Nice choice mate. You can buy relays at Supercheap or Jaycar. 15 bucks. That will sort your hyperflashing problem. Don't forget to bypass the side stand switches, clutch switch. Have a look at the sprocket seal retention bracket. (Can be bought from Suzuki) If you are game you can look into modifying the carb for more pep when snapping the throttle open. Pretty easy going just adjust the accelerator pump. Don't forget to Loctite tour stator bolts! Advice from a bloke with a 2006 drz with 35,000km. Cheers!
Hey. Jump onto hardy parts. For all your DR and DRZ parts. Front sprocket/case saver cover. And also a headlight protector. Aussie designed and made here in gympie QLD.
I had one of these a few years back but sold it for a supersport (sadface). Recently got back into dirt and decided on a DR650 and loving it but watching this makes me miss the DRZ soooooo much. It's a true do it all end of days weapon of a bike and anyone who has this bike on their shortlist, buy it!....buy it now! Unless you're at a 450cc pro racer skill level you will never out ride this bike!
When you have the tank off it’s a good opportunity to run a second spare clutch cable. Cheap insurance. Also an led headlight bulb can save power to run other accessories. I believe the safari tank comes with a petcock because the stock one is prone to failure, like mine did. When I put the lower Seat Concepts seat on I needed to lower the pegs and used David Knight lower wider pegs.
Ole Chappy is a man of few words... "Yep". But he's a heck of a good rider! I guess he talks with his skills.👍 This DRZ 400 is going to morph into a real riding machine. You Ausies have it going on! ~FUN VIDEO!~
Hello Mark and Chappy; Congratulations on the new Bike...this is going to be an exciting project. Keep safe Bonus Video which makes me and in fact all of us who follow you...HAPPY!
Nice. Great bikes. Look forward to seeing more. Got an old 2000 drz400 myself. She's very battered and bruised but I love her. Bought from a mate about five years ago. He'd had her from new. He was moving back to the UK and the bike was going to cost way more to get it all legal and road worthy than it was worth. He let me have her for 600€.The best 600€ I've ever spent!! Luckily(for the time being anyway🙄) we don't have obligatory "road worthy" tests for motorcycles here in France. I live in the foothills on the Mediterranean tail end of the Pyrenees and rarely need to use her on proper roads to get up into the hills. Hope Chappy gets as much joy and pleasure from his as I have from mine. Cheers
When heat shrinking over all cable joins I use some glued heat shrink from Middys has glue inside it as you heat it it actives glue keeps all dirt out of joins
Hi guys great vid, just a little advice for Chappy to torque up the front sprocket and also put the bloody locktite on the end of the threads not half way down the bolt 😂😂😂
Quick tip. As a rule of thumb, metric bikes use 10, 13, 17 & 19mm fixings. That's it. You'd be hard pressed to find any other sizes unless somebody has put aftermarket parts on. Those sizes are the only size spanners I carry on the bike for the odd roadside repair.
Mx store have plug and play resistors to slow those indicators down i think they are about 15 bucks for a set of 2 you will need 2 sets cheers . Keep up the great work Mark
Looks the same as mine...which is a 2001 model! Good choice!! I modded mine a fair bit, one of the essentials is the muffler, that stock is way too restrictive and way too loud when uncorked. The Barrett is fantastic, straight through but not loud. Really let’s it breathe. Stainless steel packing means it doesn’t need repacking. 15/44 is the best gearing, but mine is bored/stroked to 472cc so handles the gearing better.
Mark your channel is rocking with 👍🏼 top shelf content. That bikes looking sweet and ready for all kinds of bullshi....., adventure. “Keep on Recording, and if Ya ain’t Recording, Keep On Keeping On”. 😎 🇺🇸 🌎
Easy way to undo or tighten front sprocket nut is to simply stand on the other side of the bike and put your foot on the brake pedal while leaning over and undoing the nut.
Your existing blinkers (bulb) draw more load and the standard blinker relay is expecting to see that load as it sets the flash rate. Two ways around it....swap out your blinker relay for an LED compatible one (the better method) Second is to fit load resisters ,one each side to simulate the load of the existing filament lamps, not as good but it works and there are thousands of bikes out there with them. Rizoma at one time used this method, they still may,Oxford products sell kits but they are just wire wound ceramic coted resistors in a heat shrink sleeve with short wires and bullet connectors.... When going from a 21 watt incandescent turn signal to an LED turn signal, select the 18W / 8.5Ohm resistor When going from a 10 watt incandescent turn signal to an LED turn signal, select the 8W / 21.5Ohm resistor Sold as a pair normally and one per side is all thats required.
When the next video, im about to start a drz400e build in the next month , and loving seeing you guys doing one prior to.... keep up the good work love ya vids👍🍻
This is a really good project Mark.I have been going around in circles trying to decide which mid adventure bike I'm going to buy around Xmas time when hopefully things open up.I had narrowed it down to the CB500X but they need work therefore money spent to bring up to scratch.Like the KTM390 but too much electronics.Being around 5'9" need to be able to get feet down. This Suzie build has convinced me I can do a bit to it,like pack rack, run the 15/44 for highway etc and get the best of both worlds. Can you fit a centre stand to the Suzie, could live without but prefer the stand, makes puncture repair easier and chain maintenance.
To fix the hyper flashing swap the flasher to one that is LED compatible. Easy to do...take off the headlight shroud and it on the left hand side...also y’all should add a kick start...an OEM kit from eBay in the states is about $190 US...pretty easy to do...takes about an hour or three beers 😁
Love the DRZ’s, have had 2 of them in the past. When you chopped the wires on that original tail light, I would have left a little more length in the original wiring so it could be re-used some time in the future.
Greetings; I have a question; I am 5'4" in the old money, about the same size as Chappy....the seat height on the DRZ400 is bloody high, How does Chappy get on the bike? Has Chappy Lowered the bike? If so how? I am looking for a second bike that I can chuck around some trails in SA...Thanks
Need to fit LED resistors, to slow the flasher rate Mark...get some metal ones online, mount them so they get plenty of air over them, coz they get hot AF, easy to fit too, cheers and loving this new series too mate!
Thanks for all the videos. Awesome experience. I have 2021 Drz400s and just installed the front sprocket case saver. As for the wire holder. Does it matter if is next to the engine or not? I have the spacer next to the engine. And B&B sent me 1 longer spacer. I am guessing it is for the bottom? Keep up the good work 👍🏼 Ted, Florida, USA
Hi guys have u thought about the r&g detachable indicators you can put them in & out take them out when u reach the trails so they dont get bocken snagged on branches or if u drop the bike as indicators can be very vulnerable . Then just pop them back in for the ride home . They are led & are slick design .
as said indicators need a relay . as it thinks a bulb it bust so flashes faster . because LED use less power.plus to make road legal it has to flash slow like original. other than that it's looking good. i rode the super-moto version years ago when they first came out.
G`Day Mark and Chappy, think you will need to replace the Blinker (Indicators) flasher unit for an LED one, then they should flash at the correct speed, great video guys.
'Oh f##k you did a good job'🤣🤣 Your surprise that Chappy did a proper job of deleting the kickstand switch, not everyone just twists wires together Mark!🤣🙈
I am guessing the globes in the flashers are a lower wattage than the originals, you need a higher wattage to put more load on the flasher can to slow them down. I think the originals are 5w from memory, but don’t quote me. Similar effect as when one globe blows the other globe flashes faster.
You need to apply high strength loctite and torque up the CS sprocket. The locking tab does not hold it on. When the nut comes loose oil will come out of your CS seal. Known DR issue.
