Metal Gear is a series of action-adventure stealth video games created by Hideo Kojima and developed and published by Konami. The first game, Metal Gear, was released in 1987 for MSX home computers. The player often takes control of a special forces operative (usually Solid Snake or Big Boss), who is assigned the task of finding the titular superweapon "Metal Gear", a bipedal walking tank with the ability to launch nuclear weapons.
Several sequels have been released for multiple consoles, which have expanded the original game's plot, adding characters opposing and supporting Snake, while there have also been a few prequels exploring the origins of Metal Gear and recurring characters. The third game in the series, Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation, marked the beginning of a whole new line of 3D for Metal Gear. As of March 2018, over 53.8 million copies of games in the franchise have been sold worldwide, with individual installments critically and commercially acclaimed and receiving several awards.
The series is credited for pioneering and popularizing stealth video games and "cinematic video games". Notable traits of the series include stealth mechanics, cinematic cutscenes, intricate storylines, offbeat and fourth wall humour, and exploration of cyberpunk, dystopian, political and philosophical themes, with references to Hollywood films to add flavor. The franchise has also been adapted into other media, such as comics, novels, and drama CDs. Solid Snake also appeared as a guest character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

in regards to the sprinting speed, that's actually not even the highest. With the mechanical arm mobility upgrade, Venom is actually faster than Usain Bolt, and in Reflex Mode, his sprinting speed is comparable to bullet fire, not as fast, but almost as fast. The best movement feat is actually at the end of the MSX games when Solid escapes Outer Heavens detonation and clears kilometers on foot before the nuke goes off. Not to mention, Venom's sprinting speed is with equipment and things that can restrict movement and slow him down, while Usain's best was done in a hyper specific situation with the least amount possible of factors that could slow him down, such as extremely light and loose clothing, proper footwear, and more.

The MGS games are cinematic, but they really wouldn't work as movies. The connection we feel to Snake is through becoming him, being totally immersed in who he is, where he is, and being right there with him for his greatest successes and failures. It makes us feel the confusion of battlefield mayhem, while also being able to accept the ridiculousness of hiding in a cardboard box right in the middle of it. An in-universe movie could be cool, but I don't think you can tell a Metal Gear story without it being a game. It would be missing so much that gives the series its heart. Its hard enough for filmmakers to bridge the gap between absurdist comedy, existential dread, and the brutal realities of death and war, and all of those are staples of MGS.

They are both Big Boss, that is in the words of the original Big Boss, (EDIT)BTW if you are trying to see how powerful the OG Big Boss(Naked Snake)was, The only difference between playing as either Big Boss (in Ground zeroes) or venom (In Phantom pain)in each game is the prosthetic arm and the companions, everything else is the same.

@@Foreseen3 A whole ass bipedal, anthropomorphic version of Rex was developed in the 1980s. Computers were just taking shape in 84'. Not to mention a refined version of the Abrams tank (Shagohod) in 1964. You can put your tin foil hat on and say the U.S. government is decades ahead of the rest of the world but who's to say a prototype nanomachine protocol wasn't developed before the events of Metal Gear 1.
Man, that one AI pod that you had to use homing missiles on in Peace walker(I think it was called Chrysilis). I moved the save to PPSSPP on PC, and just love the 60 fps cheat. I hated how clunky the controls were with the portable ops games.

Was hoping someone else noticed how bad that remix was. Honestly the MGSV theme from earlier was pretty badly remixed as well, the pitch bending on the voice was so wrong and the beat was really off time.
I love how old Metal Gear painted him as a traitor and a villain but MGS3, Peace Walker and V showed him as a tragic hero.

I still love this franchise though.
I totally respect your opinion and really liked this video, but the two big bosses were already pretty old when they fought against Snake, so I guess it would make more sense to compare all these guys' abilities in their prime. To think Snake learned most skills from big Boss and big Boss learned them from the Boss, I think that, If big boss was the same age as Snake when they fought, he would have, at best won and, at worst, it would be a draw.
Big Boss is stated to be at his strongest in the MSX games, per the MGSV guidebook.

Since Solid had the recessive genes, would it not mean that he was basically weaker and less durable than Big Boss ( possibly even Venom)?
It seems he was so interesting and beloved character, because he had fought many oponents, most of them stronger than him and had to find a way to outmatch them through skill and inventionality.

Honestly, this is an incredibly underrated series. I'm gathering it was inspired by Comicvine completely misinterpreting the feats of the characters in the series which they do frequently. I guess the most accurate thing is that the feats within Metal Gear Solid can be pretty inconsistent, nonetheless this is incredibly well covered and paints a good picture. Would love to see you do Liquid Snake as well as his feats... are... just hilarious.
Liquid doesn't really have many feats of his own. Surviving a hind helicopter crash,surviving the fall from rex and immediately getting up,surviving being shot in the face with stingers during the rex fight thats about all we have. The best way to get an idea of how strong is liquid is to just say that anything solid snake has done or can do he can aswell. He probably is better than solid in some things like how if you jump off of rex in mgs1 you(snake) dies but liquid Survives.

Of course MGSV even gives "Eli" feats of his own like going one to one with Venom Snake... sure he didn't win but he caused trouble for a lot of the diamond dogs.

Dang I cant believe I'm just now finding these videos. A little over a year ago while I was at work, I came up with this whole concept of power scaling of just about every metal gear character, using the mgspw/mgsv letter grade system as well as the mgspw/mgsv abilities concepts. I made so many notes covering each character lol. My ultimate conclusion was that bb was at his peak in mgspw, ranking an S++ while Solid snake matched him in mg2/mgs1. But it's so interesting to do deep dives on everyone's feats. Venom snake is such an enigma, his mgsv feats make him a contender with both solid and bb. But the most op character overall ended up being Raiden lol. Pre mgs4 I would have laughed at the idea, but he changed so much it's crazy.
Ok so I think it'd be Solid Snake, then big boss, then raiden as top 3 secret agents. They're all fucking op but solid snake I think is more so due to the fact that he can do most stuff big boss can, all the while not being as funded as big boss is.
Hands down the most epic intro of and for Big Boss.

Man this is badass. What a video. I was renting the NES Metal Gear when video games were still considered toys. Matter of fact, I have a VHS Nintendo Tips and Tricks with a young man using the NES Advantage and displaying passwords and winning tips for games like the original Metal Gear, Iron Tank by SNK, Lifeforce by Konami and some other killer games. It's TRUE though, especially later Solid games.l, that Snake is a sort of demi human. So does that mean Eva passed on supernatural traits to the boys herself?

I gotta disagree on the fire resistance, your right they normally would be able to resist and be unaffected but you gotta remember solid snakes body is breaking down making him much more susceptible to damage and sickness hence the constant coughing in game and cut scenes in mgs4 and big boss although legendary he's still human he was damaged by volgins fists and bullets during the torture hell he even had the boss hand force a tracker in his back they can be hurt.

Ahab was already bordering on supersoldier, he was Big Boss' best soldier. Couple that with hypnotherapy, surgery and more that he underwent while and immediately after his coma, while not exact, he's close to Big Boss as he technically experienced everything Big Boss did, on top of already being a good soldier bordering on superhuman himself. I wouldn't say Venom is equal with Big Boss, literally just because of a few stray genes that Big Boss has that gives him a few objective benefits, as well as being more cunning (Though Venom probably picked up and closed the gap a bit) but Venom is the closest you could get without literal cloning. He's not literally Big Boss, just like 95%, to the point most can't tell the difference unless you're like a Super AI like Peace Walker.
Because in metal gear if you believe in something hard enough, it becomes true. Like when Big Boss was told eating glowing mushrooms would recharge his batteries as a joke, but he did it and it actually recharged his batteries because he believed hard enough it would.
Damn i played all the games so many times, i never knew Bigboss was in the green beretts. I only thought snake did. 😰

Sir...thank you so much i have been searching that for years seriosly.I only got to play mgsv and have over 100hrs of playtime and nearly the plat trophie.Mgs gz i 100 percented....I am so sad that I just hadnt got the chance to play all the other games because at the time i was too young.I was born in 2002 and I just missed out on all the games and mgsv literally changed my life.The only video game ever that did that to me.When I had to kill my infected Man and had to loose quit.....that just breaks you.I like solid snake and V the most from the main characters.Great video to btw.I hope you have a awesome holiday season and.........
