Magnificent!! The lake is much smaller than it was in 1953 so finding exact spots would be very difficult. BTW, this is the same lake that was used in the opening scene and several episodes of The Andy Griffith Show. The ranger hut was used in the episode when Andy got arrested for fishing without a license.
One thing I absolutely love about your channel is you open up a new generation to want to see classic movies like creature. I’ve bonded more with my kid teaching him about the classics, and it started with your videos, so thank you and Jessica for bringing my bond with my son closer together
Ricou Browning (the stuntman who played the creature) went on to be part of the production crew of Lloyd Bridges "Sea Hunt" series as the underwater filming supervisor. He also wrote and directed episodes of "Flipper" and "Primus."
So cool. My mother was Betty (Julie) Adams' locker mate through high school at Little Rock High School, graduating class of 1944. ( It's now called Central Highschool). Betty's mother was a hair dresser and Betty was very sweet and reserved, Mom always recalled. They remained pen pals throughout the 1950s, and then lost touch with each other. What I would give if Mom had saved those letters. As always, awesome vlog ☮️
It’s really amazing that you’re putting in the effort to re-create movie locations from people’s childhood! Since a lot of us that will never have the opportunity to travel. Thank you for your time and effort. 😇
Getting to walk with you and Jessica through history - film history, true crime history - is such a joy! We covet the little nuggets you leave from your tireless, endless super sleuthing skills, like breadcrumbs on a trail. I'm an info junkie - I can't get enough on certain topics, and I'm beyond relieved there are at least 2 more people out there just as passionate (cough-OCD?-cough) as I am!
I remember my mother buying my sister and I 3-D eyeglasses and we watched the Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3-d on a Boston channel. Must have been the early 1980s. Good memories.
I saw this movie when it came to the theater in Tarentum, PA. 22 miles north of the burgh. It was either 54 or 55. I was 8 or 9. Probably at the Manos or Harris theater. I remember sitting thru it 3 times till mom came in looking for me. I fell in love with Julie Adams. The musical score was haunting when the creature appeared. One of my all time favorite movies!!!! Thanks for the visit to the actual location, younze did good!
I find this movie was ahead of its time.....to create a creature that breathes under water like it did, the underwater gear that must have been needed to be a part of the creature outfit without the audience noticing it....WELL DONE! Your detective work to support and to back up your locations and stories is always impressive....it shows your passion and dedication to the work you do, and for fans such as myself, this is why we so enjoy your videos/stories so much. You help bring history back alive
@@KiltedCreatureWNC Very cool, I didn't know that. Still, to be swimming in that amazing creature costume must have taken some getting use to,lol Cool info...thank you sir/madam

Great video. You should look for the spot where they filmed the opening scenes for The Andy Griffith Show, plus other locations they filmed. That area was heavily used by the show. Also, if you want a tip, go to Yuma, Arizona to where they filmed Jabba's Sail Barge scene and take a metal detector and a shovel because people are still finding parts of the set.
We were there in 2012 for Andy Griffith spots and the water levels are much lower than the 50's and 60's during Andy. That path and picnic table are the path if you came from the parking area. This is wonderful! Love the color creature promo pics, too!
Fun Fact... Ginger Stanley who is 91yrs old this year was the underwater stunt double for both lead actresses in the film and the first of its two sequels that followed. Well known for her aquatic work in photos-film etc. she often worked at water attractions and was as runway model as well when not splashing around. She even doubled for Esther Williams once because she had an ear drum problem and was inducted into the Mermaid Hall of Fame that remembers many who once made a living that way. Her underwater modeling work is quite etheral and skilled since letting the water clear while posing especially from bubbles meant minutes not seconds holding her breath. Indeed the actor who played the underwater creature in the first films recounted he could easily hold his for 4 or more as long as not needing to move much but only for 2min if a fight scene was on before needing air.

Micheal amazing video!! Maybe it’s just me, but when Im looking at the water and trees, it looks otherworldly, like time has stood still from the 40s, 50’s, enchanted almost! ❤🙏🏽🎃👍
I almost freaked out I thought you guys were at silver springs in Ocala Florida where a lot of the movie was shot! I grew up and lived in Ocala. also, fun fact one of the wetsuit creature costumes is at the park and they have it on display!
One of the best people I’ve ever met was Julia Adams years ago and had this movie poster signed .Great movies and another great job searching for locations for this.
This has me thinking of scenes from John Carpenter's/Stephen King's Christine, like if the junk yard where Christine is "left to rest" can be found? And the house that Arnie lived at? Very nice work lining up the mountain.
So awesome what you do Mike!! My parents took me traveling all over to see all kinds of historic locations, so watching what you do brings me back to those times. I'm retiring in less than 10 years, I'm taking my kids to the places I've seen as well as alot of new ones. KEEP UP THE AWESOME JOB!!
the Andy Griffith show also used that area for the famous whistling opening credits scene, and you really don't have to take us exactly to the spots, just being in that area is good enough, a lot of shows were filmed in that area.
