Metal Gear (Japanese: メタルギア, Hepburn: Metaru Gia) is a series of action-adventure stealth video games created by Hideo Kojima and developed and published by Konami. The first game, Metal Gear, was released in 1987 for MSX home computers. The player often takes control of a special forces operative (usually Solid Snake or Big Boss), who is assigned the task of finding the titular superweapon "Metal Gear", a bipedal walking tank with the ability to launch nuclear weapons.
Several sequels have been released for multiple consoles, which have expanded the original game's plot, adding characters opposing and supporting Snake, while there have also been a few prequels exploring the origins of Metal Gear and recurring characters. The third game in the series, Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation, marked the beginning of a whole new line of 3D for Metal Gear. As of June 2020, over 56 million copies of games in the franchise have been sold worldwide, with individual installments critically and commercially acclaimed and receiving several awards.
The series is credited for pioneering and popularizing stealth video games and "cinematic video games". Notable traits of the series include stealth mechanics, cinematic cutscenes, intricate storylines, offbeat and fourth wall humour, and exploration of cyberpunk, dystopian, political and philosophical themes, with references to Hollywood films to add flavor. The franchise has also been adapted into other media, such as comics, novels, and drama CDs. Solid Snake has also gone on to appear in other games, such as the Super Smash Bros. series and Ape Escape 3.

BEFORE YOU COMMENT - This video is over a year old and I still get the same comments so I’ll say this here in case you want to be one of those guys.
The point regarding Sam’s Quick Draw is that it was able to blitz both the start of Rising Raiden AND Armstrong; the game's final boss who contends with Raiden at his strongest. Even if Raiden doesn’t have Sam’s Quick Draw, all that proves is that his normal sword swings are slower than Sam’s ability.
Raiden’s statement saying Snake is unstoppable would therefore mean he thinks Snake would be able to react to the Quick Draw or just beat Sam before he could even use it, which would both inform Snake’s superiority to Raiden.
The argument that Raiden is just a fanboy or biased towards Snake doesn’t hold up. For starters, like I state in the video, Raiden knows the ins and outs of Snake as a fighter; he’s walked in his shoes and has knowledge of most of his feats in scaling.
Even in the game itself, Kev jokes that Raiden’s a Snake fanboy, but then immediately concedes that Raiden just knows Snake so well, making my interpretation more so consistent with what’s stated in the game.
It’s also just a really weird position to me; most protagonists in fiction are admirable and also have in-universe statements about their prestige. Is Captain America not the greatest soldier in the MCU just because people like him? Is anyone in Dragon Ball biased when they call Goku a good fighter just because he’s a nice guy who’s saved the world?
Regarding the whole feats vs statements thing; feats supersede statements when there is a CONTRADICTION between the two. So if Zack Snyder says his Superman can’t fly, that’s an impossible interpretation to maintain because we see him fly in the movie.
Raiden saying Snake is unbeatable compared to what he’s seen can not be proven to be impossible, you’d need some anti-feat to prove Snake can’t scale to Raiden; there are none.
Raiden throwing both Metal Gear’s has been calculated to require far less energy than his tanking of EXCELSUS' destruction. Even if he threw the pyramid of Giza above the clouds it’d be less of an impressive feat (~100 trillion joules VS ~700 trillion joules)

More kinetic energy is produced via blunt force than lifting or throwing something; tanking a dumbbell falling on your face is more impressive when comparing who can endure getting hit harder than just doing a curl.
Peace Walker is stated to be able to tank a nuclear war, the Metal Gear’s are stated to get stronger over time, Gray Fox tanks having a Metal Gear blow up on top of him in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake on the MSX. Snake is then able to beat and bloody up that same Fox.
Nuclear bombs are consistently City level, the best feat in Rising (Raiden tanking Excelsus’ destruction) is Town Level. Meaning Snake, with his bare hands, can output an excess of energy found within nuclear bombs. Look up the difference between Attack Potency and Destructive Capacity before replying to that btw.
So even based on feats, Snake has the feats to support him being in Raiden’s tier if not just being quantifiably far more powerful.
People have complained that my posting of my Discord server is plugging it? The only money I’ve made from Discord is from people going out of their way to join my Patreon to ask me questions about power scaling.
I feel that Voice Chat is just a superior and an optimal method for debating these types of things. Scheduling a debate, going back and forth with someone in real time while all of our points are exchanged in typically around an hour's time is far better than sending paragraph after paragraphs for months at a time (I’ve seen it happen).
This opinion is shared by many prolific power scalers on TH-cam such as SethTheProgrammer and KeyIssues who I both consistently collaborate with to this day (humble flex). Voice Chat debating is also just genuinely more fun to me than text.

I'ma be the nerd here. He has accelerated aging due to the nano bots that contanstly regenerate his wounds in combat. Effectivly using his bodies nutrients to quickly heal.

The reason that the Murasama didn’t cut through Armstrong when Raiden used it is because he wasn’t using the quick draw. He actually threw away the sheath, making the quick draw impossible.

The one and only Solid Snake. Hero of Outer Heaven, Zanzibarland, Shadow Moses... The list goes on. In terms of pure combat ability, he’s one of the greatest soldiers I’ve ever seen. But it’s not only that... He knows what’s right, and he just gets it done. Period. No one can stop him.

There's a few things I'd like to point out: MGR Raiden can deflect bullets, and his ninja run in MGR is faster than the running speed of Old Snake. Also, while he is really tough, Snake couldn't tank a HF blade hit. And there's no way Old Snake is stronger than MGR Raiden, because he probably couldn't pick up a Metal Gear. You have to remember that while Snake has done some VERY impressive things, MGS4 Snake is... Well, old

@Big Boss Well yeah, Snake would probably be a LOT better at CQC than Raiden, but guns wouldn't work well, since Raiden can deflect bullets. Also, Raiden does know some CQC, and while Snake is much better at it, Raiden is much faster and physically stronger than Snake, and can take a LOT more beating than Snake

I don't remember the specific number, but in the games, just a few shots from guns can be extremely devestating to Snake

@@TOAOeraYou ignored the scaling chunk of why Snake is stronger/scales to his strength. Also, the best lifting strength feat in the series is literally Pre-mgr, it was done by Raiden in MGS4. Vamp obviously scales to that via fighting Raiden to a standstill, and Snake still CQC holds Vamp.

I get that you're trying to scale these characters, but I don't see Solid Snake lifting up a 10 Million KG robot and throwing it around a city. Raiden is insanely powerful and skilled, but people seem to forget Snake and Big Boss each went against supernatural + cybernetic beings and came out on top despite each being merely human.
Although Gray Fox's exoskeleton is most definitely inferior to Raiden's suits, he still had superhuman capabilities, yet Snake as of MGS1 was capable of defeating him in hand-to-hand combat. Snake during MGS4 (Physically weakest state) was able to keep up with Vamp, who could fight against Raiden and even get the upper hand on him. There are many more opponents of this caliber Snake has defeated in combat. He has faced Fox Hound, the B&Bs, Various Metal Gears, Venom Snake, and Big Boss himself.
As far as I remember, Snake's only outright defeat was against Fortune... but the situation was entirely stacked against him. He had no method of landing a hit on her, and she was using a Railgun. They were also in an open arena. I would have called bullshit if he got out of that no problem.
Raiden is obviously more powerful than Snake, but so were most of Snake's major contemporaries. That didn't stop him from defeating and killing most of them when thrown into combat against them... That being said, Raiden would probably be the most powerful humanoid opponent Snake has ever gone against if they fought. Snake would need to bring in his A-game just to win.
Raiden could just throw him hard enough to break Snake's old man back. Remember, MGS4 made back pain a gameplay mechanic, so he canonically has sciatica or something.

He can disarm swords as venom snake has done it before, venom snake sharing similiar skills but being inferior to big boss and snake being traiden by and stronger than big boss could react to the sword and even use it against raiden. Raiden has a lesser chance of winning h2h due to snake being extremely more skilled.

Didn’t QuickDraw come from Sams swords sheathe not the sword itself? If I remember correctly Raiden doesn’t use that in his fight with Armstrong.
I have a few issues
1. Raiden losing to vamp happened when Radian was still relatively inexperienced so comparing rising's version of him to snake and saying snake is more skilled cuz he did something a less experienced Raiden couldn't is a flawed point
2. just because Raiden says snake is unstoppable doesn't mean he can do all the same things Raiden can, characters can be wrong or it could just be a complementary exaggeration, and without evidence proving it to be the case, it cannot be assumed that Snake is a strong, or durable as Raiden as without that, Raiden's words are just those, words.
i feel like the argument you made where raiden couldn't slice and dice armstrong in ripped blade mode shouldn't be there cuz its gameplay. it would be pretty anti-climacteric if armstrong went out like a bitch after raiden cuts him up because the nanomachines didn't harden fast enough. and sam cut armstrong's arm in a cutscene and raiden pierced armstrong's heart in a cutscene or and ending QTE

@@mrbrit8842 uhm, metal gear ray is 500 metric tons, raiden lifted a MGR at that start that is supposed to be lighter because of the armor and for it to be easily transformed , BB lifted metal gears zeke 500 ton arm and 323 500.400 metric ton cocoon (both in peacewalker).
snake is a superior soldier to BB as he only carried his best genes.

Sam was in the same position and the Quick Draw was fast enough to sever the limb before the nanos could harden, so Quick Draw > Blade Mode.

Quickdraw does come from sams sheathe. It shoots the sword out of it like a projectile, sam just directs the sword letting the energy that launched it flow freely.

However i can see snakes victory through skill and good use of inviroment, but he would need more than bullets and cqc, he would need something like emp and such. Also raiden does know snake quite well, but i guess that snake cuold come up with something unorthodox. But no prep time puts raiden in quite the adventagious spot. Its a hard topic, that would require specific analysis of enviroment and base equipment. And what raiden said about snake is quite true, but this battle is heavily gonna rely on terrain, so for me its inconclusive.
The point is that the Quick Draw is faster than Raiden and Raiden said Snake was unstoppable compared to the Quick Draw.
Snake has better feats than Raiden, Gray Fox can deflect bullets and Snake can beat him in H2H. There’s also the nuke level scaling from my Sam video which would apply to Snake. And Raiden saying that is combat skill and will makes Snake’s unstoppable.
The Sam feat makes no sense due to the fact that Sam used a Hilt that shoots out the sword at very high speed which would also allow him to cut off the arm raiden yes in his ninja mode can slice fast but shooting out some thing and slicing down some things are completely different

Why didn't you talk about their movement/travel speed? Being equal or relative in combat and reaction speed doesn't matter if your opponent can move much faster than you or how you can be fast enough to react to something but not fast enough to avoid the attack.
You did say it power and skill doesn't matter if you get blitzed.

Yes, Snake and Raiden are at least relative in power as well as combat and reaction speed. But (hypothetically) in terms of travel speed, if Snake is at least Relativistic+ and Raiden (with both Blade & Ripper Mode) is FTL to FTL+. What's stopping Raiden from speed blitzing Snake?
@@theboss5788 So let’s say he just runs up to Snake super fast, Snake can still react to and outskill any actual attack Raiden performs. Also Raiden explicitly needed a jet to cross the globe in a certain timeframe, definitely not FTL+ travel speed. Don’t know where that comes from. It’d essentially be like Usain Bolt VS Mike Tyson.

It depends on which version of Raiden. If it's MGS2 Raiden, then either one of the two have a chance to crush him. If this is MGRR Raiden, especially the variant that went up against Armstrong, well, neither Snake nor Big Boss will stand a chance.

the whole 44 minute to 46 minute mark is wrong and not taking in context. Jetstreams attack is so fast because of the sheathe he uses. When Raiden used it he was just swinging it. Also Jetstream was fighting a weaker Armstrong or atleast Armstrong was not fighting as hard against Sam as his final battle against Raiden. Also just a note. When defeated the robot dog analyzed the Jetstream Sams cyberog implants were at a minimal.
Not out of context, Raiden having the sheath or not is irrelevant. It's showing that after Raiden gets blitzed by an attack (due to Sam's sheath or not), he states that Snake is > anything he's experienced. Which presents the possibility of Snake being faster than the quick draw. Also Armstrong not fighting Sam with his full power is a stretch, we see in the Sam DLC that Sam floors Armstrong while slashing at him while his nanomachines have hardened his entire body. So no matter what Sam would scale to Armstrong's (and Raiden's) peak AP/durability.

Lets assume it does raiden would just slash again as consequtive attacks weaken bonds which is why you can't just slash *everything* in one slash and raiden is fast enough to slash many times before they even can react at all

If snake is like city block town level potency, why.. is any metal gear a threat? Why can't he just punch it and make the thing crumple if not outright turn the thing into a fine powdered mist? Their armor isnt that powerful, rockets, homing missles, and c4 have consistently been used to destroy them. The fact that snake cant even put a dent in one means he's less powerful than previously mentioned explosives.
Exactly. The whole point of having MGR's first boss be 4's final boss is to show that the world has moved on and that war has evolved. Raiden beating one head to head is meant to set new stakes and a new bar of power.

Just because BB was willing to get even stronger and the fact that he would never give up, doesn't really justify that 60 yo BB was on equal footing with prime Solid Snake. Age catches up no matter what one does. Even a superhuman can't beat the effects of time. Now that this is out of the way, I would like to know how Prime Solid Snake would beat a Prime Big Boss in a CQC duel. From the way I see it, BB would win most of the times unless we count the fact that Snake has an IQ of 180 and can somehow outsmart him (Since we don't know how smart BB is). All the rest in the video is reasonable and I 100% agree :)

The solid snake meatriding is crazy. Your one and only piece of "evidence" that he wouldn't get blitzed by any Rising character is because Raiden praises him once in a throwaway line.

The only evidence for Sasori being stronger than Deidara is because the latter said so despite having better feats than the former.
The only evidence for Ssj2 Goku being stronger than Ssj2 Teen Gohan and Super Perfect Cell is because Vegeta said so.
Take the statements Goku only surpasses the Cell Saga with Ssj3 and Sasori is the second weakest of the Akatsuki.

So i see here in comments that everyone has their own biases and its okay but if we are only talking about snake's and raiden's prime then we have to consider mgs1 mgs2 mgs4 and mgr. Everyone knows that the feats displayed by raiden in mgr are unreal considering metal gear standards and i think raiden is way more superior in his strength ( picking up metal gear excelsus and the worst possible leverage and throwing it and it was comparitively easy for him) speed (Able to slow time not literally and using zandatsu) and durability so we shouldnt bring raiden from mgs4 into comparing the fight between solid snake and raiden that would deserve a different video but it is about prime versions of the respective characters so yeah i think raiden wins

Raiden is my favorite character and mgs2 is my favorite game in the series. I'm not even counting rising here, but raiden could easily take snake, greyfox, bigboss, ect. Other than vamp, raiden is the strongest in the series. That being said, I imagine if raiden fought snake, he would pull a grey fox and attempt to take him on hand to hand. Snake knows CQC and I don't think raiden does, and that's about the only way snake would win imo.

You like power scaling, you should know anything we've seen snake do outside of mgs4 and the nes titles, has been done by raiden in VR. This would scale him to have anything snake has, but not vice versa, leaving raiden with more feats. Other than what I previously mentioned about snake knowing CQC and raiden only knowing CQB, snake has no advantages.

snake has hypersonic reaction speeds, he dodged railgun fire which travels at 33 thousand KM per second, raidens attacks are slow in comparison to his reaction speeds, and as per stated, snake knows CQC, so he'll disarm raiden before he can deal serious damage on his nanos.

They probably wouldn't make it very far past Sam without enhancements. I focus on Sam because Sam is probably one of the toughest of the group's but he doesn't have enhancements. Monsoon would probably be their hardest fight. Just the fact he self dissects makes it pretty hard to deal with. Minstral and Sundowner would definitelt be taken down easily. Shields wouldn't stop snake, and a bunch of bots wouldn't help minstrel.

Twin Snakes is a GameCube exclusive. It's essentially MGS1 with an updated (for 2003) soundtrack, voice overs, and the graphic fidelity and gameplay mechanics of MGS2.
