Fantastic video! We are going to be using DJI drones to survey an archeology site. I’ve been looking at the Phantom RTK and I had no idea it was even possible to get this level of data on a Mini! Well done.
Thanks a lot, Emily. Yes, the equipment is very important, but the method of capture and user ability/experience will likely be the difference at the end of the day. All the best with your survey!
It's really cool to know about that software.... I but I got two questions - 1. What exact software used to make 3d model from pictures? 2. Have you used filter on drone camera and which one?
Hi Alexander. 1. In this video, the model was created using Bentley Context Capture, a trial version I was sampling. I think it was Update 16. 2. No filters used at all. This little drone is stock standard. No filters applied in post-processing either.
I love you put that about the DATA that's the most efficient thought how do you get through the either fkn drones all fly themselves mostly with a quality drone
@@geospatialtipsDid you finished with that video? Is it on youtube? I am so interrested about this! I just saw your video and i would also give it a try. Please share with me your process video. I am interrested about the program you use for the flying layout and how you put it on your drone to fly over that area in a pattern you selected earlyer. And how you use the recorded video to create 3d models. Its looks amazing! Thanks for your work!
Hi - I used Agisoft Metashape and played with Context Capture for the house modelling too. If you are going to use a similar technique, Agisoft might be best because it allows and caters for the inconsistencies of manual flight.
I have found, with LOTS of photos, WebODM is very forgiving, usually. I think, under 50 photos total, Zephre is also very nice, but very hard to get any data, excepting manually. My methodology is almost the same as yours, and I think that any way I can preplan or "finger", touch a pattern, would be better. In these past 2+, years, have you found a way to do mission planning?
Hi - thanks for the comments. Yes, I have found 2 tools for mission planning with the original Mini. Firstly, Copterus (only for Apple) I did a video on it here: th-cam.com/video/Kwr4hzrdT0U/w-d-xo.html Another is Litchi: flylitchi.com/ I don't mind WebODM, although I find it to be limited in some ways. As a free option for small projects, I have started using Maps Made Easy, which has a good built-in DJI process flow, but is great for other drones too: th-cam.com/video/kZRXH9uNhoA/w-d-xo.html
Nice initiative. Well done. Thank you for the information. Please clarify, Dronelink has overlap option? Why flight plan path is not as planned, it has some deviation, whether it is due to lower accuracy of the GPS? What are the other software you have used? Thank you once again
Hi, This was a manual flight and no pre-planning was done and there was no flight plan. That is why it was not as precise as it should have been if doing this for a client perhaps. I just mentioned Dronelink because I know it has the ability to upload and fly according to a flight plan (for the Mavic Mini); I was just testing the drone's photogrammetric abilities in this video. I processed the data using Agisoft Metashape for the ortho-image and I used Context Capture for the 3D model. Thanks for watching!
Hello and greetings from Cyprus. So can i take georeferenced images from Mavic Mini? What softwares you use for flight planning and what for the 3D modelling?
Hi! Yes you can take georeferenced images with the Mavic Mini. For flight planning I would recommend the Copterus app. However, I think it's only for Apple products. So if you can't use that, you can fly manually as well and set the camera to auto-capture every 2 seconds, as an example. For processing and modelling, I would recommend Agisoft Metashape, but there are many options these days.
Absolutely. You could export a whole host of formats that would be compatible with various CAD packages. Meshes, Images, DTMs, vector drawings, numerous dwg files and so on.
I have the mini 3, if i fly manually to take the photos, is there any way to upload them to dronelink/pi4d or similar programs? Or to calculate the volume in metashape just by creating a orthomosaic + 3d scan? I'm looking for a way to calculate volumes withous gcp's
Hi Spikey Slayer - yes, volume calculations as you would do them with Metashape, Pix4D etc. are relative to the data (ground surface) and not usually absolute. What I mean is that you want to find the amount of material above the ground. Thus, if the ground is high above, or far below, the real-world position, it does not matter because your material (volume) would shift accordingly. This is of course reliant on you processing the data carefully, like I show in my videos. When it would matter is if you are using known bases, or base layers beneath your volume. In that case you would need to ensure that the two surfaces (base and ground level you processed) match well. If you need more help, feel free to mail me at geospatialtips@gmail.com and I'll try explain in more depth - but I'm sure you get it.
I have no idea to be honest. I must admit I have not used it much at all. Hopefully soon though! If you follow this thread, you should get the updates as they happen: support.dronelink.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360052374933-Mavic-mini-2
Hi, Yes certainly. having ground control points would be preferable, but so long as the person who does the data processing knows what they are doing, you should be able to generate a decent result.
Hi - For model building, I use Agisoft Metashape and ContextCapture most of the time. If you're talking about actual 3D Mapping though, Bentley Microstation and also Global Mapper for many tasks. You'll see a mix of all of these in my videos. Hope that helps!
Nope, i don't believe you can. I have just tested an app called Copterus (th-cam.com/video/Kwr4hzrdT0U/w-d-xo.html) that allows for waypoints on DJI drones that traditionally don't allow it, the Mini 2 isn't on their list yet, but hopefully soon!
I find it so dubious that you really have only flown twice. I just, simply, cannot believe you. But I’m interested in what you have to say. So I’ll let it slide …
Hi - I used a mix for this project. The house model was processed with Context Capture whereas the overall image mosaic was completed with Agisoft Metashape.
