Brandon Doom That is one soft spot for the Performance Mustangs. They never seem to have tires and breaks that are as high-performance as the rest of the car. Put some wider tires and bigger breaks that are more resistant to fade! Sure, a customer/owner can spend a couple grand and get new tires and breaks, but why not just include them from the factory? It may add $1,000 - $2,000 to the sticker, but when you are buying a performance car, I don't think that the extra price is going to make any buyers walk away.

I own a 2010 grabber bluegt500supersnake with just a tune and my car on drag tires ran a 10.00 at 140mph plus. So with the proper tire the camero and challenger didn't have a chance period. Also before people comment if you don't own a supersnake or a fast car keep your opinions too your self.
These test numbers are pathetic wrong.I own a 900hp 2010 super snake.Iam not a race car driver and I have been 10.00 at 140 plus at the track.My super snake has more power than the one shone.But the huge difference are tires.I took off the stock 275s and put 305s on the rare and what a huge difference. I tried running the stock 275s at the track and I literally couldn't get the car to hook until I was in 4th gear.I don't care how much power you have if you can't put it down your not winning. So to run a 12.00 here and the car spinning the tires until you hit 3rd gear is very fast.So tires make a gigantic difference.
I agree.What most people don't know is that the super snake here is the base 635hp version.The Kenny Bell is the 850hp version.I have a 10 grabber blue super snake with well over 800hp.The other issue here is the tires are just not wide enough.My 2 super snakes have perelli P Zeroes but just a set of 305s on the rare.Does it stop the wheels just going up in smoke YES.Much better.The super snake here is a 10 just like my SS.But between having a lot more power and traction EQUALS game over for the camero and challenger.Like I said most people really didn't know the SS HERE WAS THE BASE VERSION.

The sad thing is the HPE650 package by Henessey only modify's the engine, the brakes and suspension are standard on the Camaro SS! This isn't even the Camaro ZL1 its just the SS and it whooped Shelby's ass! People saying this is aftermarket on the Camaro's part are idiots, Shelby is aftermarket and always was! He made his own cars and is more well known then Shelby. This made the car look like a joke its braking and handling was garbage and lost to a challenger. I drove a gt500 around the race track in las vegas for $200. I drove the ZL1, Shelby, and Challenger, and let me say the ZL1 by far won when it comes to handling and 0-60 time. The Shelby has a weird 2nd gear chirp you can see in this video, everytime it hits 2nd gear inside the car its feels very strange like something is going to break and makes a weird sound! Overall you must look at price the Camaro SS is about $30,000 plus the HPE650 package that's around $50,000, cheaper than the GT500 super snake and way faster plus it sounds so much better. You are one lucky guy to even have that opportunity. Hennesy is totally badass. They took Vipers and made them supercar level. Now, they do the same with Caddys and Camaros. Hell, Hennessy even made the Ford GT a totally supercar level car. Love all the fanboy fughting in the last few months over a 4 and half year old video. The cars and the way they perform changed radically a few months later. At the time if this video ford hadn't redone it's v8 and the camaro won hands down. When the 5.0 release it got the upper hand and walked the camaro's. But look at how much we as consumers won from the competition. So there's that. Plus the bass gt500 now has 660+ hp stock. Chevy has been fighting back and dodge is bringing back the cuda. All in all a win for everyone.
I understand that the Challenger was the slowest. But you have to give it credit. It had sooo much less power and was heavier yet it didn't fall to far behind the Super Snake. It even beat it on the track. It braked very well too. If they could of shown up with the right SRT8 they could have won. But oh well

Well, the Boss 302 is a distinct and separate model, much like the Camaro ZL1 or the Shelby GT500. More than a hop-up package, the Boss goes so far as to have a unique engine relative to the standard GT. The GT Track Pack is simply an option on top of the base GT that adds equipment to make it better suited for hot lapping. Similarly, the SS 1LE is an option package for the base SS to serve the same purpose. We could go on about trick bits and pieces all day.
Not sure why it matters which is better they are just cars, They ALL are badass in some ways and are ALL shit in another way, More than likely they will ALL have the same problems in the end. I like all three and would drive all three because its just a damn car. I like ford more because of their body design and comfort, while others will say the same about dodge and chevy both. Hennessey is the man doing all the right things these days. Quality shit. And I've been a Chevy/Camaro guy my whole life, but I love the way that Super Snake looks, especially the blue paint. Nice ride. Additionally, I kinda like the way the Challenger sounds.

All the cars in this video came directly from the tuners so blame Shelby for giving the mustang shit tires. And none of them had drag radials hell, I can't recall motortrend ever putting drag radials on a car for testing. Personally, I have no hate for the Mustang. However I think the Camaro has consistently looked better and only has one ugly generation vs the Mustangs four (Only good looking mustangs are honestly first and fifth gens in my opinion). As for Speed the Camaro has always been more track capable and on par in the quarter mile but the 6th gen camaros are proving to be faster in all categories so I wouldn't be so quick to say the mustang is the king. I'd say most mustang haters are really just mustang fan haters because, geberally speaking, mustang fans are the most unreasonable. To them the mustang is the best no matter what and they don't care to look at the facts.

Oh and FYI "The Speedfactory" Challenger was a stand in for the 700+ horsepower car that was supposed to attend this comparison. It was 158 RWHP behind the Hennessy HPE650 Camaro and 181RWHP behind the Shelby GT500 SuperSnake. With a horsepower deficit like that the Challenger should have been more that 1 second behind in quarter mile ET. The numbers it layed down demonstrate that Speedfactory knows exactly how their cars perform and they knew this car would perform well enough to be considered in the class with the Hennessy and the Shelby. Bottom line is that all 3 cars are absolutely incredible performing machines.

I'm also a Ford fan, but it comes to cornering. the Camaro is simply the better car. anti gravity independent suspension when it picks up speed it squats like a drag car giving it more traction. with two cars with straight axle like the Mustang and Challenger don't handle very well. if the the Mustang and Challenger had independent suspension. maybe just maybe the Mustang and Challenger would win by a hair probably.
Hennessey is what?? Hahaha... You guys kill me. Hennessey is NOTHING MORE than a tuning facility that hangs aftermarket parts on cars. Hennessey manufactures nothing. They are a great tuner shop and build some great stuff, but dont confuse someone who actually designs and builds cars with shops who modify and improve those cars.
power costs money my friend, and finding 80 more horse in an already powerful engine is not cheap or easy. Why they bothered with the LSA is beyond me, they should have just went with the 638hp LS9. The only reason I think is that it didn't handle all the power well as it is a very heavy car. And I worded the release dates wrong, you're right, I mean to say the GT500 came out about 6 months later. As for HP/Weight, the Camaro is some 200lbs heavier so even with 660hp, it'd be working hard
It's amazing the difference my supersnake on the track with drag tires.My car ran a 10.00 at 140mph.A little different from the 12.00.The stock perrrelli tires look good but traction very hard to find. You have to manage the power. 4th gear 80mph mat it and it can break the stock tires loose.But my new tires it hooks all day.
This is what is great about America's v8 cars easy to modify. This is a perfect example of that. Also when comming to the 1/4 time the Shelby should have won if it had slicks, needed the traction to handle power.
Also you might like to know, at one point Ford had a commercial (which you may remember) bashing GM and Chrysler featuring a narration about how "“I wasn’t going to buy another car that was bailed out by our government. I was going to buy from a manufacturer that’s standing on their own: win, lose, or draw...". This commercial was later withdrawn from the air after it was revealed Ford in fact took money from the Government, just like the others only a tad bit sooner.
Anyone else notice that the '13 GT500 runs 0-60 at 3.5s to 3.7s. whereas they are supposed to be the "beefier" Supersnake and Hennessey is slower to 60 and in a quarter mile.
Gearing plays into the 0-60 mph time of the Super Snake as well , 3.73:1 vs 3.31:1 rear axle ratio . What puzzles me is the low MPH for the Super Snake through the quarter-mile. As you mentioned, the 2013-'14 GT500 runs mid 120's with a good driver .
Christopher McLendon my guess is because the Supersnake slipped well into the beginning of 3rd with wheel spin making it lose precious time. I bet on the Texas mile, the outcome would be different with SuperSnake vs '13-'14 GT500
I have driven all three and bought the ChallengerSRT8 because it was much more comfortable to drive and handles great and is quick off the line! There are just to many cops out there to go faster than 150 and that is about as fast as I have gotten up to! I know it will go about 189 but as soon as I slowed down a state trooper pulled behind me!

The auto transmissions Chrysler is putting in their cars come with paddle shifters. Whatever your feelings about manual paddle shifters are faster between gears. So their thought was likely flying through the gears out of corners. A tactic that has worked well for F1 racers.

Entertaining comparis on video. Would have liked to have seen what the promised Challenger would have done in comparison as opposed to the one that was delivered since it seemed pretty to keep the competition close throughout the entire test while spotting the others 200 hp
Technically this was supposed to be an aftermarket competition too. However the Shelby Super Snake is a production vehicle. Had they gotten a Roush, the results for the mustangs may have been far different.
Cool video. Looking at how the Mustang was handling I'd say Shelby didnt put as much focus on its suspension like it did its drive train. The nose dive says it all. It is extremely crucial you take care of the suspension with a proper system. Not a fair comparison here.

Okay, the 392 can take on an SS or 5.0 GT. But that model Challenger will cost you around $45k minimum, which is closer to the price of a Camaro ZL1 or Mustang Shelby GT500. The Camaro and the Mustang make 580 and 662 horsepower respectively. The Challenger R/T would make a better comparison, as it's a very similar price to the Camaro SS or the Mustang GT (5.0L). Unfortunately, the Challenger still falls short in that comparison with only 375 HP vs the 420 HP from the Mustang.

Heads/cam, ls6 manifold, cold air, clutch, tuner, full slp exhaust front to back and the normal suspension upgrades. Paid $22,000 for the car plus the mods low thirties car. ran on street tires with 3.42 gears best et...12.1 at 117mph. How can they be so slow?
How is it unfair? They are testing tuner cars as they are. You send your car to one of those tuners, that is exactly how you get them back. It's perfectly fair, and the power levels of the Camaro and Ford were very close. Mustangs cannot handle and have traction issues.....The Camaros can handle and do not have as much traction issues. The Camaro overall is a better car, in stock trim or modified, because the car is simply engineered to be balanced, not just a straight line car.

Minus hitting bumps, the 2013 GT500 is still more fun to drive then any Camaro model available. The Camaro is just better balanced at the moment, all Ford would have to do is fix the three critical issues and the Mustang would reclaim its fame again.

I own a 2010 grabber bluegt500supersnake with just a tune and my car on drag tires ran a 10.00 at 140mph plus. So with the proper tire the camero and challenger didn't have a chance period. Also before people comment if you don't own a supersnake or a fast car keep your opinions too your self.
These test numbers are pathetic wrong.I own a 900hp 2010 super snake.Iam not a race car driver and I have been 10.00 at 140 plus at the track.My super snake has more power than the one shone.But the huge difference are tires.I took off the stock 275s and put 305s on the rare and what a huge difference. I tried running the stock 275s at the track and I literally couldn't get the car to hook until I was in 4th gear.I don't care how much power you have if you can't put it down your not winning. So to run a 12.00 here and the car spinning the tires until you hit 3rd gear is very fast.So tires make a gigantic difference.
I agree.What most people don't know is that the super snake here is the base 635hp version.The Kenny Bell is the 850hp version.I have a 10 grabber blue super snake with well over 800hp.The other issue here is the tires are just not wide enough.My 2 super snakes have perelli P Zeroes but just a set of 305s on the rare.Does it stop the wheels just going up in smoke YES.Much better.The super snake here is a 10 just like my SS.But between having a lot more power and traction EQUALS game over for the camero and challenger.Like I said most people really didn't know the SS HERE WAS THE BASE VERSION.

People saying this is aftermarket on the Camaro's part are idiots, Shelby is aftermarket and always was! He made his own cars and is more well known then Shelby. This made the car look like a joke its braking and handling was garbage and lost to a challenger.
I drove a gt500 around the race track in las vegas for $200. I drove the ZL1, Shelby, and Challenger, and let me say the ZL1 by far won when it comes to handling and 0-60 time. The Shelby has a weird 2nd gear chirp you can see in this video, everytime it hits 2nd gear inside the car its feels very strange like something is going to break and makes a weird sound!
Overall you must look at price the Camaro SS is about $30,000 plus the HPE650 package that's around $50,000, cheaper than the GT500 super snake and way faster plus it sounds so much better. Sorry ford fans you got your ass kicked

Love all the fanboy fughting in the last few months over a 4 and half year old video. The cars and the way they perform changed radically a few months later. At the time if this video ford hadn't redone it's v8 and the camaro won hands down. When the 5.0 release it got the upper hand and walked the camaro's. But look at how much we as consumers won from the competition. So there's that. Plus the bass gt500 now has 660+ hp stock. Chevy has been fighting back and dodge is bringing back the cuda. All in all a win for everyone.
I understand that the Challenger was the slowest. But you have to give it credit. It had sooo much less power and was heavier yet it didn't fall to far behind the Super Snake. It even beat it on the track. It braked very well too. If they could of shown up with the right SRT8 they could have won. But oh well

Well, the Boss 302 is a distinct and separate model, much like the Camaro ZL1 or the Shelby GT500. More than a hop-up package, the Boss goes so far as to have a unique engine relative to the standard GT. The GT Track Pack is simply an option on top of the base GT that adds equipment to make it better suited for hot lapping. Similarly, the SS 1LE is an option package for the base SS to serve the same purpose. We could go on about trick bits and pieces all day.

Hennessey is the man doing all the right things these days. Quality shit. And I've been a Chevy/Camaro guy my whole life, but I love the way that Super Snake looks, especially the blue paint. Nice ride. Additionally, I kinda like the way the Challenger sounds.

As for Speed the Camaro has always been more track capable and on par in the quarter mile but the 6th gen camaros are proving to be faster in all categories so I wouldn't be so quick to say the mustang is the king. Oh and FYI "The Speedfactory" Challenger was a stand in for the 700+ horsepower car that was supposed to attend this comparison. It was 158 RWHP behind the Hennessy HPE650 Camaro and 181RWHP behind the Shelby GT500 SuperSnake. With a horsepower deficit like that the Challenger should have been more that 1 second behind in quarter mile ET. The numbers it layed down demonstrate that Speedfactory knows exactly how their cars perform and they knew this car would perform well enough to be considered in the class with the Hennessy and the Shelby. Bottom line is that all 3 cars are absolutely incredible performing machines.

power costs money my friend, and finding 80 more horse in an already powerful engine is not cheap or easy. Why they bothered with the LSA is beyond me, they should have just went with the 638hp LS9. The only reason I think is that it didn't handle all the power well as it is a very heavy car. And I worded the release dates wrong, you're right, I mean to say the GT500 came out about 6 months later. As for HP/Weight, the Camaro is some 200lbs heavier so even with 660hp, it'd be working hard

You have to manage the power. 4th gear 80mph mat it and it can break the stock tires loose.But my new tires it hooks all day.
This is what is great about America's v8 cars easy to modify. This is a perfect example of that. Also when comming to the 1/4 time the Shelby should have won if it had slicks, needed the traction to handle power.
Also you might like to know, at one point Ford had a commercial (which you may remember) bashing GM and Chrysler featuring a narration about how "“I wasn’t going to buy another car that was bailed out by our government. I was going to buy from a manufacturer that’s standing on their own: win, lose, or draw...". This commercial was later withdrawn from the air after it was revealed Ford in fact took money from the Government, just like the others only a tad bit sooner.

Gearing plays into the 0-60 mph time of the Super Snake as well , 3.73:1 vs 3.31:1 rear axle ratio . What puzzles me is the low MPH for the Super Snake through the quarter-mile. As you mentioned, the 2013-'14 GT500 runs mid 120's with a good driver .
Christopher McLendon my guess is because the Supersnake slipped well into the beginning of 3rd with wheel spin making it lose precious time. I bet on the Texas mile, the outcome would be different with SuperSnake vs '13-'14 GT500
I have driven all three and bought the ChallengerSRT8 because it was much more comfortable to drive and handles great and is quick off the line! There are just to many cops out there to go faster than 150 and that is about as fast as I have gotten up to! I know it will go about 189 but as soon as I slowed down a state trooper pulled behind me!
Yeah, Nice to revisit… These builds are very tame by today’s standards… People are going for 1000whp in 2022… Our old ZL1 pulls at 712/698 on a Mustang dyno.Slap a turbo on a car and bam! You have the hp. Adding boost helps any engine.

Acceleration, breaking, skid pad, track performance is all affected by tires.
The auto transmissions Chrysler is putting in their cars come with paddle shifters. Whatever your feelings about manual paddle shifters are faster between gears. So their thought was likely flying through the gears out of corners. A tactic that has worked well for F1 racers.

Yah I own a 2010 supersnake and dead stock.The car runs 10.00 at 140mph.When I take off the cats and put the long tubes on with a h pipe with no cats and a tune.I really think I can run 9s easily.
All the Shelby needs is a set of better tires and those cars are history

Entertaining comparis on video. Would have liked to have seen what the promised Challenger would have done in comparison as opposed to the one that was delivered since it seemed pretty to keep the competition close throughout the entire test while spotting the others 200 hp

Technically this was supposed to be an aftermarket competition too. However the Shelby Super Snake is a production vehicle. Had they gotten a Roush, the results for the mustangs may have been far different.
Cool video. Looking at how the Mustang was handling I'd say Shelby didnt put as much focus on its suspension like it did its drive train. The nose dive says it all. It is extremely crucial you take care of the suspension with a proper system. Not a fair comparison here.

Okay, the 392 can take on an SS or 5.0 GT. But that model Challenger will cost you around $45k minimum, which is closer to the price of a Camaro ZL1 or Mustang Shelby GT500. The Camaro and the Mustang make 580 and 662 horsepower respectively. The Challenger R/T would make a better comparison, as it's a very similar price to the Camaro SS or the Mustang GT (5.0L). Unfortunately, the Challenger still falls short in that comparison with only 375 HP vs the 420 HP from the Mustang.

I really am baffled at those performance numbers! I bought a 2000 ss hardtop 6spd in 2006 with 21,000km on it.I put $10,000CND(includes duty charges and shipping) from LM performance in Florida. Heads/cam, ls6 manifold, cold air, clutch, tuner, full slp exhaust front to back and the normal suspension upgrades. Paid $22,000 for the car plus the mods low thirties car. ran on street tires with 3.42 gears best et...12.1 at 117mph. How can they be so slow?
How is it unfair? They are testing tuner cars as they are. You send your car to one of those tuners, that is exactly how you get them back. It's perfectly fair, and the power levels of the Camaro and Ford were very close.
Mustangs cannot handle and have traction issues.....The Camaros can handle and do not have as much traction issues.
The Camaro overall is a better car, in stock trim or modified, because the car is simply engineered to be balanced, not just a straight line car.
Love all three cars but bought the challengerSRT8 because much more comfortable ride especially since I drive over 1600 miles south to Arizona every 6 months
Okay I watched the whole thing and tires can make or break ANY car including minivans or even a Prius. So, seriously, what tires were on each car? Obviously, the Hennesy and the Speedfactory guys put some "sticky" compound tires on thier cars but what was on the Super Snake?

I remember when these were the next best thing. The Challenger was humiliated by the others. We live in different times now I must say.
What folk aren't realizing is that is the 5.4 super snake doesn't produce the same 800+ HP that the 5.8 super snake produces.
Minus hitting bumps, the 2013 GT500 is still more fun to drive then any Camaro model available. The Camaro is just better balanced at the moment, all Ford would have to do is fix the three critical issues and the Mustang would reclaim its fame again.
