Scrap clusters three ways.

  • There are many ways to make clusters of scraps, used as embellishments in junk journals and on cards. I start by building a base with scrap paper, then adding embellishments in a later step. Here are three ways, using the same basic scraps, that you can build a scrap cluster in a style that suits your taste. *This video is not intended for children.

    This video reminded me, oddly enough, of when I was a kid and used to make treasure maps by burning the edges of maps and place an X somewhere. I would love to see your version of that. You have an amazing style.

      Thank you Janice. That was a lot of fun when we were kids, wasn't it? Okay, now I want to do a pirate map mini journal. How cool would that be! You know, I bet there are pirate route/search -for-treasure type vacation experiences. That could be a whole lot of fun!

    I’m a card maker, but I’m going to try to get into junk journaling. I needed your explanation of how to start a cluster...I was struggling. I have mostly card stock and scrapbooking papers...I want to make colorful journals vs antique looking journals. I’m trying to find a color to ink my pieces with that isn’t brown. Keep your videos coming. They are fun to watch and help us newbies get started. This simple explanation was wonderful! Thank you...I’ll be watching!

    • @CoriDahmen
      @CoriDahmen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ink that isn't brown... black? Sanded white edges? Hero arts white ink? Those might unify some brighter and bolder pages. I still have, love and use my scrapbook paper and supplies, though I don't use them as often with journals. The concepts, folds and ideas work (or they should) regardless of the lines you prefer to use. Welcome and vive la cardmaking!

      I just typed a reply, and then it all disappeared including what Cori Dahmen wrote. I also work using more colour leaning towards blues. I use Chipped Sapphire or even Broken China depends on what I am working on. Pumice Stone is a good neutral and blends well with the blues. I usually use more than one colour.

  • @Kayenne54

    Those samples of what each ink looks like was extremely helpful. I chose Vintage Photo (because junk journalists mentioned it often) but didn't REALLY know how it would look or work for my needs; seeing them all demonstrated like that was great. Found that I actually liked the black soot look too and wouldn't have known about it except for your samples. This whole video was extremely useful. Thank you. P.S. love the die cuts concept too, will try that out soon!

    Hi Cori, I love your imagination on how you can just look at scraps of paper and lace and kind of just put things together and it comes out ,I mean fantastico! I love watching your ideas on scrap making and I hope you wind up making another junk journal soon. A step by step one to follow along.

    • @CoriDahmen
      @CoriDahmen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cindy. I have no plans to do another that is so detailed a nd follow along. You might have noticed that I tend to squirrel and it bothers some people when I'm not able to finish a series in a timely manner. BUT, I never know where the squirrel will take me, so anything is possible 😊

    May I suggest using finger cots on your fingers that get distress stained? OR, the silicone tips for working with hot glue. I was trying to figure out how to keep MY fingers from getting stained a few days ago and thought of these. ALSO, I just bought a set of 3 scrapers (for fondant, I believe)from the wedding cake aisle for very cheap. There are different designs on 3 sides of each scraper. I was going to try to use it to tear paper in different styles. That idea kind of worked. Then I decided to use it as a texture paste tool. That idea worked better. It is so much fun to look at something and try to figure out a way to use it in my crafting.

      LOL! It's an ice scraper. It was in your car because it is designed to use on car windows in the event of ice or snow. I drive a big truck, so I use a long arm scraper, hence the little guy lives, and gets used, in my craft room.
