 only ran 2-3 tenths behind the camaro despite only having 315 hp and it was much cheaper and lighter. The gt500 wasn't that much more price was vs the dodge and its down almost a full liter of displacement to the other two.
how the hell did you guys only get a 13.6 from the Challenger SRT8???.. Motor Trend tested the weaker Challenger R/T and ran a 13.6 too ON THE SAME TEST TRACK. Are there test drivers that much better than yours? lol
@@Bo12346hhgfgdg she hellcat didn't exist yet either this was years before any of those came out. The hellcat cost a good bit more than that gt500. I have seen those gt500s of that year trapping like 118ish. These cars are running much slower than normal. The 13-14 gt500 was just as fast if not faster than the newer 15 up hellcat. The precious shelbys can also beat hellcats with a simple 1500-2000 dollar blower swap.
The cool thing about the Camaro is that there is a holographic display that directs on the drivers windshield. Allowing you to see speed/fuel etc - without taking your eyes off the road.
No it actually wouldn't. This gt500 was trapping 9 mph higher than the challenger. It would take big boost to gain enough mph to "destroy" the gt500. The non hellcat challengers aren't known for being able to take boost very well. You throw a blower on either of these other cars then the gt500 gets an aftermarket blower. These cars are all stock. You throw an aftermarket blower on one they all should get an aftermarket blower. Guess what the gt500 would still come out on top. This is an old comment but still a dumb one.
Really.. if you had 50,000 dollar's whould you really buy a camaro or a challenger. you get 662 BHP in the new shelby gt500. it doesn't need a rocket scientist to explain this...
$50k to spend on a car? Will that get you a GT500? The only one I drove was $72k and I hated driving it. Make no mistake, the power was INSANE but I was uncomfortable and felt like I was sitting on top of the car instead of inside it. I'd probably take the $50k and buy the ZL1.
yet again its a supercharged ford..... yah lets get the zl1 in there and beat the all mighty gt500 and the srt8 not even close..... the zl1 wipes the floor with both of them... and why is it challengers best model to? they make an rt and ford makes a gt... try those against an ss camaro still kills them. just face it chevy makes better muscle/ Sports cars... Corvette ZR1 camaro ZL1... top notch
I wouldn't waste my mo eyes on any of them;I would get a 2013 Mustang gt and call it a day. If I spent more than 35k I'd go all the way into next class of super car.. Zo6 or gtr
No the 12 zl1 didn't smoke that year gt500 actually. Not to mention when this video was mass 2009 for 2010 models the zl1 was like 2 years away from coming out. Old comment but still a dumb one
love that challenger look but you know how now days ther trying to bring back the look of a car from years ago one thing i can say is they did really well with these 3 cars
@Surfvolcom77 did u look at the upload date? there was no 5.0L v8 mustang at the time just the 4.7L which only had 300hp so they probably used the GT500 because it had more power to compete with the SS and the SRT8. Yes using the GT500 is a little much, but the main reason the camaro and the challenger didn't perform as well as the mustang is because of how much they weigh especially with a 6.2L in the SS and a 6.1L in the SRT8 as compared to a 5.4L in the mustang
The Challenger just looks and sounds badass. You can drive it at 15 mph and it still turn heads and sets car alarms off. That is basically the end of the comparison.
@ChevyFan2203 well, when it comes to the earlier models you are definitely right, but all of that has been significantly improved. even the base models have been upgraded very well. you should definitely take another look, especially on the 2011/2012 models. i think you will like what you see.
I like your video lots. However I'm confused why you guys compared the Shelby to the SS and not the Challenger scat pack. you should have compared the Mustang GT to the other two. Another observation is that Camaro when tested by Motortrend magazine tested the SS at 4.6 to 4.7 seconds and not 5.0 seconds. ??
I was trying to get at price comparison. According to Dodge's website, an 2012 SRT8 392 costs $44,425 alone, without any extra features. A base R/T (Not R/T Plus, nor R/T Classic.) costs $29,995. That's a $14,430 difference. With that extra $14,430, and maybe with any other extra money you've got laying around, you can buy a bunch of performance upgrades and increase it's horsepower and overall performance to the point where it exceeds that of a stock SRT8 392.
@TheElysianTerror Yeah I see what you mean, but the GT is really the sportier version of the V6 mustang. And then the GT 500 is even better than the GT. HP, price, and performance are more similar within the SRT8, GT, and SS. I know that this isn't the newer engine, but even the 2008 Challenger with the older engine is running 4.7-4.8 and the newer ones are going 4.4-4.5. You were informative, and polite, I didn't feel you were bashing at all. Nice SRT8, I'm happy you got one, I love them too!
Weight will only save you in the initial process if your car is underpowered. The only thing that is stopping a gt500 from 11s would be traction issues.
Last time i checked, the Challenger is the only one of the 3 that still looks like its classic counterpart, the rest just look like tuner cars now. So they are disqualified for not being muscle cars XD
@AlexDeMars123 If you're referring to the 2011 Mustang GT it wasn't out at this time. That's why they didn't use it. But yeah the Shelby didn't really compete on power with these two, it was a class above.
Well a stock Supercharged Mustang GT500 V8 sportscar can go 0-100kph in 4.6sec?! My stock 2.3tons naturally aspirated V8 Jeep SRT8 family SUV can do 0-100kph in 4.8 sec, too? What does this indicate ...?
You get used to it, if you drove a camaro once it's unusual but the mirrors (adjusted well) help and I actually just tinted my SS and I'm still perfectly find the Camaro reasonable
I'm saving for a car I currently own an ss but I want something bigger. Should I get the zl1 camaro or srt challenger I hate mustangs. If I get a challenger. Are they making a better one for 2014
ESTEBEEZY96 if you want bigger go with the Challenger. I am 6'2" 252lbs. I have two car seats in the back. One forward facing behind the passenger seat and one rear facing in the middle. I have a 2009 R/T with sunroof and not only do the car seats fit well, the passenger has plenty of room, and I actually have more headroom in my Challenger w/sunroof than I do in my wifes 2008 Tahoe w/sunroof.
@texasguy626 You do realize the LS1 is the 5.7L right? Like the one they put in c5 Vettes, 05 GTO's, and 4th Gen Camaro's and Firebirds of the same years. None of those cars without a 200 shot is going anywhere near a Shelby
yeah i guess you're right i just don't like people going all mad in the comments to know , who likes which car better and which is better , it makes me feel bad tho... i don't want this to become some kind of WW3
@ParisTNDude Did you ever stop to think MT's Mustangs were faster because they have the optional 3.73 axle and not the standard 3.31 that all the other test have.
SRT is currently working on a new Challenger with a new engine codenamed "HELLCAT" its going to be a 6.4L supercharged with Viper power levels which should be around 600HP.
In the last 2 years I've bought a new Challenger SRT8, Mustang GT & Camaro SS/RS. All are great cars. Each has their + &- for visibility but my wife & I don't have any issues, we just adjust to the car.. Visibility: Challenger - best front, worst rear Mustang - worst front, best rear Camaro - middle for both front rear For driving thru the twisty backroads by me the SS is a bit better than the SRT8 leaving the Mustang at the back with its solid rear axle.
@10243612B is just went to a car show and saw the boss. the Boss is undrivable if you want to have it as your main car. the seats are about 2 inches thick and looks like the ride would be hard as hell. it does look badass but it is seriously only made for the race track when other competitors are relatively comfortable
I know this one did...I can get 5.4's out of my '14 R/T all day long on the factory radials cold...I'm quite certain I could easily match or beat their SRT times...which is to say driven properly...that SRT should be able to best my times with the added power...
like the guy said at the start of the video, the point is in th emoney you want to spend, if you are not a racing pro, you don`t need the 1.5 sec of the shelby vs challenger, if we will drive on the city will be a matter of like
@50RNDCLP stock is strait from the manufacturer factory, no interference with any other company such as shelby, hennessey rouch etc. a shelby mustang isnt a stock mustang because just like the hennessey camaro's, another company as involved in the performance and/or design of the vehicle.
actually 1: I did get the weight right because I can go outside right now and tell you the exact weight of the SRT8 challenger. 2: There are plenty of stock cars out there you will get 180+ the SRT8 and the SS can go 180+ stock. 3:Its not all about the acceleration, Its about the way the car is tuned. The Stock SRT8 sitting outside of my house right now has a lot of acceleration. 5: The GT500 is supercharged
@Surfvolcom77 BTW Motor Trend already did a comparison between the new Mustangs vs the Camaros vs the Challengers, testing the Mustang GT 5.0, the Challenger SRT8, and the Camaro SS and the Mustang still got a higher overall score
@insideLine Video I cannot paste a link to another youtube video in here but Heres what you need to run with all 2011's looks like motortrend just did 2010's vs 2011 V-8 Pony Car Drag Race! 2011 Mustang GT vs 2010 Camaro SS vs 2010
@oDTheTruth they have done that too. This is the top level test as it stands now, with no Z28 the SS is camaro's top dog right now. While the Z28 is reported in the works, sadly for dodge the SRT8 is the top for them.
i would drive all of these cars but i feel like dodge srts are heavy and bulky i feel like they can slim them up. the new charger looks slimmer so maybe they are heading for lighter but idk
I own a 2009 srt8. 6.1 is the way to go if you are going to mod. Regardless, there will always be something faster, nicer or a better value. I like it because of its look.
Challenger wins for looks, something about dodge cars have always looked cool. I was surprised that it won the handling but I had guessed the Shelby would be the fastest. They should try the 5.0 stang and 2011 challenger.
@randumbuller ugghh, I don't know, the thing is that the Shelby has so much more power than the rest do, it also costs so much more. The Camaro SS, Challenger SRT8, and Mustang GT are all a couple tenths of a second apart from each other and are price relatively near each other. The Shelby on the other hand is nearly half a second ahead of second place. I know the Challenger is very big and the blind spots from that massive rear pillar can be annoying but like I mentioned, the space and seats...
@Ren336 doesn't matter anyway the Mustang GT 5.0 (without supercharger) has been tested in a fair competition in the 400hp range against the Camero SS 6.2 and Challenger SRT8 6.1 and Ford still beat both, even with a smaller, natural aspirated engine
i like it how the Challenger is the only one that keeps the retro look
Yeah but it looks old now....time for a new challenger
SFBay69 Yeah, I hear you, but a lot of people still like the squarish look. I know I do.
i agree there's nothing with the design
yeah and the camaro doesnt have old 69 look to it like the challenger looks like his big brother i smell a hater

I know this one did...I can get 5.4's out of my '14 R/T all day long on the factory radials cold...I'm quite certain I could easily match or beat their SRT times...which is to say driven properly...that SRT should be able to best my times with the added power...
like the guy said at the start of the video, the point is in th emoney you want to spend, if you are not a racing pro, you don`t need the 1.5 sec of the shelby vs challenger, if we will drive on the city will be a matter of like
I agree use a zl1 but they weren't introduced until 2012 this vid was made in 09
@50RNDCLP stock is strait from the manufacturer factory, no interference with any other company such as shelby, hennessey rouch etc. a shelby mustang isnt a stock mustang because just like the hennessey camaro's, another company as involved in the performance and/or design of the vehicle.
I question some of the EDMUNDS DRIVERS because those are some slow times... I wonder if i could do better sometime...
@JDYDesigns a 6k cobra? u sure your right about that that?
actually 1: I did get the weight right because I can go outside right now and tell you the exact weight of the SRT8 challenger.
@uali1 while were at it why don't we throw the Ford GT into the mix as well, see who comes out on top.
yea they are different year's this one is a 2009, the one that goes up against the charger is a 2011
@Vergameister no there not look on youtube there already a vid on a 2012 chaly with no supercharger
On a track as well, look it up man!
I wonder how the new SRT8 Hemi would handle against these(6.4L Hemi), the non hellcat version.
+Flynn88MN yeah i like that more than the hellcat.
No homo but I love the way this guy talks about these cars!
the shelby is after market prepared so why didnt the put some performance parts on the camaro and challenger
@Surfvolcom77 BTW Motor Trend already did a comparison between the new Mustangs vs the Camaros vs the Challengers, testing the Mustang GT 5.0, the Challenger SRT8, and the Camaro SS and the Mustang still got a higher overall score
@insideLine Video
I cannot paste a link to another youtube video in here but Heres what you need to run with all 2011's looks like motortrend just did 2010's vs 2011
V-8 Pony Car Drag Race! 2011 Mustang GT vs 2010 Camaro SS vs 2010
@kk6downing Why run a after market Super Snake against stock other cars
Maybe the GT500 will be up for a rematch once once the Z28 Camaro and Cuda are available.
@oDTheTruth they have done that too. This is the top level test as it stands now, with no Z28 the SS is camaro's top dog right now. While the Z28 is reported in the works, sadly for dodge the SRT8 is the top for them.
A lot of these shots made me think Michael Bay was directing this ...me likes.
@maggot955 until the z28 with the supercharger comes out at the end of the year... now that would be a great comparison , 3 supercahrged car showdown.
i would drive all of these cars but i feel like dodge srts are heavy and bulky i feel like they can slim them up. the new charger looks slimmer so maybe they are heading for lighter but idk
Pony Wars are AWESOME!!!
Everyone hates everyone
I own a 2009 srt8. 6.1 is the way to go if you are going to mod. Regardless, there will always be something faster, nicer or a better value. I like it because of its look.
I agree 👍
@tiestoXIV that makes complete sense. either a mustang gt or 5.0 would have been the real comparison
Challenger wins for looks, something about dodge cars have always looked cool. I was surprised that it won the handling but I had guessed the Shelby would be the fastest. They should try the 5.0 stang and 2011 challenger.
@Marshmallow250f il look up the new specs, the se challenger may run close to the new V6... but deffinitly not the GT.
@preludekid9296 Don't know where got that from. Shelbys are made on the same line with the other Stangs. Carrol Shelby did design it though.
@Ren336 doesn't matter anyway the Mustang GT 5.0 (without supercharger) has been tested in a fair competition in the 400hp range against the Camero SS 6.2 and Challenger SRT8 6.1 and Ford still beat both, even with a smaller, natural aspirated engine
that GT500 just got on my Wish-List!! (i got 2 GT500's in HotWheels!)
