I have four friends in London Ontario. I pull their legs that it is the "Fake" London, says me, Vic the Cockney, from London England. I have stayed in London Ontario a few times visiting. The Park Hotel and the Toddle Inn (which has closed, sadly). Normally a group of us visit from Britain, and we have done every Canadian railway (except Churchill), but including Windsor, Sarnia, Sept Iles to Schefferville, Carcross in Yukon, Vancouver, Calgary, Prince Rupert, Quesnel, Whistler, Prince George, Kamloops, Banff, Jasper, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax, Senneterre, Jonquiere, Cochrane, Moosonee, Quebec and Niagara Falls. Plus St Jacobs to Waterloo, Orangeville to Brampton, La Malbaie, Wakefield, the South Simcoe etc. My wife flew in the co-pilot's seat of a DH3 Otter from Victoria to Vancouver, but being a railfan, I preferred my ride on the locomotives from Emeril Junction to Esker, Ottawa Science Museum, Whytes Park to Port Stanley, Vancouver, Edmonton and Winnipeg. Canada is a great country, and the Canadians are great people. We also had our honeymoon in Canada, on the Canadian, and fell in love with the place.

I’ve flown on one of these, but…it wasn’t in Canada. Several years ago, I was on holiday in Malta and HarbourAir were operating a plane from the Grand Harbour, flying over the island, across to Gozo and then back again. Having never been on a seaplane before, I couldn’t resist booking a flight. These are fantastic aircraft and it was an incredible experience taking off on water, especially somewhere like the Grand Harbour. Perfect visibility from the aircraft, which meant I was able to take plenty of pictures on the flight. Would thoroughly recommend it, but HarbourAir no longer do the flights from Malta, which is a shame, because it is an unforgettable experience.

This is the mode of transport that checks all of the boxes for me. The only time I flew in anything smaller than a commercial jet was a friend's Cessna 150 that he flew for sightseeing over the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I made sure to read up on the basics of flying and got to fly for about an hour but was scared of landing from the crosswind.

This takes me back to 2009, when I took an 11 day vacation trip to Seattle, including 4 days in Vancouver.
Flew Harbour Air on a one hour air tour of the Cypress Mountain 2010 Winter Olympics site, Horseshoe Bay, Bowen Island, Whistler, Mt. Garibaldi and Indian Arm Lake on the return; only other passengers were 2 older sisters from Sweden who could speak only a little English, but we all had an awesome aerial experience.
Same docks, probably the same turbo Otter (without the video safety message), same takeoff in the channel (and a little nerve-wracking clearing those cargo ships by less than 100 feet 😯), though that passenger terminal / waiting area is new (was only a small, cramped portable building back in 2009).
Glad you had a great experience, Noel! 👍

My wife could not believe her luck, when she was selected to sit in the co-pilot's seat for the entire trip. When we arrived in Vancouver, her wide grin, from ear to ear, said it all. Thanks to the crew. Amazing flight. Recommend Butchart Gardens when visiting Vancouver Island, at the rear of the gardens is an idyllic white sand beach. Truly stunning. . 1,000 feet. Nice and intimate with the earth.
. Then there's the evident charm of Nanaimo. I could have seen more of that.
. "Crunch!" Yes. I actually heard you bite into the batter on the fish and chips. You >know< our salivaries went into overdrive with all that. (Wagging my finger at you.) You did that deliberately!
. Yep. My first impression was right. I have enjoyed this one to the max.

If you like Canadian made float planes, you can go to the Maldives. They use deHavilland Twin Otter float planes to island hop there

My friend , take a flight to Victoria, or even better, thake the ferry and then go visit the Royal British Columbia museum. You will not regret it.

The safety video on the seaplane was amazing even in Maldives the seaplane service providers don’t follow that protocol or they don’t have such kind of arrangement on the seaplane’s safety features

Vancouver is one of the coolest places, I did the seaplane from there to Victoria (and back) in 2012.... amazing period personally, great to re-visit via your video.
    way more destinations now, wow.

Brilliant as usual. Aurigny used to run Twin Otters over to Alderney in the 1980s before returning to the tried and tested NB Islander and Trilander. Never been on a turbo otter though. Vroom vroom. 🦦

Great video! I'm originally from Campbell River, about an hour north of Nanaimo. Most beautiful scenery.

You didn't have a Nanaimo bar whilst in Nanaimo however. That's a shame.

For the true seaplane experience you should go to the Maldives and fly the barefoot airline out to the islands. Nothing like it, some of the approaches they use are near vertical.
