You were a fighter with a hero. Praying for his recovery 🙏🏼

Only 10 days in service still didn't hesitate to run in towards a threat. You're a hero officer. And the other officer hats off to your excellent aim and critical thinking during a high stress scenario. You're a hero.
Right? 10 days in service and he did what needed to be done with zero hesitation but a veteran LEO who's the chief of an entire department hid in a parking lot while children died (Uvalde). Not all police are built the same unfortunately.
That he was a firefighter problably helped. Straight into danger to save lifes.
That's the reaction of a true warrior.
@@joshuablakeney2983 yes not everyone has the courage to save others lives while simultaneously endangering their.
That was an idiot move, and like you guys like to say "play stupid games win stupid prizes" he should not have ran up to windows that he cannot see into because of the glare while in an open are with zero cover, this wasn't heroic this was stupidity and lack of training. You guys always jump on the lack of training train in other videos but now it's different??
RIP to the five people who lost their lives and I hope the nine people who were injured make a steady recovery.
Don't do it. A person that can't decide to join or not, is indecisive.
You would not make a great officer.
I am military and one of our qualities is we "jump into action". Just support the officers from home. A weak link kills the chain.
The person above this comment makes a fair point, however, there are programs to help you decide if police work is a good fit for you. If you are under 21 check if your local police department or sheriff's office has an explorer program. It's a good way to get involved with policing, learn about it, how to do it, and ultimately if that's what you want to do in life.
Hope something there helped. Don't get discouraged by people online, but don't totally ignore them either. Take it into consideration but make your own decisions considering, after all, it's your life.
Not shedding a tear for bankers
@Joanca N "bankers?" The ppl basically working an elaborate cash register to make a living? You won't shed a tear for them?

You never know with the brain. So much is still unknown. There's hope.
The below comes with permission from the Wilt Family:
We are pleased to share an update on Officer Nickolas Wilt, who was shot 4 weeks ago today when responding to Old National Bank shooting. Officer Wilt's condition has been improving steadily all week, and he remains on the correct path to recovery.
We are happy to announce that Officer Wilt is officially off the ventilator and all other life-sustaining equipment. Additionally, he has shown neurological improvement and is able to follow some commands. While Officer Wilt is currently dealing with a few infections, he also shows improvement in those areas.
Unfortunately, Officer Wilt still has pneumonia and other lung complications. His progress to this point is remarkable, especially when compared to where he was just two weeks ago. Officer Wilt is entering the "long haul" of his recovery, which will undoubtedly be difficult, but he remains strong and determined.
We are proud to report that doctors are now talking about getting Officer Wilt into Neuro Rehab within the next week, which is a significant milestone in his recovery process. During a procedure today, it’s been determined the bullet is not a threat to the brain or its blood vessels. According to the doctor, the bullet is in a crucial area but for this type of injury the damage is minimal.
The Wilt family and the entire (LMPD) family want to thank everyone for their tremendous amount of support and well wishes during this difficult time. We will continue to provide significant updates on Officer Wilt's condition as they become available.

@@JayJay5244 trauma, injuries.
why would it end both of their careers?
The guy with the rifle should probably retire after getting borderline getting the rookie killed. Leading the rookie in front of a glass wall he couldnt see through was an egregious mistake that was OBVIOUSLY going to go bad. He could have circled around, using the stairs as cover until he could get a look through the entrance. Instead, he abandoned cover in exchange for walking in front of glass he couldnt see through. Now we got a rookie with a bullet in his head.
Edit: Those of you who are thinking that I meant for the cops to pull a Uvalde and stay put outside have no clue what youre talking about. The goal here is to get in a position to BEST enter the premises. You dont leave cover to walk in front of glass. You circle behind cover until you can get a look at the door, and you move POINTING YOUR RIFLE where youre exposed.
Additionally, those of you who are saying that in such situations one "just has to go" are total morons. Guess who cant kill bad guys? Dead cops. At some point you have to risk your life. But that doesnt mean you have to soviet bumrush until you get shot up. Guys, THINK. And you're arguing for a tactic that CLEARLY FAILED. Walking in front of the glass made it a turkey shoot for the shooter.

They truly are great people who do a lot
I work fire and ems and have lots of friends who are dispatchers... couldnt agree more. For every call we physically see they have to hear and take info down about 100 others. The level of courage that rookie must have, 10 days out of school and put in a situation many would cower from. That's like going straight from bootcamp to war. Mad respect to him and all the wishes in the world for him and his family. And to his partner, solid work done. It's near impossible to keep your cool when a buddy goes down, and you can tell he's fighting it, but he did the best anyone could in that situation and found an opportunity to end the threat. Tennessee got to start training police forces across the country.
Not to minimize what Officer Wilt did at all, but his experience as a firefighter helped a lot. Firefighters run into places where people are running out. With this kind of wound it is improbable that Officer Wilt will ever be in uniform again. That is so sad because the city lost someone who had so much to give. Only to one day get a phone call from his roommate that he left a note saying he’s going to his work with a gun to kill people and in that moment you know you have to call the police because it may save lives, while also knowing that by doing so, you may be getting him in serious trouble if he didn’t actually go through with it or it was some kinda weird joke. But also knowing that if it’s true, you’re losing your son in some way. Either by him being shot and killed by the police or himself, or being arrested and put in prison forever. Plus suddenly learning that your child who you never thought could do something like that could now be responsible for ending multiple people’s lives at the same time. I wouldn’t even know what to do with myself.
Mum: "He's never hurt anyone. He's a really good kid"
Son: Goes on shooting rampage
We need to stop this from happening every week. How can we create more awareness for mental health.
No one should lose there life we must make a change. Why is this not a problem in other countries?
Just inexplicably humbling that there are people out there who will, without question, gamble their life to save yours/ours. Complete strangers. They will literally come running to save you. Incredible and there are really no words to express my gratitude.

@gogereaver I used to work at a bank. You'd be terminated for carrying. Banks are woke institutions. They care nothing for the lives of their employees in a scenario like this. They tell you to run hide and fight. Most do. We need federal laws allowing people to carry in the workplace in case thst happens. How many lives would have been spared? Not to mention the brave officer who took a bullet to the head who was just serving his community trying to keep it safe. And how many nightmares do they think his partner will have from the feeling of not being able to pull him off there and treat his wound? This shits gotta stop. More guns in the hands of the good guys = less crime. God bless the officers who saved the rest. And God bless the victims who were injured, and may the ones who passed be woth Him in heaven now. that second caller was surprisingly calm actually being in the building with the shooter. truly brave💪🏼
People react differently to stress. Some break down (first caller), some get numb (second caller), some get angry (third caller). And they are all valid defense mechanisms.
Even with that insanely fast and lethal response, multiple people still died and an officer is in critical condition. Just goes to show how insanely dangerous and chaotic these situations are.
The officer is in critical condition because the AR guy made a terrible call. He abandoned cover and decided to lead the rookie on a walk in front of a glass wall he couldnt see through. Anyone with half a brain would have kept cover behind the stairs and circled until they could get the door in sight. Instead he made a terrible call and got his rookie shot in the head.
Also more reason that people need to be able to carry and defend themselves. Since it doesn't seem these types of attacks are going away anytime soon, as sick as that is to even think about. Someone there could have ended this in the time that it took to even dial 911.
Well it's an open active bank and he has a rifle & it was unexpected, of course people are going to die if his plans are to kill. The initial victims that were encountered had no chance..
@@Immigrantlovesamerica In his defense there was no way of knowing someone was there. They can't just sit still and wait for backup for better recon coz the only recon these officers get is dispatch or a civilian on site.
If they waited they would let the ACTIVE shooter run around while the cops are cautious coz of glass. They could use the civilians as bait though, like pulling a Uvalde.
