His bullpen decisions are the front offices decisions almost all of the time and relying on the analytics is just a bet that doesn’t work out sometimes. Been watching Dave Roberts since his first year, and I can pretty safely say the Dodgers would not have had the success they've had without him. The main thing about him is that his greatest strength is also his greatest weakness, which is trusting and relationships with his players. He's an extremely active and expressive guy, and has and makes great connections with his players, but sometimes his trust and relationships with the players can get in the way, namely with bullpen managing (take 2019 NLDS for example). All and all, really smart manager in most situations, and probably the best players manager in the game, glad to have him on the team, cause the Dodgers would be empty without him.

That you put Dusty Baker anywhere other than ‘F’ puts your entire tier criteria into question. Baker never, ever in his career been an even competent manager. He is a coattail riding screw off who gets primo gig job after someone else builds the teams the year before. Joe Girardi, same issue but he is a very capable manager. But same thing, he won the ‘09 World Series with a Joe Torre built team.

I agree with a lot of your choices but I think AJ Hunch should be on the S level. I'm born and raised in Detroit but I'm not being a homer. After watching the Tigers the past 5 to 6 seasons it's actually fun to go to Comerica or watch them on tv cause they are so competitive and fun to watch. I truly am encouraged about the future for the Tigers

Most fans including myself thinking that Charlie Montoyo was bad hire . He was for the most part a career- minor-league manager in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays/Rays system until 5 years ago when he was promoted to Tampa's major league coaching staff after 18 years working in the minors. Being that he is 55 years old; one would think he would've been given a chance much soon than 2019 if either Tampa or another organization thought that he was worth the risk to be promoted/hired as the manager.

As a Yankees fan I believe Boone is F tier. Our best lineup doesn’t include Gleyber or Gardner. Idc how good Gleyber could be he just doesn’t produce on both sides of the ball. And with Gardner I mean cmon he’s like 90 years old he can’t still be starting. And on top of all of this he literally has no idea how to use the bullpen. Sorta like Joe Torre he needs everybody around him to do his job. Just a puppet is an understatement

Although I agree with you, I definitely still have Snitker around B. Might be able to creep up to a very low A. Definitely feel some bullpen choices can be very odd from him, but also feel like Kranitz has a lot of influence there, so is it 100% Snit? Idk. At the end of the day, they know baseball better than I do. But I definitely think I have Snit hovering around high B. (Braves fan if you didn’t realize).
It does feel wrong to have Snitker and Girardi in the same tier as Terry Francona, David Bell, and Tony La Russa. I definitely have both of them above these guys.

    • @jtlevy9113

I understand some of the complaints against Robert’s but imo he’s a good manager. Even though they have lost in some big moments the Dodgers weren’t making it to the World Series without him. They’ve been to the World Series in 3 of his 5 years as manager. No matter how talented your team is baseball is such an unpredictable sport so that’s a surprising amount of success at the beginning of his managing career.

Luis Rojas is the kind of manager that the players love to play for because he’s not about discipline and the players feel more relaxed. I personally think Rojas has to draw a line with the players and discipline them, tell them they’re not playing well and they need to step it up, instead of just showing that he’s a pushover and that the players can do whatever they please.

Went to World Series with Rays, won World Series and broke 100 yr Cubs curse and is playing .500 baseball with Angels team with no Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon as a shell of himself due to injuries and still a very meh pitching staff.
