Solo BACKPACKING the High Sierra Carson/ Iceberg Wilderness | Cooking Salmon | Campfire Stories!!

- Hi Campers,
I go up to 8,730 foot Ebbetts Pass and backpack into the Carson/ Iceberg Wilderness in the northern Sierra Nevada mountains wilderness of California. I backpack into the the beautiful Pacific Valley and make camp/ cook a delicious Salmon dinner with cooked vegetables. I build a campfire and recount stories about my adventures working in Yellowstone National Park of Wyoming. The next morning I take some landscape photos of the beautiful valley and make a delicious hot breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns and coffee....then it's off to attempt to climb a 9k plus mountain peak called Bullrun Mountain high in the vast Sierra Wilderness!!

Another great video Chris. I agree with some of the other folks. You can get the same pics of wilderness and camps all over TH-cam, but what makes yours different is you. You bring a great relatability of spirit. I feel like you are a guy that just gets it and realizes that this is about enjoying the journey. You Chris have an infectious love of life and obvious empathy and you're a highly experienced, expert hiker, but many of us who care about you, which is real, worry about your safety. I was SO happy to hear about the gun you pack. Whether it's bear spray or an appropriate gun to take down a grizzly, it pleases me to know you have those self-defense items, but they need to be at your disposal in less than a second. Because that's how fast things can go from honky-dorry to grave danger. Keep those items close and available. And we need to get you a locator beacon. It's the final piece of that ring of security you need. Breaking a leg can happen with ease in the wild. And you're not going anywhere, especially with a compound fracture. The PLB is the guarantee that SAR will be there in 6 hours or so.

A current wildland firefighter, next time you light a fire in the woods to keep warm, clear the bottom of your pit and the surrounding area down to mineral soil. That way you won’t start the duff layer and litter layer on fire causing it to creep. It’s incredible, even when the ground is wet, things can start up and ember and smolder without smoke, and then once things dry and the wind picks up it will light up! Then boom, wild fire!
Thanks yes, especially the Sierra there is a lot of organic matter in the soil...I'll clear it out deeper...I did soak it 3x with the bear canister - about 6 gallons.

I lived in Sierra City in my early 20's but my favorite job more recently was working in Crater Lake National forest. So beautiful...Happy belated Birthday Just had my 63rd...no more hiking for this old broad... grabben sun by a lake and sleepin my' own bed at night.

Hello Chris, we must be about the same age from your story telling, which I thoroughly enjoy. The scenery is something else here! Keep safe as I continue to watch yr videos. I like the try a new beer out when u do yr videos. Entertaining us and giving us the viewers a real appreciation for hiking. After experiencing a bigfoot in 2018 I prefer to not go out to the trails and mountains now, for safety sake. Be alert and carry a transponder with you . And a beer helps too.
