The next year, the Oakland A's had their moneyball season, but it's also infamous for the Oakland nearly blew an 11-0 run lead. They won with a walkoff homerun to make it 12-11.
There is also another unwritten rule Woodward, it's called "win with class & lose with dignity"!!! He comes across like a complete sore loser and he is a bitter little man.
Tingler used to work under Woodward in the Texas Rangers organization before managing the Padres. Tingler got fired last year for his team collasping like the Mets.
You should do a video about former Mets manager Luis Rojas. He knew absolutely nothing about managing. He made multiple strategic mistakes, insisted on the pull-everything -in-the-air to beat the shift cop-out strategy, managed only based on matchups and metrics, fielded a different lineup almost every day, didn't have a clue how to motivate his players, etc. One of the worst managers I've seen.
As a Rangers fan it is embarrassing to have him as our manager. Hasn't had a winning season and they plan on keeping him while getting rid of our past 2 managers after making the playoff all but 3 years and removing them after 1 or 2 losing seasons
Bannister was really really getting bad at the end. He was losing the clubhouse and letting a lot of calls get him ejected. Woodward has been better so far. The rangers are generally a trash team. Buck showalter struggled to win with that organization. Chris Woodward wouldn't have gotten any of the good jobs with real teams.
As a Mariners fan, I respected Chris as a 3rd base coach and all he did for the Mariners as a coach and coordinator. But once he left for the Dodgers that’s where it changed. I remember watching the game where he hyped up a home run as they were winning I think by 6 late in the game against the Mariners his former team so he’s a hypocrite for the unwritten rule. Look I get the Yankees stadium so I would be mad if the home run would’ve been an out in most other ballparks. But 26/30 of the ballparks idk what he’s on. He’s just a dumb guy with the comments and his way of the ‘unwritten rules’ and should focus on his team after they spend almost half a billion dollars during the offseason.
Why would it matter if it would be an out in other parks anyway? Its not like its 314 down the line for the Yankees and pushed back for the visitors. Rangers had 27 outs to hit homers in a "little league park", so did the Yankees. As long as its an even playing field, it doesn't matter.
As an ex Mariner player, the Yankee homerun probably would have hit the wall in the old Kingdome stadium even though right field was only 317 ft. Trust me, I gave up a popup hr to McGuire to right field. As far as the unwritten rule I always heard it was 10 runs or more after 7 innings. Then you don't swing 3-0, and play one base at a time.
@@snerdterguson Tough for me to argue with that actually. Maybe it was because if the team starts giving up (forfeit), then perhaps the fans will give up on coming to the game. Its not so much the losing team giving up, as it is the winning team not rubbing their noses in it. I don't know 7 runs does not seem like its enough. Like I said 10 or more runs after 7, then you kind of take it easy and not try to stretch a single into a double. Just my thoughts :)
man i get using the small park jokes if the yankees players had inflated numbers, but how are you gonna use it as an excuse when both of you had the same opportunities
Wow, that this guy has a job as a major league manager is amazing and is an embarrassment to the game and the team he is managing. Wtf, get rid of this joker
Meh, it was his first couple seasons. Get over it. His strategy and bull pen management is second to none and his players LOVE him, and I say this as a mariners fan. Does a lot for charity too.
Despite being in 1st place, I think Dave Roberts is a pretty weak manager. The Dodgers are great despite Roberts, not because of him. He's too emotionally bonded with his players to make important decisions like benching Bellinger all of last season, benching Max Muncy this season, and replacing Kimbrel as his closer. Managers need to hurt feelings sometimes for the better of a team but he cant do that.
Part of being a good manager is having your guys backs. Players respond well to knowing a slump won’t get you benched for the season. Yes, it’ll lead to times where you ride players who never break out of their slump too long, but it gives all player’s confidence to just continue to work hard knowing playing time isn’t an issue. Remember, these guys are human being who want respect and want to play enough to get paid. The Dodgers are so good that Roberts has all the slack he needs to give players a chance to work it out. If they benched Bellinger, they’d be maybe 2 games better this season? No difference in the standings, but all the difference to Bellingers confidence and adding pressure to all struggling players. It’s a fine line to walk, and this isn’t a video game where you can just bench or trade all under performing players with no repercussions.
@@samorpilla7467 I lean more into that mentality too, but Cody last year is more than your average slump. That season was literally ranked as the worst season by a former MVP. It was historically bad. He should've been benched. And Max should get benched too. And Kimbrel shouldn't be a closer any more. They've had more than enough time to shake off a slump.
I'm a Rangers fan. The issue isn't Woodward, its Jon Daniels. Daniels as GM and now President has not brought in the talent the manager needs to win, especially pitching. Daniels shoud have been fired a few years ago but the owners are gutless.

I’m more pissed at the Dodgers for their habit of sending their 3rd base runner to “go on contact”. And then the runner gets easily gunned down when the ball doesn’t even make it out of the infield. What a waste of a runner…
It’s a puzzle to me how anybody even gets a job as a third base coach or first base exactly. I wonder if any teams actually track some sort of stats for them or just use it as an honorary position.
I just feel like making fun of the stadium being small is in a way calling out your own players for not being able to hit the ball out of a "little league ballpark"
Actually it’s called the Texas heat bud it’s better playing indoors at 78 degrees than 100 degrees out in the sun. Not to mention that was a one of many reasons I might add but certainly one of the biggest reasons Texas hasn’t been able to attract big name free agents in previous years especially elite pitchers. But yeah I agree I’m not happy with the job Woodward has done since being here and I think at some point if the needle doesn’t start pointing up the rangers are going to have to make a change. I want to believe in Chris Woodward but I have seen nothing yet that makes me believe he can take us to that next level like Ron Washington did.
@@ryantaylor3828 lol tbh it was nice. I was there a couple weeks ago for the Red Sox game. Yeah, I don't think we can really say whether he is a good manager or not considering the shit teams he was given. I think the it was dumb for him to say what he said, but saying he is the dumbest manager is a stretch.
Ummm…. throwing behind Manny after the Tatis HR, and tossing some shade at the Yankees? That is what you got in order to support labeling him the “dumbest” manager in baseball? Most who aren’t Goose Gosage types think the unwritten rules are dumb at this point, but there are a long list of idiots in front of that line. Hosmer, his teammate, lecturing Tatis after the HR was far, far more egregious. Never mind La Russa all but encouraging the other team to throw at his young player, Mercedes, after his 3-0 HR. No one on the dumb list tops La Russa today IMHO. Obviously, something about this guy really gets to you for some reason.
Not sure if I'd call him "dumb," but certainly you are what your stats say you are. Yankee Stadium, although being new, is modeled after the original with its' right field dimensions. Whatever the case, both teams play in the same "park" at the same time, so his criticism of Yankee Stadium is foolish. His record as a manager sucks.
The original yankee stadium was 285 ft near the left field line, 395 ft straight away left field, 460 ft left center, 490 straightaway center, 425 ft right center, 350 straightaway right field and 295 ft. Yankee stadium from 1976 until 2008 is really “yankee stadium 2” (as it was refurbished) and this ballpark is really yankee stadium lll, which has the same dimensions as yankee stadium ll.
If we’re going to start calling managers dumb for respecting baseball’s unwritten rules, let’s start multiple episode series calling all of them out. Unfair video.
The Rangers had the same odds as the Yankees to hit a homerun to the right field fence , / so what he is really saying is that His players from His Own Team can't even hit in a Little League Baseball Field .. ,,, It just doesn't even make sense to make that statement ,,, /
Woodward is a clown. Calhoun hits a homer in the 7th to RIGHT to tie the game that was 14’ shorter than Torres, not a word said about a short porch or it being a little league field.
idk whats worse losing to a homerun at a little league park or not being able to hit a homerun at a little league park to win... It may be a short porch but both teams have access to it...
Calling him the dumbest in caps is pretty unjustified based on the content there, man. Old school, yeah.. otherwise, he was just standing up for his team, no?
The title was definitely just to get people riled up and watching the video, which you did. So I'd say it was an effective title. Not accurate, but effective.
There was no point for him to stand up for his team with that comment though. Making a random, asinine excuse for why his team lost doesn’t help anybody.

Life long Rangers fan here. While Woody is not a good manager, he is far from being the catalyst of our downfall. Nolan Ryan being pushed out by ownership was the beginning of our demise. He built the club from the ground up, focusing on player development in the minors. Under his leadership, we had the best farm system in baseball. Upon his departure, Jon Daniels took over as GM and began trading away all our minor league talent, thus leaving us with no one to bring up. He has single handedly destroyed the Rangers, focusing only on hitting and allowing our pitching to go into the garbage. Now that he is President of Baseball Operations, I have little hope we will see a decent team here again for, at least, another 10-15 years.
40 year Texas Rangers fan here, Woodward is straight up clown shoes. He simply is the worst manager the franchise has ever had. I look forward to his future termination. ETA: I want Ron Washington back on the bench
Worst manager in the sport, whining about "unwritten rules", whining about the dimensions of Yankee Stadium, and the fact that the Rangers have gotten worse under his "leadership"
The Indians were down by 12 runs to the Mariners in the 7th inning and won. It’s almost like you need to earn 27 outs and keep hitting to win in Major League Baseball.
I have been a Dallas resident since 1967 and a Texas Rangers fan since 1972. Baseball is in my veins... Johnny Oates and Ron Washington are beloved to Rangers fans, and though I readily admit I didn't know much about Chris Woodward when Jon Daniels hired him, but I have no problem with anything he said, whatsoever... If you want to talk about horrible managing, who lifts a pitcher (Ger'man), who just gave up his first hit with 1 out in the 8th, up 4-0 and had only thrown around 85 pitches...and replaces him with Johnathon Loisinga, who had just come off Covid restriction 2 days earlier and pitched the night before? The Yankees lost that game 5-4.... saying a manager is the "worst manager in Baseball" because of what he says "off" the field is irresponsible, in my opinion...I guess that makes me the worst youtube reader in Baseball!
The Yankee Stadium short porsch is a stadium quirk, which makes baseball stadiums cool. There are several stadiums with similar variations and I would hate for the Yankees to do similar to what the Orioles dis to their left field
If people want to complain, how about we talk about the small wall in left at Tropicana Field. Remember 2011 game 162 where the Rays knocked the Red Sox out of the playoffs with a walk-off over the short wall?
what about complaining about too tall walls. Talk about the Green monster, the stands at Target Field. Dimensions are dimensions, you play at a unique stadium, you take the advantages given to you.
Curious what his actual comments you mentioned at the end were, the Yankees guy only mentioned the 99% thing in his reply and obviously that part was a sarcastic joke/phrase while he was just wrong about the distance but given it landing in like the 4th row if that’s rly a homerun in 26 stadiums maybe we should retire that reputation for Yankee stadium
I knew where it was going from your set-up but after you said it’s a crazy short field and I saw the home run clip I would’ve said the same thing it’s just a wrong reputation
Does anyone else think that he basically threw his own team under the bus? What does it say about his team of Major League hitters (who are in the Majors for a reason) that they were only able to score 1 run in a game at a "Little League field"?
I’m a Rangers fan, and don’t just love Chris. But c’mon. You said nothing about on-field, game management, decisions. Just a couple times Woodward was butt-hurt because of rules of baseball etiquette. Hardly qualifies him as MLB’s worst manager.
I remember watching this video a while back. But I thought of this video and channel when I am sitting here in my favorite bar tonight (8/15/22) and I see in the news ticker on the TVs that read Rangers manager Woodward fired. I guess you got your wish.
He's not being dumb. I live in New York and I'll tell you he's right. Here's why. The short right field porch made sense in the old Yankee Stadium which was built in 1923 within a city block as most ballparks were back in the day. They were mostly asymmetrical with odd dimensions. You would see the same thing with the Polo Grounds and Ebbets Field. Now take a look at the dimension of Yankee Stadium back then: 295 ft. (right), 490 ft. (center), and 281 ft. (left). What is presently "Monument Park" was the actual center field it ;was the deepest in the American League. One Yankee pitcher said: "The difference between Yankee Stadium and Yellowstone Park is that Yellowstone has bears." So naturally, the Yankees became a haven for left handed sluggers like Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Maris and Jackson, later on Mattingly. Of course with the refurbishing of the stadium in the 70's they reconfigured the fences in CF and in LF, but did nothing to the RF fence. So any pitcher would feel claustrophobic with that short right field porch sitting right there. But since it was THE Yankee Stadium, nobody would dare say anything. Fast forward to today; athletes are much better and stronger than previous generations. the bandboxes of the past have made way for the concrete and steel ballparks that while comfortable are still challenging to play in. But not the modern Yankee Stadium whose dimensions are straight out of the 1920's Left field - 318 ft (97 m) Left center - 399 ft (122 m) Center field - 408 ft (124 m) Right center - 385 ft (117 m) Right field - 314 ft (96 m) Backstop - 52 ft 4 in. Babe Ruth would be right at home. But to the modern day pitcher, it's still a band box. Now, one could argue that expansion has "watered down" the pitching, but that would also hold true for hitters as well. With today's sports science and technology, it's tough for pitchers to survive. And managers have to ameliorate a lot of pitchers fragile psyches. So to call him "dumb' when he's just doing what a manager would do if his hitter had an argument with an umpire and got thrown out, to me, is missing the point. And the "unwritten rules" that people rail about have more to do with "sportsmanship" than anything else. You see, professional baseball was played in era when people were less civil than they are today; compared to those generations, we're rather soft. And baseball was more of rough and tumble game than what you see now. You wouldn't have wanted to play against John McGraw or Ty Cobb if you lived back then. Fighting, spiking people and getting drunk off your a*s was the order of the day. So much so, that Ban Johnson who formed the American League, made prohibiting alcohol at games a selling point for the league. Learn the history of the game and you'll appreciate the present game more.
@@SoggyMs Oh, for you hard of reading, let me guide you: 1. He was right to complain; the short right field porch IS a "Little League ballpark"/ 2. The original dimensions of YS were originally deeper; Monument Park WAS part of the field of play. It was over 460 feet to dead center. The only other park deeper was the old Polo Grounds. 3. The renovations in the 70's reflected the realities of modern day play. The short RF fence was still in place-just moved back 15 feet. 4. Being from New York and having been to both iterations of the old Yankee Stadium and knowing some history, gives me a better insight than let's say some random knucklehead commenting on the subject and the length of my previous post. Thanks for playing, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. 😶

He made multiple strategic mistakes, insisted on the pull-everything -in-the-air to beat the shift cop-out strategy, managed only based on matchups and metrics, fielded a different lineup almost every day, didn't have a clue how to motivate his players, etc. One of the worst managers I've seen.

Bannister was really really getting bad at the end. He was losing the clubhouse and letting a lot of calls get him ejected. Woodward has been better so far. Most of the time he's not that bad of a guy. He says some really really stupid shit and almost exclusively says dumb shit with the spotlight on him. But overall he isn't as bad as his image is

The second Bronx zoo is the only place that Gleyber Torres would have been a home run.
@@brentknackert8412 unwritten rules are horrible. If one team wants the other to stop trying, then go to the umpire and say you forfeit.
I fucking love Boone saying "99% is impossible, there are 30 parks" that's what I'm saying
If the yankees can hit hrs to right why can't the other team? It's not like the porch extends and retract
Lmao they hit one over the short porch yesterday that would’ve been out only there and I think Boston
You should’ve saved this title for Tony La Russa

I’m not saying he’s a great manager but usually when your roster sucks, you’re not going to win many games.
Despite the right field porch, Yankees Stadium is a pitcher's park rather than a hitter's park.

He built the club from the ground up, focusing on player development in the minors. Under his leadership, we had the best farm system in baseball. Upon his departure, Jon Daniels took over as GM and began trading away all our minor league talent, thus leaving us with no one to bring up.
Bro you really typed out an entire essay and half of it is just ramblings without any points
@@SoggyMs Oh, for you hard of reading, let me guide you:
1. He was right to complain; the short right field porch IS a "Little League ballpark"/
