Solo Overnight BackPack/ Kayak CAMPING the High Sierra | Cooking Potato Soup | Campfire Stories

  • Hi Campers,
    I go kayak/ backpacking up to the Gold Lakes Basin in the northern Sierra Nevada mountains wilderness of California. I take my Tamarack 100 Sit-On-Top Kayak into the beautiful alpine Goose Lake and set up an overnight camp on a long peninsula. I make homemade baked potato soup, have a campfire and do some landscape photography while enjoying the beautiful High Sierra mountains.

    I just love everything about your videos, you have a kind soul, I enjoy witnessing. Also, the magical moments & beauty of nature. Learning about camping & outdoor tips... It really gets me excited to go out and try it myself :) And not to mention you are quite creative and skilled with the camera!
    Last but def not least... the bigfoot stories. I am a believer in bigfoot, and absolutely love getting spooked by the fire, and letting my imagination run wild! Looking forward to many more videos, Thanks for being you! Keep Hiking!

    Great stuff, Chris! One thing I appreciate about your channel is that you focus on the important things: getting out in nature and having a good time. It’s easy to get discouraged watching other TH-camrs because they focus on having the best, most expensive, ultralight gear. Not you. You have nice gear, but you find what works for you, which is normally quality and budget-friendly. I look forward to each video. Keep up the good work, my friend.

      @@basecampchris I love how that little peninsula was such a perfect and magical spot .

      @@basecampchris the photographs are great but one of the things I hate about cell phone photographs is it just seems they flatten out whatever you're looking at and make it less dramatic unless dimensional ...
      Hard to explain other than to simply say that it will make some of the most dramatic landscapes seam less so .

    How you can sit there all alone in the dark creepy woods, by a fire casting frightening shadows all about, and tell of unearthly howls and weird footprints and unknown creatures huffing & stomping outside your tent, is beyond me! I'd scare myself to death! I'm sure I'd end up throwing my sleeping bag into the boat and paddling out to the middle of the lake to sleep, and just hope I could keep visions of underwater cryptids from tormenting me all night. Glad you're up to it though, because I enjoy these videos so much.

    What's up Chris, just a helpful hint , take your lint from your dryer, save in in a bag then take it with you, it's great for fire starter, burns very hot and fast, one more, a candle wick in a block of lard makes a great long lasting candle 👍 stay safe Chris....

    Chris, excellent video...just one suggestion from someone who kayak camps a lot, wrap your pack in a trash bag and tie it off before putting it on the back of your kayak. No matter how hard you try most times due to paddling just get water setting in the dished out area where your pack is sitting causing things to get wet. I use pack liners and waterproof stuff sacks so I'm not real concerned about stuff getting wet inside my pack, but have had super wet shoulder straps and hip belts that can be a bit uncomfortable when its cooler weather👍

    • @basecampchris
      @basecampchris  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes a good call...the water finds a way to get in ...as well as the pack falling off into the lake...Yikes! I had some tie off but I need something super secure. Thank you!

    The idahoan hashbrowns you couldn't find are great. I recommend you try them. Light weight and easy to fry on a pocket rocket.

    Awesome adventure! Loved your stories! I too have heard strange sounds by the campfire at Wrights Lake in the Eldorado national forest. Keep on hiking!
