  • In this video i painted a youtubers C10 truck with rustoleum
    turbo spray paint. We ended up using 4.5 cans in total!!! The paint
    job didn't come out as good as it COULD have but it was mostly in the prep work and because the conditions we were given. He loved it so that is all that matters in the end.

    I know this paint job didn't turn out amazing and i am not claiming it did. He was happy with the results (I could have done better) Most of the issue was in the prep as im sure you could see it has some flaws but he just wanted it painted black so i helped assist in this process. I did not charge him for the paint job i just was helping him out! He loved it and that's ALL that matters!

    The only thing I would do different is soak the ground everywhere around. Dad taught me as a kid, get the hose and spray down the yard, drive, street, everything around. It helps keep dust and shit from blowing on your wet paint.

      @@parkeranderson5074 problem(s) with rattle can paint are these. Brittle, chips easy, fades easy, any and all solvents, gas, thinners, even bird poo will ruin it. Once you decide to buy an air gun and a gallon of auto paint and do a decent job, all and i mean ALL of what you rattled must come off because real auto paint and primer chemicals DO NOT bond. They will delaminate and bubble up after several months and start to chip away and auto paint isnt cheap. Ask me how I know. My prep work was decent, my knowlege how ever wasnt.

    My secret to prep work is using 3m adhesive to glue strips of 36,60,80,120,200 and 400 grit sandpaper onto paint stir sticks from home depot. Sand in multiple directions on the bondo and work up to 400. The stick will "bridge" over the dent and the multiple grits will save you time. I had poorly done a lot of bodywork on a 1967 442 and another car guy gifted me this info. I redid the whole car and it turned out lazer straight. Hope it works for you guys too

    I did this exact same paint job with the turbo cans on my 2000 f150. Turned out nice. Once it dries though, its more dull than gloss. Almost like a satin. Tried to wet sand and polish, but doesnt look so good. If you want that gloss look, I recommend that you put clear coat on so you can wet sand and polish.

You could’ve gotten a gallon of single stage acrylic enamel for $50 some cheap hardner and reducer whole thing $100 and just used a $10 hvlp gun would’ve had a reallly good shine with real auto paint and less orange peel extra $60 doesn’t seem bad and still on a budget

    That's the kind of stuff I did when I was driving $500 junkers in my 20's.
    I used Duplicolor brand metallic paint on a Cutlass....looked like shit. It did buff to shine, but I'd never do that again....you can't get the same coverage as a gun from a can. Real auto paint is not that expensive....you can even shoot it outdoors.
    Body prep is THE most important part of ANY paint work. Several coats of a high build primer sanded smooth with 400 to 600 grit for a perfect paintable surface. 👍

    First two coats was at night, came out nice and smooth, I did the 3rd coat in the Sun, 80 degrees in Florida, and this ruined my Whole paint job.
    So now I’m gonna have to sand blast it and redo it again, but now I’m thinking of doing it with the black.. You did a great Job, it looks Slick, and it’s a lot cheaper.. The 3Q3 red salsa is $150 a gallon, so it’s expensive

It looks 10x better in my opinion but it still has that cheap spray paint character. I love the reactions when you tell people it’s spray paint tho. Smoothing out the deep scratches is the key to this stuff. If you can see it in the base you will see it in the clear

    Sweet, I've been waiting for this video for a minute. Been really curious about this paint and how it would look on a car. Good job👌 I'll probably put like 6 cans on my hardbody and wet sand/cut n buff

      If you take your time in the prep it comes out really nice. This was his first time prepping for paint so it wasn't fully prepped properly but that's why we are all here is to learn from our mistakes. He is happy with it so i am happy with it. It could have been better but he just wanted the truck all the same color.

    This paint job is a heck of alot better from how the truck looked before paint. Why do people comment how it looks bad or there's orange peel. For 100 bucks that what it is. Good job on the paint job.

    I have been a painter for over 15 years. Orange peel is not from prep

    • @charlestannehill7537
      @charlestannehill7537 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. I noticed a lot more, but I didn't want to bring hate on the kid. People learn from experience. And he's new. Eventually he'll perfect his ways or learn the proper ways if he's serious. I did both because I'm hard headed. Perfected my way, but everybody instantly downgraded my work regardless of quality. So I was forced to learn the proper way. For other people I do it the "professional" way, just to put them at ease. But this is a bike I got for cheap, didn't want to invest too much into, so I decided to rattle can it (I used hardener along with wet-sanding). Total was about $200. I did do prep as well though too. photos.app.goo.gl/2ynHEdJnK1iQ7o4E8

    • @williamoliver7891
      @williamoliver7891 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really constructive criticism goes a long way. I believe every painter has own way. I have rattle canned vehicles too but I explain the truth, it may last two weeks it may last two months. But it won't look good and not a good fix, and to fix it afterwards going to cost more than the car or truck.

    • @charlestannehill7537
      @charlestannehill7537 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@williamoliver7891 yeah, but some people get all elitist of you don't use top end name brand paint, gun, compressor, lines, etc. I think rattle can lasts longer than people think if prep is done properly. To me, durability is based on how well you do each step. That whole bike is rattle can. But everyone swears it's hvlp in person. I love seeing something I painted get unmasked. It feels good knowing I put in the effort that everyone is going to be admiring.

    • @charlestannehill7537
      @charlestannehill7537 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @mister clean sorry, but I disagree with that. Once I had enough practice, no rattle can brand defined my finish. And of course I you have to use clear. I use 2k gloss. Blocks uv and has hardener. The main problem is that most rattle cans have low color depth and variance. Just because the cap looks good, doesn't mean it will applied to a vehicle. And when they are trying the single code colors, the paint jobs look very, "plain Jane" if there ever was a way to describe it. You usually need metallic or multi-tone spray paint.

    Some folks don't have any money,so what can you do? The owner got what he paid for. Myself,if I was going to have it painted,I would have pulled the dents out,a few skim coats of filler and blocked and primered the entire truck a few times. To sit back and put this guy down for doing a friend a favor is sad. Not many folks will pull friends together,put a small pile of cash together and do something really nice for a friends friend or anyone else and have some fun at the same time. Those stories are few and far between!
