Amazing makeup affects for the time- especially the fish like gulping of air. This went FAR beyond the usual B movie trope of the time.

Thank you for your comment. I totally agree that this film was in a way pionier, I have to admit I didn't see the other creature versions, just this one and was astonished how good it was for B rated movie. Love Julie Adams in it thought she was marvelous. I'm only sad a little that I and other enthusiasts didn't get the chance to see it in 3D would be great I think.

I've always liked how; when the Creature was out of the water; its gills moved in and out, like that of a fish. Once, Julie Adams sent me an email to say "Hi" and to tell me that she was Julie Adams and NOT Julie London (a famous singer/actress) and a friend of Julie Adams. Julie also went on to tell me that working with actors Richard Carlson and Richard Denning and director Jack Arnold was wonderful and memorable. The aforementioned were very concerned when she (Julie) received a good-sized bruise on her forehead. That happened as a result of suit actor (Ben Chapman) carrying her and accidentally bumping Julie's noggin into a portion of the cave set (phony but hard "rock'). Ben's vision was very limited due to the Creature headpiece he wore. There's a still photo with Ben still in his Creature suit kneeling down on one knee beside Richard Arlen, Richard Denning, director Jack Arnold, and a Universal studios nurse as Julie's bruise was tended to. Julie told me that all of those folks were amazing. "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" was also a favorite of Mr. Vincent Price, whom I met back in the early 1970s. Many thanks for this overview of one of my favorite monsters from Universal studios!

Thank you very much for your comment: It is really an interesting insight that you put in your comment and what a thrill, that you have the opportunity to write with Julie Adams. She seemed a very nice lady and talented of course. I really appreciate your comment and am glad that you liked the video. Thank you.

@@mariariecka Yes, Julie Adams was (and remains) a gracious and sweet gal. She was very good in all of her performances -- especially in "westerns." Regarding my comments, you are most welcome. I felt so sorry for the Gillman. He was an anachronism. That's something that I can relate to. In the film, "The Seven Year Itch, Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell walked outside a movie theater which screened, "The Creature from the Black Lagoon," they discussed the Gillman -- what a tragic figure he (it) was. Truly, Creech is a film icon! Take care. -- W

Oh and Clint Eastwood had two small parts in the remake. UA wanted to see how her looked on screen. SO he had a scene in the lab with a few sentences and another uncredited appearance as one of the policemen in the back after they finally kill the creature.
I don't envy the guy in the fish suit- yipes what a job. "Lets combine the fear of drowning with a restricting suit of latex rubber- YEAH, that will be awesome!"
