Yadi definitely is a shell of his former self but teams are still scared to run on him, pitchers are so much more comfortable with him behind the plate, and he is extremely clutch with the bat

Yadi has been a top 3 defensive Catcher since he started playing in St. Louis. He's not the best hitter the cards have, but he has always been someone you like to see at the plate in a clutch situation. He gets on base every time he needs to, but these rankings are based on batting stats, not defensive. Yadi is a beast, and I'm sad to see this be his last year. Hopefully we can find someone who'll be half as good as he is. He's an inspiration to young catchers, he was mine growing up.

I'm A Yankee fan that was saying they should have traded him after the 2018 season. Even at his best he's basically a middle of the pack overall catcher. You can have a bad defensive player, but having your worst defender be the player who is involved in the most plays is a bad idea. Now, he isn't even worth keeping as a DH. He should have been ranked below some minor league players.

I think the dilemma here is that d'Arnaud doesn't have a very good track record. Yes, he had a good 2019 and 2020, but outside of that he hadn't really given much at the plate. His offense in 2021 was much closer to what he had hit previously. With his injury history and below average defense, I can't say I'd rank him any higher.

Genuinely still think JT is 1, but I can’t get mad at Grandal over him right here. They’re both excellent players. Personally I would say JT’s base running gives him an edge because he’s really the only catcher who can name that as an elite (or relatively elite) skill

If anybody tries to say Tom Murphy is anywhere above a bottom 5 catcher in baseball, they are lying. Guy does not catch the ball behind the plate, drops every relay throw, and hits below the Mendoza line. As a mariners fan can’t begin to say how much he hindered the squad last year.

Rather than make a list of who I think is the best, I made a ranking based on who I would want to be on my team for next year. Kind of like if it was an open market and money wasn't a factor. Some of this is projecting, but this is for just next year only, not necessarily who I would want long term.
