The tech available these days is amazing compared to when I graduated with my degree in 1983 from PSU. I'm going to use this with generating interest in the field of surveying among high school kids. We are a dying profession-the average age of the professional surveyor in US is somewhere in the upper 50's which says we are aging out.

    One topic I'd actually be quite interested in - though it may be too personal - is how you got into it all.
    What formal qualifications did you need?
    Did you start out with all that expensive equipment, including the LiDAR, or with a simpler drone and then gradually worked your way up as you started making money?
    Would be interesting to hear what you consider the "minimum starting position", both in terms of equipment and qualifications. Thanks!

    • @IndianaDrones
      @IndianaDrones  4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Not too personal at all. I think that will go into the list of videos to make! One thing that I believe in whole heartedly, is persistence. Just stick with it and keep on moving forward day by day. Even on these videos, I am making mistakes and people will call me out. Its important to take everything in and improve. • @preritkaji6038
    @preritkaji6038 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Vey well explained video.
    We work on Government projects in India related to urban planning and topographical survey is usually a start point at it. I was always skeptical about drone survey as they may not be cover the physical attributes like ravines, temples, temporary shed, etc below the tree canopies. Hence we are used to combining the Drone survey with Total station survey. But as you said LIDAR is able to offset the problem of tree canopy by mapping the physical attributes below it, makes it really interesting.
    Can you mention what would be the comparative cost of performing a Total Station vs. LIDAR vs. Aerial +Total station, some hint like is it three time or fours times of Total station ?

    Great video -Do you manually fly the drone or is it programmed in a set pattern?

      A little bit of both! Depends on circumstance.

    On your software are you able to pick the values for the contours? We have a customer looking for 10' contours. Are you able to do that with the software or are you always using the same 1', 5', and 25' coutours?

      10' is no problem! Just reach out to sales@rockrobotic.com and we will get you sorted out.

    did you process GNSS data? I understand the rover talks to the base station providing corrections for your collected GCP's.. im wondering if you process baselines with the gps data collected by the drone with the base? thanks!

    It is the great sharing of Lidar technology. How far the operation range from the base to drone? Do you use RKT mode or PPK?

      You should always use at least a handful!
