A plane ride that starts in the Canadian Province of Alberta and heads west over the Rockies to the province of British Colombia and vice versa will always be breathtaking with views out the window. Canada is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful countries on earth.

I think it's cool that you came to Canada and explore our amazing country. And your reports are great. But a small detail I like to mention. Canada has provinces not states. So it's the province of BC not the state of BC. Lol. Keep doing what you are doing. You are a great ambassador for Canada. Exploring the less known beauty of our nation.

The 1900D is a beast. When I was a Airline Operations Manager at a small regional port here in New Zealand, we received several 1900D turns a day. Beautiful aircraft, but certainly fiddly with loading, trim, ect. Lots of last minute shuffling about. All but two of the fleet were purchased brand new from the States and actually had a onboard lavatory. This took up considerable weight and also space in the Hold. This left Hold 2 with a horrid little angled type cupboard. Two of the fleet were purchased second hand and did not have on board lavatories. They were very much favoured among Grand Staff around the Country.
A very sad day when the Airline was wound down and the last 1900D flight landed. Very fond memories of the 1900D, Metroliners and Bandeirantes.

Just to correct you. The mountains you flew over from Vancouver to Cranbrook were the Coastal Mountains at Vancouver, the th Cascade Mountains, Monashee Mountains and Selkirk Mountains, which to me are the most impressive and the biggest barrier to land travel. The Rocky Mountains are west of Cranbrook and you would have seen them on arrival and departure.

My daughter's very first flight as an airline pilot was on a Beech 1900D into Cranbrook from Calgary with Air Canada Express. She always said planning for an engine failure on departure from Cranbrook was always 'a bit interesting' due to the narrow valley and high mountains. I'm not sure they even fly that route anymore, let alone on a B1900D. Good memories. Thanks!

That Saab is actually an oddball paintjob from it's previous operator Integra Air - hence the reg GOIA. They in turn operated it for Connectair. It has been with Pacific Coastal for many years, but never re-painted and pretty much exclusively used on the WestJet Link flights now (Link being the Pacific Coastal operated flights to differentiate them from Encore with the Q400's). The others being used for WestJet are all painted in their full livery.

I first flew from YVR to Kamloops in 1982 and the tents were there then! It seems that if these domestic flights are on propeller planes then this is the type of gate you will go through. Only the full blown air bridges are that much more enclosed.
I would recommend that you fly from Calgary to Kamloops ro Vancouver, (YYC to YKA to YVR) you will see very much more of the Rockies and more snow capped peaks.

Hi Noel. thank you for taking us along on this flight - the views over the Rockies are incredible. I once had a helicopter flight over the Rockies and it was a bit bumpy as it caught the up-draughts (thermals?) from the peaks. I notice that you often manage to get a seat near the wing and engines/jets - is there a reason for this, or do you just like engines!?

Ah, takes me back to the dim and distant past that was 2019 and a flight from Victoria to Calgary in an Air Canada Dash 8 Q400. Gin clear day, unlimited visibility and almost completely cloud free. The views were magnificent from the Gulf Islands to the endless Alberta Prairies via Point Roberts, the laser straight USA border, the Okanagan and of course the mighty Rocky Mountains, so close as we passed over at FL250 that you felt you could reach out of the window and feel the last of the winter snows that covered the peaks. My neck was stiff by the end of the flight with all the gazing out of the window I did.

Just some trivia about Cranbrook Airport. In the 1980s, passenger service to Cranbrook was mainly served by 737-200s operated by Pacific Western Airlines (later Canadian Airlines). There was a famous plane crash of a 737 there I believe sometime in the late 1970s.

Awesome looking views on these flights thank you for sharing them with us all! Would love to see you come to Eagle County Regional (KEGE) for some great mountain flying on the 757 before they are gone. I work ARFF/Ops there and would be happy to show you around the airfield.

AC Express used a lot of Beech 1900’s for thinner routes back in the late 90s and 00’s. Flew in those a number of times between YYZ and MHT. It was fun until you hit any weather systems. Remember one flight where I marveled at how the crew could keep the a/c under control enough (it was galloping in 3 dimensions) to land, but we did and nicely.

I enjoyed the video. The lady at 15:20 made me laugh the way she sipped on her drink then awkwardly stared into the camera.

Very beautiful indeed. Another beautiful flight is from NYC JFK airport to Toronto. I took it in December, and there was snow all over. When the plane is already descending to Toronto, it flies at a low altitude over Buffalo, Niagara river and Niagara Falls. I had a great view of the half frozen falls and took many photos. Then, the approach is over lake Ontario and we have a great view of Toronto. Different type of beautiful, but still quite nice.

Too bad you didn't have some golf clubs. The courses around Cranbrook and Kimberley BC are stunning. I don't really golf, but I do when I go there.

While Canbrook itself is rather unimpressive as a city beyond their wonderful history and railroad museum, the area surrounding Cranbrook is just incredible.

Yeah, well Cranbrook thinks you're unimpressive Mr. "Van Down By the River" motivational speaker.

Well yes, while I don't have a full-size van I do have a minivan, and I do live near a big river and I sometimes go down by the river and take pictures, I guess makes a little sense.

I love flying on Beech 1900Ds.. they’re little rockets on takeoff. Also, I went through a similar tent maze at JFK’s Delta regional gates a few years ago. As you said it served the purpose keeping us warm and dry. Lastly, I love BC too.. flying over the Rockies is one of my best flight memories as were the Alps. Both gorgeous in their own ways.

I had a similar beautiful flight that I'd like to share. It was also from Vancouver but to Portland, Oregon in an almost empty Dash-8 turboprop at a similarly low altitude. The Dash-8 has an overhead wing so the visibility below was unobstructed while the B-1900 and Saab 340 are low winged aircraft. Because the plane was almost empty, I was able to move about and see the view from both sides of the plane. We flew over the San Juan islands, saw the Pacific Northwest mountains (didn't fly directly above them), etc and it was a beautiful clear day. I really enjoy following your flight experiences; I used to fly a lot but not since retiring a few years ago.
