Been flying for more than 50 years, and, hands down, the most enchanting flight I've ever taken was Harbour Air from Vancouver to Victoria. I had undergone cataract surgery a week before, and the pilot allowed me to sit in the right front seat to celebrate. We went to Butchart Gardens, and then came my second most favorite flight - the return to Vancouver. Harbour Air, like Vancouver, is wonderful!

About 3 years ago I was living on Galiano Island and my daughter came from Calgary to visit. When we were taking the ferry to Galiano from Victoria, she asked if I had seen any Orcas in the few years that I had been living around the islands. I told her no, that they were pretty elusive to me.
A few days later when we were on the ferry heading back to Victoria, there was a pod with juveniles swimming close to the ferry. They slowed the ferry and we were able to see them and the juveniles were playing and jumping out of the water. They were putting on quite the show. My daughter who was 28 then, was squealing with delight! I was so emotional seeing them and seeing her reaction. Timing could not have been better! They are pretty magnificent!

Loved this video, you and your sister are awesome together!! I took a flight with Harbour air to Victoria with my partner for her birthday. We were in the first row, just behind the pilot, we could see into the cockpit. I knew I would get sick, I always do, so of course I did. After I finished using the barf bag, the pilot tapped my knee and handed me a rag to wipe my face. I thought that was hilarious, what other airline could that happen.

Well Mike, you've done it again with a great surprise for us viewers. Congratulations to Jess on her Masters Degree and it was really nice to see you enjoying a fun adventure together once more. This would have to be one of the best day trips Vancouver based that a wildlife lover could take; and it wasn't just Orcas! Those seals seem to not be too worried about being on the Orca menu and I had to really laugh out loud when I saw all those sea lions basking on the log float. Now it would be really interesting to see how the lumberjacks deal with these critters when it comes to harvesting the logs for processing at the sawmill. Oh, and I have a new title for this clip; "Free Willy 4". Now, I wait with baited breath to see what you come up with next weekend. Cheers from Melbourne.

Pretty nice gesture on your part to take Jess out for a trip like this. I'm sure she really appreciated the trip! Something you can do in the future is try Painters Lodge up in Campbell River. They have Whale Watching Trips like this & also Wildlife Viewing trips. I've done all of their tours & would do it all over again. Very scenic up especially going through Seymour Narrows & the history of Ripple Rock. Also you will see Fish Farms as well. Since this is more then a day trip you will need to book a overnight stay. Book a room at the Comfort Inn Hotel in Campbell River then it's a 10 minute Drive to Painters Lodge.

I’ve been on several whale watching tour in Victoria, BC where I live. There used to be two pods (J and K pods) that lived around Vancouver Island. There is only J pod here now. The marine biologist said that the other is no longer here. However, the transient pod do come to visit from California. It’s pretty great living on the West Coast of B.C.

At one point the K pod came right underneath our zodiac, it was exhilarating and scary at the same time. We even saw a baby orca about one meter long swimming 200 meters from our zodiac.
