The lady is safe, he's no longer a threat to children, he doesn't have to worry about being passed around in prison and the tax payer doesn't have to pay to keep him fed and sheltered for probably the rest of his life. Unless he was innocent. Did he have a prior history? Why would the wife still be in the same house after a true accusation? An accusation like this automatically and immediately ends the normal life of the man accused. Job termination, publicly shamed. He could have been justifiably suicidal.
He pulled a gun so it was a legit shooting but never automatically presume guilt because of accusations.
Downside is the ptsd of the officers. That officer with a shotgun might not have realized what his actions would have looked like. My dad did consoling immediately after events like this. Sometimes officers would contact him months or years later due to the ptsd.

As an apartment maintenance guy i promise you that mess isnt for us to clean up. Theres a whole crime scene cleanup crew provided by the authorities. We just have to put up new drywall, windows, doors, or carpet long afterwards.

yep, police have their own clean-up crew and most self-defense insurance companies hire those same guys, I cleaned apartments for a very short time, someone had to defend themselves self and their defense insurance paid for clean up in unit A3
I used to write condition reports for vehicles at an auto auction, I had a pickup truck come in one day after the driver apparently had his head blown to pieces by a shotgun. I couldn't believe how much of his head was still in the truck! (Including his entire brain) Apparently they don't have clean up crews for vehicles lol

Oooo...reminds me of a DD I was on. Guy convinces wife to return to their trailer to talk and patch things up. She goes and takes their infant. They talk for a couple hours. He finally understands she is gone. Poor lady was in shock but I never heard how she handled the mental stress afterwards. Infant obviously wouldn't know. I never asked for names of persons involved unless it was critically necessary for the Crime Lab to know that. Helps compartmentalize and keep emotions or personal feelings locked up.
We had 36 or 39 suicides that holiday season and I remember telling the CAP Lt. at the scene that I seeing him more off-duty than in the office. That was no exaggaration. I have no idea why there were so many self-inflicted deaths but I was getting tired from lack of sleep, getting called out so much. After 1st of Jan the suicides dropped back to normal. Weird.
